Breakfast is not worth it. $11 for a mimiosa is ridiculous. The food was decent but not anything to write home about. For 2 people we spend 46 on breakfast. read more

Great food! We got signature burger and diner burger they are phenomenal. Thick juicy patties and sides of sweet potato fries and onion rings are really good as well! Price is reasonable. read more

What a great find! Don't let the word tavern fool you-- the decor is eclectic and elegant and the food is superb. We shared a salad and a flatbread for lunch and leftovers. Portions are generous and the food is beautifully presented. I'll definitely be back. read more

Everytime I've visited this restaurant I've ordered the pulled pork nachos. They are the best nachos I've ever had. Huge portion, multiple layers of goodness, and the cheese stays soft and gooey the whole time. Do yourself a favor and try them. Fun atmosphere with plenty of seating for the crowd. read more

Without question, this place has the best fish and chips in New England! Every time I go to Blackie's I am impressed with the quality of their food. I don't know the chef, but I would love to shake their hand. read more

The food here is very good but they are continuously changing the menu-once you find something you like-get it while you can before it's gone! The food is very good but the service is a bit slow on the kitchens part-dinner could easily take upwards of two hours so if you have a place to be let them know. Takeout also takes forever on a busy night so do keep that in mind. The outside area is really nice and the drinks are very good and super creative. This isn't a place for a quick bite but you won't be disappointed! read more

Blackie's Bull Dog Tavern is a great place to eat at! The menu focuses on having quality ingredients, but the food ends up being typical fare that you would expect at a pub or comfort food. They also have an extensive menu of items that are Paleo compliant and don't have wheat or gluten, and these dishes are really good. The wings here are excellent and I would recommend. I had a burger, which was very good and very large. They have 1/2 pound patties here. I ended up using a knife and fork to eat it. Overall, service was good, but a bit slow on getting our food to us, perhaps due to them being very busy with a near full establishment. read more

Food and service was great. Very wide variety of on tap beer and cider (my favorite). Was priced on the higher end, but they're always packed and don't have a huge capacity, so it's understandable. read more

Excellent food, very creative and well prepared menu. Service was attentive, but not obtrusive. Price was very reasonable for the quality and the quantity. We had a wonderful meal, and to top it off a free dessert for the table arrived at the end of the meal! We are looking forward to our next visit! read more

I don like American food so much but here is nice. Friendly staffers and fresh food make for nice meal. I like mood in here and feel comfort. read more

My hubby asked me to google the best burger in RI..... this place turns up first so we head out to Blackys expecting something delicious...We start with a bottle of wine and some tortilla chips and salsa ...we proceed to order a burger for the hub and I order the Kale salad, omitting the fruit and onions....I am anticipating the Kale salad with warm quinoa, toasted almonds and avocado, as the menu stated.....the only problem is when it arrives its a dry bowl of kale......the kitchen forgot the quinoa, almonds and avocado....I informed the server she could take it back to the kitchen as I do no not like orders remade....I was OK with passing on the salad....when suddenly the "manager " appears and treats us as though we are a 14 year old couple on our first venture dining out... My husband and I are in our early 50's and dine out frequently and also know when someone is being condescending.....good try though.....I also informed her, as manager, she should make sure sure the filthy AC vent above our head should be cleaned....bottom line....trashy staff.... wonder if the owner knows or cares....... read more

While we were once returning customers, I'm afraid we will never return to this once hopeful hot spot in Smithfield. My family and I have various dietary restrictions, allergies, and lifestyle preferences. We all used to be able to enjoy a wonderful meal together at Blackie's. As their seasonal menu changes, however, it seems the restaurant is less and less able to accommodate our needs. Seemingly simple substitutions (alternating bread choices for sandwiches as an example) are denied, with little excuse or reasoning behind the decisions. All the while, their needlessly sassy menu( see photo for an example) tries to convince you how they will bend over backwards for your specific needs. In fact, it feels very much like upper management of Blackie's seems annoyed at the very idea of changing anything on the menu; even to accommodate a guests dietary needs; even when that means losing potential business (we walked out the last time we went to Blackie's, and hung up on a potential takeout order) Quality of food and customer service have taken a serious hit over the years, and I cannot recommend the patronage of this establishment. read more

Blackie's - American Near Me - Smithfield, Rhode Island

Over rated and over priced. Not my type of place to enjoy good food. If you have special diets or restrictions this is the place to go. There are a lot of better places to spend your money read more

Excellent tavern. We sat outside, very nice. Would have liked cushions on the metal chairs, digs into your backside after awhile. Other than that, chesseburger very good, although no blue cheese available. Liked this place, close to highway. read more

The food at Blackies is so unique and delicious! There are so many different options on the menu for whatever mood you may be in. They have a big choice of appetizers (i.e. Fried pickles, Asian tuna, Buffalo chicken dip...) grilled pizzas and a large selection of burgers and sandwiches. The breakfast burger is my favorite- comes on white toast with bacon, egg, cheese, home fries and brown maple sugar mayo with a side of sweet potato fries- so good! (Tip: If you order sweet potato fries get a side of the brown maple sugar may to dip them in- phenomenal!) They also have a list of entrees from short rib shepards pie to a double cut pork chop served with spinach and gorgonzola sweet potato fries and the Chef has specials every Friday and Saturday. They also have great desserts like a grilled carrot cake ice cream sandwich, fried twinkie, fried snickers or fried oreos with vanilla ice cream! The atmosphere is very nice for after work drinks/appetizers at the bar, a nice date night out and for a group of people getting together for dinner on the dining room side. The food is all fresh and made to order so its not going to be as quick of a dinner like at a chain restaurant or fast food but if you've never been here I would strongly recommend trying it out! You won't be disappointed! read more

I moved to the area in April of last year and my wife and I spend a lot of time looking for "the place to eat". Blackie's food is hands down the best food in the area, the service is always friendly, the food-perfect and the atmosphere can't be beat. They never disappoint and we take everyone we know. read more

Absolutely horrible service. Food is great, but you lose interest by the time it arrives. Don't even think about sitting at the bar, because the service is 10 times worse there. Really sad since there is a real need for a fun place to eat with great service and food. If I have to spend 2 hours for dinner I can go to Federal Hill. read more

The food was amazing! Everything was cooked to perfection. You can tell the chef is passionate about her work because every dish was delicately prepared. The service was also great. The owner came over to check on how our meal was and was so personable. The decor was fun and modern. It's a great place to go hang out and grab a few drinks after a long work week. It's definitely our new hang out for sure! Oh and if you are not completely stuffed after dinner and dessert is in the cards... The carrot cake balls. Yup! They are to die for!! I would recommend Blackies to everyone. Great food, great service all around a nice addition to the area! read more

This place is always great. I never have one bad thing to say about it but our service tonight was awesome probably the best I have ever had there. Jolene was our server and she was great from start to finish. We came in right before the kitchen closed and she made us feel so comfortable. She never rushed us for a second. She is such a genuine person and made our experience so enjoyable. We will request her next time we come in! Thank you so much! read more

Went to Blackies for the first time this evening. I asked for a glass of house wine, as I do at most restaurants. Over the course of dinner I had two 9 oz. glasses of "house" Cabernet. When the check arrived the two 9 ounce glasses of house Cabernet, came to $36. Upon questioning the waitress, she said "oh we don't have a house Cabernet." I believe this is something she should have mentioned when I ordered "house" wine. Will never go back to this location again. What a sleezy way to upsell wine. read more

Always crowded and always a wait, but worth it for the great food and good service. I've never had bad service or disappointing food at Blackie's. read more

The food was absolutely delicious here. My whole table absolutely loved everything we got! Now the service.. we went in a few weeks ago and they weren't too busy. We waited maybe 5 minutes for a table. We sat down and it took our waitress about 10 minutes to just come and ask us for drinks. It took another 10 minutes to bring us our waters. She took our order and everything and that's when the wait began. We had a bunch of people around us sitting down, getting their orders within 15-20 minutes and leaving and new people sitting at their tables. Everyone around us was being served quickly and food coming in and out fast. Tables getting replaced witj new customers etc. I don't know if our waitress forgot to put in our order (there were only three of us) or what but it took ONE HOUR and 20 minutes for our food to finally come out. After an hour of waiting, we politely asked the waitress if our food will be out soon and she looked confused as to why it wasn't out yet and then 20 minutes later it finally came out. We were at that restaurant for almost 2 hours basically Jusy waiting for drinks and food. That part was very disappointing despite the delicious food. But it really turned my friends and I off from coming here again which is a shame :( read more

Blackie's was recommended by a friend who had been there a few times. He's a beer drinker like me, but he also appreciates good food. Him and his girlfriend had been a few times, and he had been trying to get me to go with him. Well, today was the day I finally was able to go. Prior to going to Blackie's we took a brewery tour of a new microbrewery elsewhere in RI. So we arrived at Blackie's around 2:30 PM. That time of day, the place wasn't too busy, so we were able to get seats at the bar no problem. Our bartender, Katy, was immediately welcoming and engaging. She got us our drinks, and gave us menus. As we reviewed the menu, she made several very good food suggestions. Let me stop for a moment. Most bartenders I've dealt with (I say MOST, not ALL) have been more engaged with drinks, not so much food. Katy was totally engaged with the menu. When it came to the restaurant's menu, Katy could talk a dog off a meat wagon. There was no question she was passionate about not only her job as a bartender, but also the restaurant's food. She made several very good suggestions, most of which we partook of. She was 100% correct. Later in the day, she took her break, and sure enough, she was eating the exact same things she was suggesting to us - so right then I knew she was not just trying to make a sale. The beer selection was very good. The food menu is nothing short of amazing. The burger selection is something I've never seen before. My burger selection .. after it had been server, Katy asked how it was, and I answered "it's a religious experience - nothing short of amazing". That's the truth. The ambiance and environment in this place is amazing. The food and drink is incredible. I would recommend this place at any time of day. We were in there for a good 4 hours, and when we left, the bar was 3 deep and all the tables in the dining room were full. I can tell why. Get there early, get some drinks and food. You won't regret it. I don't give out 5-star reviews lightly. This place deserves it. It's a hidden gem. read more

I used to love the food at Blackie's and dined there (until this past year) at least twice a week. In short, it appears that the owners have taken a "hands off" approach and, as a result, the quality of the food had suffered. In the beginning when Angie was at the helm the food was always perfectly seasoned and delicious- no need for salt and pepper shakers on the tables and she usually prepared a special entree on the weekends. Now, the menu is much more condensed and the food is mediocre at best. I am very sorry to witness this decline in one of my (formerly) very favorite restaurants and I'm hoping that the torch will be passed to someone who is willing to put the time in that is required to run a successful restaurant that provides delicious meals to its customers. In the meantime, I have to search for another restaurant in the area where I can go knowing that I will enjoy my meal. read more

I absolutely would not recommend this restaurant. The older Blackie's was better. The new location looks and feels like an upscale cafeteria - a cold, gray and unwelcoming interior. The food we had (sticky chicken street tacos) was not a dish I could recommend - the flavors were too strong, competing with each other instead of complementing each other. The worst aspect of the lunch, adding insult to injury, was the price charged for a glass of wine. We were charged $10 for a barely 6 oz glass of wine (for a bottle that sells for $11 retail). Unfortunately, I left the restaurant not only having not enjoyed my dining experience, but actually feeling offended by the experience. read more

This place is slowly becoming my favorite restaurant . Extensive menu including a separate menu for people on gluten free diets or that are paleo. This place does the nachos the right way . They layer the filling with the chips which means filling on every bite . Not like most places that out the toppings just on top . Staff is great and knowledgable about their menu read more

Great pub food!! Fantastic for an after work drink or a night out with friends. I love the appetizer selection. The homemade chips are fantastic and great accompanied by the buffalo chicken dip. Definitely expect a wait for a table. Just a sign of how great it is. read more

Wow! I ate here three days ago and I am still full! Huge portions of awesomely unique tavern cuisine! The huge real deal Chicago Dog was my Favorite followed by the Chorizo and Tater flat bread and then the Shaved Rig Eye Sangwich with the biggest onion rings I have ever seen. Nice draft selection , service was stellar and good overall vibes and scene. Off the beaten path and definitely worth the ride out to Smithfield I will definitely be back for a another Chicago Dog Soon The calorie intake is well worth it! read more

If you are looking for the old Blackies...dont come here. The new place is nice but its a completely different restaurant. The ambiance is not even close to being the same. There was something so wonderful about the old place..... but now its some gastro pub hipster place. The food was good but the atmosphere was confusing... the main dining room was very odd with nothing on the walls... felt sterile like a oversized doctors waiting room. Also... they have onion rings as an appetizer.. they give you 3... its $15 bucks... very odd. read more

I have heard so much about this place that I just had to try it!!!! If you go for apps and drinks, definitely try the nachos!! If you go for dinner, think twice about the nachos, it's a big platter, they might leave you too stuffed to eat your dinner!! The nachos are amazing tho!! Scallop fan?? Definitely try the caramelized scallops here. They are so good!! If you like risotto, you gotta try it!! I even ordered a side to take home!! We will definitely be back!! I wish this new restaurant great success and I hope they remain in the area for a very long time!! read more

Food was good. Menu is very creative which gives interesting twist on typical bar food. The service however is horrible. The staff is super slow and not attentive. I went there on Tuesday evening and there were many empty tables, which made it rather disappointing. read more

Stopped for dinner and found the restaurant packed. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. Once seated we found the table rather squeezed in. The restaurant is so noisy that it is virtually impossible to have conversation. Our service person was ok but slow due to the crowd. We ordered drinks which were fine but we had to ask for bread. My wife had a salmon dish which she enjoyed. I had clams with cappelini. The dishes were served hot. They were flavorful. My cappelini seemed to be broken into small pieces rather than long strands which is what I prefer. It also tasted like it was warmed up and overcooked. The bread which we had to ask for was warm and fresh with an interesting butter. If and when we go back it will probably be for lunch and only if we can sit outside. The place is too small to have so many people packed in, and with live music. Not what I would call relaxing. read more

First time here last night. Food was excellent and presented in unique ways. Prices are a little on the higher side but u get one meal that can feed two people. Pulled pork was excellent as was the flatbread pizza. The fried pickle appetizer is a must, beer selection is adequate. Would like to see more craft beers on draft get there early or call ahead. Pomace was jammin. Will definitely return read more

Amazing food with great service. Love that they do brunch on Sundays! The homefries & the sticky bun are so good.. the sticky bun is enough to serve 4 people as an appetizer, at breakfast! I love it!! Plus, the bartenders always make the best tasting drinks! read more

My friends and I went out here for a birthday celebration! We showed up a little early for our reservation but were seated immediately which was a pleasant surprise. We were just sharing some appetizers so we did not try any of the main menu items. I got the buffalo chicken dip which was delicious, I got half house made potato chips and half tortilla chips as well which were also great! My one friend got the Japanese Sweet Potato Hummus; it was alright. The plate was a bit bare for the size and price ($17). The veggies were fresh and delicious and was even served with a mound of avocado! However, the hummus had a gummy texture which was a little off putting, but the flavor was nice. My other friend got the Vegan Nachos, let me tell you, the bowl was overflowing with food! It was so nice to see because from the reviews we read, people had said the portions were small. However, it was missing some fresh veggies. The nachos were packed with smoked jackfruit and vegan queso but did not have pico de Gallo which definitely could have added a lot to the dish. Overall, we were pretty happy with the food. The service did lack quite a bit, however. Although we were seated immediately, our waitress took a while to greet us; however, the restaurant was quite busy so it's not really her fault. Like I said it was pretty busy, so I was not surprised that our waitress did not check on us much but disappointed that she was not more attentive. Recommend this place, just be aware that some dishes are hit or miss. read more
