I love a good cuss word more than most, but when trying to enjoy a nice relaxing breakfast, it kind of kills the mood. "Holy f***ing sh**!" I want so badly to like this place. But for some reason the food always falls a bit short. The French press coffee needs an overhaul. Not sure if the coffee itself is bad or if the staff hasn't been properly trained on how to make it, but it always tastes kind of gross and grainy. What a wonderful happy hour/dinner experience we had at Bird recently!! We stopped in around 4:00 pm on a Sunday and were advised happy hour continues until close on Sunday evenings.....a pleasant surprise! We ordered the pretzel bites w beer cheese sauce (delish!). As we were enjoying our refreshing drinks, our darling server, Mary, brought a plate of the trio burger slider appetizer and told us it was prepared in error and comp'd it...how nice! The 3 different burger flavors were fantastic!! The happy hour margaritas I ordered were very tasty with 100% agave tequila and just the right mixture!! I finished the meal off with the grilled cheese and tomato bisque ~ it was perfection! Great food, great service!! Try it...I promise it won't disappoint!! read more

Out of the the 3 restaurants I visited on S. Pearl street, this one was one of the better. Like some others have said, the food was good but service was so-so. To err on the positive I'll give it a 4 star. Food: Food is good, very tasty, fresh and thoughtful. Not anything unique per se (when you're from the SF Bay Area, you see A LOT of variations of food at high caliber) but the presentation, taste and quality warrant the price/expectation. Service: So-So. Really it was the hostess as our waitress was awesome. The hostess kept telling us different times when our table would be ready. Granted it was a Farmers' Market Sunday so it was hella busy BUT don't tell us 30 mins, then we come back in 30 mins, then she said, "oh another 10mins"....well then an additional 25 mins later I was getting really irritated because a bunch of other people who came in after my small party of 3 were being seated a lot faster than us. When I told the lady to take our names off, MAGICALLY we got seated immediately. End story to management about what would be good in a hostess: BE UP FRONT and gracious about your wait times/delays/communication. Don't brush off patrons with generic "it's 10 mins more". One would think they're lying, uninformed or being "selective" about who they choose to seat first. read more

The Manager that is working today ruined our dining experience. She was very rude to my Wife and I. We were very professional when discussing a couple things with her and she was not. She cut us off and very rudely said "I'm not going to argue with you". She did not apologize and she left a bad taste in our mouth. We will never come back here again. read more

Dined here twice during my Denver bday celebration. Both with Restaurant.com certificates that they stacked on TOP of happy hours deals and already GREAT price points for the cuisine. They were out of cashew cheese for the vegan burger but offered a great brie as an alternative (i know, i know, not vegan, but delicious nonetheless) and their french fries were very tasty. The brussell sprouts were so BANGIN we ordered two orders to go; the crab cakes were DEVOURED. Came back the next day for brunch and the bottomless mimosas and was NOT disappointed. They're one of the few places that offer GRAPEFRUIT mimosas and the refills were always prompt which is great for a boozy bday brunch. The chicken and waffles were fantastic. The wait staff is very attentive while being very casual; I appreciated the great service. When something wasn't right, they made it right immediately. The "south west" salad was canned corn, black beans, and tomatoes thrown on a heavy bed of arugula with no(?) dressing. I wish I took photos! I loved this place. I got the chicken and waffles. Chicken was perfectly breaded and cooked for me and the waffles were deliciously light and fluffy. I came here with a group of 15 or so back in September (completely forgot to leave a review so this review will be short). They sat us upstairs. I enjoyed that little area because it was just us upstairs. Staff was kind and helpful. The space itself was very quaint. Parked a few streets away but the walk was fun since they had vendors and whatnot along the way. Definitely will come back. read more

I met a friend here for Happy Hour, dinner. This is a fairly small restaurant with a nice bar area, nice patio with a fire pit. The waiter was great, very attentive. We started out with a glass of wine and a cocktail off the Happy Hour menu, and an order of Brussel sprouts that were amazing! Prices for Happy Hour are very reasonable. We then moved into the dining room for dinner. I had the mushroom Bolognese and the beet carpacio salad, and my friend had the BBQ jackfruit sandwich with fries. I was amazed at how good that sandwich was! We split a bottle of wine and got Happy Hour pricing on it, too. Overall, everything was really good and we will definitely be back! The poached eggs were over cooked and the hash browns were uncooked. The eggs Benedict was on a baguette which made it difficult to eat. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. This place is nuts during the Farmer's Market! We were called once our 35-minute wait was up for a table for two. We were promptly seated, thereafter, but waited over 10 minutes before anyone approached us & that ended up being one of the owners providing us with water & taking our drink orders. We waited an additional 5 or so before we received those drinks from the server assigned to us & were able to place our orders. I don't know how long it took to get our food but I do know that it was long enough to watch our neighboring table of four receive & finish their plates. Though, the delay in service was underwhelming, the food did a good job of making up for it. We both ordered the two eggs, any style. One plate included a waffle & bacon and, the other, French toast & sage sausage. Everything was tasty, warm, & presented well. The sausage was truly amazing. We were also pleased with the French press coffee & chai offered. The only other irritant was the gnats/flies within the restaurant due to the patio/slide doors being wide open. I know this is part of the experience, especially being in the midst of the market, but I would advise against it. Luckily, I'm not squeamish & I don't see bugs landing in my food as a deal breaker. However, I did have to scoop two large gnats out of my chai during my visit & who knows how many I actually ate on my food since it was harder to see. Four stars are still owed because, aside from the slow service & gnats, the overall ambience of the place is nice, the owner we met was superb, & the food was delish. read more

I wanted so badly to like Bird and we were genuinely excited to try it out. Originally my friend made reservations for dinner, but we saw the happy hour menu onlIne and thought what a great deal $7 for a burger and a beer. Side note I'm pregnant and was going to give my beer to my husband. Also this dinner with our friends was a celebration for us as we are having our baby next week. It was a last hoorah before we become a family of 3. So it was kind of a big deal for us. That being said my husband and I arrived first. The hostess was super sweet to us and sat us at our reserved table. The waitress came over filled our waterrs and left without saying a word to us. Then she came back about 5 minutes later and seemed annoyed the rest of our party wasn't there yet. They were literally parking! We see that the happy hour menu is very different than online. I ask the waitress and explain it was a big reason in our coming here. She gets extremely annoyed and rolls her eyes then gives us a death stare and says they'll honor it but it is one of those deals that "if you know you know and they don't real advertise it out there". First of all it's on the website it's not exactly a secret. The happy hour menu online vs the restaurant is vastly different from one another. The online menu was much better to be honest and I highly suggest they update the website so people aren't mislead anymore. As the waitress is annoyed we try to order some drinks and I ask her if they have any mocktails or kombucha something nonalcoholic. She gets even more annoyed and snaps at me that they don't and she supposes they have kombucha but has no idea what flavors. I asked her to just grab me whatever flavor then and she storms off. Our friends arrive and we explain to them the menu change. The waitress comes back still has an attitude. My friend is asking her questions about the main menu entrees and she is snapping at her and rolling her eyes. She then starts taking all our orders and gets back to our friend who had a few more qUestions. She stops her and says that she will just come back. It was horrible to be treated this way. We were not doing anything that warranted this sort of behavior from our waitress. She was not swamped, the restaurant was not busy, we weren't asking out of the ordinary questions. We get our food and she serves my husband and I our appetizers with our burgers which were our main meals. However our friend's only have their apps and have to wait on their entrees. The food was good and it why I'm giving 2 stars. If our waitress had been kind or acted appropriately it would have been 4 or even 5. I'm not one to call restaurants and complain, but I'm seriously considering it after our experience. Nobody should ever be treated that way. This place is expensive for an average restaurant. The food tastes okay but to be honest, there's nothing very special about it. I love the space, the decor and the location but the food was average at best. We got the bird burger and the stuffed poblano pepper. On top of the poblano pepper being smaller than I've ever seen and not at all "stuffed", the green sauce on the pepper did not have a good taste and the burger was lackluster. We had higher expectations considering how well reviewed it seemed to be. The plus side is that they did have a good Bloody Mary and our waitress was very nice. Overall I would say that if they worked on their flavors a bit more they would have a really solid place! read more

Comfort food extraordinaire! Went there with a group and sat in the cozy upstairs. They have breakfast all day so it was a tough decision, but I tried the meatloaf and was so pleased i did. Someone ordered the chicken pot pie and while it was good, don't expect it to be traditional pot pie with crust. It's more like chicken and biscuits. The crepes looked amazing and one diner was particularly taken with the cornmeal pancakes. They have wonderful fancy drinks too! Be prepared to bring home leftovers because the portions are huge! What a way to lose customers! 8:30 we arrive to an almost full house. Hostess doesn't come over for 5 minutes. Then she's very rude and brusque. She asks us what we want. Duh. I say table for two. She looks around and says we can sit at the community table. I say no, thanks. Then she says that's all we have. Awkward pause and no offer of a waitlist. I ask if there will be a table in 10 minutes or so and rudely said she didn't know. I step back with my husband and say nevermind no thanks. It was obviously what she wanted to hear. It's rare that you sit down at a restaurant, look at the menu, and honestly want to order 7 different things that all look good. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and was not disappointed. Their quiche of the day is almost always good, and uses fresh ingredients. The portions, while not huge (a la Snooze), are still filling. The only bad is the time you have to wait, since they don't take brunch reservations for small parties, and the slowness of the service, especially if you're sitting upstairs. All in all, I recommend it, but just know, you'll probably be waiting for a table for a bit. read more

First off, the food here was excellent. It was all fresh and delicious and I have nothing but great reviews of the food. The service however was less than sub par. We dined in during Covid-19 and were able to immediately get a table which was great. There were about 5 or 6 other tables in the restaurant taken. It took about 20 minutes or more for our server to come take our drink and food order. We opted for bottomless mimosas. It took a considerable about of time to get each drink along with water refills. For "bottomless" it felt like a chore to get another drink. Towards the end of our meal our server brought over our check without even asking if we wanted anything else or another drink. He made it seem like it was a hassle to get one more although we had empty glasses throughout most our meal. Towards the end of our meal there were plenty of tables available which was confusing as to why we felt rushed out. Overall great food, but very disappointing service. read more

Dinner at Bird was nothing but a disappointment. My friend arrived before me and thought he'd have a drink at the bar while he waited, but no one ever offered to serve him. Upon my arrival we were sat by an awkward, seemingly stoned dude who informed us that bottles of wine were 1/2 off on Tuesday nights. Wonderful! We ordered a bubbly rose, and when he opened it, it exploded all over the place, including all over my friend's briefcase. Rather than a true apology, excuses were made. Next came food. I ordered the fried chicken, hoping it was a safe bet, and my friend got the mussels the server raved about- BAD idea. My meal was unimpressive- the breading was a bit burned/overdone in some some places and soggy in others, but the meat of chicken itself was good. The accompanying collard greens and mashed potatoes were bland. The mussels were really problematic. I don't think they were cooked through, as the shells were hardly opened. They cracked and broke as my friend tried to get the rubbery, fishy, small mussels out. I tried one and literally spit it out for fear of getting sick. My buddy ultimately quit his meal and ate the rest of mine. When stoned server dude came back around and asked how things were, I nicely but honestly told him we were unhappy and he got all offended and said something like, "well I'm not the one back there cooking, but I'll tell them." Dude, you asked, I told you. When we got the bill we were given a card for a free dessert if we returned, but we will not. In addition to the bad food and poor service, the atmosphere wasn't even special and parking is a challenge. I don't know why this particular location can't get a decent restaurant with staying power as neighborhood certainly supports worthy establishments, but this one is not. I would bet that Bird will soon be flying south as it's predecessors have. read more

The first time I went I got the sage fried chicken and seriously was SO happy from the moment I took the first crunchy/juicy bite to the very end of my meal. The mashed potatoes were phenomenal as well!!! I went back again for breakfast and got the sage fried chicken Benedict and was not disappointed!!!! My friend also got the chicken salad sandwich and LOVED it! My date and I went here for a hangover brunch and were pretty underwhelmed. That's saying a lot, considering I'll eat virtually anything after a night of drinking... We split three dishes: the quiche of the day, cornmeal pancakes with pulled pork, and the chicken and waffles (as recommended by our waitress). The quiche was pretty good in taste, and was probably the highlight for us. The fried chicken was definitely under seasoned, and the waffles tasted like someone toasted some Eggos. The pulled pork with cornmeal pancakes just didn't do it for me... and the portion size was huge. All three dishes were lukewarm, which certainly didn't make things better. The worst part was probably the service. My date had to ask another table's waiter to get coffee since our waitress never asked us if we wanted anything to drink. The coffee wasn't very hot, which seems to be a trend with all food items here. Since this place is pretty new, all the staff members seemed to be clueless about recommendations on the menu. The ambience is nice, but I would have preferred an umbrella or two on the patio. The sun was blaring into my eyes, which isn't great when you're dealing with a hangover :-( A few of the other customers seemed like they were struggling with the sun as well.
