Wow what a cool old bar! We got the yummy shrimp scampi on a Friday and had drinks and smokes with the locals. The owner and bar tender were wonderful people with great service. We love this old bar that hasn't changed in what seems like 70+ years when it first opened. Can't wait to go back.

Best bar/museum I've been to in Reno/Sparks. So much history oozing from the walls. The place is owned by Cub but originally owned by Bear.

From the parking lot, it has the look and feel of a small seafood shack you'd expect to find along the Oregon coast. Step inside, though, and you're greeted by a bright, sparkling-clean dining room that's welcoming, comfortable, and thoughtfully laid out with plenty of seating. This is a true family-run business. Jon, the owner, served my meal while his daughter handled the front counter. Jon shared stories about the family's continued involvement in their fishing operation, where each fish is still individually caught by hand rather than with large commercial nets. Whether you're interested in that or not, you can tell he brings a captain's mindset to the restaurant--everything is shipshape, spotless, and exactly where it should be. I was initially on the fence about trying Smee's for fish and chips. Then I discovered their main competitor was only about a dollar less per plate. At that point, it became an easy decision. Why settle for a cook-alike when you can get fresh-caught cod from a place that specializes in seafood? I ordered the #2 fish and chips. It came with two generous pieces of cod coated in a light, crispy batter with the perfect crunch. The fries were hot and delicious, and the coleslaw was exactly how I like it--not swimming in dressing, just fresh, crisp, and well balanced. The homemade tartar sauce was the perfect finishing touch and complemented the fish beautifully. For my money, Smee's is an easy choice. I'll definitely be back. There's no reason to gamble on a chain or imitation seafood restaurant when, for about the same price, you can enjoy fresh fish, great service, and a family-owned business that clearly takes pride in what they do. Smee's has earned a permanent spot as my go-to place for fish and chips.

Absolutely captivating cocktails & a nice menu of pasta dishes, standard fare like burgers/sandwiches/salads, pizzas etc but also truly elevated dishes like premium steaks & seafood. Great selection of apps too! We loved the calamari (some of the best I've had outside of wharfside Monterey!) juicy sliders, a lovely little bread basket, and their beet salad & sausage stuffed mushrooms are perfection. Every cockatkl weve tried was delsih, and they just added some new ones to keep us on our toes. Stop the press! I just learned they have breakfast too! Just looking at the ginger and wasabi tray, I could predict that it would be delicious and fresh. We couldn't believe that we ate everything including an extra bowl of clam chowder and a few scoops of Greenpeace ice cream. Hotel food is usually boring, but not at the Peppermill. Great job!

This was my first time to Legends Bay Oyster & Sushi bar. We had some guests from the Bay Area and…read morethey wanted sushi. Since Legends was offering an all you can eat option and a buy two sushi rolls for $12.99, we decided to give Legends a try. Everyone had a couple of sushi rolls and I decided to sample different nigiri sushi so I can gauge the freshness and quality. Salmon, if not fresh (or as fresh as can be in Reno) can be oily and fishy. This wasn't it. It can tell it was previously frozen due to the texture. As fresh texture has more resistance when biting down vs previously frozen tends to be softer, less bounce when biting. But it was good or even better than some other local sushi offerings. Tako or boiled octopus, is almost never fresh caught / cooked at any restaurant other than Japan. Even in the Bay Area, Tako is usually bought cooked but not frozen. This is where it can affect the quality. If frozen, it can make the tako kind of stringy and mushy. When it's not frozen the tako is firm and slightly chewy. I can tell this tako travelled a little but it wasn't frozen. Unagi or grilled eel, is almost always purchased cooked by most restaurants other than what I've had in Japan. Similar to tako, it is usually shipped refrigerated but not frozen. All restaurants will serve unagi over rice with a drizzle of unagi sauce. The flesh should be tender and any bones will be super thin and not a problem to eat. There weren't any bones which is a plus. This unagi didn't appear to be previously frozen. We also has the edamame, which is tossed in garlic and salt with some oil. Very tasty on a simple dish. If cigarette smoke bothers you, there wasn't any in the restaurant but apparent everywhere in the casino, so plan ahead. The tables were about 30% capacity and even with that, the order to service gap was fairly long. Our server was pleasant and willing to explain how the player's card program worked. Would I come back for sushi here? Sure, but I better be hungry to get full value from the all you can eat.
