DineLA brought this location to my attention and I'm happy with the find! The food is unique and fresh, with the bone broth cooked 36 hours over the stove. The DineLA menu is quite bountiful with a nice selection of Ox Tail dumplings, papaya salad and ox tail tips, with a main course soup on this cold evening, consisting of ox tail, ginger chicken or vegan. The broth makes the soup, and is poured from a server onto your noodles. A semi raw/poached egg is $2 added, and is a a nice touch, but did not add too much to the already rich flavor. Amazing food and service! Started off the night with drinks, and I got the passionfruit mojito while my friend got the calamansi margarita. Yummm! And then we got shared small plates: mapo tofu fries, bone marrow, and their famous chicken wings. I especially love the fries, so much flavor going on. The chicken wings have great flavor too and the crispiness is on point. I got the Singaporean chili lobster, which has noodles on the bottom, and an abundance of lobster meat. Also the sauce is not that spicy since it's got tomato too, so it has a nice balance of sweet and spicy. My friend said her bone kettle signature soup was great, and I'd like to get that next time. The service was absolutely great. We always had someone refilling out water and checking on us. I appreciated that! We ordered the fried cauliflower and wings to start. Both were spectacular and would order again. The wings were fried with rice flour because it was so crispy but not heavy. The tangy soy sauce it came with was addicting - I wish there was more of it! The fried cauliflower came with pork floss and this creamy coconut sauce. Such an umami flavor bomb! I've never had those flavor combinations before. It was so good. We shared the carbonara and brisket noodle soup. The carbonara was amazing - so creamy and great umami flavor. The bone broth for the ramen was mind-blowingly good. The servers actually pour the bone broth for you, which was a nice detail so the broth stays hot! The noodles had the perfect chewy texture, cooked perfectly. The meat was okay, I wish there were more veggies. There were just a couple of slices of carrots which was fine. They even have a place setting for kids, not the regular plates but the ones we use at home so plates and cups don't break! On a cold LA night, my husband and I decided to venture to Pasadena for some noodle soup to warm our tummies. We settled for Bone Kettle because my friend had told me great things! We both got the noodle soup and it's literally pho broth and ramen noodles. I like that the broth is very rich, but that's expected from 36 hrs of cooking. Overall the meal was good, but it did not blow my mind. I also didn't like that the waiter kept insisting we order appetizers even after we had politely declined because we were not super hungry and did not want to take things home. After his persistence, we ended up adding the egg on his "high recommendation" as an add-on to the noodle soup. We expected some amazing marinated egg, but it was just a sou-vide egg that I eat regularly. I was very disappointed on this recommendation because it did not enhance my experience. It actually made me very annoyed because we could've done without the egg. I also noticed that they try to upsell other couples around us. I feel like they should respect our choices. First off the food is WAY TO EXPENSIVE! How did this cost over $100 tell me that. Next, everything is over salted. I was blown away that cultural food was made to be aesthetic than to actually taste good. The waffle was SO DRY. I finished my water at least 5 times when I was there, I began feeling bad for the waiter who had to refill my water constantly. Waiters are very nice tho. Then my egg had an eggshell in it which was fine, I wouldn't have preferred it but it's not the end of the world. Came here twice for Dine LA. And I have to say it's pretty good for something that seems so simple. Decent price for Dine LA! For appetizers my friend and I got the tofu salad and the chicken wings. Both very satisfying. The first time I came here they had papaya salad that was my favorite but they didn't have it this time around. The main course was top sirloin noodle and broth. The broth reminded me of a home dish, pho. Very flavorful and the noodles had the right texture. They give you a side of condiments to add in as well. The servers were attentive and nice. Parking can be a little bit of a hassle sometimes in Pasadena but you can park in the structures first 90 minute is free. I think everyone should give this place a try. Thought the nasi goreng ($14) was okay, don't pay the extra $16 for wagyu. It's priced more than the dish itself. See photo of how small and the quality of the steak. There is this 1 particular waitress who's been rejecting us service for 2x already! The first time she said they're busy so they are not accepting take out orders, which i find very funny. Its not like they're rejecting people who dine in -- she just refused to accept our take away orders. I'm pregnant so my husband is not comfortable eating out. So they accept more people as we walk away, but won't take our take out orders -- don't see the logic in that. The second time we visited, was during late lunch, the restaurant is not even closed, we are seeing guests still eating in their patio area, but she told us they're going to close soon so they're not accepting us to dine in. I've heard about Bone Kettle since last year but didn't have chance to try it until I saw it re-appear in DineLA restaurant week. This year they raised their price from $29 to $39 with 1 more course so I think I should try it this year in case it becomes $49 next year! There's a public parking structure on Raymond & Walnut offer 1.5 hour parking for free. I made the reservation a week ago so we were seated right away. 1st course Steak Carpaccio: it was beautifully displayed on the plate and it wasn't a dish on their regular menu but it's pretty delicious! I like it! 2nd course Gado Gado: sadly not as delicious as I thought. It's one of their famous dish on the menu that's why I feel it should be better. All ingredients were fine but tofu tempeh salad inside this dish was weird in its texture and flavorless. 2nd course Kroket: not bad at taste... A little bit sour but overall it's fine, not too impressive. 3rd course Braised Oxtails w/ Bone Broth & Noodles: their most famous dish on the menu. The bone broth was excellent when you taste it. Only 3 pieces of oxtails but I am okay with it. 3rd course Rendang Carbonara: It's really a Asian style noodles with Asian flavors. Heavier on the taste but still good. 4th course Pandan Creme Brule & Black Sesame Panna Cotta: we like Black Sesame Panna Cotta over Pandan Creme Brule. Sesame flavor is very rich and not too sweet. This place is sooo worth the hype!! After trying it out this past weekend, I can see why it has over 1,000 reviews, majority of which is positive. We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and they have a nice little set up for outdoor dining on the streets. They're also now doing dining inside as well! Since they are fairly busy, you can make reservations on Yelp to secure a table. Exactly at our scheduled reservation, we were greeted by the hostess and she took our temperatures before we can enter their restaurant. Everything was sanitized and cleaned fairly well. The ambiance of the restaurant itself was awesome! We ordered the Mapo Tofu Fries as appetizers, and I ordered the Nasi Goreng. I was surprised they had Indonesian food and was so excited to try it because I haven't had it since my trip to Bali. The service here is amazing and they go above and beyond to make sure your visit is worthwhile. Kudos to our server for the night Erika, as she made sure we had everything we needed. The Mapo Tofu fries were sooo delicious!! It really set the tone on how delicious the next dishes would be. The sauce that was part of the dish was rather exceptional. I couldn't get enough of it and it's a must try! The Nasi Goreng dish was equally great. Fried rice is nothing new to me, but this specific fried rice definitely stood out from the rest of the fried rice I've ever tasted. It's full of flavor and had such a huge serving. The garlic steak I picked to go alongside the dish was such a good touch to the dish, but you can also pick crabs, pork belly or chicken to go along with it. It was also nice of them to prepare a complimentary dessert (Pandan creme brûlée) for my friend who's birthday we were celebrating. I have to try their other things outside of that menu, but after vetting the entire dineLA list, Bone Kettle seemed to be a solid choice and I was pleasantly surprised. Their oxtail soup and other oxtail stuff is one of the things they're known for- very filling and very flavorful. The desserts were alright, but I think what they lacked in terms of flavor in what we had, they made up for with their appetizers and the main courses. Decided to try bone kettle after my girlfriend suggested it from the dine la restaurant options. Right away we knew that their ox tail was going to be the dish to try so we played it safe and ordered the dishes that included it. We started of with oxtail dumplings and an order of the fried oxtail tips. They both were delicious. The oxtails tips had a perfect texture and wasn't over fried. The dumplings had a hint of lime and was served with a little bit of broth in it. Finally we got to the entree which was the oxtail broth. I've had oxtail soup from several places and this one was definitely one of the best ones. Only complaint I have was that I wish it came with more meat on the bone. I found this place super underwhelming. I planned to meet up in Pasadena with some friends for dinner and we picked Bone Kettle because it's been getting a lot of buzz. The interior is small but modern, clean, and nice. I ordered the broth because that's what they are known for. Service was a little slow and they pushed the upswell (like adding eggs to broths for +$2 and pushing alcoholic drinks). I got a beef broth rather than oxtail which they're known for because it was a great deal less expensive. The broth was yummy and the meat was tender, but I didn't find it anything special. My friend got the oxtail and felt similarly underwhelmed, though it does come with some extras the other broths don't come with. My other friend got a rice dish and an alcoholic drink which she wasn't a huge fan of either. Overall, I found this place to have good food but nothing special. And overpriced for what you receive. I would give 3.5 stars instead of 3 if I could because the food was quite good, I was just underwhelmed with the experience when there are so many other great food options in this area. read more

Picked this place last minute for date night with my boyfriend and we were both so amazed by how nice it looked inside! It was super convenient that we could reserve a table on yelp, and when we realized we couldn't make it in time for our original reservation, it was easy to change it to a later time! There was valet right in front of the restaurant for $10 with validation $12 without, and it's available Sun-Thurs 11-10 and Fri & Sat 11-11! When we checked in, we were seated immediately, and our server was super helpful recommending drinks and food! Since it was our first time, this was super helpful. She also let us know happy hour, which is from 5-7 was about to end. Craft beers were $5 and oysters were $1 during happy hour! I really wanted to try the Matcha IPA, but I didn't feel like drinking today. Next time though! For drinks we ordered the Lychee Dragonfruit Lemonade and Young Coconut Juice. They were both really light and refreshing. With any of the non-alcoholic drinks, you can add soju for just an additional $3. I think any of those drinks would've tasted really good with the soju. For food, we ordered the Singaporean Chili Lobster and Bone Kettle Broth with Oxtail. Both dishes were so delicious and the portions were sooo big we shared everything and left the place feeling sooo full and satisfied. Omg! The oxtail hash is so good, you can ask them to hold the bacon if need be. The flavor is so unique, it has a Asian flavor with the hint of soul-food. I know that's different but that's what makes it so excellent. It's light and refreshing. The pear lemonade is so good, sweet but not overly sweet, and it hides the tartness of lemons. Nestled in the Kinney-Kendall building along restaurant row in Old Town Pasadena - Bone Kettle serves fine South-East Asian. The hosts and servers are unassuming, yet the atmosphere - woods, candles and dark accents - belies much more under the surface. We started off by what we felt was leading with the best dishes for the night, unknowingly - with an order of Bone Marrow then Clams and [Savory Chinese] Donuts. The marrow is what you would expect - delicious and fulfilling - scallion confit, grilled baguettes and a citrus dressing. Clams and Donuts is the bright star for me and cast a happy shadow over the rest of the night. The buttery black pepper sauce was reminiscent of very deep Asian broths - it took me some time to place it, and I'm not exactly sure if I did. There was black peppercorn, rice vinegar (?), a bone stock underlying it all. It hit all the right notes. Combined with the clams and the savory Chinese-style donuts - it was a lethal combination. I tipped the bowl - to the delight of the server. [I refused the settlings escape to a bus tub - that'd be heresy.] We also ordered a papaya salad early in the night, it heaped off the plate - we picked at it to cut the overt umami flavors. From there we tried the Bone Broth with Wagyu Meatballs - as billed, another star. The broth is cooked as a traditional soup, for 36 hours, where it reduces and the flavors strengthen - it is a real broth, with each spoonful full of flavor. It may have something to do with the failed reservation thru Yelp. i had confirmed via text our reservation via Yelp, but when we arrived at the restaurant at the appointed time, the hostess could not find our reservation. So, note to self, call restaurant directly. The sake cocktails are delicious. The oxtail dumplings were great the first visit but a little soggy and vinegarly the second time. The clams with fried Chinese doughnut was a good idea but a little too salty and spicy. On the other hand, the Fried chicken lacked a little spice.
