Jsut not a fan, my wife and I have been a few times and the food has been inconsistent. I really have ttied to like it, as it is close to home, and always packed, but it just isn't happening. Probably just a personal thing. read more

Overall, not too impressed. The service seemed a little frazzled. A couple servers approached our table before anyone took any orders. The food was average. French fries were fresh but totally soggy and under seasoned. I ordered the hummus wrap and asked if it could be made without peppers (as per I can't eat anything spicy because of health issues). Sure enough, it came out with spicey banana peppers. I sent it back and when it returned to the table again, it was the same filling just re wrapped in a new wrap with the papers picked out. Normally this wouldn't bother me but the inside was still soaked with banana pepper juice and still to spicy to eat! read more

Food is very good here and lots of good menu options. Hate to complain about so many things but they need work. My fam has been here a dozen times but probably time to make a switch. Drinks were not very good, had to send a couple back..weak and inconsistent. Overall the place is too expensive, they upcharge everything. Burgers are build your own and easily $25 or more after a few toppings which is more than a better burger in Boston. Reservations and getting seated was a hassle, they seemed overwhelmed. The new decor is cheesy as is the 'b.' sign. They should have hired a designer. read more

First time visitor and I couldn't have been more impressed. The food was outstanding my burger was handmade and delicious. The onion ring and Chipotle mayo really put this over the top. Will be back there's so much more to try. read more

We were celebrating a birthday . The food was very good we had 2 apps cauliflower parm and cheese nachos. They both were great just a little too much cheese sauce on the nachos but we ate it all. The clean machine kale salad was good way to much kale, couldn't find the quinoa. Had pizza bone broth ramen burger ..... it was very good. Service was average but i think our party was a handful. Yes i will go back!! read more

Ate lunch at the new location on Wednesday 10/16. The short version is that the food is still tasty and unique, the prices are absurdly high, the service fine, and the decor totally lacking, bordering on morose. Read on for a longer version. My teenage son and I had an order of wings (good, like any wings anywhere), a very loaded cheeseburger with fries (tasty and topped with different stuff like bacon, onion ring, pulled pork), a bacon, lettuce, and watermelon sandwich with chips (unique combo, son liked it), and one small bottle of seltzer. The bill before tip was $64, with tip $75. No alcohol, no dessert; one average size shared appetizer and two sandwiches at lunch for $75. While the food would have been a little less interesting / unique, we could have (and often do) had the same amount of food for about $40 nearby at Thirsty Beaver, Parente's, Laura's Bar and Grill, Rocco's Pub and Grub, and several other casual dining restaurants in the area. I'm not cheap by any means but that pricing is just stupid. One last thing that irked me is the up-charges. I paid $19 for a burger and wanted fries instead of the homemade potato chips. $3 up-charge. My son wanted ranch and I wanted Blue Cheese dressing for the $17 order of wings. $1 up charge for an ounce of ranch dressing. Enough said. I guess it's for the "expense account" work crowd (Fidelity Investments is around the corner) and the "bank of Mom and Dad" student crowd (Bryant University is around the corner). Given the upscale pricing, it was odd that ketchup and mayonnaise were served in large squirt bottles like you get at Denny's. I'm pretty sure those used to come in ramekins. I guess I don't really care, but it felt at odds with their obvious focus on trying to be high end. We ate in what they might call the "dungeon room", to the left when facing the hostess stand. The room has gray tile floors and gray walls without a single wall hanging or decoration of any kind. The acoustics were cafeteria-like with all the hard surfaces. I guess the black flatware and black-speckled bread plates are clever (it's "Blackie's" after all) but when added to the floors and walls, it was all a bit melancholy. The service was good - attentive, friendly, and quick. We wanted to check out the new incarnation of Blackie's and now we've done so. We won't be back. read more

I was browsing Yelp and saw that Blackies was listed. I have been there about a dozen times over the years, never left a review. By far the best burgers, menu changes often enough, I read that one of the chefs was up for an award or something awhile back. Highly reccomend. read more

Love their menu! Amazing Nachos. Very busy so be prepared to wait. You can download the app for wait times but it isn't that reliable.

My wife and I were dying to go here after seeing the mouth-watering pics on instagram. The calamari and pizza were very good, but our meals... not so much and the drinks weren't good at all. The service even worse... It was deeply disappointing because we hyped this place up to our friends who came along. We waited over a hour for our food. My wife's side of fries came out 20 minutes before her sandwich. When the food finally arrived it totally wasn't worth the wait. Perhaps it was because the bad taste we already had in our mouths. No apologies from our server. Bottom line just a major let down read more

Came in on a Tuesday late afternoon, surprisingly it wasn't super busy. Very rare this place is always popping off! Had a few Strawberry Margaritas that were so delicious, but man they knocked me on my butt! Had to have the boyfriend drive home ;). I had the Blackies Burger which was huge and super juicy and fantastic. My boyfriend had the Ruben quesadilla which was so tasty and 100% on point with 1000 island dressing for dipping. I am never unsatisfied when I leave this place! read more

Visited the new location for the first time last night. We sat at the bar. The new ambiance is beautiful! The bar area was cozy and welcoming. The wait staff was attentive and well versed on the menu. We ordered their Bourbon specialty drink; absolutely delicious and perfectly poured! Then, we ordered salads; the chopped kale and Caesar- both half orders. The chopped kale was delicious; the Caesar had no greens whatsoever...it contained only the white part of the romaine stock...rendered the salad tasteless. We also ordered salmon to pair with the chopped kale salad...it was over cooked. Boneless chicken tenders were ordered to pair with the Caesar salad. Also over cooked and dry. If I were to rate this review on the food only, I would give it only (1) star; I'm giving three because the ambiance, wait staff and cocktails were wonderful! We will return again, and, hopefully, be able to change this review. read more

Love this place! Everything is delicious, true upscale pub food. Nachos, calamari, burgers and Ruben all delicious! The best thing I have had yet was the brisket burger. Truly the most tender brisket ever piled up on a burger, with delicious melted cheese, and sweet sautéed onion all loaded onto a crispy, hot buttered onion ciabatta roll. One and only complaint is that this place is kinda small, so it easily gets crowded, but what do our expect when the food is this good? read more

Went on Sunday (by request) for my wife's birthday dinner. This is our second time here. We loved the burgers so much that we had to go back. We perused the menu and decided to get something off the "Big Bites" section. She ordered the Beer Brined Pork. It was spectacular! Not too often I'm jealous of another meal. It was perfection on a plate. She had a glass of Cabernet with her meal. I ordered the Short Rib Pappardelle. The slow cooked meat was fall apart tender with the al dente pasta. Small dollop goat cheese was a perfect accompaniment. I had a Guinness to wash that beautiful meal down. With that said, I wish Blackies had a better craft beer selection. I will frequent a restaurant if they have good craft beer. Not just your run of the mill Sam Adams Lager & Harpoon IPA you find anywhere. Still good beers that have stood the test of time. A stellar craft beer selection would elevate Blackies into another stratosphere. read more

Blackies has a very large parking lot, a beautiful building which is decorated well. There were pretty flowers around the entrance & patio area (which appears to allow outside dining when weather permits!) the bar was very nice with a few TVs. I only had a few cocktails & chicken wings and they were pretty good. The bartenders seemed very experienced & attentive. They did not carry my husbands beer of choice or the vodka I was hoping to drink but we did find alternatives :) read more

Great burger and great service. The price was a bit high though. Over $18 for a burger fries and a coke.

I have been going to Blackies for years starting at their old location. I've always loved the food and atmosphere, and now their new home is outstanding, welcoming, cool and fun! I always recommend Blackies to al of my friends, clients, and really anyone I meet! The owners, Angie and Jeanine, are so passionate about their work, and I always looks forward to coming in any night of the week! Thank you for all of your hard work! Cheers! read more

I took my friend here yesterday because I had been to Blackie's a while back and really enjoyed the food. Told him that the food was really good and he wanted to try it out. We were seated right away even though it was busy. The waitress greeted us quickly but took a while to return with our drinks. After waiting a while for our drinks, we waited quite a while for the order to be taken. I'm a pretty patient person when it comes to good food but this was way too long for a burger order and a fish and chips order. When it finally arrived, my buddy was missing his fries from the fish and chips. He had ordered double coleslaw and for some reason the waitress explained this as a reason for forgetting his fry order. She said she would get them out ASAP. We ate our meal never to see the fries. I mentioned to the waitress about the fries and she apologized. Did not make my buddy too happy. I thought that she would have taken some cost off his fish and chips order since the fish came with no chips! No, he was charged 17.00 for a fish and chips which I thought was a little pricey for fish and chip lunch. My burger was 15.00 dollars which is also kind of pricey for a burger and fries. They do make good burgers but that's a little much for even a good burger. I have had better burgers for much less. Not sure if I will be back. Too bad because the food is good but the service and prices are much to be desired. read more

Amazing! Stopped by on lunch as I had always driven by but I keep hearing buzz about them. Dat at he bar and was promptly helped by Scott. The menu was big but not overwhelming. I narrowed my search down to three items and Scott recommended I go with the Brisket Sandwich. What an excellent suggestion. Flavorful, great fries, Just the right amount of their tasty home made sauce and it was surprisingly near as it was cut in half and firmly wrapped in paper. This small detail made a huge difference. Everyone was friendly, great vibe, great food. I'll be returning! read more

Love Blackie's Brunch and Dinner! They have the best Bloody Mary's and my favorite dinner dish is the Tuscan Turkey Burger. The menu does change continuously, so you never get sick of the place! Drinks are a tad bit expensive but delicious. read more

You know what the best thing about my work is?? It is about a mile away from Blackie's. My co-workers and I take some long lunches every few weeks, as well as celebrating all of our birthdays here. And then there are the countless take out orders with my husband and son, and oh yeah, the Saturday lunches with my mom...hardly a week goes by without a visit to Blackie's, and i have never been disappointed with a meal....well, only when they changed the menu and removed the mac and cheese burger, which was my all time favorite. But, I quickly replaced it with the Breakfast burger, and the Turkey burger, and the "Dog er", and sometimes the Salmon BLT, and occasionally the Cheesesteak, and when I feel I probably shouldn't be such an unbelievable glutton, I go "healthy" for a day and order the hummus wrap. So, now that you know just some of the fantastic things you can order, let me tell you that Angie, the chef, is absolutely amazing and the way she builds and layers flavors is incredible. Some of the combinations seems a bit out of the ordinary upon reading the menu, but the final dish is always eclectic and delightful. This is RI, so the portions are huge (of course) and I'm always disappointed that I never leave room for dessert. One day I will learn to pace myself and not eat until my stomach is bursting, but it seems rather unlikely, as everything is way too good to stop eating before my plate is empty. read more

I had to write a new review....I loved this place when it was at its old location;however after having dinner here when it first reopened...I was very disappointed...see old review...I decided to give it another try...It was well worth it...so glad I did it...our food ,all three of our meals, were delicious!!! I got a side of the Brussels Sprouts...Heaven!!!! The one thing I do have to say was...I'm still not thrilled with the bar....they don't carry a Riesling ,which is my drink of choice...I think bar prices are pricey and the Sangria was very watered down....but overall ...I will definitely be more willing to return ...because of Great Food , Friendly and knowledgeable service!!!!!Thank you for changing my mind...See You Soon read more

The food was good, but they nickeled and dimed us on every little thing. I asked for bread and butter, which they gladly brought out....come to find out it's a $2 upcharge. Really?!? Never in all of my years dining out have I ever been charged for bread and butter (and, of course, no mention of said charge when we asked for it). Then we ordered an appetizer - soft pretzels, which were served with a jalapeno dipping sauce. I asked the waitress if we could get some plain cheese sauce, like they use for their mac & cheese, for my 5 year old daughter because the other sauce was too spicy. Again, "no problem", and we were served a tiny bowl of cheese, which my daughter never even used. Turns out it's $1.50 for that tiny bowl of cheese sauce that they use in a dozen other dishes. I was also charged extra for a side of dressing, which happens, but once again - we were never informed of any upcharge so we weren't given the choice. I paid the bill and gave a good tip, but on the way out I asked to speak to a manager. I wanted to voice my displeasure. When I did so, I was basically brushed off, being told, "Well, our food is high quality" and "That's just the way we do things here." Wow. And when I closed our little conversation with the fact that we'd probably never return to their establishment over this, she basically shrugged her shoulders. Good to see they value their customers so much. My husband and I eat out on average about 4 times a week, and I can say with certainty that we will not be returning to Blackie's Tavern again. I'll also be sure to spread the word to all of my friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances. It's really a shame, too. All it would have taken was a simple validation of our negative experience and maybe a nice gesture to win back a paying customer. I realize the charges were minor, but it's really the principle and for me, it's the poor way we were treated when voicing our concerns that will ultimately lead us to bring our business elsewhere. read more

I've eaten here several times and I'm surprised, frankly, at all of the glowing reviews. Quite simply, Blackie's prices are inflated for the food that they serve. The food usually looks really good, but tastes average. This last time I had a kale salad (called the "Clean Machine") and it was $15.00. That 15 dollars gets you a plate of shredded kale in a circular shape held together by the thinnest shred of cucumber. The salad was nearly all kale (with a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds and some strawberries sliced on the side of the kale tower) and had a one note flavor. Another person at the table had fish tacos which cost $17.00. You get two tacos with a side of potato chips. The fish looked and tasted cheap. Even their sweet potato fries were just average. The service is also average, which has been constant across all my visits. The wait staff is comprised nearly of all female college students and it's totally no frills. Blackie's is an average restaurant with good interior decorating and plates that look very pretty, but are just okay (I suspect some of the five star reviews are the product of eyes that are lying to the stomach). If the prices matched the experience then there would be less to complain about. UPDATE: I edited my review to reflect the fact that the owners respond to all reviews. I also would like to address Jeanine's response. The "Clean Machine" salad, quite simply, has a one-dimensional flavor; it is "bursting" with kale, not flavor. All of the ingredients listed by the owner (which sound delicious in the flowery tone in which they were written) were chopped so finely that it caused the salad to taste only like kale and lemon vinaigrette. If the salad cost 10 or 9 dollars (and this was the major point of my review) then I would never have written a Yelp review to begin with. But the salad costs an inflated $15 and all of the cost seems to be in presentation and not in flavor. Keep in mind that the owner eats the kale salad for free. I can't think of any place (outside of tourist traps and major U.S. cities) where fish tacos (with a side of potato chips) costs $17 dollars. Even by "hand-crafted" metrics, this price is bloated and does not correspond to the dish served. I never questioned the competencies of the servers, but I never left Blackie's thinking "That was great service." They're functional, they get the job done, and they're hard-working, I'm sure. If some of the prices were not so inflated, I would never have written a review, but the sticker shock when you get the bill makes you ask yourself if the food really is worth that much. read more

Been there 4X and each time it kicked butt!!! The food is insanely good from apps to dinner, so many choices & they are all good. I have been with groups of people so the sample size for this review is quite large. Everyone loved it each time we went. The staff are all very friendly. Really cool chillaxing lounge upstairs. Loved the outside option as well. If there is one drawback it is that it gets packed. read more

This is a great place to head to if you're on your diet cheat day. Like most taverns there are plenty of TVs , and they're angled to be viewed from just about anywhere you're seated. Unlike most taverns, the food is here is made with high quality ingredients - and it shows in the taste, and the presentation. Also unlike most taverns, this place is quite clean - attracting many moms and families. They're usually busy, so I recommend downloading their app where they post their wait time - you can also utilize the app for points, but I haven't yet taken advantage of collecting points myself. read more

We decided to give this place a try after reading all of the great reviews but after our two visits we've come to the conclusion that quite a few of the 4 and 5 star reviews must be fake. We have eaten here twice in the past few months and both times we left unimpressed. The first time the service was very slow and the place wasn't even crowded (the couple next to us were so mad about the service and food they left midmeal). We tried the pretzels with cheese for an appetizer, it was small and boring, a burger and the Shepherd's Pie, the burger was just alright nothing special but the Shepard's Pie was tasty. The second time we visited the service was much better. This time we tried the Asian calamari, carbonara macaroni and cheese and the short rib ravioli. The Asian calamari just tasted like a cheap General Cho's chicken sauce poured over fried calamari. The chicken in the mac & cheese was burnt which made the entire dish inedible, you think the chef would have caught this! The short rib ravioli was just alright, tasted more like pot roast though since there were a lot of cooked carrots mixed in. Not worth the drive! read more

Blackie's has interesting cocktails and creative food. It's poorly lit, but the decor is attractive and the service is friendly.

Went to Blackie's last night and have to say it was nice inside but the prices were high. Had a turkey sandwich and they charged extra for cold slaw. It was a shot glass full and my husband had sweet potato fries that he was charged extra do. Both of our sandwiches came to about 40 bucks! Won't be going back. read more

For all the folks here giving any sort of negative review you really need to go back and give it another shot. There are times were service might be off due to the rush hour empty bellies that are dying to be filled. There is no question to why on a Thursday -Saturday night after 5pm this place is slammed wall to wall. People travel from all over to check out Chef Angie's wild and exotic creations. There really isnt anything on Earth like them. What she brings to the table is something even Chef Ramsey himself would be sent back to England on boat over. I have eaten at many of the so called best of the best restaurants across the country and still have NOT found anything that even comes close to the quality of food, pairing creations, and portions. All fresh farm raised organic ingredients. They offer a wild selection of craft brews as well as a deep creative cocktail selection. Their menu changes often which keeps things very interesting and wanting you to come back for more. Each time you bring your pallet here it's like a whole new level of an experience. Ive yet to be able to try everything on the menu but from what I have had, I can die a happy man. Chef Angie has been blessed with a true gift and shows through her passion to keep her guests coming back for more. This place needs to start entering into creating their own brewery and then they will captialize the market being a household name across New England. If I could give 10 stars I'd give 50. Best place for first dates, third dates, anniversary's, guys or gals nights out, solo dining, and very very kid friendly. read more

Before I go anywhere new I check them out on yelp. I was soo excited to try this place based on the pics on here. There were at least 6 diff things I wanted to try. Then I got there and not one of the things I wanted was on the menu. The waitress said their menu changed and this was their summer menu. I was disappointed but still stayed. I got the fish and chip which the fish was good but the zucchini "fries" we're not fries at all they were skinny strings & some were just batter. Fish was big but over crusted. The fried pickles were delicious but you only get 10 for $9. Overall I was disappointed but might go back in the winter when the good food comes back. Hint: don't look at the pics, read the actual menu. read more

This is an above average eatery in smithfield. I got the blackies burger with onion rings. The burger was good but if I had one complaint it needed more flavor. I have been to Blackie's several times, and have never been disappointed with my meal. The appetizer list is extensive, but don't expect to find the common fried pub fare, everything is kicked up, including the gourmet pizzas. The meatloaf sandwich is better than any burger I've had in the area, and may be my favorite item on the menu. If you're looking for spicy Buffalo, go with the Buffalo Chicken Dip- the wings are a bit mild. There's a great selection of draught beers, and there are always a few seasonals available. The menu also changes seasonally, I only wish they still had the Diner Fries- which sounded like french fries on the menu, but were more like a potato casserole. read more

Have been here a few times and the food was okay, but the last time my boyfriend and I went there he ordered a burger and fries and when we got it there was a gigantic male mosquito in the fries. Unfortunately he was already 1/2 through the burger when we noticed it, we were sitting at the bar and when the bartender came over to us and my boyfriend pointed it out to him all he said was, "Yeah well you know, it's that time of year." To me that isnt really an approprate excuse for serving someone a bug, maybe that's just me. They offered us free dessert which we obviously declined because we were no longer in the mood to eat anything from there. No discount on his meal or anything like that. Also, the time before that we sat out on the patio and the table on the side of us were all smoking cigarettes and cigars. What happened to only being able to smoke 50 ft away from the building? It's not very appetizing to eat a meal when you are a non smoker sitting down wind from a bunch of Marlboro men. There is pretty much no chance that I will be going back there. read more

Holy moly, Batman! I've lived in Smithfield all my life and have seen many restaurants come and go, but this place is a keeper! My boyfriend and I finally decided to try this place out a few weeks ago and I am happy we did.
