Paired with the dirty rice side and a corn bread muffin, this was a meal I haven't had since I left Arkansa over 20 years ago. The catfish was great! The rest of our party was generally pleased. The fried potato wedges were really done nicely, and cold mashed potatoes were excellent. Oddly, must have been an off night, the brisket was chewy than gas station jerky. That's anomalous for this restaurant though, this was the second time I've been here, and it wasn't like that last time. I like the simple clean decor. Not gaudy, not overly done, clean and neat. I'm sorry to say this is not my favorite BBQ spot in town. My husband and I came in for lunch, and, like most Famous Dave's locations, it has a cute Western feel. We sat in a booth in the bar area. Our first mistake may have been skipping the $35 Feast for 2-sday special and ordering from the lunch menu instead. My husband chose the Texas beef brisket sandwich with BBQ chips, and I ordered the two meat combo with pulled pork, burnt ends, and coleslaw. There was only one server in the bar area, so it took a while for our food to arrive, but it did come out hot. As for the food, the pulled pork was tasty but didn't really have that smoked flavor. It reminded me more of something I could make in a slow cooker. The burnt ends were disappointing. I'm used to them being caramelized with a bit of a crust, but these were soft and even a little mushy. The coleslaw was good. My husband felt the same about his brisket. It lacked smokiness and was a bit too soft. The chips were tasty, but didn't have much BBQ seasoning. I ordered the happy hour burger, medium rare and the brisket with dirty and chili for the sides. When I looked at the "medium rare" burger, my first words were, what the hell, my friend also said the same. It was a smash burger, by experience any hamburger patty utilizing less than a minimum of eight ounces or less can only produce a burger that's overcooked. it has been a few years since we have been here, life gets busy! I'll be had a doctors appointment in town, so we brought our little camper van to stay in the parking lot because it was a super early appointment. I haven't been to Reno in years. I felt like some BBQ so this is the place. I have been to a location back East and it was good. This place didn't disappoint. It was lunch time. I waited up front and no one came to greet me. I walked into the dinning room and a server saw me and helped me out. I was seated right then. It's a pretty big dinning area. There were a few tables of customers. My waitress was really bubbly and nice. I asked what meats were the best and she said the burnt ends was her favorite, I got that and the pork for my lunch combo meal. I saw that when I checked in you got a free iced tea or soda. I showed it to her but she had to take a picture and show it to her manager. She came back with a receipt that showed the tea taken off. She could of just told me hahah. The burnt ends were great. Another delicious meal. We only come on the weekends into Reno. So this is a regular stop for us. Wait staff are always really nice and on top of recommendations.
