Huge fan of Blackies. There's something on the menu for everybody! My waitress, Amy (I think her name was) was so attentive, so personable and she was BUSY! Best service I've had in a long time. From apps to dinner to dessert, I couldn't eat enough. The only suggestion I would make is that, sometimes.... and just sometimes, less is more (specifically referring to the giant burger with all kinds of meat) that dish is a thanksgiving meal. Otherwise; this place is amazing! All sorts of gluten free options, wonderful drinks and a menu that will leave you wanting it ALL! read more

I have been hearing about Blackie's ever since the ladies took it over a few years ago . I had heard nothing but rave reviews . Last Thursday I finally had a visit . My cousin was visiting from England and we wanted to take her to lunch . We didn't want fine dining but we didn't want McDonalds either . I remembered a good friend always mentioning Blackie's . I hopped online and was immediately impressed with the size of their menu and the variety of dishes offered . It was for this reason I chose to bring my cousin to Blackie's . I figured there had to be something my English cousin would like . She ended up getting the steak tips and a salad . She loved both . My brother built his own burger . I assume he loved it as he pretty much inhaled it . I got the fish and chips . While not traditional New England fish and chips , Blackie's fish and chips are excellent . And I suspect they are healthier than traditional NE fish and chips . The service was very good . The restaurant and bathroom were spotless and the atmosphere for a summer afternoon was appropriate . Thanks to Blackie's and their staff for making us look good in front of our cousin . We will be going back ! read more

One thing I will say is Blackie's has a good social media team as I constantly see ads on Facebook and reposts, so at least there food is creative and photographs well enough for reposts. So needless to say I was excited when a friend suggested we go for dinner. It was a quiet Wednesday night so lucky we were able to get right in, the place looks bigger then it actually is, I think the fact the place offers 3 menus a Paleo, Gluten Free and Regular so it really covers a lot of bases for different tastes. Most of the things I've seen on Facebook are fried which is not bad at all but was trying to eat a little cleaner. So I had to stay away from the French fries, nachos and fried cheeseburger wontons which I saw grace many tables, and smelt great. I opted for the turkey cutlets which came over a sweet potato and apple compote with some red eye gravy, I thought it was a decent compromise to not having a salad but still eating something you can't get at every place. It was decent the compote was more like an apple pie filling, the turkey cutlets were a little to charred, but the gravy was the star and basically made it all come together. I am sure had I just went a burger or one of those appetizers my review my have been higher, my friend did a paleo platter and the spaghetti squash with olive tapenade was very good! Overall a decent pub style place with a spin and has some hearty dishes and good size portions. read more

The food here was amazing! We ordered the turkey burger and the pastrami, and both were excellent. We'd definitely come back. We visited on a weeknight and the wait for a table was over an hour and a half, but there were lots of seats at the bar so we could scoot in. read more

Updated. I would love for this to be a five star experience now that the location has moved, but there are some things that made it be so close... yet so far away from that experience. Some good new things-- --Parking has improved drastically! ! --More seating!!! --Expanded menu!!! --Reservations!!!!!!! Some not so good things-- One side of the restaurant reminds me of a cafeteria. Very simple, dreary, and the music is just so loud. When you're on that side of the building, it's much more drab than the vibrant, pretty, and bright side of the restaurant where the two pizza ovens and bars are. I love the bar side of the restaurant, and have sat at the bar several times. Great service, great drinks. The other side is so.... different. The servers are not very attentive and have an attitude. They cared much more about busing their tables (even though someone was busing, and there was no crowd) than greeting us or taking our orders. It's almost like you're at two different restaurants. Worse yet, if you're not a large party, you're probably going to sit in the cafeteria side of the house. That's part of the reason why I prefer eating at the bar. The food itself is delicious, and the owners have worked so hard to create a great meal. I honor that, and love the food. I just wish the experience was a little better. read more

My wife and I have never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. It is one of our favorite places to go.

Went last Sunday enjoyed some delicious Apps the Crostini was awesome as was the Nacho's. My Salmon entree was over cooked and dry. The Birdie Gurdi tasted amazing but there was a hair that was not mine baked in to the cheese and my wife couldn't enjoy the other half of her sandwich. Slightly overpriced for killer concepts but average execution . Ambience decent, was clean but also had a cold kinda feel to it. Think they would benefit from ditching the marble style tables and adding some rustic wood ones to add some warmth read more

Since moving to Rhode Island a few years ago, I was introduced to waffle fries at this very location. Blackies has fabulous fries, great burgers, and their desserts are my favorites. Anyone you choose is delicious, you cannot go wrong. They have a chill atmosphere, which lens itself to a great place to go with a friend or with family. Normally I wouldn't say lime green is a great interior color for a restaurant but they knocked it out of the park. I enjoyed my time there and I hope you do too! Since Covid, I've noticed that their hours have been less regular. Call ahead before you make plans to go. read more

Blackie's - Smoked Turkey Pub. Huge! Delicious! - American Near Me - Smithfield, Rhode Island

When hearing about this eatery, I was so excited to hear that they had many vegan/vegetarian options as I am vegetarian. I did take some time to go over some reviews so I knew what to expect. Everyone's observations of slow service, not personable staff and cramped atmosphere was pretty on point. However, the food was very good and there was a lot of food provided the price. I got the vegan nachos and there was so much! I also could barely tell is was vegan; I must have the vegan queso recipe omg! There was some things to miss about the nachos though. I know there are some sacrifices when becoming vegan and vegetarian but fresh pico de Gallo is not one of them. The nachos were very heavy when you take into consideration the small amount of sour cream and guacamole, compared to the large amount of smoked jackfruit and queso. I did enjoy it, I just felt it was lacking a fresh element. One of the other members of my party got the Japanese sweet potato hummus plate. The hummus had almost a gummy texture? I don't know if this is due to the waxy nature of white sweet potatoes or if it was because it was worked too hard. When overworking potatoes, the starches become gummy. The flavor was nice though! I do think the plate left something to be desired. There was not many vegetables and just a lot of cubed avocado. Don't get me wrong, I love avocado on anything but mush on mush is not for me. The third member of my party got the buffalo chicken dip, she said it was delicious and I don't doubt it! Our waitress, although she seemed very nice, was not very attentive. The place was packed so I was not expecting a whole lot in terms of service. We did arrive a little earlier than expected and were seated promptly! That was a pleasant surprise! We did place reservations online and were asked if we were celebrating anything, it's my birthday! I think it's a little unnecessary to ask this of the person making a reservation if you aren't planning on doing anything commemorative of it. Also, when we walked in to the restaurant, there were about 7 staff members behind the enormous "hostess stand." We were not greeted at all and were merely stared at by the three girls in the center. I will be coming back, hopefully soon, to try some fun entrees and hopefully when it's not too busy so that I can have a proper customer service experience. read more

I've been here a couple of times and the food is normally pretty good. This time it seems like they jacked up their prices astronomically--$23 for a sandwich. I got the steak tips from the clean menu with rice and kale. Everything came out swimming in juice and lacking flavor. For the price, not worth it. read more

I threw up all night after eating what the server suggested to me (I told her I'm gluten free- as I have celiac)! When I was first diagnosed I found Blackie's a few years ago and it quickly became my favorite restaurant. I visited often and never worried about eating there as they pride themselves on being gluten free. Apparently it's not something they care about at their new location. After waiting 2 hours for a meal, the "new" Blackie's atmosphere is cold and dark. I called as we were driving there (around 3:30 pm) and asked the hostess to put in our name. "I'm sorry we no longer do call ahead." So then I asked to make the next reservation. Maybe 4pm? "I don't think we can do that- I don't know." She was unsure versus telling me when their next reservation was, or even if they were booked for the night. Super unprofessional. Maybe she's busy? Arriving at the "dungeon" there were about 5 hostesses at the stand- which seemed very unnecessary. We watched as they just kept turning people down which was mildly entertaining. They weren't rude but the definitely weren't friendly -which matched their cold grey vibe they created with their "new" look. As we waiting for a table we got a drink at the bar. The bartender was cranky stressed and overwhelmed, just doing the best she can. No one seemed happy sitting at the bar. While eating I kept thinking there were definitely not enough servers and way too many girls at the front standing there doing nothing. I've worked in restaurants and many times hostesses help to bus tables (which were a mess and we watched as they didn't get cleaned or turned). When using the bathroom there was one hostess just calmly wiping things that weren't dirty. We were supposed to have plans after, but I didn't realize this was going to be a 2-3 hour meal in the new depressing atmosphere, which also put me to bed sick. It's very upsetting to see what's become of my favorite restaurant. I hope when they hype dies down it returns to some of their old values. It was such a miserable night between the new experience and being sick, I have no desire to return. read more

Atmosphere: Mixed feelings Service: Very good Food: Okay Prices: Astronomical Menu: Confusing My husband and I just went to Blackie's tonight at its new location. Place was packed, cars parked along 116. When I first walked in, I felt like I arrived at a fancy hotel with a huge hostess bar. I put my name in for us and they told me I could sit at the bar which also offered a full menu. I walked into the room with the bar (to the right) and it was very nice, shabby-chic, but not the tavern vibe that Blackie's is known for having. I ordered a Sam Adams Octoberfest and received a "sexy" beer glass that was tall and skinny but could not have been more than 12 or 16 oz. I received a text that our table was ready far sooner than promised, great! I paid my tab for my $7.08 beer, that was a bit much to say the least. Went to the table in the dining room and I felt like I was in a dungeon. Completely dark gray, no art work, weird lighting, and very tightly packed seating. Felt like a cafeteria in a prison, only thing missing was bars on the windows. The waitress was lovely. When we looked over the menus, we were struggling to find certain items, the menu is almost too big. I loved the burgers at the old place so I ordered a BYO-burger. They did not list "regular beef" for a burger option and the other options were $9-$13 for a naked burger, the waitress informed me that they did have a regular beef one (but I actually don't know how much that was). I asked about a side of onion rings because I knew they were hand made and really good, but the waitress said that they did not offer it as a side but had an onion ring appetizer option that she warned us was "not the price of a side," then I read the menu and saw what she meant: $15 for 3 onion rings, holy shit! So I passed. So instead I took the hit with the up-charge of $3 for sweet potato fries, but I did receive a generous portion of fries. The burger though...it shrunk. I remember struggling to finish my burger at the old Blackie's because it was so big, but I was able to kill this and most of my fries with no problem. My husband and I felt nickeled and dimed on everything, this on top of already having higher prices than some Providence restaurants (and this is Smithfield). They may say that their prices haven't changed but the sizes have. Draught beer is generally inexpensive, so to pay $7+ for a 16 oz beer that wasn't from a microbrew or craft beer is ridiculous. My plan is to wait a while before going back, let them get some art on the walls, maybe realize that no one is going to pay $5/onion ring. There are only so many parent-weekends at Bryant that can help this survive as is. No college student could afford to go here without mom or dad paying. So if you are looking for a night out at a pub or tavern, Blackie's is no longer of that genre. We did have good service with a waitress who was honest. I recommend eating at the bar vs the dining room. There is a patio that I did not check out but is probably nice. read more

First time here. Had the tacos....wow. They were the perfect lunch treat and I thoroughly enjoyed them. In fact, I inhaled them. They were that good. Winner winner, dilla. This is a winner! This app is awesome! AND it comes with a bacon drippings sauce for dipping (your arteries with NOT thank you but your tummy will). Casual, relaxed vibe with a good beer list and interesting menu. Nothing but 5 Stars. We went back tonight for a quick bit. Our waitress was awesome! The cheeseburger Rangoon's were brilliant. I had the spicy cod sandwich. It was HUGE!! It was just the right amount of spice, crispy and fresh. But I had to deconstruct it because it would have been very un-ladylike to bite into it. My husband had the eggplant grilled cheese and there was none left over for me to have! One thing I love is the write up for the menu items. They are very precise but so enticing. Call ahead to see about the wait because everyone knows this place is awesome so they are always very busy!! read more

There is seriously nothing that I don't like about Blackie's! I love the creative and always-changing menu and the atmosphere inside of the restaurant. You can tell that the chef has so much passion for what goes out of the kitchen and that's one of the things that keeps me going back for more. It takes a lot of hard work to run a successful restaurant and I think that it's even harder when the restaurant is located in a small town and not in a shopping plaza on the main road. Social media obviously plays a huge role in Blackie's marketing and I certainly look forward to seeing their posts especially at the beginning of the month when there's a new cheesecake! read more

Wow! There are only so many restaurants that show they care about food down to an ingredient level and the combinations of those ingredients and their desired outcome on the plate. Chef Angie is one of the best at that. We recently hosted a party at their "Chef's table" and all 14 of us walked away WOWED! We were amazed at every step of the way. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we felt as part of the family in Angie's and Jeanine's dream kitchen. The food tastings were so spectacular, there was no way you could decide a favorite. The cocktails that were specially made for the night were as equally delightful and tasteful. Being someone that enjoys being creative in my own kitchen, made this event that much more interesting. We were allowed to "Hover" over Chef Angie in the kitchen as she constructed our next course. We were able to ask all the questions we wanted and we never felt that it was an intrusion or a bother. It really was like we were just part of the family. We can't wait for another reason to host a party here! Thank you Chef Angie and Jeanine for a spectacular night that will never be forgotten! read more

Let me start off by saying my reason for the four stars has nothing to do with the food! It has everything to do with the parking situation and waiting for a table! We tried to go to Blackies about a week ago and there was an hour wait to get a table. So we left and decided last night we wanted to try it so we made a reservation for 6:15. We got to Blackies around 6 o'clock and circled the parking lot for 15 minutes and could not get a parking spot. We ended up parking on the busy road which I wasn't overly thrilled with considering I have an almost brand new car. We walked in at 6:13 and waited another 20 minutes to be seated. I will say that once we were seated the service was excellent and the food was phenomenal. I was pleasantly surprised that I had multiple vegan options to choose from. I've lived my entire life only having one or two options it was overwhelming to have as many as I did. I ended up getting the dahl e llama sandwich - Which was fabulous. My fiancé decided to go with build your own burger and he loved it. I do think that an up charge of three dollars to get french fries instead of chips is a little steep but our bill was reasonable even with beer. We are definitely going to return but next time we will make our reservation for later as when we were leaving there were plenty of parking spots to choose from. read more

I had been to the old location and the food was great but this was my first time at the new location. I was NOT disappointed. The place is brand new so it looked great and was sparkling clean. The food was outstanding! I had the Chicago Style Italian beef melt at the recommendation of our server. She also talked me into the maple mayo that came with the sweet potato fries and I'm glad she did because it is a must have! We were seated at the pizza bar and watched the pizza chef at work. I cannot express how impressive it was to watch him. He took the same amount of care with each pizza he made. The work area was spotless and since we stayed until the end the night we got to see the high level of cleaning and food storage that took place! That guy deserves a raise. A special shout out to our server Britney! She had an excellent personality and was enthusiastic about the food she was serving. She was happy to give recommendations and all of them were spot on! It was clear they were understaffed and it looked like Britney and the bartender were covering most if not all of the bar areas and seated section. We still received excellent service with a big smile ( I swear I'm not related to her, she was just that good). I will absolutely be back to try the pizza and about 10 other things I saw on the menu and you can be sure we will ask for Britney! read more

I had heard really good things about this place so I went with my sister to see what the hype was about. It's a nice location and space. It was very bust when we went but we were seated quickly at a hightop. We ordered nachos and some chicken strips in a kind of soda spiked sauce. Both items had potential but they weren't exactly to our liking. The cheddar cheese sauce on the nachos was a bit overpowering and there was a ton of it. I do appreciate the way they layer the cheese and toppings throughout the plate so you don't end up with a bunch of bare chips but if I had the option for regular shredded cheese I'd probably be more excited about it. The chicken strips were ok. The first strip was delicious but after that they were just too sweet for us. Service was good and the food came out pretty quickly. It was a little more than I like to pay for nachos and chicken strips but it wasn't completely outrageous. read more

My work colleagues and I made reservations to go to lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Even though the reservation list looked completely empty I made reservations anyway just to be safe. When we got there, I gave them my name and our table was not ready yet. We had to wait about 20 minutes for the table to be ready (good thing I made a reservation!). There were about 6 of us so naturally I thought we would get a table but nope they put three table tops together in a corner near the bar which was pretty awkward especially if we were sharing appetizers, etc. One of the table tops kept tilting. There were plenty of tables open for us to sit at one of them so not sure what happened there. Our waitress took our drink order and it took a longgggg time to get our drinks. So after she came back with drinks we just put in the appetizers and lunch entrees in all at once. The smoked turkey pub is one of my favorites and the buffalo chicken dip. They charge for every little thing though. I do feel like the service and food was better at the other location. Seems like it has really fallen since they moved. Towards the end of our meal I asked if I could have the chocolate chip cookies. It was on the menu so why not. The pictures on social media of the cookies looked yummy. The waitress told me "We only give those to kids." But if I'm paying for it why would that be a problem? Anyways, she proceeded to tell me that she was following rules and that she could only give them to kids. So, I said, "What if I said I had a child at home?" and she responded, "Then you would have to take then to go." So fine. She came out with 3 of the tiniest cookies I have ever seen in my life. The size of a silver dollar - literally - with one chocolate chip in each cookie. They tasted like grass. Kind of a bizarre experience. read more

Mediocre limited menu not impressed Only good thing was the sweet potato fries Not for me.

Over priced and overrated. I'm not paleo or gluten free so maybe it's a different experience if you go that route. We were shocked by the prices and decided to stick with appetizers. The Cheesy Nachos, they tasted like movie theatre nachos and came with a price tag of $16 (cheese, chips, 5 slivers of black olives, 10 little tomato pieces, one scoop of guac and salsa verde). We wanted some protein so we also ordered the meaty bites... another $16 for three tiny overcooked and dried up riblets, three small chunks of pork belly and some pickled cucumbers and watermelon rind. I must say, the pickles were delicious. Looked around, a $17 salad was tiny... same with burger and fries... I dont understand why this place gets so crowded on the weekend. As mentioned before the food is terrible yet over priced. Lets talks about the inside... the drop ceiling by the bar has water stains and water damage ....maybe people like the the small outdoor area? who knows, but I do know that this is the last time we eat here.... read more

Came for lunch the day before Thanksgiving, the place was about half-full. Our food took nearly an hour to come out (our food was kid's chicken tenders, 2 fish n chips, and a veggie burger). The five year old in attendance was handed a glass bottle of root beer...and our other child was served a kids portion instead of the adult portion. The fries were soaked in grease, and the chicken tenders were hard and inedible. $75 for a terrible lunch (not including tip) and mediocre service, and that was after the kid's meal was taken off the check. Not impressed after all of the great things I have heard. read more

This place is unreal. Seriously, it is. Any time you see a business with a 4-star rating and there's almost 500 reviews supporting said rating, it's good. What's even better is when you go in person and it exceeds all your expectations, which is exactly what happened this past weekend. Blackie's menu is wildly creative and it'll be a challenge to figure out what you want to eat, but whatever you get, you won't be leaving hungry or disappointed. We thought we'd be safely avoiding the crowd coming on a snowy Saturday afternoon, but the place was packed! We didn't have a problem getting a parking spot because a couple people were leaving, but I could see where it could be an issue. The interior is kind of funky, it's painted in this cheerful bright green with some fun artwork interspersed, and the usual bar and table setups. It's cozy and pleasant. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable as we had many menu questions; everything looked so good that it was nearly impossible to decide what to order. They've got pasta dishes, entrées, sandwiches, burgers, salads, pizza, the works. There's a good beer selection as well. We started off with the much-raved Cheeseburger Rangoons, which were fabulous. It's basically a diced cheeseburger and fries wrapped in a wonton and fried, and then they top each one with this special Thousand Island-esque sauce and put a few housemade pickle chips on the side. I wish there had been more of them, it's only 5 per order. For my entrée, I had the Classic Diner Burger and upgraded to a side of Black Garlic Chicken Salted Fries (burgers come with housemade potato chips, fries are an upgrade). Both were unbelievably flavorful and just plain delicious, and generously portioned. My friends ordered the Eggplant Grilled Cheese and the American as Apple Pie Burger, and they also said their meals were bomb. For dessert we split a S'Mores Brownie Sundae which was, predictably, amazing. It was the perfect comfort food for a cold day. Blackie's is my new favorite restaurant, and the only negative is that I wished I lived closer. But I will definitely be returning. It's one of those places that you can't forget, and you can't just go once. Their menu will be haunting my dreams! (In a good way). read more
