We hired Always Local via YELP, due to good review stars, to do an annual check on our HVAC before winter. David was very prompt in answering and his fee was in-line with current rates. Alturo showed up this morning, on time, and went to work right away. We had had problems with the pan overflowing, so he cleaned the lines and inspected the system, which was installed 7 years ago. On top of that, he found other issues and then the prices started adding up. At the end it was about an $800 bill, and he still found heater issues he is looking for parts for. When I spoke with a coworker (who is a DIY guy) he told me the capacitor sells for $25 on Amazon. I looked it up online and yep, $18 - $36 delivered to my door. I was charged $275 just for that part! In looking at "Leah-Wing S." review they overcharged her the same way! We also agreed to a "warranty" for the year which I'm now hesitant about. I immediately called David and after some discussion, he did reimburse $200, and he was reasonably nice about it. I am cognizant of the cost of business, the labor, knowledge and convenience charges to hire pros to fix what I cannot. Still, $275 for a $25 part is stunning to me. I will say David was apologetic, and he did send proof of refund to me as he promised. But to say I'm now leery of everything they charged me (and still will for the furnace) is a huge understatement. Man, I need to own an HVAC business... read more

Had these guys come out to look at my HVAC that was running, but not cooling. They recommended a total unit replacement or new compressor - $3,000-12,000. Told them I'd get another opinion and sure enough, all I needed was a new capacitor (which I was told they replaced and the compressor still failed). Went through the other guys (Service Wizard), paid $400 for the repair and a new maintenance plan, plus they walked me through full maintenance and how everything worked so I could further extend the life of my unit. 24 hours later and I still haven't even gotten a quote from Always Local....think I know too much? After a day of trying to fix it myself, I caved in and found an HVAC company via Yelp and found Always Local. They were prompt with communication, gave a fair diagnostic price and reasonable window of time for repair (mind you, no AC in Texas summer... so needed someone quick). Within the early part of that window of time I was greeted by a technician who looked at my unit both indoor and outdoor, made an assessment and gave a more than fair price. Work, start to finish, was 30 minutes and I was cooling better than ever. The name of the technician escapes me at the moment but he was friendly, professional and explained everything in detail to a HVAC noob like myself. To management, this man needs a raise and a beer. We had air conditioning break at both of our rental properties in two successive weekends; our normal guy was out of town; so we tried Always Local based on yelp reviews (both times having a Saturday service call). The first weekend took two trips as the drain was clogged and needed additional work after the first clearing; but the second visit was free of charge and resolved the issue. On the second weekend, the same technician came out and diagnosed the issue as a couple of parts failing on the outside part of the unit; had them in his truck; and was able to implement a fix in a couple of hours. The person handling the phone was easy to deal with and very easy to understand; the dispatches were informative; telling us an ETA that was fairly accurate each time. They seem honest and don't oversell solutions. So if you're in an emergency weekend situation and need help like we did, I believe these guys are a very good company to call. read more

The AC on my rental property stopped cooling suddenly a few days ago. With 100 degree + temps I considered this repair to be an emergency. A competitor was able to come out soonest and diagnosed as a failed condenser--meaning a replacement condenser at $4,400 at a minimum, or full system replacement from $7k-$10k+. Despite the rush situation, I decided to have Always Local come out for a second opinion. I'm so glad I did. They showed me that the coils were filthy and needed cleaning and that the interior A coil (I think they called it) hadn't been inspected at all. It, too, was filthy. After giving a thorough cleaning to both--it was up and running again immediately. They're charge was just under $500-soooooo much better than the $4k+ I was told I needed to spend by the other guys. They even knew to tell me to check the trash cans (when I mentioned it was a rental) and just as they expected--filthy filters were in there--proving that the renter had never changed them despite assuring me he did so regularly! They were spot on!! They worked hard, and thoroughly in the scorching heat. I wish I remembered their names--but both young men were great and I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Here's the situation: It's 3:00 am. I am awoken feeling warm- which was odd because the thermostat was set to 72* as per its schedule. It quickly became clear the AC was not working. I put on a robe and went to the garage and checked the fuses. Nothing out of the ordinary there. I put on slippers and went outside to the unit- it was very clearly not running, but there was nothing I could see wrong (I am very uneducated on AC units). Here's the big problem- my wife and I have a 1 month old newborn. I imagine he doesn't like the heat much. So I message Always Local at 3:30 am asking if they are available to come out. This was on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. I thought I was out of luck until Tuesday. 30 minutes later Dave replies (at 4:00 am!)- they can be there at 11:00 am! Great! They rework their schedule and get there even sooner at 10:00 am! Frank is the technician and it's clear he knows what he's talking about. He explains everything he's doing before he does it and assures me he can fix the issues for an affordable price. His Airforce Hat he's wearing affirms what his work ethic proves- he is an honest technician with a ton of integrity. After an hour and a half, he has everything back up and running for a FRACTION of what I was worried it would cost. Our unit is 27 years old! I thought it was over. Nope. Really conflicted with this review. On hand, they were friendly and quickly diagnosed what was causing my AC unit to turn on but not cool. On the other hand, as other reviews have said, they immediately tried to sell me on replacing the entire system, and after I refused, provided a quote that was over $2,000 higher than several competitor quotes. Honestly, even though I feel they'd likely do adequate work, their prices reflect an attitude of trying to take advantage of people in a rough situation.
