The effort is here but it falls seriously short. I won't be back…read more I came in for dinner on a Sunday evening and it was dead empty outside of another couple eating. The space was decorating very interesting. And truly that's the best was I can describe it. It seemed like a forced, sophisticated but eclectic vibe. Which resulted in me feeling like I was in a vampire lair awaiting to be abducted to a back room where I'd never return from. Sounds fun? But in an empty dining room with music that made me uncomfortable, it did far from seem appealing. The food is grossly overpriced. And let me remark that I am not appalled by a high ticket price for a ribeye at around $60-$70. But an $80 ribeye just wasn't sitting well for me at a restaurant that's dead... the appetizers ALL started a range at $22 and up. While they did seem worth a try, not at $38 for foie gras appetizer. We tried the calamari and it was quite tasty! The best marinara I'd had to be fair. Oh!!! Don't sleep on the bread because it was the highlight of our dinner. Fiancée had the duck with mashed potatoes and ratatouille. The duck was not good and the potatoes were very average. The portions were also very small... not exciting for a $60 plate that left me needing more. The ratatouille was amazing and the only speciality food I'd give praise to. Everything else on the plate was weak at best. I had the lobster risotto and it was one of the worst dishes I've ever had. The risotto was mushy, the sauce made it all watery, and the vegetables in there felt like they were frozen bag to plate... and the lobster? The only thing they reeled me in with and it was gross. Chewy, tasteless, and honestly annoying to eat because it was so unsatisfying. All of this food was grossly overpriced for what actually hit the table. Which is probably why most images are from the business owner himself. If they came down $15-$20 would make it less of a jab of an experience but honestly, I hated dinner and this was my date night... I'm so disappointed and I hope you don't waste your time or money doing so either.

The restaurant itself has a cozy, intimate feel and was fairly busy, but we were seated right away. Service was excellent from start to finish: warm, attentive, and professional. For the appetizer, we started with the foraged mushrooms, and this was probably my second favorite dish of the meal. The mushrooms were beautifully buttery and had a nice depth of flavor. My only criticism was the seasoning, the dish leaned noticeably salty, particularly when eaten on its own. A little more restraint with the salt would have let the natural earthiness of the mushrooms come through. For dinner, I'm gonna start with from my least fav: the Alaskan Wild Caught Halibut (which was the chef's daily special). Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment of the meal. The description sounded excellent...parmesan crust, leaf spinach, blistered heirloom tomatoes, and a lobster cognac beurre blanc. The execution fell short. The halibut was quite dry and lacked the clean flavor I expect from a well-prepared piece of fish. The beurre blanc had potential, but the sauce didn't have the freshness or brightness I was hoping for, and overall the dish felt somewhat flat. Given that this was the chef's special, I expected much more. The Poached Lobster & Truffle Pasta was better, but still not a standout. The combination of butter-poached lobster, capellini, lemon zest, English peas, Parmesan-Reggiano, capers, and Burgundy truffle sounds incredibly promising. There were definitely layers of flavor, but the dish itself felt drier than I expected. I was hoping for something more silky and cohesive, especially with the lobster and truffle. Instead, the individual elements didn't quite come together the way I expected. My clear favorite was the Prime Steak Fillet. The steak had the most satisfying flavor of everything we ordered, and I particularly enjoyed the accompanying tomato!!! It had a really nice balance of acidity and seasoning that complemented the steak beautifully. This was the one dish that really delivered for me. Overall, I really wanted to love this place. I came in with high expectations because of everything I'd heard, and while the service, atmosphere, and hospitality were all excellent, the food was inconsistent. The mushrooms and steak were enjoyable, but the two dinner entrées didn't quite hit the mark for me.

The food was incredible! My husband and I both ordered the filet, along with the green beans and potatoes, and everything was delicious. And the desserts? We ordered four, and they were absolutely phenomenal! If you have a sweet tooth, save room because they will blow you away! Sorry for one more review but I haveta note this for you…read more At lunch Friday we began, as always, with the tropical vibed shrimp and mango ceviche. It is a delightful medley of shrimp, fruit and vegetable colors, flavors, and textures. We wanted to share a fish dish and discussed the several offerings with our delightful and efficient server, Shara. I'm quite deaf and consequently always miss a lot. Today that cost me for the entree that we selected $20 more than I thought but it proved to be totally worth it! We opted for the Chilean Sea Bass. What I did not hear is Shara say that she loves this dish as it is prepared for the dinner menu where it is served atop an amazingly savory, creamy lobster risotto surrounded by a garnish of bright green pesto aioli. I said, "Well, lets go with that dish". So glad we did! The fish could not have been cooked any more perfectly and the fish with the lobster risotto and pesto just sang. As always the remarkable kitchen here plated beautifully the shared entree for us separately. No split plate charge. This proved to be the most enjoyable restaurant dish we've had in a very good while. So happy I did not hear Shara as I probably would have declined ordering the dinner menu version. Hahaha. Sometimes being deaf pays off. The vibe at Al Biernat's is always so enjoyable.

We arrived early and grabbed pre-dinner cocktails on the patio, which honestly set the tone for the evening. The fire pit tables + evening atmosphere were perfect. We kept it classic with Old Fashioneds and martinis, and both were very well executed. Simple, balanced, and clearly made by someone who knows what they're doing. There was also a blueberry graham cracker cocktail (can't remember the name, unfortunately) that was surprisingly delicious and easily could've been dessert in a glass. The tasting itself was an 8-course menu and absolutely incredible. Since this was a one-night pop-up, I won't go into detail on the food, but every course was thoughtful, creative, and genuinely delicious. One of those meals where you're excited for the next plate the second the last one's cleared. Service really stood out. The team was attentive without hovering, cleaned up seamlessly between courses, and made sure our drinks were never empty. They also offered solid wine pairings that complemented the menu really well and elevated the experience overall. One extra thing that really sealed it for me: after dinner, the second chef Taylor and the owner/manager Tanner came over and hung out with us for a bit. As someone who's a bit of a foodie nerd, I genuinely appreciate when chefs and operators take the time to talk food, concepts, and the thought behind the menu. It made the experience feel personal and intentional, not just transactional. If this pop-up is any indication of what Rye is capable of, it's definitely a place worth returning to. Great atmosphere, great drinks, and a team that clearly cares about the experience. Would absolutely come back.

You'll find other such fancy words on the Rye menu. I'm warming you up. I'm personally restaurant illiterate, so wasn't this place's target audience. And it didn't help that my fiancée and I had just come from Four Day Weekend Improv down the street, so I was preoccupied with questioning whether I could make 200 people laugh on command like they did. My fiancée, on the other hand, IS restaurant literate. And she loved it here. While my reaction to the "Icelandic Hotdog" on the menu was to groan, she got excited at the prospect of a bitesized piece of foreign sausage. When my cocktail came out with an 8" inch ice rectangular prism in it, I was more excited about whipping it around the glass than I was about drinking it. My fiancée commented on the "notes of parsley." Regardless, Rye is great. Lower Greenville needed a fine dining experience that appeals to foodies and cocktail lovers, and Rye is that place.
