Blackie's has quickly become my favorite restaurant. I have a long history of GI issues and was put on a strict gluten and dairy free diet per doctors orders which can be soul crushing... especially when you love going out to eat. When I went to Blackie's for the first time and saw that they had an entire section of their menu dedicated to people like me I was stoked. I love that I get to go to a place with friends and family and know we will all be satisfied and I don't have to ask uncomfortable questions about whether or not I can eat a menu item. I've had a few dishes now and am blown away every time... everything is so unique and delicious you can tell the chef is always thinking about what's next. I'm very excited to see this place succeed and can't wait for the new location! With hopefully more parking love to you guys! read more

The ultimate burger joint and quite possibly the best burger I have ever had. Love that they also have a gluten free & paleo menu. Wish this place was closer because I would definitely be a regular. Every item on the menu sounds amazing and the service was excellent. read more

Went for lunch. Three fountain drinks, a kid's entree, a burger, and a sandwich.... drum roll... $70 with tip! Never in my life have I had such buyer's remorse! I really wish that I had read these reviews prior to going. A common trend in them is the extremely high prices. Lesson learned. We will not be back. read more

Absolutely delicious lunch. Best fish and chips I've ever had and yummy buffalo chicken dip. Would definitely visit again! read more

One of my favorite places to eat. There's a reason there can be a very long wait here. I've tried most of the menu ( it does change seasonally) and I've only ever had one bad meal (a sandwich I was not fond of). They make one of the best stuffies I have ever had! Last fall/winter they had root fries which I still dream about. We rarely get dessert but last time we did and OMG. It was a carrot cake concoction, and it was the most amazing dessert I have had the pleasure of eating. The calamari with avocado and corn is also on the best. They are always coming up with amazing ideas for meals. Everything is always fresh and delicious. Always a good selection of craft and local beers. Oh and they do brunch on the weekends. Also amazing! Last thing - the staff are always so excellent. We come often and have made a few friends! read more

First impressions on the new location were not great. My girlfriend and I were frequent customers of Blackie's original location and honestly never had a bad meal. The new location on the other hand I was not so much impressed with. Between the bar service and the quality of food I will hesitate bringing my friends from town there. The building which was a Smithfield staple crickets is absolutely beautiful and I love what they have done with the place. We got lucky this afternoon with a chance to grab two seats at the bar and try it out. The menu is very similar with some additions that were quite interesting. I had the dirty gurdy that I thought was delicious, seeing as I love me a good spicy chicken sandwich. I opted for the upgrade with the sweet potato fries which were barely luke warm and not in the slightest bit crispy. My girlfriend went out on a limb and decided on the "my very own goldfish stick". It was an absolute horror show of a sandwich. The reactions of our fellow bar patrons should have been a red flag, when the bartender turned the corner with it. I insisted she not to judge the book by its cover though. She managed to fight her way through the first half or smothered Cheetos type of fish sticks that were in no way "silky velvetta cheese". Her fries on the other hand were perfectly salted crispy sweet potato fries that I craved so much from the original Blackie's location. When my girlfriend brought her concerns to the bartender she was quick to turn around and go about her business with no regard to her complaints. Moments after we observed the bartender walk into the kitchen and walk out with a former bartender now manager, we got a new bill placed in front of us with the sandwich removed without one word spoken. Customer service was completely absent on the manager and bartenders part. I would have happily paid for the sandwich but was happy considering the complete disconnect between the customer, bar staff and management. I think I'll give and another try but won't go with my hopes high that things will be better when we return. read more

Was in the area for a hockey tournament and needed to find a lunch venue for a large group. Wanted fresh food with lots of variety. They make everything fresh to order! Great options from salads, soups, burgers, fish, etc. Also have a gluten free menu!! Kids & adults were very happy! Our server was excellent and patient, considering we had so many kids. Would love to go back!!! read more

Very disappointed they added $3. for french fries with a sandwich and $1. for extra salad dressing and $1. extra for a little of spinach in the sandwich... What a rip-off read more

The gluten free/paleo menu is the exact same size as their regular menu, which my food sensitivity-laden family REALLY appreciates! I love their homemade paleo wraps, burgers, paleo power plates, and the new additions of almond and cashew milk cheese are amazing. I never worry about getting served something that won't agree with me here. All of their ingredients are fresh and locally sourced when possible, and the menu changes with the seasons to keep things new all the time. Portions are HUGE and dishes have unique twists you won't find anywhere else. I've never been here with anyone who didn't love what they ordered off of the GF or the regular menu. Most of the wait staff is really friendly and on top of things (Steph is an awesome waitress!). But I can only give 4 stars for a couple reasons: 1. There's usually an hour wait or more for dinner during peak hours, whether you have 2 people or 5, and their app for call-ahead/wait estimates is almost never accurate. Last time I went for dinner their app said there was no wait and when I got there the hostess said it would be at least an hour for a party of 4. Many other people were arriving with the same issue, and some had even used the app to reserve their place in line and were still told the wait was an hour plus). 2. There are still some kinks to work out with their Sunday brunch menu. Twice now I've ordered pumpkin paleo pancakes and they came out wrong. I had to wait a half hour while they were remade and my brunch buddies ate their food. Management handled it wonderfully the first time (and the menu was pretty new so I gave them the benefit of the doubt), and not so much the next time. Guess I'll stick to eggs for brunch if I go again. Lunch and dinner is where they really shine, IMO. 3. I wish more of their signature cocktails were gluten free. For example, they offer various types of Moscow mules (usually GF) but they're made with Crabbie's ginger beer (NOT gluten free!), and many of their other cocktails are made with flavored vodkas that are not GF friendly. I usually stick to a glass of wine, sangria or a Titos & soda to be safe. Don't get me wrong. I still love it here and come a LOT. When Blackie's gets it right (and 9/10 times, they do!!), they hit it out of the park. read more

Checked out the new location this weekend! What an incredible atmosphere! Truly have outdone themselves ! I love the gluten free options since I have severe skin allergies, you can always count on Blackie's to have a full menu of options to chose from! The pizza was EXCELLENT! Stoli cocktails are always a favorite! read more

Excellent service. Had a grilled cheese with pickled and stuffed with tasty treats. So good.

I love this place!!! Delicious food, and far from the norm! The apple pie burger is the perfect combanation of sweet and smokey. My husband usually gets the late night burger, which has PB & J and BBQ sauce, with this combo one would think it would taste funny, but the combination is delicious! As for the appetizers, we have cornered the market by trying most of them. I will tell you the pulled pork nachos are excellent, the teryaki wings are deliciously crispy and tangy, and the calamari is sooo good. For those that have prefetence, they are calamari rings and not the whole squid. The pretzels and cheese are also great, but it is a very small portion of pretzels, even for an app. There is normally a wait, but it will be well worth it! The ONLY thing lacking is the draft beer selection and mixed drink menu. For now it's just a decent sangria or a choice of 5 drafts. read more

Went here on a whim.Food was very good and the staff very friendly. Had the cheeseburger rangoon....very good!!

Came here for some drinks and a few apps. The staff was nice and the bartenders helpful and funny. Nice fully stocked bar and appearance. The apps where good and enjoyed by all. Price wise very reasonable and decent portions. Nice outside patio also to enjoy in the warmer months. Place can get pretty busy on a Fri or a Saturday So be prepared. read more

What a nice place to find while we were traveling through the area. The menu is very cool. The hummus platter is loaded with veggies and cheese. Good stuff. The burgers with the local beef are wonderful. They have a great wine list too. I wish I could go here regularly. read more

Blackie's has been getting a lot of buzz lately so I was happy recently to meet friends there. The place is BUSY but the parking lot is big and the space inside accommodating, even including some patio seating. The menu has a lot of variety and I was impressed with the salads - not just your run-of-the-mill salads but interesting combinations like the beet and goat cheese salad that I had. With the added grilled chicken, it was a filling meal. All my companions enjoyed their dinner. It's a little loud near the bar but then again, it's that kind of place. Affordable food, generous drinks, great salads and steaks. Great for groups. The sign at the street is difficult to read and too LOW to the ground - with cars around it, I nearly drove by the place. read more

Cool bar to hang out and relax from the day. The portions are huge and the menu provides good options. I got the baked orecchiette with homemade sausage. It could feed 4 people!! The cheesy and spicy goodness would warm up anyone on a cold day like today. Good selection of beers as well. read more

Stopped in for after work drinks and was not disappointed! Love the atmosphere and they have a great wine list too! After a couple of drinks, we needed some food, so I had their pulled pork quesadilla--it was so yummy! I will be back again for sure to try them out for dinner! read more

I really liked it here! My boyfriend and I went while we were on kind of a strict diet, so I got the turkey burger. Woah! Best turkey burger I have ever had in my life hands down. My boyfriend got the turkey sandwich, also super good! The nachos were absolutely delicious too. We had a hard time getting through our regular meal after gnawing on those for a while. I definitely plan to go back! read more

Very disappointed. LOVED the old location and couldn't wait for the new location to open. EVERYTHING is different. Sat at the bar and waited 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and to get menus. There were a minimum of 3-5 bartenders on. All my favorites are no longer on the menu. Ordered martinis. Pitiful! Glass 1/3 full. I ordered the ahi tuna entree that came with 2 sides. $27. It was good but the portion size was not. Very pricey and not worth the wait. Service was poor. Overall, overpriced and not impressed! read more

Awesome neighborhood pub with terrific food! So many delicious options. So many healthy options. So many gluten free options if that is your thing. The service is so nice every time. Expect a wait whenever you go. Monday night. Saturday night. Can't even tell the difference - it is always lively and busy. I've been here for work parties, date with my husband, etc. always great. Nothing fancy - just good! read more

Couldn't wait to try the "new" Blackie's and was extremely disappointed. No "genius chef" and menu can make up for horrifically slow service. We waited well over an hour for our entrees which were nothing complicated... burger, caesar salad and salmon. Salad was not as described. Small and served in a cereal bowl. Salmon dish looked rushed and sloppy. $150 for 3 people for a mostly frustrating experience. No thanks. read more

Drinks were great and the food was pretty good, but a bit pricy for bar food. Customer service on the other hand was terrible. One of the managers asked if we wanted a free drink on the house because they needed our table for another reservation. We were told tables are only allowed an hour and a half. Apparently they are more concerned with turnaround than the guests dining experience. And no, I don't want a free drink, I just want to enjoy my current drink and not have to chug it. God forbid we wanted dessert or an after dinner drink. read more

Came back again. I am so hooked!!! The food is just so fresh. Everything is made to order and so delicious. The chef is a culinary genius. The prosciutto and fig pizza is my favorite. Also had the Mac and weenie. Love love love.......great sangria too! Can't wait to try just about everything on the menu. Still haven't tried dessert because I am always so full when I leave. Every dish is unique and the only thing I hate is that I can't eat it all. Awesome menu. Keep it up!!

I decided to give this place another chance seeing that for some reason my boyfriend liked it. I ended up getting sick again. Not sure if it's the oil they use or something. read more

Service was good, waitress was very nice but the food was nothing special. Had nachos and bread pudding. Wouldn't order either again if I give the place a second chance. Bread pudding was probably the worst I've ever had. Disappointed because the reviews I've read made it sound so great! read more

Great place for Lunch, sandwich was very good service was friendly.

I went to Blackies for the first time last night.. All I can say is WOW. From our server Mo, to the food... Everything was perfect! I'm looking forward to going back! read more

Blackie's is awesome. It's a bar where the main show is the food. Sandwiches will run you $12 to $18. Expensive for lunch but it's worth it. And they will never do lunch specials because the place is always packed! Unfortunately my favorite is gone. The meatloaf sandwich. It literally was my favorite all time. They change the menu a lot which is a good bad thing. Please bring it back. Despite that, this place is awesome. read more

I love that they are busy because it means they are doing it right. But it's too busy for me. The food is good and def better than typical bar eats. It's fairly close to our house which feels like the middle of nowhere. But good food out here comes at a cost--which here is a wait. If you don't mind a wait you will enjoy a good meal. read more

What can I say this place does it right. Unique food non cliché atmosphere and a smoking hot wait & bar staff. I like blackies. The only thing I can say is I'm really not impressed with their burgers. I don't know why but I just don't feel it. The flavor is not there but I would bet they work hard daily to perfect. We always will return. Great job Chef. read more

I went to Blackie's reopening on 08/20/2019 with three of my coworkers. We got the burger ragoons and . The appetizers tasted fantastic. One guy got a mixed drink and said that he couldn't taste the bourbon in it, that it was just really sugary. We all got the BYOBurger, but I got a turkey burger. Everyone loved their burger except for me. I thought the turkey burger was very salty and the meat was soft. Like a meat loaf consistency instead of a burger consistency. -My wife makes turkey burgers all the time and they don't suck. The beers were overpriced. $7.50 for a beer that Blackie's makes with Harpoon is $2.50 too much. The waitress was very nice and patient with us, even though we had a lot of questions. Kudos to the waitress. The food took a long time, which is expected on a grand opening. We were there for over 2 hours. The real reason why I am writing this though is that two of my coworkers vomited after they left. We think it is because of the food, perhaps their burgers. One of the guys who threw up didn't drink any alcohol. The other guy had 2 drinks total. read more

We LOVE this place!! So much that for my wife's Bday, she received 5 gift cards. The food is made to order, unique eats and a fun atmosphere. The managerial staff always aim to please and are truly concerned how your dining experience is when they stop by and ask. Highly recommend!! read more

Had a delicious shaved steak sandwich, but $14.00 for a sub and $3.00 for a coke! Maybe better to make it plan B if your on a budget!

I'm vegan so I ordered some sides off the menu that they were serving with salmon, of course minus the salmon and they happily obliged and doubled the amount. And oh my the sides were fabulous. Quinoa fried rice, whipped sweet potatoes and sautéed spinach. Those of you who want good tasty veg food at main stream restaurants know the struggle but you will have no worries here. All the other people with me loved their food also. They also had a vegan option but I didn't feel like eating hummus so it was worth asking for the sides especially when they were so good. I love this restaurant. read more
