Blackened salmon with cucumber salad with hush puppies
    Richard D.

We are on a lil road trip. Visiting family and sight seeing. I've been wanting some catfish found this restaurant with good reviews and decided to give it a try. We were early around 3:44 wasn't sore it was open. Parking lot empty. When in and nicely decorated. My wife had the blackened salmon I had fish and shrimp plate. My wife loved the salmon. Nicely prepared the cucumber sales was very good. My catfish was great. Not oily or over fried but just right. Fish was white and fluffy very good. Coleslaw was very good but we both agree the hush puppies were ok. We have definitely had better. Servers were good. pleasant and fairly attentive. Over all a good place to try

I ordered the fried pickled green tomatoes appetizer. I love fried green tomatoes, but have never tried the fried pickled tomatoes. They were cut into strips & fried to perfection, served with a dipping sauce that was good. I then had the fried shrimp which were perfectly cooked & tasty. I had the side of Cajun cabbage, I'm Cajun and this dish was not good for my tastebuds. The GM, was very personable, the servers were good. I would visit again as the service, food , & ambiance were all good.

We were staying in a nearby hotel and wanted something that tasted like Memphis. In a sea of chain restaurants, we chose Soul Fish and were so happy we landed there! Everything we got was great! The catfish was fried up right, not greasy at all. The collards were so good and we loved the hush puppies. The atmosphere is really nice and the staff was great! Highly recommend!

I came from out of town and decided to stop by this restaurant for lunch. Overall, we had a great dining experience. The sweet tea was really good and they kept it coming! Our food didn't take too long and came out really hot and fresh. I really enjoyed the taste of the catfish and the greens. The buffalo shrimp was a little salty, but overall had great flavor. I wish the cabbage had a little bit more of a savory taste. It was a little sweet. There is a great amount of seating and I really like the design of the restaurant.

    Birthday girl celebrating with friends

My group of 12 Golden Sistas went on March 20th and celebrated two birthdays. Taylor our server waited our group without missing a beat. The food was outstanding, it was delicious and plentiful. It was prepared quickly without waiting. Our entire group ordered most things on the menu. The service was excellent we took up two tables and they were able to accommodate our group without any reservations. Kudos to Taylor our server for doing a fabulous job. I highly recommend this place and most of us left with orders to take home.

Soul fish never disappoints. It's one of my fave places when I visit family in the area. Amanda was a great server, food was fresh and hot, and the taste is always consistent. It's a busy place located near shopping, grocery stores, and more. It's great for friends, family, and small groups. Do NOT count your calories. One meal might be your calorie intake for 2 days. However, I promise you won't regret it if you enjoy southern food.

Yeah this is some good stuff!! Sat at the bar on a weekend cause it was packed, lots of people coming in consistently for pickup orders too so this place feels loved. Hushpuppies were great, catfish too and portions are large. If you're on the fence one filet is probably enough! Good service too, drinks always filled and always had what we needed. I would bring people here bc it is good.

Traveling through the area and it was recommended to stop here. Overall, it was ok. The remoulade was on point! Right touch of a little spice, tangy, paired well with the Po' Boy. Excellent fry on the crawfish and oysters. The fries were limp and not seasoned. The Mac N Cheese was underwhelming. The tea was brewed to perfection. If I was to go back, I'd get a Po' Boy but get different sides because neither the Mac N Cheese or fries were done well. Server was great, attentive and we never had to wait on anything. Ambiance was fine, open air space with plenty of seating.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

There is plenty of parking in a lot across the street. We went inside and found it to be pretty busy, but we got a table for 4 quickly. The place was clean and homey-feeling and I loved the fact that they used disposable plates, utensils and napkins! It is probably way easier on the crew to clean up, and it adds to the relaxed atmosphere. I had the corn nuggets to start, yum! We finished them easily, they were so good. Then the entree of my chicken tenders, beans, and Mac and cheese came out, along with my sweet tea. The sweet tea was perfect, I drank a whole one during my meal and they gave me another to go in the souvenir Gus's cup. The food was just great, chicken was juicy and perfectly crunchy on the outside. Beans and Mac and cheese, delicious! I ate all of it even though I was stuffed. I even went so far as to order a piece of pecan pie for dessert, but unfortunately our server came back out to tell us they were out of it! Guess it wasn't meant to be (this time)! Our server was really friendly during our whole meal, chatted with us a little and made sure we had a great experience! Bottom line.... Go to Gus's!

This entire restaurant is built on a slight slope, and they did not level the foundation when building out the restaurant, so if you're sitting at your table and the table is aligned north to south, you will see a slight lean to the flooring. Also, if you have any juices on your plate of food, the juices will flow toward Beale Street. I wanted to try their tamales but will have to do it on a subsequent visit. This visit we ordered the bowl of gumbo and the Memphis strip steak which is pre-cut for you. The gumbo is slightly salty but good. The strip steak was really good, filling and cooked to order. I chose new potatoes as my one side. Service here can be a little difficult depending how busy they are and how wild your fellow patrons in the restaurant can be. It took a long time to pay the bill here due to a large party coming in right when we were wanting to pay and our server was attending to them for about 15 mins while we were trying to flag him down. Other than that, we had no other problems. I would happily return the next time I'm in the downtown area and looking for food near Beale Street.
