Fried shrimp were awful. They were big, but not cleaned at all. Big black waste along the back of the shrimp. Breading fell off as soon as you touch the shrimp. No seasoning, no taste. This restaurant would be better off not serving fried shrimp. If they don't clean the fried shrimp, I suspect the grilled shrimp would be just a bad. read more

Had lunch plans with some friends this past Saturday. I have been to this restaurant multiple times. It is pretty consistent and the food is good. They serve home-cooked food with a variety of vegetables available. Also, they have different daily specials. I ordered the country fried steak with lima and pinto beans. I also ordered a basket of jalapeño hush puppies. The hush puppies are delicious. My friend ordered catfish with two pieces of fish and it looked really good. I will need to order that next time. The restaurant is fairly big and has many tables and chairs for patrons. The decor is not fancy but cozy. Had to utilize the men's bathroom as the women's bathroom was busy. The only downside was the men's bathroom did not smell all that great. The parking lot is always busy as there are multiple businesses in the shopping plaza. Our server, Rachel was very nice. This is a small establishment that I've heard many good things About so we decided to give them a try on a Tuesday evening. It's a small restaurant but can seat about 50-75 people so i guess not so small. When you walk in, there's a chalk board with their specials and some of the things that they can't serve for the day because they ran out. Today we couldn't get fried okra-bummer. We were greeted by a young lady! She was very nice and we were immediately seated! Our waitress was also nice! Me and my husband both ordered Arnold palmers. Mine came with a spoon in it, i guess to stir it up, but my husbands did not. We then placed our orders. I ordered the hamburger steak with macaroni and cheese and greens with a cornbread roll. My husband got the catfish plate with onion rings and slaw. For some reason our food took a long time to come out. They waitress came over to apologize but it kept looking like people who came in after were getting their food before us! Not sure what that was about. But when we got our food, it was just warm. The only thing that seemed fresh and hot was the hamburger steak. The macaroni and cheese was hard, the greens had absolutely no seasoning at all and had the texture of frozen spinach. My husband's fish was good but again, it wasn't hot. I didn't bother tasting his slaw or onion rings because neither looked that good! Always a great meal for a decent price! I ordered the pork cutlet with brown gravy, green beans, sweet potato casserole, and roll. For desert I had a fried peach pie drizzled with chocolate! Powdered sugar was an option, but why not go all out with the chocolate drizzle? I placed my order to go and waited about 20-30mins, the cashier was so sweet, but everyone that I've encountered here has been sweet and helpful. The parking lot was packed, but that isn't unusual for this restaurant. They do have daily lunch specials, so be sure to check the board or call. I will continue to order from here and maybe sit down for dinner one day, but in the mean time, I will order take out. I do advise to call your order in, the phone line is sometime busy, but if you can get thru place your order over the phone if short on time. Visiting from out of town this restaurant was recommended as a place for good southern cooking. We went on a Sunday with our family. Service was excellent however the food was just mediocre. We had hush puppies and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. Hush puppies were good but heavy on the breading. Fried green tomatoes were crispy and not greasy. Very good. My Mother and I were looking for some comfort food after a stressful day and me not wanting to cook due to being later in the day; so I reverted back to my trusty Yelping reviews and found something new. Sweetpea's came highly recommended in the immediate vicinity and this definitely won't be our last visit. We entered the restaurant from the rear parking lot which is the suggested entrance and were greeted immediately by the host. While being lead to our table I was able to observe that this was a regular spot for everyone noticing several tables with just one customer who were enjoying a table full of dishes and other larger tables with several customers engaging in good company and food. Our waitress promptly greeted us while taking our drink order where I also asked for an appetizer of onion rings. Those Onion rings were absolutely the Best my Mother and I have Ever had! The batter was light and crispy accompanied by ranch and ketchup. Mama and I also both opted for the country fried steak with white gravy where we enjoyed every single bite. Well well well I just discovered myself a excellent soul food restaurant. This is a small southern style restaurant. Everyone from the hostess to the server provides exceptional and attentive service. My sister and I both ordered country fried steak, mac&cheese, turnip greens , cornbread muffin and sweet tea. My family decided to try this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation. My Dad loves southern cooking, especially fried catfish. The environment is a bit run down and not very clean. She really enjoyed her whole meal. I got blackened chicken strips and loved them. The green beans were good, but my side salad was disappointing. Tonight on the way home we were trying to decide where to stop for dinner since life has gotten in the way of me cooking this week. As we were driving through Bartlett, I read the name off of the front window of Sweetpea's and we turned around and went back. We had a good time. All of the waitresses were extremely nice. Went to Sweetpea's for the first time today. I'm not in Bartlett often, but a friend kept telling me about this place so I HAD TO GO since I had to run an errand in the area. Not a Southern cooking fan personally, but my friend twisted my arm. I opted for a grilled, bbq bologna sandwich. I love them more than the average person probably, though I maybe only get one a year of that. Sandwiches come with a choice of side. I choose mac n' cheese and added an extra side of coke slaw since it didn't say it came with it (No bbq sandwich should EVER be without slaw!) Food was delicious; staff was hospitable, tentative and friendly; and the restaurant was cute. If you are a fan of Southern cooking, I'd definitely recommend! read more

They just don't give you enough to eat here. I'm a small guy and the meal I got made me laugh and say "that's it?" It looked like a plate from a child's meal. I could have eaten two plates. Instead I ate a piece of cake and still left unsatisfied. I go out to eat, not to nibble. I want to tear some food up! There were some big guys there that I'm sure could eat a lot more than me. Wonder if they were hungry. Some of the other plates looked like they had more food, and some of the other customers had larger bowls for the sides than what I was given. This is waay too expensive for the small portions. I wonder how they attract so many customers. I ate here about a year and a half ago and bought a junior at Burger King right after. That time the food was nasty. I wrote a review, but Sweet Pea's showed up somehow on my FB wanting me to write a review. The owner let me know that he didn't own the restaurant then and that he had really improved. He was so nice about it, that I decided to remove my review if it was no longer applicable. I have a question. Yesterday I purchased the Chicken & Dressing from Sweet Peas. I left it in the fridge to thaw, put it in the oven at 375 degrees for 30 minutes (actually for 45 minutes) and I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong. At one point I turned the oven up to 400 for another 7 minutes but it never did brown. This is awful. It's shredded chicken and something ~ but I'm not sure what. Sorry, I don't mean to be unkind, but $23.00 is a lot of money for someone like me, who's on social security to purchase some type of shredded chicken with an odd sauce. Service was very slow. When we finally got our food it wasn't even what I ordered. I have eaten here many,many times but the service and food has hit rock bottom... I really, really like this place even though you enter through a door that looks like you are entering a small office. Then you open up into a 1960s cafe from small town Tennessee or Mississippi where every single person calls you y'all at all times. The sweet tea was perfect. The catfish was divine, the largest piece I've ever seen. The purple hull peas were extremely tasty. The fried okra was great. The chicken strips were also homemade -- different sizes, hand-batter-dipped -- and extremely good. The fried shrimp used the same batter as the chicken strips and unfortunately it overwhelmed the shrimp. They were somewhat small so it was a 50-50 shrimp/batter ratio. That's not good. You shouldn't have to go looking for your shrimp amongst all the batter. The chicken fried steak wasn't very good. It was the only thing that didn't taste fresh and homemade. The brown gravy that came with it was obviously canned and not homemade, and the mashed potatoes were kind of gluey. On the whole, I would highly recommend this place out in Bartlett, just don't order the chicken fried steak. read more

Waitress never informed us of the excess wait time when the meals came out at different times. We actually stayed on this busy night and had to ask for rolls too quiet our hunger as smaller tables were served before us who came in after we were seated? The food was good Southern fare as this was our 3rd trip to Sweetpea's. When leaving manager comp'd our meal so we left a big tip for the waitress. We ordered the fried pickles and were pleasantly surprised by the amount we got for the price. The bbq bologna sandwich was a little salty for my taste but other then that it was good. I think I may have went at a different time of day then most of the reviewers, From now on, I believe I will get my Stouffers Mac and Cheese and instant potatoes from Sams Club. We started our late lunch off with fried mushrooms, they were the right temperature, crunchy on the outside soft on the inside, but the breading was flavorless, that was strike one. Our food was delivered and looked pretty yummy. The Country Fried steak was a redeeming quality, outshone only by the Sweet Potato casserole, or bake, whatever it was, it was amazing! Sweet tea: 10/10 Hushpuppies: 10/10 (You get 10 for $2 and they were delicious) Sirloin (ordered medium, was way over medium but I did not send back): 5/10 for taste, not how it was cooked.
