I'm not sure how to fill about this place. When this place 1st opened the food and service was a solid, I'll come back. Fast forward Dec. 2025, it's meh. The food is dang near trash, the service is trasher!! I've yet to understand how people apply for a job they clearly want and then are horrible at that role!! I NEED servers to understand and hear me CLEARLY, you DO NOT get paid if there are no customers. So next time, you're having a bad day, please go in the restroom and get yourself together and then come back and serve the people with a pleasant attitude AND smile on your face. As far as I'm concerned be an actress for the day if that helps. Came to Sage for a friend's birthday brunch. Sitting was fine as she had reservations. Mind you, we were close to end of closing time (they accepted the reservation) but that's NO EXCUSE for running out of food items. Who's doing inventory? Just asking, or how about send someone to Kroger to get the missing items. People need to learn to be creative and think outside the box vs "we out of erthing". As I was saying, immediately hit us with, "last call for food is at 2:30p and we're out dang near everything". WTF...fine let me order the stuff no one wants. I ordered the shrimp and grits and asked if the tails could be removed. You would have thought I asked for someone to sign the Bill of Rights. A simple, "I'll put that request in with the kitchen" would have sufficed instead of telling me "what they don't normally do". I don't normally tip when I get bad service but yet when you're in large party you have to, so go figure. The Shrimp and grits were BASIC; where's the Gouda cheese (I was told it's a "sauce", NO!! I want to TASTE my cheese). I stuck with water in fear of "we don't have XYZ". Luckily the table company was great because the service nor the food was NOT. Oh I'll add this bit, a guest at the table was told "they were out of French Toast" (mind you it's bread, can the chef cook, asking for a friend). At least two orders of French Toast came out after this notice. . Then they served us plastic ware!!! Have you know anyone to eat S&Gs with plastic ware, not to self, start traveling with my own utensils. I'm all about cleanliness but come on, some dishes deserve proper cutlery. Then two guest arrived later and ordered French Toast. Wait, we thought you were out? Waitress: "Oh the cook made a mistake and you already had paced your order." Excuse, Miss Ma'am, where do they do that? Free Lesson here: come back to the table and notify the guest there was an error and ASK if they'd like to change their order. I promise you that will take your server experience far!! So I say, if you couldn't care less about exceptional service or food, this is your place!!! The food here is delicious! In all honesty, I keep ordering the catfish and grits and eat every last bit every time! You might try with a side of shrimp, but honestly, the fish with the grits gets the job done-- it's so yummy! You will be ready for a sweet little nap after :) The inside is cute, not overly large, but comfortable enough with a pretty good playlist and sometimes they have a DJ. The drinks are good too! Pro tip: order the spicy margarita (I forget the actual name) and enjoy it WITH the lime! I nibbled little bits of lime and sipped the drink. That was a whole experience for me and I think that others should be so fortunate to have such a tasty treat! Something about the tart lime, the spice they use, and the drink, can't quite put my finger on it, but it's a YES for me! Also tried the mimosa flight. Important that you stir them all first to get the full flavor. My favorite is the lavender. That soul waffle they have on the menu (not pictured) is so unique, you might not think to order it, but I had a taste of that too and I was amazed! Came here for a night cap. I thought there was supposed to be a live DJ on Saturday night but maybe the flyer I saw was wrong. Anywho, ordered the fried shrimp and hot wings (both so so good!). Also ordered The Crew and Strawberry Hennessy cocktails. Both cocktails were syrupy so we couldn't catch the flavor of the ingredients as a unit. The restaurant is very intimate and well decorated. Our server, Jessica, was perfect. She introduced herself, answered questions about the menu, checked on us just enough and cleared our dishes so we could enjoy our drinks and conversation. This wasn't my first time at Sage and probably won't be the last. In town with friends, we decided to stop in Sage for a quick bit. They were just reopening for the day and decided to sit at the bar. My friend ordered the salad, which was a good portion size. I had the wings and fries to sober up and the season on the wings?!? OMG they need to bottle it and sell it!! Skip this all together. Menu is small and half the items were "coming soon" or sold out. We tried to order fried green tomatoes and were told "they didn't prep any, so I don't think you can." Out of all salads, hummus.... Guests come in fresh from smoking weed and it went unaddressed. When we asked to move they said they'd get the manager but we had to reseat ourselves. Music is offensive and off putting (lyrics you wouldn't listen to with your family). It's a confused 1/2 club with terrible drinks. Waitress was friendly but manager was not hospitable. Passing through Memphis. Wanted a taste of something local, authentic. We got the brunch. Crab cakes out of 5? 5. The crab is thick, juicy, and very flavordul. Somehow it's fresh... In Memphis. Yep, you read that right, the crab chunks taste fresh. The catfish and grits... How good can this be? Well how about the best grits I've ever had in my life. 5/5, seasoned shockingly well. And I eat a lot of grits. The catfish was standard catfish, and if you like catfish you'll like it here. Not overly breaded, just right, and well seasoned as well. I will say I was unprepared coming in, and the atmosphere is not what it was expecting. There's some loud rap music playing. Which I wasn't aware of, but that's on me -- I think maybe it does add to the atmosphere, it was unappealing at first. Service was decently fast enough, no complaints there. Popped in on a Sunday afternoon and was immediately seated...party of 1 benefit. I LOVE the decor... they really livened up the place. It has a restaurant / lounge feel with exposed vents and concrete flooring, but they've added greenery and sage green accents throughout. They had a great music playlist going, TVs showing black sitcoms, great customers, and delicious food. I had the brioche French Toast and turkey sausage, along with a couple of mimosas. Overall, the food was excellent! The turkey sausage wasn't salty and had excellent flavor and seasoning, and the French Toast was cooked really well. The mimosas had a good kick to them... I had one, ordered another, and then immediately regretted ordering a second because I started to feel my first one. If you are a fan of great food, this is a must try. It's walking distance in downtown and on a bit of a secluded street (on a Sunday). It also helps that it is black-owned if you are partial to wanting to support. I only deducted 1 start because I think of much thicker French toast when I hear brioche. I don't live in the area and did see the pics online. I was a little worried, but the French Toast really was excellent regardless! Tips: They add a service charge for cards, and the tip is included, regardless of party size Read your receipts. This restaurant came highly recommended so I was excited about checking it out. They open at 11am and we were standing by the door at 10:50am because we wasn't sure of the layout. When they opened the door people came out of no where, we looked up and the place was packed in less than 15minutes. We started with a carafe of Mimosa which was a nice mixture it was actually pretty good so we ordered another one. Most of the dishes are waffles or biscuits. We tried the soul waffle stuffed with Chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens. It taste like a crispy stuffed funnel cake. It was unique and good. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken stood out more than the waffle. I'm not sure if it was because the waffle taste bland or because the chicken was really tasty and crispy. Either way the entree was good. Great presentation. Shrimp and grits was prepared really good and it didn't have a lot of unnecessary sauce it had the perfect blend. My family and I had an incredible experience at Sage Restaurant in Memphis on Friday night before the Southern Heritage Classic. From the moment we walked in, everything felt just right. We had a party of seven and were seated immediately. The music, the vibe, and the overall energy of the place were absolutely perfect. Out server, Bri, was fantastic! 5/5! Friendly, attentive, and welcoming. She walked us through the menu with patience and clarity. Her warm smile and kind personality matched the atmosphere perfectly and made us feel completely at home. I had the hard fried catfish and chips, and it was spot-on. The catfish was golden and crisp on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. The chips were fresh, hot, and paired perfectly with the dipping sauce. My entire party rated their food 12/10. Sage does upscale comfort food the right way! Food was ok. Had the oowee rolls, only 2 full rolls cut in half, not fully filled, but flavorful. I also had the catfish burger, the catfish needed more seasoning, but the sweet potato fries were good. Hubby had the shrimp and grits and he enjoyed them. IMO, they had more flavor than the catfish. We had a great experience here. We came for dinner on a Friday. It wasn't too busy at all. The servers were so sweet. We had our 2 year old daughter with us and at a point she was getting restless and the waitresses were being so sweet with entertaining her. The food was really good as well. This restaurant is small but packs a punch with a whole vibe. The music was on point and the food was good. We were a party of 6. I had the fish bites and the salmon burger. The fish bites were really good! They were properly seasoned (important) and deliciously crispy and hot. They hot sauce was bomb. I asked our waitress to not bring the tarter sauce but she brought it anyway...wasteful. The salmon burger is not a ground salmon patty. Instead, it's a big fillet of salmon on a bun with burger toppings. It comes with a sriracha aioli but I left that off. The burger was okay. It was too much salmon so I ended up taking some off to make it easier to eat. The fries were good but not great. The salmon burger and fries were lukewarm--I prefer my food be too hot than lukewarm. I heard the wings were great and the seasoning on the cauliflower makes you thirsty lol read more

First and foremost, I love the vibes! The ambience is chill/intimate and the playlist was on point. My fiancé and I came here for date night on a Thursday around 8p. They weren't very busy at all so it was pretty easy to grab a seat. There isn't a whole lot of seating inside so keep that in mind. There is some outside seating. We ordered sticky wings with lemon pepper sprinkled on top (a suggestion made by our beautiful waitress) and spicy grilled shrimp. The shrimp wasn't anything over the top, just shrimp with Cajun spice. Tasted pretty good to me. The wings were actually really yummy. They remind me of Korean fried chicken. For drinks we ordered a strawberry Hennessy and the Molly Spaulding martini. They were both good, but I LOVED the molly martini. Super sweet. Tastes like candy. My kind of stuff lol. Went here tonight with my husband and our good friend. It was a pretty good experience. Our waitress Jessica was amazing. She was on point and her service and personality was great! There was some miscommunication between the host and our server but she made sure to handle everything.
