Rooterman has changed over the years and, unfortunately, not in a good way. My first review of them was in 2015 so that tells you that I have been a customer for a very long time. The focus of this review is the water heater that they installed on 1/26/23. As you can see from my other reviews, the water heater that was installed before that one was in 2016. 7 years is a reasonable amount of time for a water heater to last. The problem is that the anode rod is failing in this current one. Edie came out and drained it on June 29th. We are not currently living there. In fact, the house is for sale. The problem was the hot water was turning yellow. He said to run the hot water, especially in the tub upstairs once a week, which we have been doing despite living across town now. Guess what? The hot water is yellow in tint again. Here's the rub. At the top of my receipt it says 50 gallon water heater, 6 year essential warranty. Fast forward to yesterday. Garrett comes out and notes the yellowish tint in the hot water. So, he says he can maybe replace the anode rod for about $500. He also says I can try calling AO Smith to see if they will send a new water heater and they will install it for about 2K. So, this is like going to a mechanic and a part fails and they say, why don't you call the company and see if they will send you a new part? I am pretty sure that is not a thing. By the way, he tried to get the anode rod out and it is welded solid in there. I told him we would give a credit to a potential buyer but after talking to my husband I realize that is not a good approach. It is already a brutal market to try to sell a home. So, I am faced with having to replace it although I have a document that says at the top 6 year essential warranty. That makes no sense. I will have to bid it out and Rooterman will not be on the list. They replaced the heater in 2016 and then again in 2023. I had no qualms in having them install it in 2023 because they had my complete trust. This is no longer the case. I no longer recommend Rooterman Plumbing. I gave them 2 stars because they used to do a good and honest job for me. I no longer feel that this is the case. read more

The technician was great -- very professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything clearly. I have no complaints about the quality of the work or the service provided. Everything was handled smoothly, and the experience with the technician was excellent. The only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the pricing. Compared to other companies in the area, their rates were more than double. While the service itself was good, I believe the cost was significantly higher than expected. read more

2nd review for equally excellent service from Rooterman Austin-Flawless Fixers. While on another job my plumber, Jason, pointed out that my water softener was likely not performing at peak performance. He gave me a no pressure quote and let me be. I pulled my finances in order and easily booked an appointment with the very friendly office staff. I received text updates, including a picture of the person to expect, which I appreciate. Eddie was my plumber for the water softener replacement. He did an awesome job, explaining what he was doing. And he pointed out that my water heater had started to leak. Awesome. The job turned out to be more expensive- replacing a water heater isn't exactly chump change- but I was able to get financed without issue- do check how much the finance company offers you- it may be significantly more than the quote, but you'll be on the hook for whatever amount you sign for. The financing is through another company so not a reflection on Rooterman-Flawless- just be mindful how much you're signing up for as a loan! Edie very patiently waited for me to unfreeze my credit and get the financing lined up. He also obliged me turning up the water heater a few degrees as I like to shower like I'm a lobster destined for dinner. I was really glad to get two jobs done in one day. I needed a new toilet so I purchased one at Lowe's and brought it home. I used Yelp to get some quotes on installing it and.Rooterman Plumbing was one of the plumbers that responded immediately with a quote. Their quote was competitive and since I had used Rooeormanss before, I asked them to send a plumber over as soon as possible. Within 20 minutes the Rooterman plumber arrived at my front door! That is no exaggeration! The plumber's name was Eddie, the same plumber that had worked at my house previously. Eddie is a very personable young man that is easy to work with and seems very honest. He did an excellent job installing the replacement toilet and making sure everything worked properly. He cleaned up his mess and removed all the old materials from the job and left us very satisfied.. They are very highly recommended! read more

I'm updating my review after the owner's response to provide some additional context. My primary concern was the extremely high markup on individual parts. For example, I was charged $250 per emergency shut-off valve, while the same type of valve can be purchased online for approximately $12. Similar markups were applied to other parts, bringing what I consider a relatively straightforward toilet repair to nearly $1,000. I understand that professional plumbing services include labor, diagnostic time, travel, insurance, warranty, and overhead. However, having worked in vendor management and construction, those costs don't justify this level of markup on individual materials. A reasonable overall service markup is one thing, charging several times the retail cost for each part is another. I was also charged a $30 parking fee, despite parking at the property costing approximately $6 for two hours. While I did approve the estimate, I regret not getting a second opinion. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend getting multiple estimates and carefully reviewing material costs and fees before authorizing work. He was very knowledgeable, thorough, and took the time to explain everything he was seeing in a way that was easy to understand. He provided clear footage, walked me through the condition of the system, and gave honest, practical recommendations on what needed attention now versus what could wait. I really appreciated that there was no pressure or unnecessary upselling. Just straightforward, professional guidance. On top of that, he was punctual, easy to communicate with, and very fair with pricing given the level of detail and time he put into the visit. I'd highly recommend Collen to anyone looking for a trustworthy and experienced plumber. I'll definitely be using him again in the future. read more

My first experience with Rooterman was by referral from Austin Rooter who pumped out my septic system of a home I just purchased. I had an independent company assess the septic system and they recommended risers be installed since the tank had settled and is now about 12 inches below grade. Additionally, one of the lids was missing and having an open hole was a safety hazard. Rooterman came and assessed what was needed, ran to supply house and by afternoon I had two brand new risers with lids! They also had some recommendations on the leach field and maintenance, and they were kind enough to quote that work before leaving. Additionally I had a plumbing issue on the pool and reached out. They were very honest saying a pool company would probably be cheaper and better equipped and I was super impressed and appreciated the honesty! Thanks again! read more

Our water heater started spraying water into the garage and since it was over thirteen years old, we figured it was time to replace it. We called another plumbing company first because they were listed on the home improvement store's website. They gave us a time slot, but then didn't show. Turns out if I'd checked Yelp I would have saw they had an average two star review and a lot of negative reviews about scheduling. We called Rooterman Plumbing next. It was after hours so we were put on the list for the on-call plumber, but told they might not get to us that night if they were already busy. That was all fine. The next morning we got a text asking if we still needed a plumber and were able to schedule an appointment that morning. Josh showed up at the promised time. He confirmed that it was time for a new water heater. He then took the time to talk through and price out the options. Once we agreed on the water heater to get, he and his assistant were able to get the new one installed and the old one removed that day. I appreciate that he not only got the new one installed but made sure to fix up any problems he found. There was a PRV failure at my rental property and I asked Rooterman Plumbing to go out and find out what the issue is. They did discover the issue correctly but they added so many unsolicited suggested repairs (e.g. installing a new water heater, changing the faucets in kitchen and bathroom) that was clear a rip off. I would not recommend trusting their quotes. I went with another company with a much cheaper quote (for same service) In addition to this there is a major communication issue with this company. In my request I stated that I will be in meetings and can respond to text but not calls. The plumber at the job site called me and texted me but I could not text or call him back. Texts got rejected and calls got routed to their office. So I had to keep messaging the office and they keep asking me when he can call me. read more

Collen came out the day after my service call to remedy a leaning water heater that had been installed that way by another employee 18 months ago. He designed a clever way to fix the problem by going beneath the platform and using some support 2x4's. He didn't charge me anything to fix my leaning water heater-a request made by the buyer of my home. He also made another inspection-cited repair, without charging me. Our toilet was slow to flush. Rooterman Plumbing came out the day after Christmas as we requested. Their appointment process was clear and straightforward. Eddie arrived promptly, assessed the situation and outlined avenues he could take to remedy the situation, as well as their associated costs. After we chose the avenue we would like to take, he efficiently completed the work, taking care with our home in the process. As it turns out, a ceramic votive holder had been flushed down the toilet and the repair he originally suggested was the correct one. While it was a somewhat costly repair, it was necessary. Pro tip: don't place small objects over your toilet, they just might get flushed. read more

I had a couple months of high water bills and couldn't isolate the leak. Called Rooterman to take care of the issue largely based on their website. I definitely made the right decision! Misty (the sweetest person ever) answered and took care of the scheduling and had the guys out to see me quickly and efficiently handled the billing. Curtis Kurka was the tech who showed up and his years of experience made obvious the he was the right man for the job. He took his time diagnosing my issues and went through every potential culprit prior to telling me that I needed a new main line to the house. I knew what I was in for, so I called Misty back and requested Curtis to do the work. Curtis and his apprentice Shane Walters showed up the next business day to do the work. They use this cool text system notifying you the guys are enroute, shows a photo of the tech, a bit about themselves, and even tracking. Curtis and Shane got to work straight away and didn't waste any time. They made sure to manage expectations and kept a very clean work area. I had the chance to talk with Curtis and Shane a bit while they were on the job and I can tell you that not only are they great guys, but these are the pros you want working on your property. I was very impressed with Shane's knowledge, work ethic, and his desire to progress in the field. Curtis knowledge is just awesome and feels like a buddy from minute one. As I know a bit about plumbing and construction, I can tell you the work was done very well and at or above code.
