I have gone back a few times since my last review and I must say the service and food is the same. I tried the breakfast bowl this time and the rum french toast. The french toast were delicious. I enjoyed every bite. The bowl is just ok. I had the one with turkey sausages and bacon and the ingredients just didn't seem to blend well. I think it's because the potatoes are the frozen ones. Had a great time with friends at brunch. I ordered the shrimp and crawfish creole Benedict. It was so tasty and made me want to dance! The grit cake was firm but melted in your mouth. The shrimp was cooked well and not overdone. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the sauce was seasoned. I only ate half and will enjoy my leftovers later. Service was good. Our server J.R was very patient with us as we weren't sure of what we wanted to eat since they have such an extensive menu. AMBIANCE: This location is really nice. It is kind of decked off behind a couple of buildings, but it is not hard to find getting in there. It was pretty cold, but, to be honest, once we started eating the fried green tomatoes, it warmed us up enough to stay. FOOD The fragrant tomatoes were piping, hot, very flavorful. The flour that was used to fry the Fried green tomatoes was done very well. They were mixed very well with the seasonings, giving the crispiness that you would desire from fried green tomatoes. I also decided to try the yard bird in Waffle plate and they used chicken thigh for the chicken used in the entree. I was not a big fan of it because of how much fat or chewiness that came with the texture of the chicken thigh that they used. It almost made me feel like it could be some undone parts there. With that said, the Waffle itself was pretty on target to your basic Waffle. Would I order it again? Probably not, but I know that if I did get a Waffle, I would probably get another meat of choice; not the chicken thigh. Their shrimp and grits, on the other hand was amazing. It was very flavorful. I really appreciated the fact that they give the option of pork or Turkey bacon, so it wasn't as guilty for me to have that entree. The Roux was very flavorful the grits are super creamy, and they have sauteed vegetables on top, which are very flavorful, as well. Since we were there for brunch, we also tried some of their mimosas. Both of them were very tasty. The one that I had was the apple pie, which was more flavorful than the peach peach mimosa, that they have, but the peach mimosa gave more of a peach cobbler taste, which was very good. Overall, I would say that I would still give this place another try. I probably wouldn't try any of their waffle dishes, but the other ones are definitely worth the comeback again.The fragrant tomatoes literally made me and my party stay when we felt like it was so cold that we were gonna leave.So that is saying something and worth giving a try. SERVICE Our waitres was very kind, very polite, also very helpful. When we had a request that they could not perform for us, she did give a work around accommodation in regards to us trying to make a to go order. It was very appreciated. My husband and I decided to try breakfast out while wrapping up our vacation, we had returned home. Biscuits & Jam didn't disappoint. If you're hankering for your grandma's homemade biscuits... this is the place to go. We halved a biscuit & jam and the French toast and each had coffee and some water. Excellent choice, biscuit was flaky and baked to perfection. French toast had perfect flavoring, not too sweet and nice texture, the syrup topped it off nicely. If there is a wait, they provide bench seating outside and will text you when your table is ready. The food is fantastic! This place is famous for its house-made biscuits and locally sourced jams, but the entire menu is enticing. During both visits, everyone in my group ordered something different, and we all cleaned our plates. The biscuits are fresh, soft, and slightly buttery, which paired perfectly with my sandwich featuring a boneless, well-seasoned chicken thigh smothered in gravy. *insert mouth drool emoji* B&J's has a small bar offering a variety of drinks, including mimosas and a mimosa flight. Majaa was our nice server and kept us updated on any new items or popular items to try. All staff including a bartenders, runners and hostesses were really welcoming. AWFUL COMMUNICATION. I've come here a few times with family in town and always enjoyed it- but my recent experience was below par. I love the fried green tomatoes because of the sweet pepper jam they come with- so half of the reason I order them is to enjoy it! When my order came out however, it was with ranch dressing instead. I understand things run out and such, but I wish I was TOLD about the issue, as it would've influenced my decision. The waitress I got the attention of to ask about it wasn't very helpful, but I also was not in her section so I could understand. Second- I was deciding between two different entrees based on whether or not they had the fruity pebbles French toast (which I am OBSESSED with) so I EXPLICITLY asked my server whether or not they had it- and he said yes! So I ordered the flight in order to enjoy it. Imagine my disappointment when it comes out with 2 slices of OG French toast and 2 slices "rum boogy", with one of the OG slices topped with strawberry puree. When I notified staff I was able to replace the dish with a different entree, which took an additional 15 minutes. Both of these issues would've been avoided with just slightly more communication both within staff and between servers and guests, which is my only issue with the experience. My wife and I have been to the downtown Third Street location and love it. The grits are the absolute best we have ever eaten. The service is very good with polite and friendly waiters and waitresses. We go on Sunday's after church and have only been turned away once because of the number of people waiting. The one time we didn't like it was when they had a person playing the violin. We love violin, but this was electric and LOUD. Several tables around us were also annoyed. No one could carry on a conversation. Not exactly what you want on an easy Sunday morning. Pros: Great breakfast, polite and friendly service. They have coffees and a bar. Prices are reasonable. We dined on Father's Day. We arrived right at 9am and there was already a line forming outside the door. At 9 they opened and greeted everyone and wished all the fathers a happy Father's Day -how nice! Everyone in the line was able to be seated and the waiters began taking orders immediately! We both got the mimosa flight! They are $24e but worth it. My husband got the lemon berry waffles with fried chicken and i got the Breakfast Burger W/ Bacon Whisky Jam. They asked did i want my egg runny which i obliged but when i got it, it was not runny and the burger was cooked well done as well. I finally made it out here during Black Restaurant Week! Our server was friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. I recommend the Rise & Shine, which is fried chicken on a biscuit with their special sauce. The sauce is incredible! I was amazed by all of the delicious options on their drink menu as well. First review of this place in 2 years, though I've visited between. This time my wife and I stoped in on a Thursday mid-morning. Same large crowd (expect a pretty good wait for any crowd of 5 or more - make a reservation on a weekend!), same good food. I again had the strawberry French toast (still 7), my wife had the OG French Toast ($6+), and we split Turkey links (3 for $4). Service was cordial and efficient. Entering into what is known as Memphis Black Excellence Restaurant week was nothing but an experience to remember. My first destination was Biscuits and Jams for brunch the previous Sunday. However, there was a deposit of $25.00. The black owned establishment had a DJ and the music was terribly loud. Due to that I wasn't able to hear the waiter clearly which led me to feeling like I was screaming at my friend so she could be able to hear me. For starters, I ordered the ALOTTA PATATA which contains loaded cheese fries that were cold. Unfortunately , I had to send it back minutes later the waiter came back with a fresh batch that were extremely good. Last but not least, for my entree I ordered the B&J Breakfast which contains 2 Eggs ( Scrambled or Fried), 1 Biscuit, Grits or Breakfast Potatoes, and 1 side of Bacon or Sausage or an other side options they offered. I ordered the fried eggs and it needed a little bit of seasoning, but the grits and sausage were simply delightful. The experience was just weird... They have some policies I've never heard of. So as you can see from the picture, the waffle wasn't hot at all. The butter is solid. I hate sending food back so we just asked the waitress if she could just pop it in the microwave. Apparently the policy is they cannot take food from the table and they cannot put food in the microwave. Sooo if that's the policy, then the quality check should be better. The bacon was cold as well. I was just happy the eggs weren't cold. The mimosa was good. Overall, I was just expecting a lot of more based on other reviews. It's just average at best. I understand this place is new, so I am going to try and cut them a bit of slack. First, if you look at any menus online, they probably are not up to date. Check the menus on their website. Parking was a bit difficult as they share space with two nearby shopping centers. Spaces do open up fairly regularly, so have a bit of patience, and before too long, you will see backup lights. Service was good, considering that about 1/4 of the staff members appeared to be doing nothing productive. We arrived about the time that the entertainment began. Let me say this- I wish that the artist had been playing an acoustic violin instead of an electric violin. The amplification overwhelmed the relatively small and acoustically poor space to the point where I found it uncomfortable to be there any longer than we had to. Mind you, I have a bit of hearing loss due to being in a hard rock band post-college, so I cannot imagine what it would have been like for someone with "normal" hearing. Conversation between the people at our table was difficult- and we sat on the far side of the dining area, away from the performance. Our brunch meals were good but unremarkable. A "wow" factor seemed to be missing. The biscuit I ordered on the side was tasty and had good texture, but could have used just a touch more butter. I was surprised that there was no butter served with the biscuit. I should have taken the time to ask for some, and that is on me that I didn't. The Whiskey or Tennessee Peach, was "VERY GOOD" in my Tabitha Brown voice. I'm not a whiskey drinker at all but that was so good and would put you in yo back if you not careful. 5. Let's get into the Shrimp and Crawfish Creole Benedict. Now I don't mess with running eggs, yes, what I said, so I got them fried hard (no running yolk). STILL hit like nobody's business!! My lord, I saved some for my next day breakfast and STILL hit the same like it came out the kitchen. Oh and then them biscuits, umph, sleep on'em if you want too...you MISSING out!! I don't eat strawberry jelly or jam, but that right there was BUSSIN!!! Again, hit the SAME the next day!! I did NOT mean for this long review but you HAVE to know what you missing. Our last stop for Memphis Black Restaurant Week brought me and the rents to Biscuits and Jams, a breakfast and brunch spot located in Bartlett. It's off of Stage Road in the shopping center across from El Patron. There is parking in front of the restaurant once you enter. The exterior looks like a house with the mint colored door, porch, and windows. Prior to entering, the housekeeping rules are posted to the left of the main door. I like that everything you need to know regarding timing, tipping, and seating is given to you upfront. We arrived around 9:30 and it was already a full house! The hostess stand is in front of the bar area, and seating is to the left. The restaurant is clean and well decorated, and the windows provide great lighting. There's even a patio off to the side. side note: restrooms passed When you get to the hostess stand, in typical fashion, you give your name but ALSO your phone number as your wait time is sent via text along with a link to track your wait time. We went to sit in the car while I kept an eye on the time, and once your wait is over, you are given confirmation and required to text yes to confirm. I feel like "waiting isn't guaranteed seating" is a bit of a mixed message, mainly in how it sounds (could just be me), but I'm guessing it means more along the line of the table may not be ready right at that very second to keep from getting antsy. I think the link is good for taking out the hullabaloo of the "how much longer is the wait" situations. You can stay, change your mind, chat, or explore around while you wait for your table. We got our text and went to our table and noticed the menu is via QR code. I'm a bit on the fence with technology at times. While it's good to be up to date with current technology, you don't want to alienate anyone that may not be as tech savvy. Our waitress did find us a physical menu, and I thought that was nice of her to do. Our waitress was really nice and very patient. She took the time to not only find us a physical menu, but also went through the menu with us. There are several types of biscuits, pancakes, waffles, and other items to choose from with their own unique names. Our vegetarian/vegan friends are also included on the menu. She suggested a platter would be easiest to decide on, so all three of us ended up getting platters. The platter has 4 items. Each one does come with a biscuit and eggs, but you can choose the other 2. Dad got grits and sausage, mom got potatoes and sausage, and I got potatoes and bacon. They also have blueberry, strawberry, and peach jam, all homemade. The food was amazing! Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and made with love. The biscuits were fluffy, the eggs were good, the grits weren't overly cheesy, and the sausage was tender. It very much felt like eating at someone's house. I consider pricing to portion reasonable. As always, it depends on what you want, but prepare to spend about $10 and up. The owner even took time to walk around, introduce herself, and interact with customers and we even got to chat with her for a bit. We told her the food was great, and that everything tasted homemade. She said she personally works with her chefs so they learn how to make every menu item, and she told us the rule that she gives her chefs: "Don't burn my food up, don't burn my house down." I'll give this one a rating: pull up a chair. I really like Biscuits and Jams. Although it is a business, there's a very welcoming and comfortable experience you get from the staff, the food, and the ambiance. This is definitely a breakfast spot worth checking out. read more

After being seated we were informed that they were out of chicken (a majority of the dishes included chicken). We opted for biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon. After the food arrived and trying all of the biscuits on the plate, they were all severely undercooked on the inside and solid biscuit dough. After showing this to our server she brought the manager out and she informed us that was a result of the gravy. Now I have eaten enough biscuits and gravy in my lifetime to know this is something that I have never encountered before.
