Hadn't been here in a while but I always remember really liking their ribs and they did not disappoint. Best ribs in Reno/ Sparks, so good that BBQ sauce is totally unnecessary , the dry rub and beautiful smoke ring are sooo tasty!! Service was very good, nice folks down there, not much in the way of atmosphere but i kind of like the simplicity because it reminds me of my youth when most restaurants didn't have 10 tvs in them and you were going there to eat, not to be entertained . Amazing. Those were some competition ribs, dry rub was perfect and they were bite off the bone ribs. No tough ribs or gristle. Beans were tasty and had pieces of meat in there with a nice kick. We live in northern California but had to travel to the Reno area again this weekend. We were looking forward to having some good BBQ after running our errands. We have been meaning to try Carolina Kitchen for some time and finally did. It was worth the wait. I love brisket and know when I have had good brisket. We were not disappointed. The brisket was flavorful, juicy, and had that perfect "accordion" stretch to it when its done just right. The moonshine BBQ sauce was just great. Sweet, smoky, and complimented the brisket perfectly. It was so good, we took a pound of brisket home. I'm just afraid its not going to last too long. Visited this evening. Food was great & plentiful, as always. The girl that rang us up was nice, but then . . . . I ordered a beer to drink w/dinner. Beer is in a refrigerator that you can access yourself. When I got my meal, I asked for an ice water, and I picked up my beer. She said I had to pay for the beer, accusing me of already taking one. Eventually, she let me have the beer, but obviously still thinks I'm a thief. Why did we tip 20% for someone who doesn't serve to out table, if I can't afford my beverage? If they don't trust customers, they should take the refrigerator to the back. I'm certain they inventory product, and there's a camera in the dining room. This place is renowned for its brisket. I have tried it when family members brought it home. I went in for the first time today. The lady got my brisket conbo right, but she messed up my side order of mac and cheese. The wait was short. I got home, and the mac and cheese was not the size I ordered. We've been wanting to try Carolina Kitchen for months now, and since we were at the vicinity doing errands, well, I'm driving for my husband, as a reward for my labor of love, he treated his meat-lover wife to Carolina Kitchen! It was an old Southern restaurant vibe, and when you are inside you would know that "yes, they are serving good ribs or any grilled meal. I ordered ribs with sides of rice and beans, and Mac and cheese. Since it's dry rub, the skin or top of the meat was a bit hard, but the meat inside was so tender, so it is still a must try. Also, the meat is tasty, there's no need for you to put some bbq sauce. I didn't, but they provided one in case you want to have sauce on your ribs. I do like my rice and beans. I shared my meal with my son, and he ate much of the Mac and cheese, because they tasted better than the other. My husband ordered fish and chips, and oh boy, its batter was so crispy and felt like they use new cooking oil every time. I like the fries too, you can tell that they didn't serve those frozen fries from the grocery. For beverage, we ordered its homemade iced tea and lemonade, they are good. We've been refilling it a few times. They put a world map by the door, and asked you to pin your home country, to see how many diners from other countries who visited the place. I took a photo of the map of my country, the Philippines. I won't be surprised if Filipinos love this restaurant, because we are born meat lovers! I also took a photo of the map of North Korea, because it was interesting that a tourist from a very strict communist country came to visit the place -- or maybe someone pin it just for fun. The ladies at work and I decided to get Carolina Kitchen & BBQ for lunch. I got 1/4 brisket combo, my co-workers order the chicken tender combo and a 2-meat combo with ribs and pulled pork. I called up to place our order and informed the gentleman at the restaurant that we will be paying with cash. When I arrived at the restaurant, the place was pretty busy for Thursday afternoon, so I still had to wait for my order. The young lady behind the counter was apologetic for the wait but it was only about 15 minutes, so it wasn't too bad. My co-workers really enjoyed their food although my coworker didn't enjoy her North Carolina habanero bbq sauce because to her it tasted too sweet. While I really enjoyed my moonshine bbq sauce, the potato salad and red beans and rice that was included with my meal. I found the brisket a little dry but I was ecstatic to receive medium four slices. Overall, our dining experience was still positive: our meals were tasty, the price was reasonable and the service good. We just had the chance to try food from Carolina Kitchen's Food Truck at the local beer event. Even with the lines of people, they served us fast and the food was good. They had two of their sandwiches offered at the event: the pulled pork or the brisket with choice of sides. I like the waffle fried and they are so much better that regular ole stick fries and the mac and cheese was really good. We each got a meal and we tried each others food and we found we liked both. The meat was tasty just a little chewy and dry. It was served without the sauce so it may have needed more sauce. We were told before that their restaurant is a great place to eat so now we will have to go in and try some other dishes and report back on Yelp. I've met lots of fantastic people, seen landscapes which have given me perspective of my place in the greater scheme of things, and, most importantly, I've been able to sample some of the best food in every region -- especially BBQ. Texas beef ribs. St. Louis style. Baby backs. The mustard/vinegar-based sauces of the Carolinas. I love them all. Brisket, though... Brisket was always dry and reminiscent of boot leather. None of this is accurate about the brisket of Carolina Kitchen on Glendale. The meat is juicy, tender, and sports a generous amount of a sweet/salty/smoky rub which forms the perfect bark.. Pair it up with a side of crunchy and tender hush puppies, some golden mustard sauce or maybe the smoky/sweet Moonshine BBQ sauce for a killer meal. The ambiance is textbook Carolina BBQ shack and the staff is warm and friendly. The comforting language of Southern Hospitality is spoken fluently here While the brisket is my favorite item on the menu. Don't miss out on other delectables like the pork ribs, the smoked chicken wing nachos red beans and rice, or the gumbo. Do NOT forget to leave room for bread pudding or pecan pie. One other item I should mention is the seasonal special -- smoked turducken sausage. This is delicious and much easier to get your fix than buying a whole turducken. Gave it one final try and this is definitely my last meal here 1/21/25. Its not the same as it used to be and is no longer one of my favorite Bbq places. I bought a 10 rib plate with tater tots and fried okra. I ordered a piece of pecan pie for dessert. Out of the 10 ribs ordered, six tasted and seemed like they were fresh, while four were lukewarm at best and seemed like they were cooked a prior day. I must also add that I was there at 11 o'clock when they opened so none of the food I ordered should've been cold or lukewarm. The fried okra seemed as if it was just microwaved and not fried and the cornbread was cold and overall it was just not an enjoyable experience. Over the past 10+ years that I've been going up there I've had some great meals. I used to always tell people it is my favorite. That's just not the case anymore. The smokiness of the beef is great but not overpowering. Along with the fresh onion and cilantro mix plus the salsa verde, these tacos have wonderful flavor. I have many favorites on the menu including the slaw dog, the pulled pork sandwich, and of course the brisket plate with Mac and cheese, cornbread, and hush puppies.
