There was a time when once a week, the fam and friends would stuff our faces with food and smiles at Buca's. The kids are grown and friends are often busy, but Buca is just as delicious as ever. There is only one place for marvelous chicken Marsala, ask my wife, from San Diego to San Francisco, she knows. Brea's leather seats felt like a comfortable old sofa, and the photos still brought a chuckle. We appreciate the warm hospitality ALDO gave us, and the good drinks. Thank you Buca and Aldo, nothing like old memories with a big slice of Tiramisu. I just wish to respond to Paul H's review briefly. Yes prices have gone up. Whereas competitors like Macaroni Grill have gone out of business, Alas, ( also great Chx Marsala ). Anybody can slap a pizza together cheaply for $10. I Mean what is Italian about Pizza Hut? The restaurant business is tough. I gladly paid for two small plates over a large. It cost more, but even the small plates sent us home with leftovers. Amanda at the bar is fantastic. My husband and I came on a Saturday night. The wait was an hour long but we were told we could go to the bar, but it would probably be long for service. Amanda was so attentive, made an amazing Italian primo margarita and is so personable. We've had her as our server a few times now and she is always warm and attentive. Food never disappoints. We had rigatoni and our favorite prosciutto stuffed chicken. Amazing. We redeemed a birthday colossal brownie and it is massive. We will have dessert for a week. Amazing food as always! I'm glad they brought my favorite pasta back, the Linguini Frutti Di Maré. They took it out of the menu since COVID, according to our awesome waiter, Amanda! She made our experience feel like home. Ambiance was great too, the Buca di beppo atmosphere. A little pricey now, but inflation I guess lol. Calamari tastes great & used to be way more generous but now I don't think it's worth $30 for the small portion. It could be bigger. Pasta was enough for 2 hungry adults. Re-visted Buca di Beppo this past weekend for a birthday lunch and I was surprised to see the restaurant pretty empty during lunch hours. Our party of 10 (7 adults, 3 toddlers) had reservations but it didn't seem like that was necessary. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately in the room with the lazy Susan and Pope on the table. A nice little private space for larger parties. Nico (the man) was an excellent server throughout our stay and provided comedic entertainment, too! We were checked up upon frequently and received attentive service. To start, warm loafs of bread were dropped off with a balsamic & oil mix to dip. To share, we ordered a large apple gorgonzola salad ($43), Buca trio platter ($39), large pepperoni pizza ($43), small spicy chicken rigatoni ($38), and a large frutti di mare ($58). Nico warned us this would be a lot of food considering the size of our party which I'm glad he mentioned as we switched one of our pasta's to a smaller size. There were definitely leftovers at the end for another meal. Of the bunch, I enjoyed the spicy chicken rigatoni the most but wish there were more pieces of chicken throughout the pasta - it does have a nice kick that may be too spicy for the little ones. My second favorite was the apple gorgonzola salad - the spiced walnuts were a great addition and really tied everything together. Not a fan of the trio platter as the shrimp was excessively spicy and the other items were just okay - nothing special for the high price tag. Since we were celebrating two birthdays, Nico dropped off a HUGE portion of brownie chunks and vanilla+chocolate combo ice cream topped with whip cream and rainbow sprinkles. To my surprise, the brownies were nice and soft with a good chew and had chocolate chips sprinkled in for extra chocolatey goodness. A great treat to end the meal. read more
