    Spicy Papaya Salad

The famed Bone and Kettle lived up to its reputation! Dine LA was the perfect excuse to finally try out this spot! We stopped by for brunch and sampled quite a few dishes off their menu. Our spread included the Spicy Papaya Salad, Salted Egg Crispy Shrimp, Bone Kettle Bone Broth & Noodles with Braised Oxtail, Duck & Pandan Waffles, and Island Rice Plate. Most of these were recs from our server! Everything was delish! Loved seeing Southeast Asian flavors getting spotlighted in such tasteful ways. Their Bone Broth was insane- definitely have mastered their craft here and lived up to their name. You get to pick your protein (we went with the Braised Oxtail- highly recommend) and it comes with a side of noodles. Perfectly shareable or enjoyed solo. Like I said, you really can't go wrong with so many hits on the menu, but definitely give their bone broth a sip!

Yesterday evening I met a friend I haven't seen in a while for dinner and we chose to do the Dine LA menu. I had never been to Bone Kettle and didn't know what to expect, but wow the service was impeccable! Our waters were kept full, and waiters were swift to clear empty plates or wipe the table before placing the next courses down! The ambiance is lightly dimmed and intimate and very spacious both indoor and outdoors seating. To begin I had the malaria corn riblets and silly me I tried to eat it with a chopsticks and biting right through it. LOL. When I realized the cob is there I ended up using my hands to eat it and I did feel like I'm in a nice restaurant but using my hands felt a bit weird but that's OK, it was absolutely delicious, the corn was easily pulled off the cob and the aoli had a very rich flavor. To drink we were offered the $25 surprise option which was between white or red wine and we chose the red. Our surprise wine was the Abondanza red and paired absolutely perfectly with the meal. For the second course my friend and I both chose the Nasi Udok and boy were we happily smelling the scent of the food and digging right in. Those braised eggs had an amazing taste accented by whatever the sauce was on top I've never had an egg like this. The Cornish hen was lightly crunchy on the outside and nice and hot and juicy on the inside. Absolutely delicious paired with the rice which had this aromatic ginger smell and taste too me that just complemented everything so well. For the last course was dessert and we got the Panna cotta. This is not your average Panna Cotta, no it's amazing. The cheesy base sits in a pool of sauce and little green tid bits that my friend and I can't guess what they are. Instead of being a sweet sweet dessert, the Panna Cotta was a sweet savory dish. I loved the variation and I savored every bite. Definitely a very delicious and amazing experience that I recommend next time you're in the area!

Wow! Bone kettle did not disappoint! I had the fried rice, lumpia, ribs and Brussels sprouts. Everything was so good, but the star of the show was the Lychee Martini. It was perfect! The service was great as well! I'll be coming back very soon!

The food is pretty good and definitely unique compared to what is typically found in the SGV area. It's a mix of different southeast Asian cuisines together, with a Western twist. Portion sizes are great, and definitely filling. Service is a bit slow, and the food does take a while to come out.

I decided to come here for a birthday celebration and ooo la la the ambiance really set the mood. Service was spectacularrr. I appreciated our server for constantly checking in. Now, let's get to the important part- the FOOD! -Garlic Prawns: 5/5 WOW chef's kiss. I got this because of all the positive reviews I saw on Yelp. I love love love how they left the shrimp's skin in the dish, where you could eat them like chips! They were not hard at all...and perfectly crisped! -Thai Steak Salad: 5/5 the steak MELTS in your mouth and was not chewy at all. I'm not sure how they were able to make the steak so soft and delicious. -Crying Tiger Lambchops: 5/5 I'm not a fan of lamb, but these lamb chop were deliciouso!! The sauced up lettuce side that it came with, complimented the lamb really well. -Nasi Goreng w/ Wagyu Ribeye Cap: 4/5 This Indonesian fried rice was good, but the Wagyu meat kind of tasted a bit odd, but maybe that's just me because my bf loved it. -Singaporean Chili Lobster: 3.5/5 I wasn't really a fan of this since the based flavor had such a strong tomato/ketchup taste... When I made the reservation, I politely requested if there was a way for them to make the bday celebration special, and I'm glad I wrote that because at the end of our meal, our server brought out a Pandan Crème Brulee: 5/5 !!! It was very delicious that we devoured it all! Overall I will def be back to try the oxtail dumplings that I saw people constantly ordering. Note, there is a 20% tip charge that automatically gets added to your check!

Bone Kettle has become one of my favorite restaurants, and it's one of those places I keep coming back to because it's consistently amazing. If you come for dinner, do yourself a favor and order the Brussels sprouts, they're only available at dinner, and I genuinely get them every single time. They're that good. The noodle soups are always incredible too. The broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and no matter how many times I've been, the quality has never changed. That kind of consistency is hard to find and really keeps me coming back. The service is always friendly and the food comes out surprisingly quickly, even when they're busy. I also appreciate that they're a tipless restaurant with a 20% service charge already included. It's nice knowing the staff is taken care of without having to think about calculating a tip at the end.

Like most people, this place has been on my list for awhile. First thing you notice is how big it is. There are tables everywhere. Outdoor seating in the front like half of Pasadena still has from the pandemic days, plus a back courtyard. The building itself is beautiful and definitely adds to the experience. We accidentally showed up during happy hour without realizing it, which worked out nicely. We ordered the wings and lumpia. The lumpia were MASSIVE, basically egg-roll sized. Honestly though, I wasn't really a fan of either appetizer. Of course the broth is the star of the show. That's why you're here. I could have sat there drinking that broth all day. I almost finished the whole thing but ended up saving some to take home because I wanted to experiment with it on other food later. Looking back, I also completely failed my first visit. I didn't even order noodles or rice. That's like going to a burger place and forgetting fries. So part of me feels like I still haven't actually done Bone Kettle correctly yet. The one thing that kept throwing me off was the music. Somebody had on what felt like a 2021 club remix playlist. Maybe that works after 8pm, but for a 5:30 dinner crowd it felt weirdly distracting. The room and the building have one vibe, the music had another. There was also a ton of staff working. They're incredibly attentive, maybe a little too attentive. The water glasses aren't very big, so it felt like every three sips someone was back at the table refilling them. I found it a little distracting at first, but then again, I'd rather have a full glass than an empty one. I'd definitely come back and try more dishes because the menu is huge and there are a lot of things that looked interesting walking past other tables. Then again... this is Pasadena. There's also about a hundred other places I've been meaning to try first. The broth though? I'd come back for that alone.

Bone Kettle is a Pasadena gem! Delicious Filipino fusion cuisine. My go to is the bone broth soup with top sirloin. The broth is rich and light, with chewy ramen noodles. It's a clean yet flavorful broth that I really enjoy. The lectin here is so juicy and crunch, and the picked carrots and radish pair well to balance the fat. Vibes here a low light setting, great for date night. Service here has always been great as well. An amazing dining experience in Pasadena!

Make a reservation or you will not be a happy camper for dinner. This place is great and it shows by the fact that you really want a reservation. Bone Kettle is in Old Towne Pasadena. It is a beautiful spot to have lunch, dinner or brunch. We have tried all, but we do love their dinner menu the best. Parking can be a pain, but you will be fine. The place is super clean and new looking, although we have been coming for a few years now. The service is great, from the Hostess to the servers, all were on their game as was the kitchen. Our food was perfect and we have zero complaints. You must try Bone Kettle. It is worth it. It is Asian food and boy is it great. It is upscale Asian and you can taste it in every bite. Their Beef Ribs which is a Bone Kettle signature dish- also has fried shallots, scallions. It is so tender and juicy. I am not in love with their Oxtail dumplings, but they were very good and my grandson is in love with them. They are juicy and just so fresh tasting. Their Rendang Carbonara is a must try. It is 24hr braised shredded short ribs, fried shallots, chives, micro cilantro, parmesan cheese, bell peppers, noodles, bacon and poached egg. You can add bone marrow for about 12$. Do that. Finally, and we love all the food, but the Seafood Char Kway Teow is a must if you like fishcakes. It is rice noodles, pork lap cheong, prawns, fishcake, clams, mussels, calamari, bean sprouts, egg, fried shallots, green onions and great chives and chili oil. The oysters in the shell are also great. Have fun.

Not gonna say I love this place nor will I say I like this place. It's just OK. There are other great restaurants in Pasadena that I'd rather go to. I do love trying fusion restaurants, but I would rather go to a restaurant that specializes in a certain region or type of food. Also, they will automatically add 20% tip on your overall bill.

Come for the delicious brunch menu!! The bone broth pho is a must. It was so delicious I wish I had more room in my stomach to finish the last bits of it. So flavorful and savory. Perfect for a cold rainy day. Friend got the steak and eggs. It came out on a sizzling platter and was juicy upon cutting into it. Flavors were also delicious as well. Can't wait to try other things on the menu.

Made a reservation for 6:30 on a Friday night and were seated immediately. The inside is not huge, but the vibes are immaculate and feel super cozy. Our server was also so nice and even itemized and split the bill for us, which I always appreciate with group dinners. Also worth noting, they have a no tipping policy because there is an automatic 20% service fee, but they fully disclose that upfront so there are no surprises. I got the bone broth with noodles because the broth looked way too good to pass up, and honestly... the broth absolutely lived up to the hype. So rich, flavorful, and exactly the kind of thing I wanted to keep drinking forever. The actual noodles and beef were a little underwhelming though. At one point the noodles kind of gave instant noodle vibes, which felt like a missed opportunity because the broth deserved better. I almost wish there were different noodle options or honestly just less noodles because I mostly just wanted to sip the broth. We also tried the ube gnocchi, which sounded amazing in theory, but it ended up being a little too creamy for me and I did not get as much ube flavor as I was hoping for. The real standout besides that incredible broth was the chicken wings. So crispy, so tender, and ridiculously flavorful. Absolutely would order those again.

    Nancy T.

We made plans to have brunch with the girls. We looked over the menu and ordered three dishes. The food took way too long to come out. They also charged a 20% service fee upfront. Other than that, everything was okay.

This place is mostly famous for their Turon. Just the right amount of crunch to sweetness ratio. I especially love that they have catering trays for everything you would want to bring to a filipino party. You can order their Turon in orders of 5 or more which gives you plenty of options if you want people to share. The pieces are pretty long so my tip would be to cut them in half to feed more mouths. Last time I went I got their lumpia and pancit bihon. My goodness!! Delicious and so fresh. The noodles I ate for days even after the party but everyone enjoyed it. I like the thin and thick noodles so happy they offered more than just the traditional pancit. Plenty of lumpia sauce was given and was thankful they hooked it up. The team at Chaaaste is phenomenal!! Honestly everyone is so friendly and kind. They always ask me about my day and curious where I'm going with all their delicious food. So family oriented and you could tell they put a lot of love into their food. I especially love seeing the Lola's and Aunties behind the counter at the register. So sweet! They have a small parking lot but I never had issues parking. There are always spots open. It's in a small plaza, but they offer everything you could need filipino. There's even a convenience store and some steam table staples available throughout the day. Their longanisa is fire and can't go wrong with anything they have hot and fresh. While I was staring at the menu deciding whether I wanted to get anything, several people came and went with their orders and everyone told me to get the fried chicken. So, I went inside and got the fried chicken with macaroni salad. A few mintues later, I added a katsu musubi to the order. This is not fast-food. The wait is real. About 12 minutes. I then had probably about 10 minutes of driving before I sat down to eat. The fried chicken is delicious and has a great crispy/crunchy skin. There is a faint sweetness that coats the chicken. The meat was not super plump like some national-chain places (I think those places brine-injected the chicken). Depending on your preference, this might feel too dry to you. Their dipping sauce for the chicken is very tasty. If they just sold that in bottles, I'd come just to buy that for use at home! Speaking of preferences, the macaroni salad is also well made, but it's simple and might be disappointing if you're expecting some kind of flavor kick. I liked it very much, because it is in the style of the basic macaroni salad -- someone described it as going home to Hawaii for them -- and I think that's what it is. Portions were enough to split into two meals. So I had half of my chicken and the mac salad. I had planned to also only eat half of the musubi. But it was delicious and had a nice crunch which I'm sure would not have held up being kept in the fridge. I really enjoyed the musubi on its own, but also enjoyed taking turns with bites with that sauce added on. I stored the rest of the chicken and mac salad in the fridge and then had them for dinner 6 hours later. Despite being in the fridge, the chicken still had a bit of a crunchy bite to it - it wasn't a mushy soggy mess. Very friendly service. This is not a sit-down place you go to for a dining experience - just a solid place to get food to go that will be delicious. Now that I've had the fried chicken that everyone seems to recommend, I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their menu.

It is a small, unassuming little place with a free parking lot. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly, and I have to say, the service was great! The lady at the counter was super sweet and made small talk with me. I got my order which came out to $17.12 after tax. Food-wise, the fried chicken was indeed delicious! I loved the batter: it was shatteringly crisp. The chicken was tender and flavored well, but I loved the sauce that came with it! For the mac salad, I thought it was just okay. It tasted a bit plain from other mac salads I've tried, but the noodles were cooked perfectly. For the price, the portion size is okay, but I'm not complaining since the food was good. Overall, the friendly service and fried chicken is what makes me want to come back again! I definitely want to try their other offerings too. Would recommend!

4.5 stars. Sorry,…read moreguys - I'm still catching up on my reviews and am kicking myself for failing to write this before Spoon & Pork permanently shut its doors. This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.

As a second-generation Filipino-American, I would be lying if I didn't say that I had rather high expectations for Spoon & Pork, but as always, I try my best to keep any biases aside & curb any + all expectations. That said, Spoon & Pork is quite the anomaly. What I mean by that is that you have the hallmarks of any typical Filipino restaurant: simple interiors with modest decor, & beyond hospitable wait staff - especially our host, but the techniques & presentations of their dishes are something that you'd find at the highest of fine dining establishments. The irony is kind of nice because I don't feel so guilty about rocking a simple t-shirt + jeans, while enjoying what I'd expect to served at an establishment along Rodeo Dr. FOOD: Appetizer Lumpia Shanghai - 8.0 / 10 Perhaps the most famous of Filipino appetizers / street foods. I pride myself of bringing trays of these myself to any gathering because who doesn't love crispy, crunchy, meat-stuffed egg rolls that you can pop into your mouth? Here, the only real difference is that the individual pieces are longer that what you'd typically find. The pork + veggie dumpling is the same as elsewhere as well as your sweet + sour sauce. Nothing exactly to write home about, but delicious nonetheless Side Adobo Rice - 7.7 / 10 I feel like I've had this before & even made it myself. Simply put, imagine mixing plain, white rice into a cauldron of adobo broth. The very small pieces of meat are nice, but again, it's we're not exactly re-inventing the wheel here. It is a very nice upgrade vs. ordering your standard issue steamed (white) rice. Entrées Tapa - 9.0 / 10 A favorite of mine growing up as a kid. But whereas my mother would fry thin strips of beef, almost to a dehydrated crisp (think thicker, moister beef jerky), their rendition is quite different. Heartier chunks of premium quality beef, generously swimming in a broth of soy, vinegar, & garlic. This was personally my favorite dish of the night & a nice interpretation of a Filipino staple. The atchara (papaya, carrots, and red bell peppers, in tangy brine) provided a nice + refreshing counterpoint. Adobo Pork Belly - 8.9 / 10 If you ask anyone who knows anything about Filipino cuisine, the word "adobo" will almost always come to mind. But "Filipino style" adobo is quite different in meaning to its Spanish counterpart. In this case, we're referring to the classic preparation of any dish in a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce peppercorns, garlic, & bay leaves. Your boy definitely love pork belly (fatty unsmoked bacon of steroids), but the delicate pieces of meat smothered in the classic sauce was something of a revelaltion. I honestly didn't know how I haven't stumbled upon Pork Belly in Adobo (sauce) sooner than now. Highly recommended if you want to they the most classical Filipino flavor but with a modern take. As far as parking goes, availability is limited to the rather small number of spaces that they share with the fish taco shack immediately adjacent. But metered parking in aplenty. PRO TIP: Having actually lived about less than 100 yards away from this very restaurant (I moved away 1 year before they opened this location), drive up Westerly Terrace & you'll likely find some non-designated residential parking spots & just walk on over. Spoon & Pork are doing some very innovative things in Filipino cuisine. Combining modern techniques to traditional flavors. This place definitely deserves your business!

This is more upscale, almost fine dining Filipino food. Something I have never experienced before. We were very intrigued and were excited to try the food. If you're looking for a carinderia or turo-turo taste, this ain't it so don't come expecting that. Menu is not extensive, which is what we like. I have a hard time at Cheesecake Factory and that just stresses me out. I feel like their food menu is compact, thoughtfully created, and appealing. We had a very difficult time not ordering the entire menu. So we ended up eating almost half of it. Drinks menu was also very innovative and the drinks were STRONG. I also appreciate that they have non-alcoholic versions of some of their drinks. I wasn't indulging that day so Hubby and I were able to sample one of each type. Calamansi Mojito ($20) for him and Ube Horchata ($14) for me. As for what we ate: Manila Mais ($18) - 2.5/5 stars - It was, okay. Filipino-ized version of Mexican elote, corn-ribs style. Though it had Filipino elements like the bagoong butter, it didn't really taste like anything different. And to be honest, the bagoong butter didn't bring anything to the table the way it was presented to the side of the corn. It was too hard and just sat on the elote as you ate it. Kare Kare Tamales ($26) - 5/5 stars - UH-AMAZING!!! I could have eaten two, regular-sized tamales versions of this as an entree instead of two smaller appetizer size. The braised oxtail inside the tamales was soft and tender but the peanut butter veloute was *chef's kiss*. You definitely tasted kare kare but in an innovative way. I just wish they had some steamed rice or bread so I could soak up the sauce. I almost cried when they took the plate away because I didn't want to waste the sauce! Bicol Express Mezzelune ($38) - 4/5 stars - I was eyeing this originally but opted not to until the chef came out and talked us into it. And I'm so glad he did! This was delicious! Ironically enough, I just cooked traditional Bicol Express the week before and this definitely hit those notes without being a carbon copy of it. Again, where was the rice?! Only thing I can dock is that I felt like the pasta was a tad too thick and was chewy to my taste. Otherwise, I would definitely order this again. Was the sleeper hit of the dinner. Crab Fat Fried Rice ($38) - 5/5 stars - Crab? Crab fat? In rice?? Of course, sign me up! So delicious and a very generous portion. I wanted to hoard it to myself but I guess I had to share with Hubby. Would order this again. Ribeye Salpicao ($96) - 3/5 stars - Not my favorite of the bunch and this surprised me because I love rib eye. It came out medium instead of the medium rare we ordered and the taste was just not to my preference. It's possible that it was just overshadowed by the other excellent dishes we had. Likely will not order again though the portion was generous. Two minor things I wish they had but not enough to dock stars: Rice and spoons. Come on, now! This is a Filipino place! These two are musts? How else could I mop up all the delicious sauces they put on the food?! Service was impeccable! From front of the house host, bartender, and the chefs, the experience was very welcoming and polished. We sat at the bar and was able to chat with the chefs when they came to introduce themselves to us and they were the nicest people. You felt like you came to a friend's house and not an impersonal stranger's. Will definitely be back to try the other half of the menu we missed and we'll be bringing friends!

The food was amazing, but the atmosphere was what really made the night special. And Chris, who took care of us, exceeded our expectations with his wonderful service. Next time, I'd love to bring my parents and share this experience with them. Highly recommend!
