Good food; little noisy with poor choice of music. With the dining rooms so crowded you can't talk with any privacy. Lunch is definitely quieter. read more

My husband and I have been to Blackies a few other times and loved it! However we went tonight and the service was so so terrible. We didn't have drinks with a majority of our meal because the waitress didn't come back and ask if we needed them. The table next to us had a huge glass jug of water they could pore from on their own yet we never received that. I asked for a certain sauce on the side which I didn't get until the very end of the meal. We tried waving our waitress down but didn't even see her in our area for the longest time. We ended up asking who I think was the busboy for our sauce. The waitress never apologized for not coming to check on us during the meal or about not getting us refills. I give it 3 stars because the pizza was very good however the nachos were quite gross. Really disappointed because we remember loving it there! Side note - when asking the waitress questions about certain meals on the menu, she didn't have an answer for a single one. read more

Excellent food. Service is paced so plan to spend some time. They cater to Keto/Paleo diets. Reservations highly recommended for more than 1 person. The bar is first come, first serve. Eclectic decor. read more

This place is very welcoming and inclusive and I want to like them so much. I've gotten takeout and eaten in a number of times, every time thinking and hoping it would be better... and it's not. It's presumptuous. I ordered takeout recently and was really looking forward to it. It was the Japanese sweet potato hummus veggie plate. I was pumped. The hummus itself was good but I literally cannot believe I paid $17 for a container of hummus and 3 pieces of a few vegetables. OH! And one tortilla. I want to like them so much and I'm just really disappointed. read more

Blackie's - $17. Seriously. - American Near Me - Smithfield, Rhode Island

Blackie's has always been a staple in the neighborhood. The new place has a great atmosphere. The food is delicious. The burgers and pizza are one of the best in the area. read more

Food prices are ridiculous. A large salad was not much bigger than a side salad and it was $16 with no protein. They are not flexible with adding items to your order such as sausage to one of their signature pizzas. The portion sizes on their side dishes are very small. The waiting staff was nice but not that attentive. We waited 45 minutes for our food and they did not check in with us once during that time. Sadly would not come back. read more

It was incredible. Service was wonderful from the hosts to the bar staff to our wait and bussing staff. The food was perfection. It was gluttonous how much we ate. Everything we ordered was perfect and delicious. Our server asked if there was a pace or order of food we wanted and we left it to his discretion and it was perfect. even the flatware and plating choices were gorgeous. The only thing I would say is that I'd lose the TV, but I'm pretty sure my wife and I are in the minority on that, and it didn't take anything away from the evening and they was only the 1 I saw. But thanks to all of you for the incredible meal and dining experience. Will be back and will always suggest it to people! read more

5 stars for sure! The atmosphere was nice and clean, the staff was very nice, with excellent service. My in-laws are vegans and the options were great! We had the vegan nachos, vegan pizza and vegan steak wrap which were all excellent. We are already planning on going back to try the vegan buffalo chicken dip. read more

My wife has been here several times with friends and kept telling me I have to get there, it's a must! Finally got to experience the place myself and she wasn't wrong! First of all what a transformation of the location, absolutely loved the renovations that were done! I had short rib ramen that was so good I didn't leave a drop in the bowl! The waiter brought up a good point that if you see a protein on the menu several times it's usually because it's a specialty and he couldn't have been more right! Pumpkin cheesecake was incredible! Needless to say, we will be back!! read more

We were in the area at The Purple Cat brewery and used Yelp to find something good for dinner. We found this place which had received a lot of great reviews and decided to give it a try. So many food options on their menu! They also offered paleo and gluten free options. Smallish beer list (in comparison to the food options) but very good variety. We had the cheeseburger rangoons for an app. They were tasty but one was enough. Cheese burger bites in a wonton wrapper. I rich there were more pickles! For dinner, we had the cacio e pepe egg pasta and the bbq brisket. The pasta was really fresh and tasty. Would recommend if you like peppery egg pasta. Easily two servings. Note to owners: Please add a small garlic bread to this tasty dish to kick it up a notch! The bbq brisket was very tasty, it had chunks of sweet potato and generous hunks of meat. Really flavorful! The chips and cheese served with it really complemented the bbq. Interesting and creative presentation but hubby found it difficult to eat the brisket out of the can and combine with cheese and chips. Service was quick and attentive. Highly recommend! read more

First time visit, Might be the last time, server didn't seem to understand a request on 2 items, he nodded his head and agreed to comply, on our party of 3 simple request for a extra guacamole to serve with our nachos that he never came back with , and to add were not the best tasting, explained in the description of the Martini that brown sugar either came on the rim or inside the drink, Server could not answer me, and when ordering the 2nd drink no brown sugar on the rim or explanation, when the server returned w/drink.Not a great experience read more

An amazing beer selection, and cocktail Selection. The bartenders are very tentative to what you need, they tell you all about the specials, and they never let your drink run out..I love Blackie's read more

UNREAL. No other words. Just go. Seriously. I typically don't post favorable reviews, usually poor ones to warn others. This is a not-so-secret gem in our little state. Cherry on top is the menu variability if you follow a GF, paleo or keto diet. And the keto pecan pie.... Thank you Blackie's for being fantastic. Can't wait to come back. Bye! read more

I think my brief love affair with Blackie's is over. It was fun while it lasted. My first trip here was a few weeks ago and I had an amazing burger for lunch. The fries were amazing and piled high. When somebody mentioned they were craving a burger a week later I immediately suggested Blackies. This time my burger was a lot smaller and the fries weren't as plentiful. Everything was delicious but the portions were smaller than first trip. I suggested Blackie's again for lunch yesterday. I came around 2:30ish. The music in the dining room was loud and pretty terrible. Since I got a burger the first two times here I figured I needed to switch it up. I ordered the cheese steak. The description sounded delicious and for $17 I was expecting a lot. Since the fries rock I added them for an additional $3. When it arrived I was very disappointed. The sandwich was tiny! It was two teeny halves and there was hardly any steak in there. And hardly any fries. I cannot believe this was $20. It was absolutely delicious mind you. But for $20 it was absolutely not worth it. I like the interior, the staff are all awesome, the menu is creative and unique, food quality and preparation are all great. I just don't think you can justify the high cost for what you get. As a comparison I had a delicious meal at Los Andes last week that was $18. And I got 3 meals out of it. So I'm unable to justify spending more on upscale pub grub. read more

I went to the new Blackie's location for the 1st time on a recent weekday for lunch. I made a reservation in advance, and I arrived on time for it. 1. the policy of refusing to seat people until all members of the party are present is "Disney dining plan" level insulting. Your prices are high (stoopid high,) and your menu is carefully crafted. You obviously want to position your restaurant as an upper tier option in the market, so maybe treat your customers as VIP guests not inconveniences to be managed. 2. The room to the left as you face the hostess desk is currently a depressing and institutional space with cramped, cafeteria style seating. I know grey-on-gray is the au courant neutral palate nobody can get seem to get enough of. Well Blackie's has nailed this trend; nailed it so hard in fact, they've made it passé. We were told by the host that the bare walls would soon have art/decor, but what I really wanted was better separation and/or partitioning amongst the tables. Twice the table beside us turned to engage us in conversation without any more effort on the part of the interloper than a slight shifting in his/her seat. The first time it was because they had overheard our conversation about how disappointing we found the room, and they wanted to let us know they agreed! Then the next occupants of the very same table turned to ask us what we had ordered (just after our food had arrived) because they were trying to decide about their own order choices. I should have just offered them a bite, they likely could have easily helped themselves to my plate without getting up from their chairs. 3. We checked out the bar side of the restaurant. The nod to the lime green motif thread of the old location was present here in the form of massive, centrally located demi-circle booths. While these booths were welcome "eye candy" in the midst of all the gray scale, it was immediately notable that the people seated in them looked physically uncomfortable. They barely fit. This is because the booth benches are less than a complete half circle. Imagine your table is a clock face, and you and your 3 friends can only sit in the space from 12 to 5. So much smushing! Even so, this is the room/area where you should request to be seated (demand it, in fact.) 4. A few more micro tragedies: The wine pours = the absolute stingiest (as in a ridiculous little puddle of wine in the bottom of a great big glass, for $12) It was obvious that the etched b. logo on each glass was meant to indicate to the bar tenders where the fill line was located. (friends, it was the very bottom of the little b. which was placed so painfully low on the glass.) The potato chips = tasteless plate mulch. While the menu was expansive and interesting reading, (many "pickled" things and things with NC bacon,) ultimately the food presentation was not all that engaging. It tasted ok (not those chips tho, gah!) Conclusion - I very much wanted to love Blackie's Bulldog Tavern, and maybe my huge expectations were the problem, but I did not enjoy much of anything about the experience of dining here. It was a $100 lunch for 2 experiment I'll not be repeating soon ... but based on how many other people were also there on this same day, I'm confident I will not be missed in the least. read more

Have been here a few times but the first time for brunch. We also brought friends visiting from out of town. Our friend were impressed by how many items they had for people who are vegans or have food restrictions. Our friend found them helpful and knowledgeable. As usual the food did not disappoint. Portions were great. Usually our kids are picky and they even found something to there liking. None of us left feeling hungry or feeling to full on a lazy Sunday. read more

This place moved to a new building but it did not seem to add more dining space, maybe more space for cocktails which make more money. The menu is super confusing and unorganized. The food was average. I did like the homemade chips. I had a reuben, which was not freshly made. Cut corned beef, fried and added to cheese and sauerkraut and dressing. My son had a cheesesteak which was flavorless and served in foil for some reason. No need. The pizza was nothing special either. I guess you come here for drinks. When you're drunk, food tastes better. I'm going to Laura's next time. read more

Post work cocktail and light app. Pepperoni pizza was delicious and the dirty martini was nicely balanced although a bit on the short side. However, after the pizza was dropped off, we went 40 minutes without anyone asking if we needed anything. Too bad because we did. Dude, this place is legit. Let's start with a couple of things I don't like. The wait can be ridiculous and unless you have the app and can check in before going it can be 2 plus hours for a table. The prices are also more expensive then your typical restaurant but the quality you get is worth it every once in a while. Fourth time here and I've always had great experiences. This time I arrived with a party of 6 and I kept checking the app because it's been so helpful in the past but it kept saying no wait. When we walked in they told us we had a 1/2 hour wait. It's not been 40 minutes and I have watched multiple tables sit before us so I'm confused on the reservation and app. Little disappointed as well.... Alright the positives! The menu is so creative like it's almost impossible to choose something. I always enjoy the pulled pork nachos and would love to try a couple of other apps as well. I've also had the wings and the sauces are always changing and very unique but good. My boyfriend got the turkey burger and it was delicious and fresh, the french fries are also good and crispy and seasoned very well. I got the Big Boody Judy and it was like Fall in a sandwich. It was so delicious. This was my third time coming and the first time it was good, second time it was okay and this last time perfect. A plus is they have great gluten free options and even pal read more

I recently had an unforgettable birthday celebration at Blackies in their private event space. My husband surprised me with a Chef's Table dining experience consisting of a five course dinner that was designed and exquisitely prepared by Chef Angie and her team. Chef Angie was able to transform a list of preferences into a culinary masterpiece that impressed all of our guests from young to old. Watching her prepare each course was inspirational as we could see (and taste) her passion and creativity in every dish. I also want to recognize Jeanine who was instrumental in the planning and execution of the event. She left no stone unturned to ensure that expectations were exceeded. The attention to detail, the level of service, and the amazing food culminated into one of the most memorable and enjoyable birthday celebrations of my life. They truly raised the bar for what a fine dinning experience should be. Thank you Chef Angie, Jeanine and the entire Blackie's team for opening up your home and sharing your family with ours. read more

One of my favorite places to eat in Rhode Island. The staff is always very kind and energetic, as well as understanding to allergies. As someone who frequented "old" blackies, I really wish they would have a more diverse menu. I used to live 3 minutes away and found my only (yes only) complaint is that the menu is basically always the same, with 1-3 specials every week or so. Being a restaurant so close to where I was, I wanted to frequent more often but found myself getting tired of the same old thing. Bring back breakfast and maybe diversify a little more and there's nothing left to want. This is just MY opinion though. read more

Don't waste your time. This restaurant hit all of the pain points for me. I should have made an alternate choice when I was told that a reservation required a credit card. We were seated at 4:45PM - clearly not the height of the evening rush. Ordered within 10 minutes. Food came around 6:15PM. Not exagerating. The 4 kids at the table were at best antsy by the time the food arrived. To make it worse, the meals did not meet expectations for the price points. Overly salty, cold, gross...many descriptive adjectives here. Finally, our server was either having a bad day or should find a profession that she's passionate about. I was not expecting exceptional, but she was poor at best. She kept telling us that the food was scratch made and to be patient- which sounds great in theory. However, I make food from scratch most evenings. It NEVER takes me that long to make a sandwich. DO NOT ORDER THE CHICKEN POT PIE PASTA. It probably ranks as the second worst meal I've had in a restaurant. Management did make a visit to our table to offer free dessert because 3 of 4 kids meals arrived at least 15 minutes after the other delayed "made from scratch" meals. The manager/owner focused on the late kids meals in her half-hearted apology- not the entire botched experience. We feared an unplanned overnight at the restaurant had we accepted the free desert - unclear as to whether or not it would arrive before sunrise. Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. read more

Went for Pizza. Great menu, good service, all ruined by loud thumping music. They evidently subscribe to the idiot research that loud music makes people drink faster and therefore more. Madde us eat faster and spend less to get out of there. Owner responded all I had to do was to ask the music rot be turned down. I DID!!!!! Learned later that this was a frequent guest complaint and request that is ignored. read more

A swing and a miss... this is likely the best way to describe this place. Allow me to explain. I have been going to Blackie's for years now. The menu is chock-full of creative dishes and this is probably why it remains extremely popular. My wife often picks this place because it's still one of a scant number of places that offers a variety of gluten-free options. It has taken me a long time to write a review because I have been waiting for this place to wow me. I wanted to understand the impossibly long waits for dinner at any time I have chosen to visit. But, I have not been wowed. So here I am: I am Alisha and I don't understand the hype behind this place. I have enjoyed some of my entrees, and I have not enjoyed some of my entrees. For starters, the menu offerings often incorporate sweet and savory. This combination can be beautiful and harmonious. And there are times it does not work. At Blackie's, I often find it's the latter. Most recently, I had a savory cheesecake with candied jalapeño. In a prior trip, I sampled a bit of my friend's apple pie burger. It was peculiar. Now, I don't want you to think I don't like anything about this place. There are things: I have liked the flavor of the nachos, but they are served in a large bowl and the chips at the bottom become soggy. A soggy nacho is a no-go. But I have enjoyed my burgers there and am usually happy with the savory schmears (which is a weird word choice when it comes to food). I have also been happy with my desserts. I can tell you definitively that I will return to Blackie's because my wife likes the burgers and I love my wife. But I will like have a drink, take a bite of her burger, and have a cookie. read more

The Blackies we loved is back. Better than ever tonight. nachos, apple pie burger, the wrap, mashed potatoes with gravy, fries, winter bonfire and sangria! So so good. Oh and the Samoa Cheesecake!!! Service was horrendous tonight- got there at 4 and sat at a high top in the bar-waited forever for our drinks- we were ordering them before we were even half way down with what we had because the service was so bad. The girl really needed help and was in the weeeds the whole time. We spent $147 with tip for two of us and felt the service was of fast food quality. Thank god your food is as good as it is or no one would be back. Other tables around us were frustrated as well with one going up to the bar to get drink refills- totally unacceptable. We go weekly and this was by far the worst service ever. Had to ask for things multiple times before getting them- took 2.5 hours to dine... 2/19-Food always 5 star- service lousy again today around 4:00- last 4 times it's been horrendous! When you're paying 100+ for two people there is no excuse- every table at a high top in the bar looked miserable- servers switching but not letting customers know- drinks having to be ordered two at a time- needed salt/pepper/ketchup/napkins/ water etc....your food is only going to carry you so far. read more
