The food as always was just superb, but I want to say Matt, the bartender, was amazing. He was slammed and managed to still make everyone feel they were the only customer. I was unaware how big my bowl of soup was going to be so he suggested halfway through, I get it to go and start on my salad. He knew exactly what I needed. Also the manager at lunch was on it. Anytime I see a GM bussing tables makes me know I'm in a great place. They work as a team and I didn't feel lonely as I ate lunch by myself. Even the waitress who brought me my soup and salad were delightful. Just when I thought I came here for the food...nope, the experience was just as comparable. This hyped up Memphis spot is beautifully designed but disappointingly serves a subpar dinner. I fully appreciate the cozy, low-lit interior. The vibe was upscale and elite, and the service was timely and attentive! The notes I have are solely regarding the dishes we ordered. My boyfriend and I split the Honey Gem salad, which was perfectly balanced and had delicious, sweet profiles. We then ordered the Chicken of the Sea Pizza, which was very questionable. Essentially, the pizza was just round garlic bread with a 3oz mound of sushi-grade tuna in the middle. The cold, raw tuna atop hot, oily cheese was not the combination I was expecting nor enjoyed (I was expecting cooked tuna, and for the pizza to lean more on an Asian flavor focus). This pizza was supposed to have a green goddess sauce/drizzle, but was unfortunately missing. I was hoping the sauce would help to round out the odd flavor pairings. read more

If you like fancy pizza, this place is for you. Walking in, it looks very modern. You know, the plain type. The type that does look good, but barely has decor. We came at lunch right when they opened with no reservation, which was fine. There was plenty of seating but it did get a little busier by the time we left. The hostess and our waitress were very nice and attentive. This place is NOT kid friendly. Which is fine... not everyplace has to be kid friendly. I just want parents to know up front that they do not have a kids menu. I asked what kid friendly options there were and our waitress suggested a few, but we decided on just a cheese pizza. This was for my 3 year old and he did not eat it, but neither did my other 2 kids (ages 7 and 11) when we brought it home. It had no seasoning and a very tomato taste. We got the poutine as an appetizer. I forgot a picture of it. My husband has had this before in Canada and he loved it. However, this one wasn't up to par. He enjoyed it, but said an authentic one is much better. I personally couldn't eat it. The gravy was just too weird. As a main course, I had the "Mikey Likes It" pizza. It was good if you like basil. It was very heavy on the basil. It was a bit burnt though. My husband had the special which was a chopped cheese. He said it was good, but nothing to brag about. I'm not a sauerkraut fan, the bite I had was good, but I wouldn't have been able to eat all of it. The fries as a side were good and crunchy. Overall, we probably won't be back. I had a lot of appointments today and decided to treat myself to lunch. I've heard really good things about this place and I was in the mood for pizza. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was excited about something different. As I approached the restaurant my excitement turned into frustration due to the not so good parking. It worked out I got parked and my excitement quickly returned. I was very warmly greeted and seated even though I didn't have a reservation. I ordered one of The Seasonal Pizzas called Streets of Brookhaven. I could tell by the ingredients it was going to be delicious. It's topped with mozzarella, Nduja, ricotta, fig, sausage balsamic and honey. I was concerned that the nduja would be too spicy, it wasn't. if I was forced to improve it in any way, I would have had it be a little hotter. My first experience here was wonderful, I enjoyed the decor and the bathrooms were beautiful. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Return visit was awful today. Pizza was greasy and had only one flavor. The wedge was awful and taste bitter and like romaine had been frozen and at the price of $16. Just skip the salad. My last two experiences I can really tell they must be struggling. The food isn't very fresh anymore and seems uninspired. What happened? This was once a great place to eat. The food is greasy and salty. Ingredients seem less quality. I don't know what is going on but I really used to love this place. New vendors, new management, new something? The atmosphere is now very loud too. Hard to even have a convo with someone next to you, The vibe is just weird. The brand is messy but has potential. At one time, it seemed don't had a vision and now has lost that. My gosh, atleast switch the menu up occasionally. Let the chefs test out new things. You're just winding out the same meal on a different plate, not inspiration. The service is beyond slow and food is sub par at best. Just save your money. This place was trendy for a bit and offered good things. Someone's vision has gotten lost or they are having a hard time staying afloat and the ingredients suffer. My friend took me here for dinner and I was not ready for the experience I had. We sat at the bar and the bar didn't miss a beat. I ordered Pig Ears (never thought I would eat this). It was delicious. We had the oysters and they were good but the new menu item was FIRE. It was squash with rice and duck confit and some type sauce. When I tell you hands down the best squash dish I ever had. It melted in my mouth. It was like a featured dish that was hitting the menu the next day. Do yourself a favor and order this. We arrive a few minutes early for our reservation and they were happy to seat us promptly. We were seated in the back bar area which was perfect because it was not as loud as some of the other reviews mentioned. It's a lovely space, and personally a bustling restaurant just means people are happy to be there so we were unbothered by the noise level. We started with their gin and bourbon cocktails which were fabulous. Then transitioned to loaded tots and meatballs for appetizers - both very good but the meatballs stood out. For our next round we did the wedge and the "Thunderbirdi" pizza which we thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert we did the peanut butter pie, their pound cake option, espresso martinis, and a digestive; all of which were spectacular. We were pleasantly surprised at the ticket following our meal, we felt we got more than we paid for. I have yet to find one thing that I thought was above average - whether we're talking about food, service, ambiance, or whatever else you might consider when evaluating a restaurant. I have yet to ever have a pleasant experience at the host stand when entering, and the service at tables has been hit or miss the few times I've been. The drinks are average, and the food is just okay. For a restaurant that prides itself on being so "uppity" I have yet to see any justification for it. Absolutely delicious! We ordered the crab claws and my husband and I agreed these may be the best crab claws we're tried! And he's hard to please with sautéed claws as he's a fried guy! Next we had the thunderbird 40 twice pizza. It came out looking and smelling so good I forgot to get a picture! The hot honey really brings out the flavors of the pizza without overpowering it. Our waitress recommended we save the sauce from the crab claws to dip the crust in. That's a must do if you have the crab claws. We finished dinner with the peanut butter pie. I was worried it was be too banana-y but it was perfect! 10/10 food, service and the restaurant is so beautifully decorated. Do make a reservation though! Dishes include curious selections/ cuts of pork - most you've probably never heard of. Everything house made. Review: The food here is good, but the customer service leaves much to be desired. Every time I've visited, no one has checked on me after I've placed my order. Today, I sat at the bar waiting to be acknowledged, and I finally had to stop one of the ladies working just to place my order. When my food arrived, it was wrong--I ordered the John T Burger with mayo and ketchup added, but it came with only mustard. I also had to ask for silverware and a napkin. At no point did anyone check to see if my food was correct or if I needed anything else. This has been my third attempt at giving this spot a chance, and unfortunately, the service hasn't improved. On a previous visit, I even shared my feedback directly with the manager at the door. The bar team truly needs training on how to engage with customers--or at the very least, how to treat all customers equally, including customers of color. Pizzas are consistently delicious and creative and the chargrilled oysters are fresh and tasty, if expensive (5 for $25?). The romaine salad needed, of all things, salt and pepper. (Of course a place this chef-driven isnt gonna have those on the table, so good luck flagging down a nearby server.) The service is polite but not as thoughtful or experienced as it used to be. Our server asked if my wife had any dietary restrictions. She's pescatarian. Same server brings her a side of chicken skins for our split salad (I asked for the side specifically because of the aforementioned dietary restriction.) Weird. Then they did the one thing that makes me angrier than anything.... set down our hot food, asked if I needed another fork to eat with, I say yes, server goes and does 3-4 other things before bringing said fork. I understand servers have to prioritize requests, but what's more priority than a customer with hot food who's just sitting there unable to eat it until you bring them a utensil? Infuriating. As many others note, this might also rival Memphis' aptly named Ecco for the prize of "Loudest Restaurant On Earth." H&H still serves up some fantastic fare, but the negatives are starting to make it not worth the crowd, the noise, the prices, the mid service, the wait times, and the incredibly annoying valet situation. read more

One of my favorite places to celebrate an anniversary, or get together with friends and family. They have a seasonal rotating menu which offers a lotta variety. My personal favs are the margarita pizza and buffalo wings! Staff is friendly and have been visiting this place for 4 years now with my toddler. They have a small parking lot which is free to park during the day and converts to valet only in the evenings. Our waitress was kind enough to give us cheesy aioli that the chef in the kitchen was making as she grabbed dijon mayo and regular mayo for us. This kindness led us to favor the cheesy aioli over the other two. The steak and frites as our main dish was quite a flop though as the thick fries tasted a bit juvenile or amusement park like and the steak just didn't pack quite as rich in red color, didn't have long meat fibers running up and down the grain, nor tasted strongly a beefy meaty flavor. Perhaps coming from a big city, I am particular about my steaks to be rich in red color and beefy flavor. The two different restaurants I tried in Memphis just doesn't deliver in the steak department. Otherwise, the space and ambiance was what has me wanting to return and try other items. read more

We started with the pimiento cheese sausage balls and the biscuits with butter and jam. Hog and Hominy hosted a pop up with Kinfolk restaurant. This was so much fun and ridiculously tasty food. This place was very busy and I should have made a reservation since it was popping! My friend and I were able to snag a lounge table and we were so happy. We would have had to wait an hour for a table but we were willing to wait. I love the remodeled Hog and Hominy. The inside is open and totally sophisticated with all the New York like decor. There are many tables inside and some outside adjacent to the inside. They do have heaters to keep it warm for patrons. The parking lot is kind of small but there is street parking and parking by nearby businesses that are not open on Sunday. The hostesses were very pleasant and cordial. Our waiter Jacob was so nice and patient. He was attentive although quite busy. He filled our coffee and water in between serving others around us. Shout out to him for being AWESOME! We started off with a plate of biscuits that were so fluffy and buttery. It came with some jam and chive butter. I could have eaten another plate of those biscuits. My friend ordered the Porchetta. The dish came with focaccia, gremolata, roasted bone vin, hollandaise, and Calabrian chili. It was tasty. I had the Breakfast Bowl. It had sour cream, two fried eggs, old bay seasoning, hash browns and greens with mustard vinaigrette. All the flavors married together were amazing. It was like a party in my mouth. Came here on a Saturday night without a reservation (terrible idea (60-minute wait)). Since everyone was already here, parked via valet, and the baby was ready to sit and eat...we opted for the two tiny wobbly tables up against the wall alongside the giant curtain. The two hosts weren't exactly friendly or helpful. The server that was assigned to us made us feel as if we were a burden and made the whole experience off-putting. She wasn't helpful when ordering, didn't provide waters or utensils. We ordered salads, a few pizzas, and the octopus. To be honest, the menu is expensive for the size and overall lack in taste. Pizza is bland and SO thin. Like eating a chip with pizza sauce. Octopus was edible but incredibly chewy. When I used to travel to Memphis each week for work (4 years ago), Hog & Hominy was a place my colleagues and I often frequented so I felt it was a must-visit place on my most recent trip. The restaurant has completely changed from what it was! The ambiance is great for a dinner date night, drinks with friends - you name it! We were a group of 10+ people and had reservations which worked well as we were seated immediately upon arrival. As we were such a large group, we were seated in the covered patio area where they had heaters and space for larger parties - it worked out well! Once seated, our server explained to the group that it's best to order multiple items and just share so we went ahead and did that. From our family style order of appetizers and pizza, these are the ones I tried: Appetizers: - Sunchoke: I was worried about this one as it said it had H&H chili, but they made it easy to avoid this and it wasn't overly spice. Loved these little crisps! - Crab Claws: A bit messy as they're more of a finger-food, they're definitely worth ordering! The butter and garlic flavors were so prominent and this tasted very decadent. - Frito Miso: I stuck to the squash from the ingredients and paired it with the brown butter hollandaise. Delicious! - Brussels: Very tasty and not overly salty. One thing to note is that there is meat within the dish so not a vegetarian option (as we thought). - Meatballs: Served with three meatballs in a cute little bowl. While they tasted OK, this was one of my least favorite apps and I wouldn't order again. - Poutine: A must order here. Our table loved this one and was gone very quickly! Pizza: - Margherita: A good slice of pizza and very basic. A good vegetarian option if needed! I enjoyed it but wouldn't likely get this one again. - Shrooms: A different style of pizza with a ton of arugula. The flavor was good and I would order this again - highly recommend if you're vegetarian! - Pizza the Hut: This is your typical supreme pizza. The one issue with the one we got was that it was so flimsy and a slice couldn't be picked up to be eaten. We actually had to use a knife to scrape the slice onto the plate to eat. Overall, the food pizza was good but the appetizers were great! Next time, I would try the burger or a different pizza than the ones I tried (none of them WOWed me). Drink wise - they also have a very unique offering of wines and cocktails which make this place even more fun! As for service, there were pros and cons for sure. We were a large party and only had one server to help us so it was a bit slow and things were sometimes missed/ overlooked (waters not refilled, forgotten drink orders, etc). While we did have a few of those mishaps, our waitress did a great job overall. I will also note that I had questions about their wine menu so they had someone come out and explain the different red varietals to me. I really appreciated the focus they gave to me and that they helped me pick a wine to try (I chose the Mencia - Raul Perez "Ultreia St. Jacques"). I wish I had taken more photos because the presentation was very nice, but with such a large group - people quickly dig in! Definitely worth visiting and a place I'll be going back to! read more

Sometimes it's a hit or miss with wood fired pizza joints, either the crust is over burnt or is too hard. But Hog and Hominy got it down with perfectly cooked pizza and the crust was soft and tasty, as I would expect from wood fired pizza. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere that sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The roasted oysters were delicious, though I think it's overpriced for the amount you get. The garlic knots were also good, just a little greasy.
