Our drain line got clogged and flooded a nearby carpeted room over the weekend. I asked for a quote through this app, and quickly got a response. I opted to wait for the week for service, but sooner would have been an option. Subsequent messages to determine day and time of service were concise but I got the information I needed. John investigated the issue "out loud", which I appreciated - he allowed us to be a part of the process, and listened to our observations all while doing his thing. My 3 year old HVAC system decided to have issues again, but it wasn't just an air filter issue this time sadly. I called up John, and he was able to come out and run some diagnostics to try to figure out what is happening. Originally thought it was a refrigerant leak, but after hunting in the attic and outdoor unit, figured out it was a faulty valve. John was able to get the replacement part under warranty, and was able to come out 5 days later with a brand new replacement air handler valve and also found a faulty DAT sensor he found was faulty as well. About 4 hours later (included cutting and welding pipes, very labor intensive), my HVAC was back up and running again! Like always, John is such a stand-up guy. Super respectful of my home (took off shoes every time he came in), and he even helped screwed down an outdoor light that was always blowing sideways in the wind! I originally contacted John from out of state to help with an issue with my AC at my Austin home. We came back from vacation to a power outage error on our thermostat. I called Apex first thing the next morning, because we were expecting a cold snap to come in. I was surprised when the man that answered the phone responded that someone would arrive in thirty to sixty minutes! While I used to live in Austin, I have since moved and am a remote landlord, renting out the townhouse I had purchased. About a month ago there was a leak in the ceiling, so my property manager sent a competing HVAC company to investigate. They cleared the primary drain line, which solved the problem, but also said I needed a full primary drain pan and float switch replacement for upwards of $1,100. I wasn't ready to spend that amount of money without a competing quote, and luckily I found Apex. John got out to the property right away and determined that none of this was needed. Never use these guys. Their OT rate is 179.99 versus what I just got from a local competitor who has a name brand in the Austin area for 89.99 and hour. Not even worth using it...the guy was a jerk and even stated that there is no guarantee he would be able to fix it based on the parts he has. Guarantee?? That's not who I ever will do business with nor should any consumer. I understand not being able to repair it but don't show up to my house to tell me it can be repaired but - "oh, I don't have the part for it". Insane. John is very knowledgeable and gets things fixed. He's prompt. But weeks later I'm still upset over the price I was charged. I understand charging more on a weekend for service. I don't understand charging more for parts, and I was shocked by the bottom line for a dual capacitor replacement. There's a complaint on here about paying $265 for this plus refrigerant on a Sunday in 2020, and I was charged $706 just for the part replacement. A quick search online shows how inexpensive a part this is, and it didn't seem to take long to replace. As an added kicker, after assuring me the unit was now in good shape, it broke down again 3 weeks later, again on a weekend. He was nice enough to speak to me about it on the phone and luckily it seemed like it could wait until Monday - the unit was sometimes running. It turned out to be a drain needed to be cleared. I found another company to fix it and the serviceman gasped when I mentioned how much I was charged for the dual capacitor. I told them that John had also mentioned the outdoor unit could use some cleaning off and he was kind enough to do so at no extra charge to their reasonably priced service on the drain. read more
