Food is amazing. Everything I've ever eaten at ABEC has been good enough for me to make audible sounds at first bite. Luckily it's so loud in there nobody can hear me. However, my experience with service was so awful, I probably won't be back to this location. If my coffee is cold and mostly empty and I have to flag down a different server for a refill at a breakfast diner, that's bad news. If I ask for napkins because I'm eating messy beignets (from a different server) and I get brought literally one small paper napkin, c'mon. And if my server doesn't come back to the table to see if the food tastes alright or we need anything until we're completely finished with 3 dishes, then I done ate my home fries without hot sauce and I'm sad about that. Waited a hour food was good but waited forever to get drinks or any other side items. Got food had to wait the whole meal cold and without syrup with waffles and chicken. She never came back. Bacon that was in my drink (blood Mary) was old and tasted like the cooler box the keep it in. We arrived around 910 am to a relatively empty restaurant. While our order was taken promptly within 10 minutes of sitting down, we had to ask a hostess- who was also bussing tables- to get our waitress so we could get a refill on our coffee. The hostess told us "I don't know, that's not my job" and walked away from our table. I walked around the restaurant and found the waitresses hanging out in the kitchen talking and opened the kitchen door asking for a waitress to come to our table. Our waitress finally showed up and got our refills, this was around 940am and said our food would be out shortly. Another table thanked us because they'd been waitong about 10 minutes for their first round of coffees. She said our food would be out soon and we waited. Another 40 minutes went by and when our food came out, the plates were hot but the food was cold. We tried a bite to be sure and the food was freezing. We asked to talk to a manager 3 different times before a manager arrived and said that the food was made fresh and came right out to us. They offered to remake our food but we couldn' t wait any longer and offered to pay for our drinks. They still wouldn't let us go without paying for the food, claiming there was no way the food would be cold, even though it was. They refused to let us pay for just the drinks and suggested we leave, so we left. We will not be returning after 6+ years of dedicated patronage. We usually enjoy the food here but this particular location has gone down hill. The manager called me a Karen for not wanting to eat cold food. Which I tried to eat but it was cold. I've never been so disrespected. I've worked in the food industry for over 10 years and this is not how I would treat any customer because our restaurant messed up. read more

Wasn't worth the 45 minute wait. To the point, the food was Great! But the service sucked. My crab cakes and fried tomatoes were delicious but not worth the price. The server didn't offer any refills on water coffee or anything else. We ordered a drink that came out looking absolutely nothing like the advertisement on the menu. (It was supposed to be green) the first time it was red, the second time it was yellow. The manager and the bar tender were both rude about it while we remained calm and peaceful, The manager said "Next time you should point to the picture that you want" lol that killed the experience.. While the food is great, there needs to be some minor changes. Service and appearance of restaurant could use some refining. Also, I noticed while waiting to be seated, the person folding silverware for the guests, did so on the front counter where people are entering and exiting. At first we were told the wait would be 45 minutes, but actually were taken to a table 25 minutes later. Waitress immediately greeted us and took our drink order. Order was taken upon her return with the drinks. Unfortunately, it took over 25 minutes to receive our food. It wouldnt have been a big deal, but the table next to us had their phone on a YouTube video extremely loud. The video was vulgar in nature, and not what I wanted to listen to. Breakfast here was really great. We went and were seated immediately, which was unexpected, though by later on some people were waiting. But you expect that on a weekend. My biscuits and gravy were really delicious. They had a real southern style to them. The biscuits could have been softer which would have made it even better, but still it was good quality gravy for sure, and that's really what makes or breaks the dish. There were a lot of other things on the menu I wanted to try though so I know I'll be back. The coffee was pretty mild, not that great. And my mimosa was quiteeee tiny for the price tag. At least it seemed like mostly champagne but still... be prepared for a hefty bill if you want mimosas or bloody Mary's with brunch. $7 for hardy half a wine glass. We used the waitlist via yelp and we were seated just 5 minutes late. We ordered drinks as soon as we sat down with the woman who seated us and it took about 10 mins for the drinks to arrive (water and 2 coffees). It then took another 5-7 minutes for our actual waitress to greet us/take our order. From the time we sat down to food arriving it took about an hour. I just came in to pick up the order I placed 30 minutes prior. When I get in I go to the bar to pick up and pay. They kept me up front waiting for about 10 minutes and when I finally asked the bartender what the hold up was on my meal and why I hadn't gotten my receipt to pay yet. He went to the screen and told me that my order hadn't even been placed yet. After all of that, I didn't want it anymore. If they would've told me when I first came in, I probably would have been more understanding. To make me wait all that time for no food was a real bummer. The decor and our waitress Sarah was very informed about restaurant and food.Shrimp and grits was just right,crawfish Cajun omelette was just enough seafood as well as the supreme omelette. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Becky and Ms. Pat. They were very nice. I sat at the bar. The bartender's name is Chris. He helped me while getting to go orders and on top of all the he's taking care of tables. Let's just say they are spreading him super thin. He never complained. He's training a young lady. They do not seem to keep beverages in stock. My wife and I both love hot tea, yet for months they have been out of every flavor but chi and green. I'm not talking about a weird choice we just want something like lipton and Earl Gray or English Breakfast are both like lipton. I asked the waitress well do you have coke zero and she said well the fountain machine has it as an option but we've been out of that too every since I was hired. Finally fed up with the poplar location always out but aware there was another location on Park we left and drove to the Park location. THEY WERE OUT TOO. It is a nice, clean restaurant. Great outdoor seating is available if it's a nice day! I was not a fan of the breakfast potatoes they serve. My veggie omelette was delicious and definitely a generous serving. However when it arrived it did seem a bit room temperature (along with my coffee and potatoes). For the quality of the restaurant is seemed a bit pricier than I was expecting. They advertise the OJ as freshly squeezed....not very freshly squeezed.... THE SERVICE SUCKS!!! We went on Monday, around 11:30 am. We had a party of 8 people & were told that we had to wait for other people to finish eating before they could find us a table. We waited 15 mins for a table watching other people come in & be seated right away. We ordered with 1 waiter who we never saw again till we finished eating. Waited 30 mins for food & had to hunt someone down for the check. The food was the only good thing about this place. Their wait staff needs to get sum training from the Chick-fil-a staff. When we went, we were greeted warmly and were well taken care of. I had the Lakeshore Scrambler which was quite good - and filling. My wife had the regular Eggs Benedict.
