My complaint is on the customer service first and not necessarily about the subpar product.
My first Apple product and first Apple Store experience... and my last. I have been a basic computer guy. I used to buy $300-$800 Windows laptops: Dell, HP, Samsung, etc. I had some big upcoming projects that required a LOT of memory. I settled on the MacBook Pro 2019 15". The previous year's model. $2000? It was a lot, but it was an investment in myself. Everyone would lightly harass me about not having a MacBook, so here I finally was. Beautiful box with beautiful inserts. The machine itself felt solid, like a quality solid, unlike my "cheap" laptops. I'd never even seen that display bar thingee. That tripped me out!
Fast forward over a year, and having only used the computer minimally for projects, I still used my HP because of the Microsoft Paint, another story...
I have another couple of projects due that require my Mac 2TB memory, so I bust my Mac Book out, and this time I get to learning about it, watching tutorials that make the Windows transition easier. About 3 months into using it everyday, the screen "kind of" stops working. It's on, I can adjust the brightness and HDMI out to my TV, but the screen isn't working.
I spent a couple of hours on the phone with CS the night before and they wer actually really nice. We did a bunch of installing and troubleshooting and I was actually kinda impressed with Apple's CS. I was thinking, "Oh THIS is why they have a rabid loyal following." I couldn't understand why their products were so expensive, comparatively, but figured this was why. Well that went all out the window thanks to the "genius" I had to deal with.
My appt was X O'Clock, I got there 5 minutes early. They get me right in, I explain that this is my first time ever in an Apple store. The guy takes my computer, looks at it for 5 seconds and says, "$700." I was about to say, "How soon can I pick it up," but before I could even open my mouth this "genius" said, "I wouldn't do it." I thought he was gonna peep in my ear to go to an iphone fix it store, it'll be cheaper, or something. Instead, he told me to buy another MacBook. I was boggled, I said, "But why would the screen not work on a $2,000 computer?" He said, very arrogantly, "Well it is a 2019." I said it was just 2022 last month!" I have $300 computers from 2010 that the screens still work. Then he proceeded to tell me how brand new MacBooks don't work "all the time." YIKES!!! Really!? Either way, this guy blew a $700 repair. I don't get it.
So here I am, at home on my HP Stream ($189 at Target) typing this Yelp review and doing all the work on my projects that I can while my beautiful MacBook Pro with the cool touchbar and the cool box and perfect packaging sits, not working. Thanks Apple. I'm glad I went out and purchased hundreds of dollars of useless accessories to for this POS. At least you showed you horrendous customer service right away and didn't suck thousands of more dollars out of me. read more
