When my A/C stopped cooling, I called The Coolest, LLC because they're listed as a preferred vendor in my neighborhood. The technician found a leak and gave me two costly options: replace the coil for over $3,000 or replace the entire indoor unit for over $5,000. I always seek second (and even third) opinions for major repairs, and I'm glad I did. After having two other HVAC companies inspect the system, I learned that I didn't need such extensive repairs. The company I ultimately went with provided a more reasonable solution that made sense for my situation, especially since my unit is nearly 10 years old and will likely need replacement in a few years anyway. By going with the other company, I saved myself thousands of dollars. While The Coolest may not be outright dishonest, I didn't feel confident in their recommendations or expertise. WARNING: I had read positive reviews about this company, but I had an awful experience. Had a new complete HVAC system installed and they left the job looking like this, with the ceiling pain/drywall coming down like this. In addition, I had some concerns about the humidity levels in my place with the new unit running. The owner, Mark, called me and was incredibly rude and disrespectful, saying that he had much bigger concerns than this right now and was going to get around to it eventually down the road. For someone who just spent a lot of money (10K) on a new HVAC system, found this customer service just really disappointing. The owner was downright nasty to me. They sent a technician, Cole, out to address my concerns, and upon leaving, I learned that he intentionally manipulated the system settings to create falsely improved humidity readings (see the pic of the calibration settings below) giving the appearance that the issue had been resolved, when it had not. This was a deliberate act of deception, and I was never notified that he had manipulated the calibration settings. As soon as I learned he did this, I contacted them about this, with very little response from the company, other than "yeah, he shouldn't have done that". I would highly, highly recommend you use another company, this was super shady business. ------------ In response to the owners comments below: I have never terminated our work together, I have been trying to get ahold of you guys to address my concerns with no response. Not cool, man. Can you personally reach out to me and schedule a visit? Under no circumstances should the diagnostics be adjusted to reflect a lower humidity level than it reads; this is manipulation, particularly given my chief concern of the humidity levels being too high. Your manager Lee even told me that this was inappropriate and he would speak to Cole about it. Furthermore, there was never any follow up visit discussed like you said. The crack in the wall was not small, it was big, and the pictures speak for themselves. This was right after the install of my new unit. Same day, just left like this, and you were rude about my concern to get this addressed quickly. Lastly, I never requested a full refund, and again you have demonstrated that your lack of customer service here by painting a patron (who just paid 10K for a new install) as a villain, rather than making things right. read more

I requested service for a upstairs damper that wasn't working. The service technician was very friendly and knowledgeable. The damper issue is not resolved at this time. The parts had to be ordered. My system is 11 years old so I requested a checkup and cleaning. Decided to have both capacitors replaced while he was here because both were reading low. I see The Coolest has a lot of good reviews but our experience yesterday was so frustrating I felt I needed to share especially since numerous others at our condo complex have had very similar experiences with The Coolest. We paid the weekend premium to have a tech come due to our AC not blowing cold air. After an inspection we were given 2 options. Refill the coolant or replace the entire unit for $7,000. The tech said there was most likely a leak. They didn't know where and never even offered finding the leak as an option. In hindsight, I feel they didn't offer to find the leak because no leak existed. We were going to go with the option to refill the coolant but the tech strongly discouraged us from doing that and really was only pushing for the full replacement as the only viable solution. The tech seemed genuinely irritated that we were not committing to a $7,000 purchase on the spot. One of the first things the tech did was flip a switch on the rooftop unit and we replaced the filter inside (approx. 5-6 weeks old). Cut to shortly after the tech left and our "broken" unit which could only be saved by a full replacement was working perfectly!! I can't imagine how The Coolest could in good conscience could push such costly and unnecessary services. A few weeks ago, my family came back from a trip to discover one of our two AC Systems (one system for upstairs and another for downstairs, both Goodman / Amana Heat Pumps) was not working. After some trouble shooting, we determined that it was likely a bad compressor which would've been thousands ($$$s) to replace. Given that our two systems were installed back in March 2007 and have had a decent 15+ year run, we decided to replace both. Not expecting to have to replace our AC this year, I began researching options. I quickly decided that we would go with a full-variable system from either Carrier / Bryant, Trane / American Standard, or Lennox. These brands were the highest rated, had good warranties, and offered top-end, highest-efficiency (20+ SEER) system to match our recent investment in Solar. I then requested about 10 bids from different Austin-area HVAC Contractors that had high ratings (more than 4.5 star) on Yelp / Google reviews. The proposals came back with slightly different scopes and a wide range of prices. I created a superset of scope and narrowed down to four contractors. The final four contractors all impressed me with their knowledge, skills, attitude, experience, and professionalism. I asked them all to update their proposal based on the same scope. In the end, I selected The Coolest, LLC, which is owned and operated by Mark Legare. The Coolest agreed to do everything I needed (rebuilding plenums, addressing some duct work, adding dampers, installing & configuring full-variable Carrier Infinity Greenspeed 3-ton and 4-ton systems with AprilAire filtration and REME HALO LED purification. After selecting The Coolest and signing the contracts, Mark went to work in procuring the equipment (no small task in today's supply-constrained world). Within a matter of a few days, Mark texted me with good news, he was able to get all the components we wanted without compromise and scheduled installation for early the following week. The installation was a marathon and not a sprint. The Coolest's Installation Team of Rigo and Cole were outstanding! Both guys were very knowledgeable, amazingly courteous, respectful and some of the hardest working HVAC installers I've ever come across. The team focused on our non-working unit (located in our attic) first and took a solid three-ten long-days to carefully remove the old system, address new work items + cleanup, and install the new system. Their methodical approach resulted in a first-time-right working system that just purrs. Next, they moved onto the second system, which took about a day-and-a-half. This HVAC company came to my place to check for a condenser coil leak. At first my building didn't let them in because they didn't have proof of insurance, not a good start. When they came back the guy says the defrost board is not working and I'll need to replace it. I didn't have that problem before he came. To recap: HVAC was working before they came, stopped working at the same exact time they came to check it out. The guy obviously fried the board. All they did was send me an invoice for coming out there to break my HVAC, quote the cost of repairs for a new board, and suggested I just buy a whole new unit. I strongly don't recommend. read more
