I drooled over the coconut caramel frosting.

It's taken me 3 years to visit this fusion infused Filipino restaurant. And, it was worth the 1 hour drive. I felt nostalgic when I walked in because it brought a little bit of my culture back to me. The ambience was progressive. The food was as handsome as the chef, a James beard award recipient. And, I can't wait to be back for more.

Came here for a Filipino Employee Network dinner. Kuya Lord was nice enough to come out and take a photo with us! Ordered about half of the menu and everything was delicious! Been back twice since then to try out the traditional Lucban dishes. When I sent photos of the decor to my gf, she immediately knew that the chef was from Lucban and was extremely thrilled! Must tries: Lucban longganisa (savory) and the pancit habhab (noodles are specific to the region) as I tasted it, all I could think was "I've never had anything like this" confused but in a good way! Btw, Kuya Lord himself put habhab onto the Winter menu because I had specially requested it. You're welcome to anyone that had the opportunity to try it!

I've heard lots of good things about Kuya Lord, including the numerous accolades it had received from the food critics. It's a self service diner where you are expected to bus your own table. The diner is small so a table can be hard to come by during peak times. Parking can also be a bit of a challenge. Our favorite dish was the Lucenachon, which is the Filipino version of porchetta. The 2x cook pork was similar but a bit on the dry side. The blue prawns were decent if a bit salty; pretty expensive for such a small dish. The Pancit Sotangon vermicelli was pretty bland. The prime beef short rib was not what I'd expected. It was thinly sliced and sweet; it reminded me of the Chinese pork jerky. The food was overall decent but quite pricey for a small self serve diner.

Pancit Sotanghon. Thin glass noodles & crisp vegetables give this dish a well-rounded finish.

Kuya Lord brings a modern spin to Filipino comfort food without losing the warmth and soul that define the cuisine. Although the dining space is small (and you'll likely be sharing a communal table), it creates an intimate, bustling atmosphere where energy from the open kitchen and fellow diners becomes part of the experience. THE FOOD. - Rice Bowl with Beef Tocilog. The grilled prime beef short ribs were sweet, tender, and beautifully charred. The garlic rice was fragrant and cooked perfectly (slightly sticky). Of course, breakfast isn't breakfast without an over easy egg to break on top of the rice! And lastly, the tomato/cucumber salad & pickled green papaya helped to cut through the richness. Highly recommend. - Lucenachon Rice Bowl. The slow roasted pork belly was magnificently juicy; its crackling skin shattered with each bite, delivering that perfect salty crunch. If you like pork belly, highly recommend trying this out. - Pancit Sotanghon. The glass noodles lead the way; delicate, springy, and infused with patis (fish sauce) and aromatic seasoning. The medley of vegetables follows with crisp texture and earthy flavor, giving the dish a well-rounded finish. THE DRINK. - JuiceKoLord. Honey calamansi hibiscus juice; a sweet-tart combo that seemed more tart than sweet. I could only take a few sips at a time before feeling overwhelmed with the tartness. I still drank the whole thing though because I was taught not to waste food/drinks. lol. THE PARKING. Street parking is an option if you can snag it. We were not so lucky and ended up at a parking lot nearby, which we were probably not supposed to park in. #ohwell #tiredofcirclingaround THE VERDICT. Kuya Lord absolutely lives up to the hype. Bold flavors, thoughtful execution, and dishes that honor tradition while still feeling fresh and modern. A must-visit for Filipino food lovers!

Good LAWD there must be angels in the kitchen!!! Exquisite cuisine, intimate & homey interior and just the nicest staff! It was a very memorable experience filled with a lot of, "whaaattt da phuck", "are you tasting this ", "why is this so good" and "howtell me HOW" and these were shared expressions from all parties in our group...it was an synonymously a hit! We got the tray and loved everything on it as well as the calamansi cheesecake...yum to 10th degree! We'll be BACK!

Lucenachon Rice Bowl and Beef Tapsilog Rice Bowl

Undoubtedly the best lechon I've ever had! Or, possibly among the best pork belly I've ever had across any culture. We ordered two things: the Lucenachon rice bowl and the Beef Tapsilog rice bowl. These two dishes were $24 each. Spending $48 before tax/tip is a bit difficult to swallow for the amount of food you get. HOWEVER, there is the kuya tray for $45ish which might be the better overall value. This is my mistake entirely but I didn't know it was on the menu until after I'd ordered lol. The lucenachon is the real deal. The pork skin was insanely crispy, but super airy. This means it wasn't hard to bite through and the meat was extremely tender. I don't think you really even needed to chew that much for it to melt in your mouth. The veggies were very refreshing and balanced very well with the java garlic rice. The beef tapsilog was solid, but it was very reminiscent of Korean kalbi and not necessarily something that stood out from others I've tried. Be very warned: parking is extremely difficult; we parked a block or two down with meters, and even then we felt pretty lucky. The inside was also very small and we were the last ones to grab seats before the entire place was filled up...and that was ~30 minutes after they had just opened for evening service. Overall, super glad I visited Kuya Lord. The food is awesome and the quality is reflected in the preparation, plating, and service. I had just wished there was a better deal so I can order more from the menu.

Somewhere between a 4 and 5 for me, but I'll give them a 5 because the worker was just really nice and informative. We ordered the pancit Stanton with lechon, the lucenachon bowl and the tocilog bowl. It was all pretty good. Our least favorite was the lucenachon, but even that was a good dish, just not as good as everything else. Definitely one of the better Filipino food places I've eaten and I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

Savory Longsilog & Lechon Kawali Silog
    Jessica I.

So much flavor, of course with lots of garlic and vinegar. The skin on the lechon kawali was crispy, mm! This longsilog was also different and better than others I've had. It was a bit salty overall, and I think it was kinda crazy to be paying $50 for 2 silogs.

Heard a lot of great things about this place, so in true LA form we wanted to check out the hype so we came, we saw, we ate... Ambiance: 1 Stars Its a very small space, not great for groups or kids. Had to wait about 10 mins to get out of restaurant as a strange man was yelling and having a conversation with himself outside. It's not the restaurant's fault, but we didn't feel safe going outside. Service: ??? It's a counter - you order at the counter, and you pick it up from the counter when it's ready. Comparable to any fast-food restaurant, you serve yourself and bus your own table. Food: 3 stars We ordered everything, and there were no complaints, and nothing memorable either Parking: Take an Uber or circle until you find meter parking

Kuya Lord serves the best Filipino food I've ever had -- and honestly, some of the best authentic Asian cuisine in the area, period. You can feel the chef's passion in every dish. He's incredibly friendly and clearly cares about the food he puts out, which makes the whole experience even better. Everything is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the flavors are incredible. The sweet sausage and short ribs with the special rice were outstanding -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The sides complemented everything beautifully, and the gem salad was a refreshing surprise. Every dish feels thoughtful and carefully crafted. You really can't go wrong here -- it's the kind of food you think about long after you've left.

5 star Filipino Food!!! Hard to give Filipino food a five star since I think my grandmother and mom are the best Filipino cook lol. Got lucky to get a table for lunch when we arrived at 1130 on Sunday. Menu is limited but can't go wrong on trying a selection. We got the Lucerna LeChon plate, special dish- eggplant and tomatoes, and hiramasa collar. All dish were cooked perfectly- the LeChon was juicy and had crispy skin with accompanying achara (pickled vegetable, garlic fried rice, chami noodles. The grilled eggplant with burrata, and tomatoes dish was excellent- the flavor combination is amazing. Love the Almond wood-grilled Hiramasa collars with pickled veggies, dipping sauces: toyemans and chile garlic oil. Didn't make to desert but the calamansi pie looks great. They do have a house made homey calamansi hibiscus juice- very refreshing. The place is smallish having 5 tables but seems have access for outdoor seating infront and outside. Parking is street meter parking. They do have a restroom on the back. Definitely worth trying. And congrats to the James Beard Award.

The shop is small and gives Mom and pop shop vibes, but their rightfully deserved fame made them very busy so try to go during non-rush hours! Oh my God the double crisp on the pork belly with the tender porkbelly - it is wild haha. It almost felt unreal as I've never had this texture combination before. Now for flavors - everything is balanced and compliments each other The key lime pie is the Filipino version - coconut milk (you can taste a little of it) and calamansi lime (a lime grow in the Philippines) has a more floral taste and less of the acidic taste unlike the Persian limes traditionally used in the states. I really enjoyed these dishes and will come back for sure! I accidentally ate the key lime pie without taking a picture so the staff was nice enough to prepare one and let me take another picture! Thank you!

kuya tray - prawns, java garlic rice, Chami noodles, pickled green papaya; lucenachon, lechon kawali, honey calamansi juice
    Yiping K.

Parking - difficult to find street parking but manageable with patience Service/Vibe - quick, casual, and small Food: kuya tray - garlic crab sauce prawns (amazing), java garlic rice (delicious), Chami noodles (FAVE - great flavor), pickled green papaya; lucenachon (slow roasted pork belly) - good but fatty, lechon kawali aka 2x cooked pork (good and crispy), honey calamansi juice (fresh but very sweet)

Do they serve alcohol for dinner?

    Beer, wine

    Public parking lot closeby?

Nope, however...park in the neighborhoods. The food is so good you'll probably want to walk a little bit off 😂 that's what we do, we live about 15min walking distance from there and it sure helps

Anyone have a price range since there are no prices listed on the menu?

Please check out our website and click on Order Online. All prices are listed with photos and description. Thank you

    Is there a reservation?

No reservations. On a Sunday, I got in line 30 minutes before the restaurant opened and was the second group of six to enter. 30 minutes later, the line was out the door and tables full.

What is the parking situation for Kuya lord?

Street parking around the neighborhood only. You may have to park on the side streets and walk a block or three to get there. When we went, we were able to find a spot on Manhattan Place.

Do you have gluten/cross contamination, free food?

    We do.

    Are there vegan options?

Yes, mainly side dishes are vegan. Entrees are not; include pork, chicken or shrimp.

Do you do catering trays? Do you have gluten-free and dairy-free options?

Yes, we do have catering trays and we have GF/DF options.

Awesome I can order the Kuya Trays for Take out?

yes you can but it takes about 20 mins to get your food

We only tried the carbonara udon, but it was truly memorable. The sauce was creamy although a little split, but not overly salty which allowed the subtle umami and miso flavors to shine. The noodles were cooked well and had a gentle chew. The bacon was juicy with lots of fatty bits. Next time I would add an ontama to it to make it even better. The service was great and quick. Marugame Monzo's sauce, however, is the opposite of Menchirashi's. The sauce is SUPER flavorful with a rich, creamy mouthfeel and a strong umami flavor from the bacon and miso. I added mentaiko since I did the same at Menchirashi and honestly, everything was fantastic. The udon itself is pretty much exactly like fresh udon in Japan. Perfectly bouncy, chewy, and satisfying. Staff were also wonderful and service was insanely fast. We probably waited less than 10 minutes for both our udon and tempura, and they consistently checked in to make sure everything was good. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu, especially the uni cream udon. The only thing I didn't like was the shrimp tempura since it had a lot of batter and not a ton of shrimp, so it was on the greasy side. I did enjoy the soft boiled egg tempura though. The yolk exploded into the udon and somehow made the whole bowl even better hehe. There are plenty of tables inside with limited bar seating. If you're a 2 top you might be sharing a table real close with some neighbors (they put a divider). If there's a wait, write your name down on the clipboard outside!

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))

Rude all the way through table service, then when we were all finished, we had barely just paid and we were finishing our drinks when the same three workers rushed into our table to clear everything out and pushed us out of our table. We're all a pretty chill group of people but every single one of us left saying what the actual f*ck was their problem?

Seating is available inside and out. The restaurant inside is small. Open kitchen. Very cool to see the process. Hands down I highly recommend ordering the Handmade gyoza . They were juicy and flavorful. For ramen I went with the Daikokuya Ramen combination with chashu pork rice bowl. The ramen broth was rich in flavor. I added spicy oil. The noodles were perfectly cooked. The chashu pork was delicious. I would definitely come back and order everything again.

Had a long layover in LA after my flight to San Francisco got canceled, so instead of sitting at…read morethe airport for 6+ hours, I decided to finally check out Pine & Crane in DTLA. It's been sitting on my saved list for a while, and honestly, this turned out to be the perfect opportunity. The space itself is bright, clean, and welcoming with warm woody tones throughout. Casual setup where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I had already looked through the menu beforehand, so the real challenge was narrowing down what to order for one person. I failed at that... and I'm very happy I did. Started with the Pig Ear Salad 滷豬耳朵. Braised thin sliced pig ears dressed with soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, scallion, and cilantro. OMG. So good. Tender, flavorful, perfectly braised, with that satisfying chewy texture done right. Also got the Fried Peanut Salad 五味花生 with garlic, cilantro, scallions, vinegar, and Thai chili. Super crunchy, bright, refreshing, and honestly addicting. I added a cup of the Hot & Sour Soup 酸辣湯 too. Organic tofu, beech mushroom, carrot, bamboo, woodear mushroom, and egg. Super comforting with a really balanced tang and peppery heat. Not overly thick or heavy like a lot of Americanized versions can be. Exactly the kind of soup you want during a long travel day. For noodles, I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles 擔擔麵. Sesame-peanut sauce, cucumber, cilantro, crushed peanuts. Delicious on its own already, but I ended up adding some of the fried peanuts from the salad into the noodles and it became even better. Then the Three Cup Chicken 三杯雞 with sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine, and Thai basil. I do wish it had a little more wok hei, but overall the flavor was still really comforting and savory. Extremely good with rice. Had a glass of Gewürztraminer alongside everything, which paired surprisingly well with the spice and aromatics. Their wine list leans more organic / natural wine focused, which felt very LA in a good way. Ended up sitting at a high top next to one of the managers and had a great conversation throughout the meal. She ended up hooking me up with the Traditional Shaved Ice 傳統刨冰 with grass jelly, red bean, boba, sweet potato balls, taro balls, brown sugar syrup, and condensed milk. I was already planning to order it anyway, and wow... I finished the entire thing. The brown sugar syrup was incredibly fragrant. Packed the leftovers to-go, and that ended up becoming my dinner after landing in San Francisco later that evening. Flight cancellation somehow turned into a really great food day.

It is self-seating so you'll place the number on your table. They offer some utensils at the tables but it is also self service so you can get your own bowl, plates, utensils and water. FOOD I came with a large group so we ordered a good number of dishes. All the dishes were delicious, flavorful and above and beyond for what I find it to be more a fusion-Asian restaurant. I particularly liked their brown sugar milk team as it comes with boba and grass jelly. And their mochi was SO delicious. This would be a place my parents would enjoy a lot. PARKING It's in downtown LA so parking can be tough. There are plenty of paid parking structures nearby. WOULD I COME BACK? YES!

It almost made us want to leave and not dine here overall. On the food side, portions are definitely generous, especially for pasta. We ordered the crab gratin, mentai pasta, and the bolognese. My personal favorite was the mentai it had a rich, savory flavor that stood out the most. The bolognese is apparently one of their top-rated dishes, but it had a unique twist that didn't quite hit for me. I'd personally prefer a more traditional version from an authentic Italian spot. One downside for me personally, I ended up with a pretty bad stomach ache afterwards likely because I'm lactose intolerant and many of the dishes are dairy-heavy, so that's something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to that. Overall, big portions and bold flavors, but service and dietary considerations might make or break the experience depending on what you're looking for.
