Baked chicken
Camille F.

I really wanted spaghetti but I heard you have to come earlier! Everything was great but my mac & cheese didn't do it for me this time. It was still good though! It looks just like the previous time I got it but it tasted more "out of the box" to me. Service was great and staff was nice and quick per usual!

a meal in a styrofoam container

This was my first visit to the restaurant. I questioned the location, but I decided to enter and place an order to go because there were multiple people waiting in line. The restaurant was clean, and I didn't have to wait an unreasonable amount of time for my food. The cashier was friendly, and explained the business to me. My food was not hot, but it hit the spot. The yams were not sweet, the pork chops were salty and dry, the lima beans were over cooked, and my dinner roll was hard. I will return again to try something different from the menu, especially the Soul Food Sunday Menu.

We chose this restaurant on a Sunday for it was one of the closest soul food spot in the area. The restaurant was nice and clean and offers a quick to go line & also a small sit in dining area. We selected the baked chicken, dressing, candied yams, spaghetti, macaroni, black eyed peas & fried chicken.. The fried chicken was cooked fresh to order but you have to request it. For the other items in our meal , the baked chicken & spaghetti were both lukewarm. We did arrive close to closing, which was the reason given for the cold food. Although we got there late in the evening, with chicken it needs to be hot at all times. Gracie's definitely deserves a second chance & look forward to going back around lunch time.

Chops smothered in gravy

Pork chops in gravy were great. Had cabbage and green beans . Definitely found my go to lunch place.

Smothered pork chop, greens, and squash. Pretty good. I hate styrofoam. Could be hotter too.

The food I had was pretty good, although I thought it was a bit high. A meat plus two with tea set me back $12. Another $4 for banana pudding. I hate eating with plastic out of styrofoam and I think I deserve a plate for these prices. Other places do it. The $12 meal did not fill me up and I should be able to get a meat plus three for $12 and leave stuffed and leave a $3 tip. I left Gracie's with $18 less in my wallet for lunch. It's cafeteria style so you can see the food you'll be eating. It's also really fast if you're in a pinch for time, because all they have to do is plate it for you. The smothered pork chops were great. Probably the thing that impressed me the most was the brown gravy. It was obvious that it was homemade with beef fat. The turnip greens were undoubtedly from fresh leaves and they had lots of flavor. I wish they would put turnips in their greens. The squash was good, but nothing special at all. Just sliced and boiled. I hate cornbread muffins. You have to cook cornbread in a skillet to get a moist center. Muffin pans are for breakfast and cupcakes. The banana pudding kind of sucked and especially for $4. It was all crumbled up together as if the whole thing had been put in a blender.

I chose this place last night because it was walking distance from my hotel…read more I sat at bar and was quickly waited on. There were probably a half dozen waitresses working. They let me sample the Smoked Catfish Dip, which is served cold. It was delicious, so I had that for my appetizer. It's a huge portion and would be more than enough for 2-3 people to share. It comes with tortilla chips and they recommend trying it with the green Tabasco sauce. That adds a little heat to it. For my beer, I had a Memphis Made Fireside Amber Ale, which paired well with the both the appetizer and my entree. My entree was the Blackened Catfish with White Beans and Hushpuppies. I also tried their Homemade Tartar Sauce and Remoulade. Everything was excellent. I noticed they do quite a bit of carry out, to go orders. It looked like their to go orders outnumbered the actual restaurant patrons inside. They had a few waitresses constantly prepping carry out bags, filling sauces, etc...almost assembly line style, just to keep up. My dinner with tip was $50 plus.

It had that subtle jerk-style kick that made every bite even more desirable. The cabbage was well cooked, the rice and peas were flavorful, and the plantains were a solid addition to the meal. The portion size was excellent, especially for the price, making the value stand out even more. Customer service was also excellent, which always adds to the experience. For a mall location, this spot really impressed, but honestly, the food is good enough that it deserves a full storefront of its own. If you want a taste that feels much closer to the islands without leaving the U.S., Little Jamaica is definitely worth the stop. Here is a shorter Yelp-style version too: Little Jamaica has some of the closest flavors to Barbados I have found on this side of the U.S. The curry goat was tender, flavorful, and had a nice jerk-style kick that made it even more appealing. The cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains were all very good. Portion size was great, pricing was solid, and the customer service was excellent. For being in the mall, this place really stands out. Honestly, the food is good enough that it deserves its own storefront.

This was my first time to Tennessee, and my first time trying southern food there. I'll try and break this down quickly. The restaurant was cool and super clean. The cornbread and okra were probably the worst I ever had. The cornbread had no sweetness or flavor at all, and the okra was just hard, cold and rubbery. The sautéed squash was ok, with no flavor or seasoning really. I really enjoyed the green beans though. The macaroni and cheese wasn't that great at all, and the grilled catfish was decent. Now for the star of the show, the fried chicken. It was absolutely terrific! The thin and crispy batter and the juiciest meat! Yummy! We took home three desserts. Cobbler a la mode, banana pudding and bread pudding. The cobbler was great, the banana pudding was awesome, but the bread pudding wasn't that good. It was very dense, and the vanilla sauce was missing. That might have helped it a bit. Overall, we had a great visit and the service was completely top notch! Thanks again Grace!
