Hard to even give this place 1 star. We ordered Croissant Eggs Benedict, Steak and Eggs, and side of French Toast. Really wanted to give this place a try despite the bad reviews, but we should have just taken the hint and not ordered this. Zero flavor to any of it. Potatoes were hard. Croissant even more hard... disgraceful. Steak... I've had better at Waffle House which is such a shame. It's truly hard to believe this was "farm to table". Do yourself a favor and save yourself the money and time. Extremely overpriced considering what you get. I couldn't even take a picture before it made itself to the trash can. We made reservations for a large party on Mother's Day, there were two menu options, brunch or lunch. Drinks took over than hour, my sons soda never came. The food took another hour and after ordering my son's meal we were told they could not offer what was previously discussed. The server told us last Mother's Day was "worst" which I don't understand, they should've planned to have the appropriate staff since it seems to be expected. I went with a group of 7 and when we paid waiter (she brought scanner where we enter credit card) she did not tell us gratuity was included in total so we all ended up paying her $20 tips lol on top of that the French toast was not great. I told her no drizzle and berries and she brought me it with berries and no syrup on side. We still had a great time but would not return. I just want to say that I am so thankful that Astor came through for me and my family to help us celebrate my son's 21st birthday. We had a wonderful experience. The food was phenominal. The staff was great. Love how the owner checked in on us and was out talking to the other guests as well. The decor is beautiful. The jazz player was such a nice touch. Not only that, but the owner, Casey, personally introduced himself and that made us feel sooo welcomed, great hospitality! The food was such a good fusion of everything that they represent and would be coming here solely for the food, BUT the drinks were definitely a show stopper. All 10 of us got the penniless mimosas that they serve at brunch (plus a few more drinks we just had to try) I wish I remembered our server but she was so quick and friendly with our service, she definitely was the cherry on top of everything. I attended a wine pairing dinner on 5/31-a taste of Spain. Second visit. Reservations made and sat quickly. Ask if we wanted a beverage before the event started, ask for the wine list and was told no list. Ask what type of wine we might like, we thought he would have brought us some options-nope 4 glasses of retail 10.99 cab for $12:50 a glass. Menus for tasting set Salad to start- it was suppose to be a smoke salmon salad. Not under/overstating- two flakes of smoke salmon on a bread plate of greens served with a plastic container of Balsamic dressing. The calamari app was ok, good sauce Entree was the killer- wife ordered paella chef said it was first time he had made-you could tell. It was served cold and fishy tasting- we took 2 bites and couldn't eat any more I ordered oxtail, lots of bones pieces in it. Both entrees not good. When chef visited the table we told him it wasn't good, but didn't listen. Waiter saw we didn't eat it and made no attempt to fix. We spent $260 for 4 people and we had to stopped at McDonald's on the way home To eat dinner. Staff was a bunch of kids who were clueless on the food or wine. The Republic sales rep that talked about the wines did a great job. Will never go back- hate being ripped off. Better options out there. So this was my second time here. We were trying to support BLK biz. On top of that try something new in the area. The first time me and my wife ordered Prawns and were served regular shrimp instead. The owner came and said he was sorry but they were out at the moment. Fast forward to now and our second visit. We tried ordering Calamari for app and was told they were out of. I ordered wings and grits. Wings were bland and not something I would pay $18 for. My wife ordered the pork chop and it was razor thin. Most places you get two when they are that small. We tried the oysters fried and that was a mess too. They were badly fried and too pricey for the taste and presentation. Would not ever come back here again. read more

I just read the owner's reply to this review and nothing he writes is true. I did not ask for or eat anything else. I did not insult anybody. The worst part of this place is the owner. After being served an appetizer which included inedible and tasteless items, I told the waiter that the food was not good. At first the waiter, and who I think was a manager, was friendly and understanding, but then ..... A man comes over, doesn't introduce himself, just ask me how I'm doing. I say ok and he then ask me why I'm not doing fantastic. I say it's because I've been served inedible and tasteless food. The greens it's served on are wilted. The jerky is so hard, I can't even chew it, the tiny slices of cured meat has no taste and the bobotie looks and taste like dry cornbread. I had also ordered a second appetizer plate, but never touched any of the items on it. When I mention the awful bobotie, I'm told I have to pay for the meal. By then I understood that I was talking to the owner and the way he spoke to me seemed off. I say ok, and say that if I'm paying for it, they have to bring it back out. They bring it back, but now it has changed slightly. The jerky is substituted with another jerky, lighter in color and it at least look chewable and it's served on fresh looking greens. I do not touch it. The owner also stated that I had been there before. That is not true, this was my first time there. By now the manager and the owner have started taking pictures and filming us. When I was told I had to pay, I understood what kind of person I was dealing with and did not say anything more. I paid the bill. The owner followed us out in the parking lot and continued to film us as we drove away. To the owner: Thank you for reminding me and my daughter that little, insignificant men like you exist and I do hope that my $51 gives you great pleasure in life. If I could leave a ZERO or NEGATIVE star review, you can be certain I would have. It was our first and DEFINITELY LAST TIME giving this restaurant + owner our business. He will most likely reply to my review in a condescending way with a bad attitude just like all his other negative reviews. As well as accuse me of lying so I have attached a picture. We came here to celebrate my niece's baptism with our entire family. It was a party of 22 for JENNIFER, for outdoor seating. (The owner will claim he gives his guest his best service but also does not remember the name of a big party reservation from the same day.) The weather was nice but also had some bits of strong wind. As I was one of the first to arrive with a few other family members, we were escorted to our table that was set up halfway underneath a sunshade sail and the other half under a few opened patio umbrellas. Within minutes of sitting down and reviewing our menu, one of the patio umbrellas catches a gust of wind and separates into the bottom base half and the top umbrella shade half and FALLS OVER ONTO my 6 year old daughter and 7 year old niece. As my cousin and I stand up from our chairs to try and catch the umbrella from going any lower and smushing the children, an umbrella point STABS MY NIECE IN HER FACE, MILLIMETERS FROM HER EYEBALL. My niece begins to cry from the INJURY TO HER FACE / EYE. As we are still holding the umbrella half up and getting the children to move out from underneath the area, the owner shows up and grabs the broken umbrella half that flew off and begins to close it and begins saying something about the wind. He never ONCE asked if everyone was ok or if anyone had gotten hurt. He continued to walk around our table area closing all patio umbrellas and laying them down blaming the wind. After getting them all closed, still NO APOLOGY or concern for what had happened to the child. He seemed to only care about closing all of the umbrellas and making it seemed like nothing had happened before proceeding back inside. The next waitress we see, we ask for a bag of ice to put on the child's injury and even then no employee seemed to be aware or concerned about what had just ensued. We were appalled by the lack of care and concern given by the staff and owner at that time. While comforting my niece and icing her injured eye, the rest of my family arrived. We decided to still give this business a try as it was a celebration and the entire family was already there. While waiting for our food to come out, the sun was starting to shine on those of us who were sitting under the previously opened umbrellas. As we waited for anyone from the staff to come back to our table so that we could ask about how we could get some shade on that end, no one came for awhile. My cousins decided to figure out what happened with the umbrella shade and opened 2 that were "anchored" (bungee corded to the patio railing) to relieve us of the beaming sun. He stood another umbrella up that was previously laid down on its side by the owner, and quickly realized that some of the umbrella shade top halves were put onto the incorrect base stands and therefore were not secured to each other when we were initially seated underneath the opened umbrella shades. I find it EXTREMELY UNSAFE that the owner and/or his staff never even checked the security of their patio equipment while setting it up before seating a table underneath it. The entire time we did not complain or bring up the incident again as we were not looking for a discount or any type of compensation towards our meal. After we had our meal and took care of the check, we wanted to let the owner know that we were unhappy about how the situation was handled. We asked to speak to the person in charge. The owner returns and speaks ONLY in regards to his food, STILL NO APOLOGY OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of the injury that took place due to his equipment and negligence. We pulled him aside to speak to the parents of my 7 year old niece who got injured, and he kept claiming that he was the one to "catch the umbrella" as it flew over, yet THE CHILD WAS POKED IN THE EYE. He was in denial about not showing any care, concern, or customer service as well. He claimed to have checked on my niece after the injury happened which was a lie because after closing the umbrellas to save his own a*s, he went back inside the restaurant and was not seen again until we requested to speak with him. Every sentence we tried to speak was rudely cut off by him being truly in denial. He claims we were rude and yelling at him and his staff which is untrue. The only time voices were raised was when he decided to continually cut us off and not care what we had to say. He basically left the conversation by saying he "didn't know what to say and had to go" only to disappear back into the restaurant again. The food was barely mediocre, waitstaff isn't great, and owner is HORRENDOUS. read more

Chef Casey is so welcoming and provided us with a rare experience of fine dining, superb cuisine and affordability. I had the Bloody Mary and it was smooth with just the right spice and touch olive and lemon juice. I thought it was cool that the first one was $16 but the 5 after were a Penny each. They had Mango Cart on tap too and that is one of our favorite beers. But the food. The food was top notch. Belgian waffle with a hint of sugar in the batter and golden wrapped around thick crispy bacon layered on a hunk of crispy fried chicken. Then a delicate fried egg over easy and chipotle sauce for a touch of kick on the tongue was madness. I even dipped a couple of bites in the syrup which I believe is homemade. Perfectly seasoned red potatoes on the side and a touch of black grapes and pineapple put this plate over the top. We even snuck into the hooka lounge for a surveillance to see what we need to return to for an evening experience. Welcome home. We will be back. Every Houstonian should go here. read more

I came here for brunch with the family and had a great vibe walking in. They had a DJ playing some amazing music of all kinds old school and new! The place was pretty open and had lots of seating, also had some great outdoor patio seating as well. The owner you could see was walking around greeting everyone and seems like a great guy! The waitress was on point with bringing out our mimosas as we finished each one! There were lots of different kinds mimosa's each round which we loved. Everyone loved their food, I got the Croissant Benedict with potatoes and fruit. The hollandaise sauce was delicious there croissant with avocado and ham was cooked perfectly. The only thing I would say is my egg was overcooked so I will know next time to ask for how I like it cooked. The potatoes were seasoned to perfection. WOW! We had a great dining experience last night. The restaurant has a very nice upscale yet welcoming feel and you can actually have a conversation without having to shout. The patio looks very nice as well but it was raining. We were a little surprised it wasn't more crowded on a Saturday night but the rain and holiday season might have been a factor. Appetizers of peri peri shrimp and lobster soup. Beef espetada and grilled salmon for dinner and a delicious trio of seis leches cake, peppermint crisp and chocolate indulgence. The flavors and presentation were all excellent. Chef Casey came to our table and he is an absolute delight to talk to. I can't believe it took us so long to try this amazing restaurant! NOTE this draft was from last fall. I forgot to post it so I'm posting it now! Before I write my review, I would like to make sure this is noted. I came here for breakfast with my friends, so we got a traditional American breakfast rather than the South African food. I'm also not qualified to review South African food, but I will say, it looked amazing when I saw others eating it. I am POSITIVE it's delicious. Now I'm gonna section this the same way I section all of my reviews - environment, staff, drinks, food, and prices. Environment - It was crowded when we went, but that's okay, it was a busy brunch time and they sat us down immediately. The interior looked very classy and nice but going on a nice day, we decided to sit outside. The patio was simple and they seemed to have a DJ or something outside. Right next to us was also a VIP section that looked very nice, so if you go, aim for that spot! Staff - They informed everyone that there was very little staff that day so service took absolutely forever. Our server was Jay, who also informed us that he was the bartender, so he was very busy. We did wait two hours for our food and normally that would knock my rating down really quickly, but I understood that they were busy and barely had any workers. I would suggest going on a day and time that doesn't seem too busy. While were waiting for our food, Jay made sure to bring us drinks, ask if there was anything we needed, and apologize to us for the wait. He was an AWESOME server and kept his positive attitude when it was definitely very stressful. Not only that, but a lady and a man who I'm assuming are either the owners or the managers came to check on us a few times and they were very nice and apologetic. Drinks - Jay did an amazing job with our drinks. Those $1 mimosas? Do it. The mystery mimosas were AWESOME and Jay seemed to know exactly what we would enjoy and put lots of thought into our drinks. If I could afford to hire this guy as my personal bartender, I would. He also brought us the drinks at just the right time, so while we were waiting for our food we were occupied by our drinks. It was very well thought out. Food - After waiting for what felt like forever, I was expecting cold food that was just thrown together. Nope! It was warm, fresh, and delicious. I got the Eggs Benedict and I have NEVER had a better eggs Benedict in my life. I do also want to give a shout out to those potatoes - soft, seasoned perfectly, and crispy on the outside. I was so full when I was almost done with my plate but finished it anyways because it tasted so good. My friends were very pleased with their meals as well. It was definitely worth the wait. Prices - Everything aside from the breakfast/brunch dishes seemed pretty expensive, but also very worth it. If you want to spend a bunch of money and have a delicious feast, come here. The price for the mimosas was INCREDIBLE for a brunch place. Overall, great place to go to. I highly recommend it and if I'm ever in town again, this is where I'm going. Sent via email TWICE to your corporate email and no one bothered to respond: Visited your establishment for the first time today (Mothers Day, May 14, 2023) after eagerly looking forward to a long-awaited visit.  To say I was very disappointed is an understatement.  While I understand Sunday was likely one of the BUSIEST days for restaurants EVERYWHERE, I can definitely understand compromise.  The food was terrible.  Three of us (including my 86 yo Mom) chose the chicken and waffles.  The waffle had to be the absolute worst I've ever attempted to eat.  There is a FAST FOOD chain in my neighborhood that serves waffles that are softer and more palatable than what was served to us today.  It really gave off a FROZEN belgium waffle vibe but I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt in hoping that you wouldn't do such a thing on an important day like today.  If so, shame on you. I emailed you twice (second time earlier today) to bring this to you first privately rather than on public platforms because I believe everyone makes mistakes or perhaps has the occasional bad day.  The weather was bad, perhaps you had staff that called in, I'm not certain.  Had it not been for the company of my family (we managed to have a good time in spite of the money spent for the poor quality of food received - did I mention the wings were not completely done and blood was running from the bone?  Yep, you betcha). Regardless, no one even bothered to respond so I will publicly request that you make whatever corrections are necessary to retain the high ratings and reviews that (I hope) you've earned because of better quality food served to other customers.  I would also like some sort of response. You definitely missed the mark Sunday and although I did not have to pay for my brunch, I feel you robbed my son of his hard earned money and that is just simply not cool.  Did I mention we were a party of 10 with two children?  There were two checks and combined you were paid more than $500 including beverages and tip for food most of us couldnt even eat and yet, you remain silent in responding.   Thanks to you, this was a Mother's Day we'll never forget and not in a good way. Went here during lunch time. The oxtails were sooo good. It came out with some whole oxtails together with the gravy. This was so good and the meal tasted light and fresh. It didn't feel heavy. My boyfriend got the Gugulethu Beef Espetada and he said it was delicious. It was Chargrilled and Beef was perfectly medium and tender. The portions were generous for each dish. We also tried the beef empanadas and we loved them and the sauce it came with. We sat on their nice patio. It was a very nice setting and perfect weather to enjoy the day with my cute Mystery Mimosa. So light and like a buttery taste. It reminds of eating something at home as a kid. I asked for it toasted. I order a side of fries, fried perfectly, the parm cheese topping, and I dipped some in the chimichurri sauce. Its a very cute small mom & pop joint, so I don't recommend for groups of 5+, unless you call ahead to see they can accommodate. Its cute for a 2-3 girls brunch, date night. So my cousin and I have been here quite a few times and it's honestly a crime that I'm not writing my review until now. The first few times we came for brunch and although we like to try different places, this is the only restaurant we have returned to (mostly so we could work our way through the very diverse menu). Brunch has always been fantastic, with delicious penny Bellinis or mimosas. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes but you must try the waffle with the pear (I think?) sugar glaze! I'm so used to syrup or an over load of fruit, and this simple and sweet waffle is just so lovely to add to any savory breakfast. There's a variety of Benedict's and my salmon Benedict came with a cauliflower mash that very creamy and buttery. This was not a pairing I was familiar with, but will excitedly eat again. We just had lunch today and were served promptly and by our very friendly and knowledgeable waiter Brett. Definitely recommend trying the South African wines as well! We ordered the beef and chicken empanadas and they are also a must try!! The pastry is crisp and flaky, and the insides were perfectly cooked. Seriously could eat a whole meal of just these. The Gugulethu (really trying with the spelling) was so fun to get because of the presentation and went well with the thick fries. You'd think I was done, but having loved the mint cake we had for dessert on one of our brunch days, we ended with the chocolate temptations cake and I have no idea what is the top layer, but again, another awesome flavor combination. If you've gotten this far, just go. Be adventurous and trust that this chef and his staff truly know what they are doing. read more
