Avoid this company at all costs..... My hot water heater was leaking slightly and considering I have not had to deal with this before went to Lowe's in Leander Texas and talked to a customer service rep who told me that I needed to go online and request service for a hot water heater...and so I did. After going through Lowe's website and filling out the appropriate form, it was not long before I received a call from ARS/Rescue Rooter. They said they would send someone out and they did although late. Upon arriving to my home and showing him the hot water heater, he immediately started to try and sell me a tankless hot water heater for $8K dollars. I immediately said, please don't try and sell me anything what I want is a quote for a replacement tank hot water heater. He immediately responded with $3400.00. I was shocked by the price of a 50 gal hot water heater. I said, that's ridiculous and he said $700 for hot water heater and $1500 for labor but would not tell me what the rest of the amount was for. I told him I would obtain other quotes but please email me a quote (which I never received). Closed garage went into the house and a few minutes later (he never left) came back to the door and then told me he could do it for $2700.00. Again, he said $700.00 for hot water heater, 1500.00 for labor. I said what was the $500.00 for and he said disposal and many other things. I said I would like a breakdown quote of all costs/charges and said (and I quote)....I can not give you that. I said, well no thank you and that was the end of it. I called other companies. Here we are as a community trusting Lowes with providing us with respectable, professional and quality service vendors and this is who they are allowing as a provider and when you do that, your name Lowe's is attached. So not only is the vendor bad so is Lowes. That alone has made me stop doing business with Lowes in the future. ARS are scam artists and in my eyes stealing from those who possibly do not know any better. What a rip off. I am paying a monthly charge so that I get semi-annual tune-ups on my A/C heat pump unit. First, they spam your phone until you make the appointment probably because they want to get out and break your stuff. So, I made the appointment for a technician to do a tune-up on one of my 3 units. He arrives and tells me to turn on the unit while he looks at the compressor (which they installed 4-5 years ago). I do it and he comes back to the door and asks whether I have done it. It turns out that the breaker tripped. I reset it and he says that the family is not working. He replaces the capacitor and says it is still not working, so the motor needs to be replaced. He does not have one on the truck. Someone calls 2 days later to get someone new to the house who has no information. He looks at the motor and says it needs to be replaced but does not have one on the truck. He shows me what the cost to replace the motor would be and I almost fall over because he is only talking labor because the parts are under warranty which is $1000 with a discount. I figure it must be a huge job and I cannot.live without the A/C in Texas. He comes back the next day and spends less than an hour replacing the fan. I said that it is ridiculous given the time he took when he presents the bill based on the estimate. Even taking into account the time the first guy took, we are talking about $500/hr. I had left a positive review for this company on 8/3/23 however since then, things and service has drastically changed! BTW I believe ARS only copies the good reviews from Google to their website. Buyer beware! This company has no direct number to anyone in Austin, Tx and I cannot get a call back from the plumbing manager, Mike Rios, to discuss a $20,000 quote I received yesterday. The guy who came out last week didn't end up fixing our issue and charged $200 to auger (unclog) the toilet. The next day it backed up again, so he fixed nothing! The $20k quote is to replace 75ft of sewer line in the yard! Its nit under foundation, its in the yard!! OUTRAGEOUS PRICE GOUGING! I originally called using their $83 coupon for unclogging our sewer line or it's free and ended up paying $200 to unclog (supposedly) the toilet. When it was all said and done with cameras, the issue is in the sewer line, not the toilet. They owe me $200 since the issue wasn't my toilet and Andrew Made it out to be the toilet. When Samuel and Steven came yesterday 8/9 we def have a belly (sag) in our sewer line but there is no way in hell we're paying them $20k to dig up the sewer line and reattach the pipe and replace where it's sagging! Yes it's hot outside but that should not be reflected in the price of the job. That's their job, to dig and unclog shit! Still waiting for Mike Rios, plumbing manager in Austin, supposedly, to call me back to discuss. So sneaky that I get a call center in Orlando, FL every time I try to call the local number. That center is NO help! Oh and to add to the fiasco, Samuel called me 8/4 to schedule him coming out on 8/7, he was a no show. When I called 8/8 to see what happened they said the appt was for 8/8. About an hour later I got a call apologizing for the tech missing my appt on Monday and I could reschedule 8/9 or 8/10. He finally showed up 8/9 and gave that $20k quote. I only worked with ARS because of home depot purchase of central AC unit. Today I called because I smelled wire burning from the attic area. My husband went to the attic, hear sparks and could see a visible burn mark on the box. The scheduler was rude almost from the beginning of the conversation. The scheduler yelled at me repeatedly stating they can come out July 6 or not at ALL. Now I'm trying to explain to her that I'm afraid of my house burning down because an installer error but she stated to me you don't want me to tell you what you can do. Now in order to be seen as a priority customer I need to pay for this $10 a month plan or $180 plan. And because of the extreme heat and their business schedule (which I understand) I may be seen next day after speaking with the third scheduler. I asked if I had another company come out will I be reimbursed and the answer to that is I'm just the scheduler. I spoke with three different schedule just to get a little help. And I asked for a supervisor and even asked for Rene from Quality to be emailed to contact me. I was told very rudely she will not contact until 3-5 business days. I ask for a manager or supervisor. I was told there is no one for me to speak too. Ok, the Technician Ricky Rodriguez came over to fix the problem same day after paying the $180 bucks and he is just as rude as the scheduler. My husband was asked Ricky why did we experience the burn out of this item and he looked at my husband then stated I'm not here to argue with you. And I'm not Houdini. I can not answer that for you. These things just happened. Man what a experience I tell from start to finish terrible. I guess asking questions offended him. This has been the most rude and unprofessional experience ever. INFURIATING EXPERIENCE ZERO STARS!! Our air conditioner broke this week during a heat wave and we called ARS and were told they could come out the next day (Wednesday) and gave us a four hour timeframe to wait. Two hours after the end of the four hour time frame, I called them and they told me they had tried to reach out to us, but our number had been disconnected. When I asked them which number they called, they replied to me with a completely different number! Keep in mind that they had sent us a text reminder of the appointment on the correct phone number. So that was the first red flag. They promised they would be out the following morning and we'd be one of the first calls between eight and noon. So we cancelled work AGAIN and waited. They didn't show up again!! I called at 1pm and they said they would escalate it to dispatch and that the repair man Jose would be coming out soon. We waited two more hours with nothing. I called them back. They said they had escalated to dispatch and at this point I knew that was a flat out lie. Another day wasted of precious PTO. So we canceled the service and went on the hunt for someone else. It's currently Friday afternoon and the clown circus at ARS just called me to tell me that they were running late and that they would let us know when they'd be at our house within 30 minutes. When I told ARS that I had canceled the appointment on Thursday because they kept us waiting with no-shows for two days, The lady got testy and told me that they had never had us on the calendar for Wednesday or Thursday. Only Friday. What in the world??? How companies can get away with such horrendous customer service and scheduling systems is mind blowing. These people have no business being in business. NONE. If I treated my clients the way they treated us this week, I wouldn't have any clients. And these people don't deserve to have any clients either. They need to shut down and get out of town. I bought a new water softening system, and new faucet and disposal for the kitchen. For installation, of course my first thought was ARS as they did such a great job with installing the AC. It took most part of the day to get it all done, but was very impressed with the technician, Sean- he got it all done and did a great job! The cost took away my breath a little, but it makes it easier to know that they stand by their work and its under warranty ... Over the years, they've helped me personally with new HVAC systems, plumbing, etc...I recently moved to Austin and recommended them to my landlord. I have absolutely zero idea why ARS has such bad reviews. Went through Home Depot to have my water heater replaced. They were quick to come look, gave me options with no pressure at all. Because of the not so great reviews I had a highly rated company come and give me a quote. They were friendly but didn't look at my device/situation which may have made me feel more comfortable or come by the time I ask for and told was okay. They just gave me three quotes from just walking around my house when I wasn't home to even speak to anyone. AND twice the price for the same service. What a joke of a company. All they want to do is make money. I had a tech come out because I was told by another company that the HVAC unit ARS installed was installed incorrectly. I made an appointment for a tech to come out and check it out. They no showed the appointment twice then showed up a day late. After the first no show appointment a tech called and told me (without looking at the system) that there was no way it was installed incorrectly and he was going to charge me for getting in my attic because it was too hot - I was already told there would be no charge since they weren't diagnosing anything. I called 4 separate times to talk to a manager about the way I was treated and told they would call me back that evening. It has been over a week with no call. RUN AWAY! First, the company has horrible outsourced call center. They promised a date for an appointment, then no showed and never called me back to reschedule. I had to call them every time, like I was their mom, to ensure they were coming. They then rescheduled AGAIN! All during 100+ degree temps. Finally, they promised to waive the fee for the visit, which they had no authority to do! Liars! When they finally showed up (later than the window), he took 5 minutes to look at the unit. Then, this tech tried to charge me $2500 for replacing a compressor. Thankfully my husband challenged that, and we had someone else come 2 hours later from another company that charged us $100 for a new capacitor. He replaced within 10 minutes and issue solved! Last, I made a review before (which is mysteriously missing). Someone replied and told me to reach out to Renee for customer service. I did. Renee looked everything up and said that she had no record of the tech getting paid the service fee. Maybe he pocketed it? So she assured me I would be refunded (since he not only did nothing for 5 minutes, but his diagnosis was lazy and WRONG!). However, it is now 2 months forward, no refund. No nothing! About four months ago, I called Rescue Rooter and left a card with my mother. The technician came and told my 70-year-old mother that she needed a ring underneath the toilet to explain water on the floor. She was charged $520 for a 20-minute job that required a $10 part. A few days ago, the toilet had the same issue again. The technician came and said it was not the same problem, but that rusted parts were the issue. $225 later. ARS contracts out their work; they are essentially a call center. I have used ARS in the past, and the pricing wasn't excessive. Perhaps they had their own technicians then. STAY AWAY FROM ARS! $2800 to install a $500 water heater? I even took the old one out previously. So I bought the water heater booster you said is usually $1,000, but you can give to me for $500. I looked it up, and it's no more than $299. So you're still charging $2,000 for labor? That's insane! You lied straight to my face. You robbed me. Here's why you robbed me. First off you charged my new Lowe's card for work that wasn't even done yet. I don't like that. Now I'm trying to get home warranty to pay a portion but you charged me too early, and I'm going to need a refunded amount. Your guy didn't show up, call or text the day he was supposed to come out. Then he came the next day, the morning of Thanksgiving. He installed the water heater, then wanted me to sign something to acknowledge the work was done. But the work wasn't done. I wanted a shut-off valve installed on the hot side, but he didn't do that. The booster wasn't there. He said it wasn't on the work order. He had to get someone to bring him a booster. So now, he had to fix these mistakes which took another hour and made us late going to a thanksgiving party. It's just one thing after another. Now the hot pipe from the wall is leaking because your professional installer didn't clean the old paint off the copper pipe before adding a union going into the booster. It's dripping slowly. I'm so angry that I don't want you to come fix it because you'll only make things worse! I don't want to deal with you people ever again! You did everything wrong! Horrible company, horrible service. Customer service is some of the WORST that I have ever delt with. Its like they are on purpose ignoring your requests. On 5 occasions I requested to speak to a manager, twice with supposed escalations to management, and NEVER, not once did anyone call us to see how they could help or what was going on. When a lady finally did call us from the local office she blamed the call center for her not knowing that we wanted to speak to a manager, but after my request to her also to speak to a manager...again nothing. DO NOT USE ARS/Rescue Rooter for ANYTHING you cannot see - like plumbing drains in your yard!!! The City of Austin (30 years ago) had come into the neighborhood and planted trees. At the time, my wife was a divorced mom and said "sure, thanks, plant a tree in the front yard". And they did . . three feet behind the water meter . . and, as it turns out, three feet from the waste line!! Three years ago (2020) we had ARS come look at our waste drain to the street and run their Rooter through the accumulated roots which had broken through the joints. $900 later, we were told we would have no more problems. Until September 2023!! We have them out again. They run their Rooter again and then tell us they will have to dig it up again . . @ $2500?!!! While trying to decide what to do - I first called the Austin City Waste Water Department. Within a day they were here with their (much better) pipe viewing camera and we STILL HAD ROOTS?!! The City fellas brought out their 20,000 psi pump and hose and proceeded to cut all the roots out of the pipe. Their advice - NEVER call a plumber - the City will clear the roots FREE!!! Their cameras did show joints with roots showing and said we had 4 - 6 months before they would be back inside blocking the drain. So we called a group in Georgetown that our daughter uses in her commercial property leasing job and they were right out at our home the next day. I had started digging the hole to make it easier, quicker and cheaper than paying the plumbers to dig! In the hole back fill from the ARS "fix", I found remnants of a lunch including a broken soda bottle?! Since this was on top of the pipe, I knew who had left it. As to the "repaired pipe", it was a mess of small sections of 4" PVC and "fernco" (rubber) connectors. Our new guys found that one end of the rubber connector was not even covering the PVC - ROOT ENTRY! Also neither of the two PVC "repaired" connections to the existing pipe were primed nor glued?!! Roots getting through - you betcha!! We now have a well fixed drain line, a knowledgeable plumbing company to call upon and the City of Austin Waste Water Department phone number just in case we ever have another root issue - which I doubt we will!! Weve had several people out to look at it and everytime they say its fixed and it never is. This week we had someone come out and tell us the unit was installed completely wrong and needs to be completely fixed. This was 3 days ago and we still have not been contacted by ARS to fix the issue. Were pursuing getting our money back and having them take thier awful product back. When ARS has their 29.00 special just know these poor guys have so many calls everyday they will be late and you will wait all day regardless of your chosen window. Our tech was awsome and I really feel bad for these guys. Over booked, over worked. I think COVID really hurt the independent contractor and many had to go corporate to make ends meet. Our hot water heater went out Monday (9/26). Got a new one from Home Deposit at 9am Tuesday and they have a contract with ARS to install same day if you call before noon. Hubs called at 9:40am for the first time. He called 6 additional times (largely hourly all day long) and kept being put off. We will have someone call you, they will still get to you, and more excuses. At 5:15p, dispatch said they couldn't get to us until the next day. So much for same day installation... Well, we replaced it ourselves - helps to have a handy husband. Likely saved ourselves a ton of money too. ARS had a simple job. Install two toilets on tile floors. They royally screwed up the first attempt, wedging one toilet, claiming it rocked. Terrible caulking job, where you could see the wedges sticking out. I called them back out to reinstall the one toilet to remove the wedge (which they never asked permission before wedging the toilet). Toilet did NOT rock without the wedge. Caulking job was sloppy again, and when I raised concerns, the installer said to call his manager, that he was finished. ARS did not return my three calls for a remedy; I finally secured a refund from Lowe's, who contracted them for the work. Do not use them for any service, or you will regret choosing them read more

Answer: next week. My kitchen sink is not draining at all, cannot do the dishes, and these guys are telling me they are coming, and then don't show. Went through Lowes to get a water heater replacement in. Same day, ARS came out to quote: Total Installation Labor Gas Tank Water Heater: 40-GAL 6YR LP TALL WH (Model G6-T4036PVR): A.O. Smith 1325050 Expansion Tank Drip Pan Extended Protection Plan: No Extended Protection Plan Garage Miscellaneous Material 1325050 Material Permit Subtotal $2,475.00 I was told by the gentleman that performed the quote that the "Permit" section and "Garage" section were for work that needed doing to make room for the Expansion Tank (legally required). This work would also be guaranteed. Ok, cool. The fine print stated payment would be due after completion of the project, which he also stated wasn't true because I needed to secure parts and permits to complete the project. I was out of hot water, with a potential gas leak sitting in my garage, so I signed away $2500 and went back to WFH. Saw the water heater was 680 or so, and all the parts needed came up to about $900 with tax and delivery on my own. Mistake 1. Didn't notice how there's no itemized listing / price breakdown. Two days went by because nobody in Austin's Lowes had the Water Heater I needed. They ended up getting it from Round Rock and showing up Wednesday (same day install. hah.) After the work was done, I noticed they were able to fit the expansion tank in the enclosure in my garage without any other work. What happened to the $2500 price tag, the permits required, my copies of them? Any changes to be made? The workmen stated "They'll get ahold of you." I asked who. "Lowes...?" They left with my busted water heater and I could bathe comfortably again. I called Lowes and was hung up on after explaining my issue with undelivered, promised work, permits, and followup. I called Lowes again and was warm transferred to ARS's customer service. They had the permit coordinator call me back. "You didn't need any permits because you're in unincorporated Travis County." they say, and I ask about the pre-paid permit work I was told was needed prior to the work starting. "If the salesman stated the price was all-inclusive, and you've got a question with the deliverables, I'd take this up with accounting. I'll get them to call you." Mistake 2: That was a salesman, not a licensed inspector, or anybody that could prove they could state they knew how to navigate law. Misrepresented and didn't question it much. ARS should not be consulted unless it's a last resort. We used ARS for over 15 years and purchased our air conditioning system through ARS. However, ARS blew out our AC drain pipe, causing significant water damage in our walls. Of course, we gave ARS another chance. But when our AC went out, ARS unilaterally canceled four of the last five appointments without prior notice. When we attempted to complain, the ARS representative hung up on us. We tried to explain that ARS again promised to be here between 8 and 10 AM today to repair our AC. It's nearly 90 degrees in our home. Not only did this not happen, but ARS no-showed once again and never called. Sorry, but ARS should re-evaluate it's customer service or go into a new line of business. read more

I schedule an appointment a week ago and they gave me a time range and date. the date of the appointment they called to reschedule and gave me another time range and date. Work was excellent, showed up on time with masks and shoe covers and they provided and installed an all new system for less money than ARS wanted just for labor which was $2500. Came here to see if others had a different experience with this company, but I see I am in a big boat with lots of others. ARS installed a new system a week ago Saturday at my house and almost immediately, things started going south. On top of being late for the appointment, the techs didn't come with the zone board and dumpers, and they would have to return at the weekend to install those. Then a few minutes after they left, the system just stopped working. We were promised a tech would come out in the morning and I called off work for my morning shift. Tech did not show up until 4pm. After being assured the system was working fine, it broke down again during the night and we had to use portable window units. It is Wednesday today and I've been waiting for a technician who they said would show up by 2pm. Nothing. When a member of my family called them asking if we should still expect them, they claimed they had tried to to call us to put us up in a hotel. None of us has a missed call. Seeing all the others with almost similar complaints on here makes my heart sink; seems this company has gotten away with this behavior long before my issue came up. Clearly calling them and complaining does nothing to help since they always just take down my information and by rote, say they're sending a tech out. They'll even give an ETA. This is simply wrong! Saturday morning I received a response from their CSR and was scheduled to meet with a representative on Monday morning. Colin came out and met with me to assess my requirements for a replacement unit. He was very professional and thorough, which left me with a positive impression. He had an install slot open the next morning and I took it. Did I mention that I've been without hot water since Friday?! The company sent Nick and Corey to make the install. They were here on time and quickly went about their business. They are very good, very competent installers, and very professional. They took care to not damage my floors in going about their work. Felt fortunate to have these guys in my home to do the install. They put me at ease with the way they went about their business and how well they worked together. The install goes without an issue. We figured why not, we're already talking to plumbers, easy enough to see what Home Depot offers. They sent ARS out, and all I can say is that I really feel bad for customers who aren't experienced in BS detection. Price gouging on steroids, unnecessary work involved that would totally violate your existing plumbing/electrical setup. We went with a plumber who just simply did the work required for about $3,000 less. The prettier the truck they drive, the starched shirts, the more they advertise, the awesome iPads they show you the nice pictures of water heaters on might be a sign that they've got to pay for all that cool stuff. When the service technician arrived, in short order he changed the price to $418. To solve the problem , ARS has replaced 5 ton two stage AC with 5 ton single stage AC. ARS owe me refund. Original 5 ton two stage AC cost me $10000.00. Now ARS will refund me $300.00. It seems price difference between two stage 5 ton AC and single stage 5 ton AC is $300.00 . I don't think this is a reasonable refund for a 5 ton single stage HVAC system. Bait and switch scammers. Was told I'd be charged $500 for a tankless heater flush to resolve an odor when my equipment is less than a year old. Something that takes about 30 minutes to do should not cost anywhere near $500. Avoid. read more

Don't trust these guys, look at their reviews online. The are unethical and can't be trusted. I would give them a negative rating if Yelp allowed it. I have an issue pending resolution and even after repeated attempts to contact them and resolve it, they just sent my file to collections. I've spoken to multiple agents, who all said we will get this resolved and nothing. Not only did they not fix our AC problem, they didn't even send another technician to fix it as promised by their manager. If my issue is not fixed then I will be repeating them to BBB for deceitful business practices. read more

Purchased a new AC unit since the tech said that the recharge would not guarantee to fix the issue. Less than 2 years later the unit stopped cooling. Called for service and the guy says we have to replace the condenser unit. $2,600!! I told him that he needs to check again since if you wait it begins cooling again. Oh! My kitchen sink backed up. It had happened before and I knew it needed the snake. I called a friend of mine who recommended ARS. I called and spoke to a call center in Houston (I live in Austin.) and I was quoted $89.95 PLUS a 10% Senior Discount. I could live with this. So I scheduled an appt. for the first thing the next morning (this morning 6.25.2020) The guy ~ Omid ~ arrived, took a peek under my sink and then I took him to the terrace where the exterior pipe was located. Then, he showed me on his iPad that the price would be $329.95. Um. WHAT? I said no. Then, magically, he started to bargain with me. He took it to $250. No. Then to $200. I said no again. Then he asked me what I could afford. I told him that someone else had given me a $145 quote and I felt THAT was also too high. He told me he couldn't do it for that because he wouldn't make any money. So I agreed to the $200 and he went inside. I stood outside and thought a bit longer about it and walked in and told him I could not do it and sent him away. I guess he thought ~ since I was an older, retired woman, I was an easy mark. That's what it felt like to me....that I was being taken. Then, I called the dispatcher and he transferred me to Renee. She listened to me relay my experience and said she would talk to her "team" to see what they could do. Thirty minutes later, she phoned back (I hold her way up for doing that.), but they could not do it for less than $150. I said no. And I also suggested that she talk to the call center and that everybody needs to be on the same page about giving quotes to folks and then when the plumber shows up not to jack up the price by over 3 TIMES what the customer is quoted!!!
