M&M's Southern Café continues to be a relaxed, family-run restaurant in Sparks. They offer excellent homestyle Southern dishes. The menu includes chicken and waffles, seafood gumbo, biscuits and gravy, as well as rib and fried chicken dinners. The facility has a wonderful atmosphere and the aroma of Southern food upon entering. Popular dishes include oxtails, liver and onions, gumbo, catfish, and even alligator on a stick. The staff provides great service with a smile and is over the top friendly. This is a busy restaurant & worth the wait !!

Ordered a pickup order through DoorDash, and arrived at the time it was estimated it would be ready. The food was ready around 25 minutes late. We incorrectly assumed the drink we ordered was in the bag and that there would be condiments, but they missed the drink and the chicken tenders came with no sauce, and there was no ketchup for the fries. The meals were supposed to come with cornbread but we received what seemed to be lemon cake. The hush puppies were the best food item, greens second- the chicken was good but not great, fries were soggy, mac n cheese was good, and beans were too sweet and watery. Overall OK but wouldn't order takeout again without an accurate pickup time and checking the bag for items.

I waited for the large table in front of me to clear out before taking this picture. A family of six happy folks just left full.

This homey place is just perfect to scratch that itch for some good Southern Cooking. It's tucked in a corner of a strip center on Holman just off Pyramid Way. I was seated by the front door so I got like a front row seat for the activities. There are two small dining rooms and an order counter with a large screen TV so you can monitor the news of the day. There are lots of options on the menu. I settled for the bbq pork ribs accompanied by collard greens, Mac n Cheese and cornbread. I just had to try the fried catfish so I added a side of one piece. That catfish was so good just like being in Louisiana where it is hard fried crust with flaky white catfish inside...let's just say the cook "Nailed It!" It was perfection. Such a good meal. The only comment I have is the cheese sauce on the Mac was a bit "grainy" in texture but it was vey tasty. Definitely will go back when at get the longing for good down south cookin!

Fabulous Chicken Fried Steak and fabulous potatoes, gravy & slaw! Spectacular!

Goodness Gracious MeOhMy! I came here without reading reviews just based on HOW MANY...over 550...had managed to give an average of 4.3 stars. It came up in a search yesterday while I was searching for a VEGAN restaurant. I didn't see any vegan anything pop out to me on the menu, but it sounded delicious so I popped it in favorites to remind myself to try it. So I came with my neighbor friend today. It is .4 mile from my house and I never knew about it. (:-0 It's located near the old Scolari's Food & Drug (which closed recently) and is tucked in the corner closest to Pyramid. I can WALK there, and when I'm hankering for mashed potatoes and country gravy that's what I'm going to do... to work off the calories which are WORTH IT! I was going to order mashed potatoes and gravy and coleslaw but my neighbor ordered chicken fried steak and a lightbulb went off in my head. That used to be a grand favorite of mine but I realized about 35 years ago that what I loved most was the potatoes and gravy so I stopped getting the whole meal. I haven't ordered it since. Until today. I'm not much of a meat person anyway and haven't missed it...but now that I'm home I realize that THIS CHICKEN FRIED STEAK is going to be missed! I literally kept eating my fabulous steak and not the potatoes...that is unheard of for me. The country gravy has large chunks of sausage, and is the most perfect gravy I can ever remember. I'm a bit of a GOOD COLESLAW addict. THIS COLESLAW IS MY PERFECT VERSION...light mayo based with the perfect hint of sweet but mostly tasting VERY FRESH as if they just whipped it up for me personally. The mashed potatoes are WAY better than I could make. REAL potatoes MASHED just enough to be mashed but letting me know they are REAL with a perfect amount of unmashed bits too. Thick and sturdy! The cornbread muffin topped with some honey made this a very comforting meal! The only problem I might have is ordering anything else...although I tasted one bite of my neighbors fried okra and WoW it was delicious. Before writing this review I read several other reviews. It sounds like I NEED to come back several times WITH FRIENDS and sample things they order (:-) because it sounds like everything here is delicious. I also just searched "what is a hush puppy" and DUH...basically a little fried ball of cornbread batter? If that's right I'm trying that next time. I may dream about them. (:-) I DID check out the sweet potato pie sitting in the case. They are home made good sized individual pies. I can visualize myself hoofing the .4 mile just for THAT and hoofing back the .4 mile VERY SATISFIED. I did speak with the owner. Apparently he and his wife and family have been satisfying hungry people for over 20 years...and 8 years in this location. I hope they never move! The owners granddaughter was our server. Her service was as sweet and helpful as she is beautiful. Which means VERY sweet and helpful. I know a lot of small restaurants are family owned and run but this place has an extra homey feel that makes me want to return SOONER...not just eventually. If you find this review helpful please VOTE!

First time at M&Ms! Servers were friendly and attentive. Was going to be adventurous and try their chitlins, but figured start off with something simple first. We got the pulled pork sandwich, side of collards, fried chicken dinner, and hushpuppies. 20 min wait for the fried chicken dinner, but worth it! Pulled pork was saucy and tender. I LOVE the collard greens! Hushpuppies were crispy but not greasy and just the right amount. Place is on the smaller side because they blocked off the extra seating area so definitely come here early because this place stays busy pretty consistently. We had people coming in for pickups and LARGE catering orders. So if that doesn't tell you how authentic and delicious their food is, then I don't know what can. Definitely coming back and if chitlins are still on the specials board, I'd give it a try!

I decided I wanted to try someplace new, and my friend suggested we came check this place out. Walking in, I fell like I was walking into a true southern place. Very comfortable and homey feeling. We were greeted with a very friendly staff and service was as good as it should be. Food was....alright. it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't anything amazing. I was excited to try the alligator for the first time, but I couldn't really taste what I was eating because it was way too salty. Their ribs were really good though! As far as sides go, collard greens and fried okra were the way to go. Cornbread muffin seemed a bit too dry and Mac and cheese was....okay. For what it was worth, I had fun and it was a great experience. I may return for more of those ribs though!

Popular place to eat. Limited sitting so be prepared to wait or do take out. Smelling the smoker BBQ makes your moth water. Staff is friendly and courteous. Portions are generous. The drink glasses are very large so I had to take a photo :) Food is cooked to order so there may be a wait Chicken strips are delicious !!

We wanted soul food and to support a black owned business. We were glad we went and tried M&Ms. The fish and chicken were really good. The sides were decent. We weren't a fan of the cornbread but it just needed some butter or something. Fried okra was really good especially with hot sauce. Service was busy but hospitable. I would return if I was in Reno!

Looking for authentic Southern style cooking? Collard greens, ribs, brisket, fried okra, etc. look no further than this family restaurant. Fabulous food, so tasty and delicious. Service was friendly and fast and they cater and deliver to groups even down to Carson City. Always a pleasure working with these folks for our events. Wow the food is fantastic too!

Came for the gator meat, was not disappointed. Fantastic chicken fried steak, better than what was served at Two Chicks. The cbicken tenders were good but was the least remarkable part of the meal. Solid sides with Mac & Cheese being a stand out. Does have that intimate feeling of a family restaurant. Good service. Recommended if you want to try out the flavors of South.

If you want Fried Chicken this place is it. The sevice was friendly as could be. Ok that Chicken was off the charts. The Yams were perfection. The Mac N Cheese will not be forgotten. We will be back.

Just this past weekend I had a chance to visit Los Altos and it did not disappoint. The ambiance felt vaguely familiar, similar to another breakfast spot closer in town, but regardless I was hungry. The wait was about 15 minutes for a party of two. We waited inside what appeared to be a busy Saturday morning with families coming in to get their fix. I'm feeling sweet and savory today. A Tres Leches French toast combo with bacon, scrambled eggs and country style potatoes. Fritzie W. loves her eggs benedict. Almost any flavor, any style, covered in a salsa de verde for her Los Altos bene. Man, the flavors. The French toast was delicious, the tres leches sauce, wasn't too sweet, but just enough to let you know it means business. So good. You can't go wrong with eggs, bacon and potatoes. Fritzie's let me try her Benedict it was really good, prepared right--flavorful, savory. Nothing prepared was overdone, the servings were satisfying and our waitress was kind and accommodating along with the manager that shift having visited our table briefly to see how we were enjoying our meal. Well, they won't be pulling this review, unless they want to break federal law as my disclaimer at the end will explain. I love the decorations, and all of the different alien stuff, and just random decorum that actually works for this place. People can also sign their name and put stickers on the wall! Anyhow, I've been coming to these for years. The one in Carson City also. I've actually been interested in buying into one of these franchises, because everyone that I've been to have been super successful, but its a cool $¼M just to get started. They have a good diverse menu, and they have mimosas by the pitcher. Of all the times I've been to these, I've only had a subpar meal one time, and that was a few times ago when I ordered the chorizo Benedict. I think they were training a new cook, but the eggs were way overcooked, but they were happy to bring me better eggs. This particular visit, Tony was my server. He is excellent! I'm pretty sure that he's waited on us somewhere down the line, but super on top of things, super happy, just a really good dude, so ask to sit with him if you want top notch service! This visit, I ordered the traditional Benedict. I'm an eggs Benedict FIEND, and every time I come here I always say I'm going to order something different, but I generally don't. I do on occasion, but this bene I ordered yesterday was ON POINT! Large eggs, poached perfectly, perfect hash browns, creamy rich hollandaise sauce, and I even ordered a side of biscuits and gravy, which were perfect. Haley brought our food to us out of the kitchen, she was super nice and told us we could rely on her if we needed anything special! Squeeze in is always pretty much a guaranteed home run. Sometimes the wait times are crazy, which is a good thing, but you can always check in online. I checked in online before I left the house yesterday, had about an 8 minute drive, and was seated within 3 minutes of getting there. But other times, I've checked in 20 minutes before arrival, and still had to wait 10 or 20 minutes. Regardless, to me it's worth the wait. Thanks squeeze in, thanks Tony, thanks Haley, we'll be seeing you again soon! To Yelp: I don't work here. I don't own this place. I'm not a shareholder. I'm not affiliated with this business other than being a faithful paying customer. They gave me scrambled eggs instead of over medium eggs, and the server was quick to get the kitchen to make the correct eggs. I would love to try other items on the menu because it all looks really good. The atmosphere was decorated for Christmas, and there was a mural on the wall. I first heard about it when Esquire magazine proclaimed it to be the best breakfast in America. To quote the writer: "served in a skillet the diameter of a small umbrella". Obviously, there is a soft spot in my heart and nostalgia about that location, but due to it's smaller size and popularity, we decided to drive over to Sparks and check out this other Peg's (they have 5 locations now in total in the Reno metro area). Placed in the strip mall with ample parking, Sparks location is much bigger than the OG Sierra St., but not less busy. We probably got lucky , since they had two open tables, and were seated right away. A minute later, there was already a wait list. When it comes to Peg's I always order the same thing-Huevos Rancheros skillet with the side of bacon. If I was not super-hungry, this meal might have been enough for 2 and comes with all the fixings: hash browns, coleslaw, beans, pico, and a slice of fruit. Esquire article still holds true after all these years: Peg's might still be the best breakfast in the country. Add that coffee is always piping hot and refilled quickly, service quick and efficient, and it's hard to chose another place for breakfast in Northern Nevada. The only thing that could make it better is is to have a bloody mart to pair with the skillet, but there are plenty places nearby for that. Needles to say...until next time.

I apologize for comparing the two, but I think it has to be said because I am blown away by how well I was taken care of here at Jacks, after an hour and a half, well... almost 2 hours after waiting at the other place! Jacks was s a Great place for Family and friends, and they made me feel welcomed unlike the other place I already mentioned! Please try Jacks for friendly service, attentive staff and a great place for great food and hospitality!! Has been 46 minutes, my food has been delivered. I have been offered dessert and containers to take my leftovers home, it's great to feel like a customer who is appreciated, valued, and cared for! To squeeze in, I won't be going back to your location, but the other three here in Reno area are amazing and really disappointing me but Jack's made it all better for me today as I made it through over 2 hours of needing something to eat, they took care of me here at Jack's and now my blood sugar levels are where whether they're supposed to be! Go dine out, where someone cares ! thank you so much Jacks!!

I had the Denver omelet and was unfortunately disappointed. The bell pepper (which included green…read moreonly) was raw-- like not just underdone, raw, raw. The cheese wasn't fully melted (and there was a ton of it in addition to the generous amount on top). The omelet was very oily inside, and quality control wasn't there as I found 1.) a random cilantro leaf inside and 2.) a spot of some brown goop that I'm hoping was just pan fond from possibly using a pan that was previously used to cook something else (like fajitas possibly?).... My toast was also not up to par. The wheat bread was dry and a bit brittle and the toast wasn't warm. The butter (or butter substitute?) had not melted in and was just sitting on top like a paste. Our food came out at different times too so I'd recommend if you are there with a group not doing the typical wait-for-everyone's-food-to-arrive-before-eating type of thing. The service felt mixed. Several different people came by often enough (to check for coffee refills, etc.) but some were not warm and did not greet us with a smile. That didn't feel very welcoming. The ambiance isn't impressive. The outside signage doesn't look very good just thrown on top of some older beat up golden arches, but at least the inside looked like it was flipped. I did like that the tables felt spaced out enough that I didn't feel like a server could risk bumping into me with a tray like I have felt at some busier restaurants where the tables are more tight. And random, but I did notice some Hawaiian music was playing as we entered through the set of double doors (perhaps a nod to the previous restaurant?). Overall I might give Jacks a chance again as it seemed to be a standard breakfast place (and I liked that there was no wait for our party of 6 on a Friday morning during spring break) but I will not be ordering a omelet again.
