The wait time for a table was only a few minutes but the wait time for server to take drink orders was 10 minutes then another 5 til we got the drinks then another 10 before we could order our food then another 40 minutes before the food came out. So we waited for at least an 45 minutes to an hour for food once we sat down. Don't come unless you have 2 hours to spare which is ridiculous for a place this small. Bathrooms were clean and unisex. A lot of local art of the walls and they let you write on certain parts of the wall which was cool. It reminded me of Huey's. Ok so the food FINALLY comes out and they forgot my friends waffle which took 15 minutes to get after the rest of his food, we declined because he was done eating. My food wasn't edible. Love the food. But when we stopped by 6/19 morning. Everything was good. Our server who was a white older lady was kinda blah. But whatever. The reason why I'm giving it a one star is because this server accused us of dine and dash. She gave us the ticket and another server came and got my credit card . My husband and I were waiting on his car to be worked on off of Germantown road and this was about 3 mi away so we decided to check it out. Now I am a person for whom human equality is incredibly important, so the South can be a little dicey as far as equality and modern times... and I can see where this place could go either way. However, there is also a lot of music appreciation decor, including melted record bowls on the wall, a graffiti wall, a painted guitar, and loads of portraits musicians. The toilet paper rolls are held on by revolver shaped finishings which were cute. A nod to Southern gun culture. The place is divey to be sure, but the food was good. I would have liked my English muffin cooked a little more, and my husband's biscuit was hard and chewy on the bottom like it had been microwaved. But I will say the omelets were excellent. We both had the same one and it was packed full of toppings. Our server was Zachary or Zach, and he was absolutely friendly, very quick, and very pleasant. He did a great job, give him a raise! For a dive bar/ restaurant, the restrooms were very clean and functional. Nothing was broken in the restaurant, and it felt safe and welcoming. A picky note: I don't know if it is this restaurant 's duty, but the beautyberry or dwarf crepe myrtle bushes in the parking lot are overgrown and not a great choice for those small spaces that extend into parking spaces and the sidewalk. I would love to give this restaurant 5 stars but I thought our breakfast was just okay. I had the chicken and waffles. My waffle was dry and my chicken tough and over-coated. The portion was generous. 3 fingers on a large waffle. I'm used to a breast piece served in most other restaurants. My husband had the Boss hog dish. He thought the dish had too much going on. Disappointing to say the least. Went there for breakfast on a Saturday morning and was put on the waitlist and watched them seat several other customers before seating us a party of only 2. When I asked after I seen them skip us the first time she stated we were next then proceeded to seat another large party that came after us saying they had a table open for 4 people. This place has potential and their menu items are very intriguing, so we will try them again because we want to like it. Therefore, if the experience is better next time, I will revise this review. I usually end with service, but since the first misstep was service-related, I will start there. We visited on a Sunday mid-morning with another couple. The hostess looked a little less than thrilled standing at her station and confirmed that when my wife asked how long the wait would be (they looked very busy). The hostess responded with 25-30min, which was fine so my wife gave her our name. Since it was our first time my wife asked her, "Are y'all usually this busy?" The hostess responded with a blase tone and deadpan look on her face, "Yes, this is why I hate working on the weekend." Strike one. Nothing irritates my wife more than an employee who lets her know they don't like their job and I agree with her. If I'm going out and spending $40-50 on breakfast then every employee there, who is customer-facing, should be thrilled we showed up! I will say our waitress was very friendly, but there was an issue with her appearance! I don't want to embarrass her and I don't know how to put this tactfully so I will just say it. This young lady elected not to wear a bra that morning. Let me be clear, I don't care, but this was a bit of a problem as her t-shirt did not hide her very prominent nipples that, my wife's friend pointed out looked to be adorned with some sort of piercing. I also want to be clear we weren't perving on her, but because we were seated at our table, her chest was at eye level and one had to make an effort to not see what was going on. When you are out and about doing your own thing, do you, but if you are going to be working in a job that puts your chest in people's faces then you should be more conscientious. My youngest sister, who is 47, has the same issue but told my wife she solves the problem with nipple covers, just a suggestion for that young lady. The bottom line is it was distracting and made all four of us a tad uncomfortable. Enough of all that, let's talk about the food. My wife and her friend both ordered the Motel California, which is a scrambled egg bowl with diced chicken, spinach, green onions, grilled tomatoes, and they say, avocado. The chicken looked to be the frozen diced chicken you'd get at Sam's or the grocery store and unfortunately, because that is precooked, it was overdone and chewy from being cooked again in the dish. The avocado was a packet of guac in a mass-produced packet, so not sliced avocado or even homemade guac. They both stated they would not order that again. My friend ordered the Fat Bottom Cow, which he really enjoyed. I tasted the gravy and quite frankly it was, BY FAR, the best breakfast gravy I've ever tasted! I ordered the Coastal Chicken Omelette. Mine contained the same chicken as the girls' and I have to agree the chicken was not good. I will say, that despite the chicken, my omelet was still good. The hashbrown casserole was VERY good as well. The coffee was excellent, but because they were a little short-handed it took some time to get refills (I drink a lot of coffee when I dine out for breakfast). To sum this up, we will try this again to see if the service issues were a one-off but we will avoid anything with grilled chicken (I'm sure the fried stuff is better). They had a lot of bacon and sausage dishes that looked very good and again, I would go just for the gravy. read more

Let me just say, Yelp has steered me in the right direction once again! I had never heard of this place and decided to give them a try based on previous reviews. This review is actually based upon my 2nd visit. I initially visited on a Wednesday and loved it so much that I returned the following Sunday! We were seated by what I learned to be the manager. He was a very friendly guy! Although they were super busy, the staff at Wally Hatchet's still managed to provide us with excellent service. They apologized about the wait and there was always someone coming by to check on us and offering to top off our coffee. We were thrilled when our breakfast arrived. I ordered the Ay Caramba, my husband ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger Omelette and added on pancakes and my son ordered the chicken and waffles again. The chicken was fried to perfection and I'm not sure if once again it's the syrup or the batter that makes the waffle so tasty, but trust me...it's good!! The Ay Caramba was very tasty and not as spicy as I expected. It was a large portion and I was able to take half of it home. I sampled by husband's bacon cheeseburger omelette....wow! I absolutely loved it! (I'm getting that next time) Everyone was extremely pleased with their choices and I was definitely pleased with the overall service. I typically don't leave reviews, mostly because I prefer only to leave a review if I've had a good experience BUT this experience was so bad that I'm hoping I save someone from spending their hard earned money and time at Wally Hatchet's. The customer service is TERRIBLE. The lady that sat us was nice. But the lady that took our order came up after 10 minutes and said "yall know what you want yet" in the most disgusting tone and horrible body language...just terrible. It wiped the smile off my face as I was originally eager to give this place a try. I tried not to overthink her demeanor and told myself let's just see how she comes back around but at conclusion it was clear as day that she didn't want to serve us. Our food was cold and burnt and incorrect (I ordered sausage but received bacon, still I said nothing bc I could tell she did not want to be bothered with us) but since we noticed she seemed more annoyed to have to serve us we decided to just go ahead with our soggy and burnt food after waiting for an extended amount of time. My husbands sausage was BURNT beyond eating so we decided to let her know. We said "hey the sausage is burnt and" but before we could finish getting our words out and ask if we could have fresh sausage she walks off while saying "I'll take it off" with a very annoyed tone. We tried to brush this off as well. Few minutes pass and instead of us asking her if we could replace our sausage we decide to get our hostess attention to ask for our check. We then received our check from our waitress and she annoyingly says "the sausage is taken off, it's the same without it" and walked away before we could even get another word out. We had told ourselves maybe if we order something to go, that the food would be something to bring us back for a THIRD CHANCE. But she never came by so we went to the counter to pay & she was dead silent, i waited for her to make some kind of eye contact so i could smile or try to pull her in for conversation but she never did so i handed her my card, she prints the receipts and hands it to me, STILL ZERO WORDS and ZERO EYE CONTACT, just noises and unprofessional body language, and as I was signing she remained silent and walks away. She never grabs the receipt from me that I signed and walks away as I was signing. I chose not to tip. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service. Being the bigger person I still place her pen and receipt on her side of the counter because I did not want to match her disrespect with disrespect. The food being cold could have been fixed but customer service cannot. I have never in my life felt compelled to leave a review but my hopes are that nobody has to experience this. It makes me wonder why WE were singled out and I do mean singled out because after noticing how we were being treated I paid attention to how she was serving everyone else.
