Watch out for the bait & switch on pricing. I called told the person who answered that I had a clog in my kitchen drain, and did their $89 special apply to my area (north of Austin proper) and was told that yes it did. When the techs arrived they didn't even bend down to look under the counter before saying the $89 only applied to the main line and my clog was in a branch line so it would be $386!!! Thats over 4 times as much! Since I badly needed the work done I told them to get the job done but that I didn't appreciate the bait & switch. The guy who didn't have a uniform shirt on then got an attitude, and then argued with my wife the whole time going forward. Once they got the drain to flow they put the camera down the line to show the build up causing the issue, and to add insult to injury said they could use their cutter and clean the line which would normally be over $600 but today could do it for half price. Sorry, if you can do it for half price one day you can do it any day for that price. They got the job done, but the shifty pricing behavior will keep me from doing business with these people again! read more

Four years in on a new Carrier 3 ton AC system install (10 yr warranty), and the dual motor compressor cap goes out. They (ARS Austin) charged me: $89 trip charge $300 labor $0 for part (I have a feeling I paid for the part anyway) Why $89 for trip on your own warranty repair evolution? Why $300 labor for 20 min of work? $1000/hr???? WTF? Stay away from ARS. I would rather do all work myself, and blow off the warranty altogether. I am already paying on a $12K loan as it is. I am getting another 3 ton Carrier system from another local company (same as what I have, but for the other end of the house, and only paying $5800, with 10 yr warranty). Win-Win. BTW, ARS caused $200 worth of damage to my bathroom four years ago when they blew out the drain trap during the install when they didn't block it off correctly. The website says emergency services. Had a problem Sunday evening. I do the online chat ask if they have some one that could come out on a Sunday evening. Online chat ask me name, address, number, email and tells me some one will call me. Lady calls, I first ask "do y'all have people to come out in a Sunday evening" She states she needs all my info, all the same info I just gave the online chat that had this person call me. At the same time my phone is tell me I have a call coming in from ARS. Really, I don't need 2 of y'all calling. The lady tells me they can have someone out on July 13th, that is 17 days out. I tell her never mind delete all my info. I called the other ARS number that was calling me to see if I could get better service. I ask this second lady if someone would be able to come out tonight. Run, do not, I mean DO NOT use ARS. We have been using ARS since we moved to Austin over 20 years ago, we had purchased HVAC, furnace, plumbing services from them and the service has gone from great (22 years ago) to absolutely horrible. We purchased our HVAC from ARS 11 years ago. At that time, they sold us a unit with lifetime limited warranty at an additional cost of $3,000 extra, which stated that as long as we own the unit and stay in the same house and any replacement parts are under warranted for the owner's lifetime, and we pay only the labor cost. The last couple days, our air conditioner has been running non-stop, so we called ARS to come out and take a look. The service person said it was the recuperative coil and there is a chance it is leaking fluid. His suggestion was to add more fluids, at a quote of $600-$2,000 (because he doesn't know how much it needs), but if there is a leak, we will need to replace the unit. We mentioned the warranty and he said he had never heard of it nor do the office staff have any information. So we showed them the warranty paperwork and they are refusing to honor it. Had we known that they are not good with what they sold, we would not have paid the extra! We had then called multiple HVAC companies and were told the installation was poorly done and that the unit they sold us were subpar. ARS Installed a hotwater heater in my home a little over a year ago. The water heater failed and flooded my home. I reciently called them after the adjuster assessed the damage. The repairman said that they knew the part was subject to fail but installed it anyway because it is what came with the water heater. They charged me 439.00 to install a 2 inch pipe on the water heater which would have stopped the problem from occuring in the first place. They failed to provide an itemized recipt. The worst part was that they have a service contract that is 19.00 per month and there was absolutely nothing that was discounted of of the 10 minute repair job that ruined floors in several rooms of my home. Service was great, But the cost was $678.00 which included tax. Granted this was a call for A/C repair on Memorial Day. I did expect to pay extra for the service call. But after I looked up the part that was replaced roughly $41.00 from a Lennox dealer I felt that I was taken advantage of. Woke up on a Sunday morning and found sewage backed up into my bathtubs! After calling the contractor assigned by my home warranty, and finding out that they didn't even work on Sundays, we called a number of plumbing companies. The one that responded within MINUTES was ARS Rescue Rooter of Howard Lane in Austin! Within 30 to 40 minutes, Pedro arrived and started to clear the blockage in our sewer line. Once the line was clear, he ran a camera through the line to be sure there were no breaks in the actual pipes; there weren't any. Pedro was pleasant, knowledgeable and proficient in clearing the blockage. The charge was reasonable--especially on a Sunday--BELOW the amount authorized by my home warranty company! I called because our AC wasn't cooling like it should. ARS came out for a diagnostic fee of just under $100 and stated my coil needed to be replaced but that it would make more sense to replace the entire unit. We asked for only the coil be replaced. The technician couldn't get anyone to return his call from their office after sitting at our house and trying for a few hours. He finally left and said he would call me back that evening with a price and if they had it in stock and when they could put the new coil in. No one called back. We continued to call speaking to numerous people who said they would have to get back with me. That was 2 weeks ago. Still haven't heard a peep from anyone at ARS. I literally am blown away at the blatant lack of any level of customer service or follow up! I even asked for a refund of the service fee since they wouldn't fix the AC or return any calls. Still haven't heard from them. We have since found another company who was wonderful. We will not use ARS again. read more

We had an issue with our AC during a very hot summer and I was looking for same-day service. ARS was the only company that offered the same-day service. They came fast, quickly figured out what the issue was, and fixed it. Of course, it was a big capacitor that started the AC compressor (a very common issue). I paid about $280 for this. If I replaced the capacitor myself, it would cost me about $30, but the fast and professional service is worth paying some extra. As far as I know, all companies charge about $250 for the capacitor replacement. read more

Went to Home Depot, they set up ARS. I called and scheduled a same day appointment. Guy came out, we wanted it same day. But since it had been 22 years since our last water heater, we had a lot of code requirements that needed to be done. Our pressure was high, so we had to have PRV installed at the street and an expansion tank, a drain line and vents in water heater closet. We were happy with the service we received and the installation was great. They actually came an hour early. The installation was neat, organized, clean, and thorough. They explained everything to us, like what to expect with all the updated code requirements and a new water heater. Plus we have a Home Depot warranty on top of the Rheem warranty. We are satisfied with what we paid...we paid for their experience and piece of mind. If a gas water heater is installed incorrectly, it can be deadly. We would recommend them and Home Depot. Totally process was 2 days. They took care of permit and inspection request with the city. read more

Very unprofessional no customer service at all. Called schedule appt. which was 2 weeks out, I called the day before to confirm appt. since i had not heard from them, rep verified scheduled for the next day. On the day of appt. window time 8am-12. Called to follow up at 10am was told will have to contact dispatch for eta. and someone will give me a call back. No call back...it is now 12noon appt. time. I called again was told the same information need to contact dispatch. At his point I ask for a supervisor or manager. Spoke with team lead on duty and he said he would check into it, came back to the line and said the area that I live in they do not come out and service on weekends. I was Livid, I had changed my schedule for this appt and it was also for my tenant so that made it an inconvenience for them as well. I ask why did they schedule the appt if you do not work this area lead said he do not know they shouldn't have. I ask to speak with someone at the office because they said all calls are through a call center. He said that he could reschedule me and I said since this was an inconvenience what are they going to do to compensate...I ask for the service to be discounted, he said it is no way they could do that, so I then ask for someone higher over him and I would like to speak with someone at local office. He said Customer service was Mon-Fri I then disconnected the call. I tried to contact the company several times and could not get anyone. Today Aug 27. I get a call at 8am from someone name Stacy who was very rude stating she was calling about my appt. I then said what appt? I do not have an appt. She said OK and hung up. ARS made a disastrous situation as good as possible. My AC system went out on Thursday and I came home to it being 90 degrees in my house (and a 108 outside). Jose came out that evening, but despite trying for an hour he couldn't get it to work. It was fried (it was 17 years old). Next morning at 9:00 Alex was there helping me through my next steps and giving me options. I opted for a non-name brand system to save some money and he was able to arrange financing for the $12K cost with 0% interest and no payments for 12 months which made it much less stressful to pay for. Best of all Miguel and his partner were there Sunday morning with the new system. It took almost 7 hours to install, but they let me know what was happening, cleaned up completely, and even gave me a chance to get my dogs out to potty half way through. Plus, it turned out I got the name brand Carrier system for the price they had quoted me for the off brand! Everyone was really nice to work with, responsive, and helpful and my house is cooling down fast with the new system. It was a really good experience in the midst of a stressful situation. read more

This is an update to my review from a couple of months ago. We have our unit, it's working great. Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I was not given a receipt for our purchase. I've called about 6 times over the past 8 weeks and even used that chat option online. Every time, I was assured I would receive a receipt, but it has not happened. It's 5:21pm, I spoke with Ebony ( very polite and wanting to be helpful) and she sent me the invoice, but it does not show that we paid. We need that receipt to get the $700 gift card from Home Depot that we were offered. We also need the receipt to file for a tax credit next year. I'm still on the line after 26 minutes and she can not get a number for the accounting office. She finally was able to give me a number for the Austin office. I called to try to leave a message for the accounting office, but it just rings endlessly. Of course, I will try to call again on Monday. This is truly a shoddy customer service experience. I have a couple of friends who need to buy a new HVAC system. Sadly, I can NOT recommend ARS Austin. read more

Stay away from ARS!! ARS installed the wrong water heater model, they installed a way cheaper and the wrong size water heater and will not replace it with the water heater we paid for and won't even return our calls. We agreed to pay them $2200 to install a high end water heater at our house, we offered to go to Lowes to buy the water heater we wanted and have them install it, but the ARS salesman said he called Lowes and they don't have the model we want. My wife frustrated told the salesman that we just took the picture at Lowes the night before. So my wife told the salesman that she will just go buy it and have them install the one we want. The salesman then said to my wife "I called our warehouse and we have the exact model in our warehouse, and if you buy it from us you will also save some money over what Lowes charges", we agreed for them to install their water heater which kind you they said was the exact same model we wanted. The ARS salesman had a picture of the water heater we wanted so there should be no mistake! I get home from work and find they installed a water heater that is $250 cheaper than the model we agreed on and not only that, it's shorter than the model we told ARS to install! So now we have to hire an electrician to extend the power cable because it won't reach the new water heater!! WE ARE NOT HAPPY! Bait and switch! We have called them almost every day since this water heater was installed and they won't return our calls! STAY AWAY FROM ARS! They will install whatever they want regardless what they told you and will not make it right after you discover you were swindled. We went ahead and bought the water heater they told us was not in stock at Lowes! It was the same water heater we took a picture of and handed over to the ARS salesman! The call log on my cellphone confirms the date and time of the call to ARS. We cancelled our plans for the evening so that we could meet the representative. The representative never arrived. One again my daughter had plumbing issues. Last time ARS came out the guy was super nice and even cleaned out my daughters shower full of poop. He warned her that she needed a repair the pipe was caving in. We had to call them this week, the same guy came out used his camera and said most of the pipe had been replaced except about 2 feet that goes into the cities pipe. He had his boss give my daughter an estimate to replace the pipe and said the price would start at $2,500, so we held our breath. The estimate was exactly $2,500 and my daughter gave written permission, but had not paid. Today she called to give them 50% up front and guess what, the gal she spoke to said the repair crew had just finished fixing it. WOW we certainly didn't expect them to do the job before getting any money. I also wrote a review about 6mo.ago for them as my daughter also needed a new heater/air unit. They came in in one day made no mess installed the heater unit in the attic, air unit in the yard, put in a solar fan in the roof, put in a reflective shield in the attic and gave her a nest thermostat & smoke/ carbon monoxide detector. My kitchen drain stopped, I saw the coupon for $89 drain clearing on the ARS website. I verified the charge with the CSR. I also asked the CSR if the plumber could connect my water filter to the faucet, she said, "sure." However, when the plumber arrived, he had no idea why he was at my home. When I told him it was a plugged kitchen drain he said it would be $280 and he would apply the $50 coupon. He explained that the $89 was for main drain only. I'm not a plumber and was very upset by this bait and switch. He also could not connect the water filter. He asked what was done last time the drain was plugged. When I called to make the appointment, there should have been an explanation., since I told the CSR it was a kitchen drain. At the same time I made the plumbing appointment, I also had made an appt for an a/c check for $69. I immediately called and canceled as I'm sure it would have been $169, the CSR hung on me without confirming the cancellation. I agreed to pay the $280 since he was here. The plumber said, "Oh, I gave you $82.70 discount. Since he quoted $280-$50 credit when I told him it should be $89, I assumed it was $280.00-$50.00-$82.75. NO another bait and switch. It wasn't until he left that I realized he charged me $332.72-$83.75 plus another hidden charge of $15 for truck operating supplies not mentioned on the website, by the plumber or by the CSR. BEWARE of doing any business with ARS! They are untrustworthy and have no integrity! In 2019 they installed a Carrier A/C unit in my 1600 s/f home, they charged me $14,000. I have a ten year warranty on the parts. For some reason last year the condenser was no longer working, they came out to replace it. To get them to come out here was a monumental task! The part was free, but the labor which was 45 minutes cost $600!!! To make matters worse the part was not put in correctly, because of the poor installation of that condenser, it caused damage to my a/c unit. Now I have to get a whole new air carrier. The new carrier with install is going to cost me $4200. Needless to say I am not going with ARS for this. They are dishonest, they are nothing but crooks! I will NEVER do any business with ARS. Scheduled an appointment, was given a "window" of time, waited 4 hrs patiently, when the "window" was up, no show, no call, had to go on with my day. During a renovation of a bathroom, my contractor recommended I get in touch with a plumber because there were some roots around the drain, and he wanted to make sure there wasn't root inclusion in the drain pipe. Called ARS and made an appointment. Said they would come 10AM-2PM, and call 30 mins in advance. At 1:45PM, no call, so I called them, said they would get in touch with the plumber. He finally called me about 2:15PM, rescheduled for the next morning. When he came the next morning, he looked a bit at the drain, and then gave an estimate of FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS to fix the drain pipe. This was after his initial estimate of TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, but after he saw my visible shock and disgust, said he was able to tweak things down in the computer to bring it down to 15K. I didn't realize we had crack or some other hallucinogenic drug wafting through our A/C. Was so angry got another plumber to come the same day. He said there was no inclusion in the drain pipe, and that we didn't need any major work. What a ridiculous scam this place is. How are they still in business? read more

We have a leak in the front yard due to a break in the pvc pipe. After finding the source of the leak we turned the water off. Called a few plumbers and ARS was the first to come out. First thing he did was ask how old is my house and if my water heater was ever replaced? I thought that was odd because the leak has nothing to do with my water heater. Then came the real juice. 1700 for a spot repair. 6000 to replace the entire line. Are you serious? When he asked when I'd like to get the work done. Im thinking uh never? I don't even need another bid to know you're price gouging me. (I did get other bids afterward. They were 1/3 the price of ARS) I've got to say I should have listened to the not so good reviews. BAD workmanship! Untrustworthy! For air-conditioning issues, EVERY time I call or speak to someone from ARS they ask or tell me how old my AC unit is. That should be a red flag. Always trying to sell you a complete replacement. Now they say I need a new coil at the cost of $4500.00. Really? I asked another highly rated repair shop for a diagnosis who also came up with the coil problem. Difference? They only wanted $1900.00 to replace it! It's obvious that ARS is hoping you'll say, "Oh well, I may as well replace the entire unit." by giving you an outrageous quote for the repair. DON'T TRUST THEM AT ALL! You get this feeling in the pit of your stomach that, while they are out here, they are sabotaging your units somehow to break in the future. If not by plan then by shoddy workmanship on their repairs. Sheesh! I should also add that the person doing the AC diagnosis for ARS said he couldn't give me a quote for the coil and that he'd send an associate later in the day. The ARS person who showed up looked and talked like a used car salesman. Slick pitch, fast talk. He's the one who neatly worked up the insane price on the coil replacement. Like so many other posts never again will I use ARS rescue router. I got there name from Home Depot as there preferred vendor for air conditioning maintenance. Home depot you should do a better job of evaluating companies you recommend. I scheduled maintenance 3 weeks ago. In that time it has been rescheduled 3 times. Well today was going to be the day they turned up between 10 and 2. At 6.30 pm I got a call to say that because they were busy it needed to be rescheduled for a 4th time and the earliest date they had was July 12 th. Would I like to reschedule. Heck no, they did not value my time because I had been waiting all day. Guess they got paid better paying jobs than my planned scheduled maintenance. I get that it is hot and I'm sure a lot of emergencies but that is no excuse from over booking then telling me I have to wait another 3 weeks. Don't waste your time. read more

I scheduled an appointment with ARS through Home Depot. They never called to set up a time. Home Depot provided a number to call should this occur. I called after waiting 2 hours for them to call. I was shunted to a recording on Hold where I now sit waiting for an answer 30 minutes later. No one ever picked up. I recommend you avoid this plumber like the plague as you are only setting yourself up for disappointment. My folks A/C was not blowing any cold air so we called ARS. ARS was fast to respond to our needs. The technician that came out did a great job. However, the billing is absurd. I get it that people need to make money but if you google how much it cost on average to clean an AC drain line (10 min that's how long it took the technician to clean our line, 10min!!) it averages between 75-275 dollars. Those are REASONABLE prices. ARS cost us $448! $109 dollars for the diagnostic and $339 for cleaning the a/c line. I talked to the manager and he managed to give me 5% discount. Even then the price is still to high. read more
