My husband found this place through fellow yelpers that he's friends with. Located in Niu Valley by Jack in the box and if you can remember it was times market, Swiss house, and Asia cafe hot pot place. The food is a little pricey but tasty. We had pulehu rib eye steak with grilled onions and hamakua mushrooms. Also we has pork belly bar. The bao was and fresh seemed well and the pork belly was sticking outside the buns. Came with pickled onions. The rib eye was seasoned well and tender. But the only thing was the temperature of the steak was a little cold. But other than that said was good. We also had Kim chee instead of rice and Mac salad. Then the server Mary gave us complimentary dessert pumpkin crunch mochi. That was good too. To me this place had a atmosphere like a sports bar pupus on their menu but there is dishes like Loco moco, salads, etc. Support them if in the east side. GRINDS YOU DONT WANT TO MISS when visiting Hawaii. Grew up here and when I'm home I refuse to eat anywhere but local and owned local. This ono spot is also an ohana spot. The food is delicious, try their main two or three entrees as a plate. I did the garlic shrimp and guava fried chicken, literally after the Koko Head stairs hike it totally hit the spot. And I got fries cause if you gonna go in you might as well go all in, their pau hana (aka happy hour) specials are too. Coming back and bringing friends - you should too. The food was sub par. Chicken seemed too sweet and too many fried things options and not enough fresh options. The service was horrible and not trained to the level of a basic diner server. The wait for the food took forever. The best thing about it was the live music and the bathroom. It was overall absolutely a let down. If they had better tasting food that was unique and showed quality, along with a wait staff that was moving with a sense of urgency it would be a start in the right direction. The manager was definitely moving with urgency and he looked overwhelmed but well meaning. I feel bad for him and feel bad for leaving a two star but it has to be given since the food and service need to step up. Will update the stars for sure if they improve. We will definitely give it another try soon in order to give an update. read more

Most pleasant experience first try from friend's recommendations. Traffic was so bad so we decided to try this place on our way home. Food was surprisingly awesome, happened during their pupu hours (4-6pm). Waitress was extremely friendly and helpful, explained in detail on all questions we have. We ordered guava bbq fried chicken, smoked bbq chicken chopped salad, Korean side dish trio, lilikoi butter mochi. Enjoyed live music at 6:30, loved it. A new eatery on the East side of Oahu? The buzz was that Beastside had opened up a new sit down location in the old Cafe Asia spot. This is in the same shopping center with Jack in the box in Niu Valley. We were greeted an seated immediately in their nice clean and spacious dining room. Our server came and took our drink orders then returned for our food orders. We ordered the pastele lumpia, guava BBQ fried chicken and the garlic umami shrimp. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for our order to arrive and then our main entrees arrived before the appetizer of lumpia. The lumpia then arrived as we were almost finished with our entrees. All entrees come with choice of macaroni salad, pickled onions or kim chee. pastele lumpia - Portion size was satisfactory, texture was crispy but they covered it with some type of ranch dressing which I thought overwhelmed it. garlic umami shrimp - These are good size shrimp that are marinated, coated and deep fried. Taste was good and texture nice since the shell was crisp and easily eaten. White rice was undercooked and hard. guava BBQ fried chicken - There was no hint of guava at all. Portion size was very good but many of the pieces were burnt dry and black. Note that if you look at other diner photos of this same dish, the chicken is cooked to golden brown and has some type of glaze over it. It was not served like this for my order. White rice was undercooked and hard. The macaroni salad as other commented was wet and soggy. Service was fast and friendly but sadly due to the shortcomings of the food, we may wait for awhile before we visit again. read more

You have to try this place, the food was delicious. I had the garlic shrimp and Mac salad, both were delicious and flavorful. My husband had the stew nachos, very flavorful, chips were crunchy and there was lots of flavors going on. I feel bad giving one star but the severe food poisoning was terrifying. We ordered the garlic shrimp, pork buns, and chicken salad. We thought the food was great but about 24 hours later I felt like passing out at work and my elderly mother had really bad GI symptoms, exhaustion, and just felt really sick. I had a fever, chills, fatigue, nausea, and this was the last meal we shared together. I see another review from a week ago saying they had food poisoning from here too (maybe they went the same time as us?) The other red flag here was all of our waters had stuff floating in the cups. It looked like scum. I had our server replace my water and all she said was "hmm" and got me a new cup of water. I love supporting our local businesses and wish Beastside Kitchen all the best but we will not be returning. read more

We ordered takeout and got the guava fried chicken, the garlic shrimp plate, and the pork belly bao. Everything was fantastic. I was impressed with how aggressively everything was seasoned. Not exactly a ton of subtlety but it punches you in the mouth with strong delicious bold flavors and I think that's how a local plate lunch style joint should be. I would totally recommend Beastside for lunch and only during their lunch hours only. Love their fried shrimp plate and fries! I only say during lunch, because at dinner they do not serve these dishes the same way. Instead of plate lunch style, it's opted for a family style setting where you're only getting the main protein. Doesn't come with the mac salad, rice, or pickled onion. I'm a chronic rice eater at every meal so it was hard to eat all these salty dishes without any sides such as rice or Mac salad. However, they do host live performances for dinner. I would recommend going at dinner if you have a large group where you can split everything. Went there a couple of weeks ago and had lunch ordered a chicken salad and had the pork belly chowder. Awesome! Went again for dinner a couple of nights ago and had the smoked pork belly plate and the garlic bbq chicken. Some parts of the pork belly was tough and needed to be cut with a knife. Chicken pieces had more skin than meat and not enough sauce over it. Should have done the salad instead. They have an awesome lilikoi dressing! read more
