Havana martini

Always a good service when dining at the bar. Great food and atmosphere. This dish has been better on other days.

Doppleganger and Espresso Martinis - All martinis come with a bonus refill
Joe S.

It was so good, the J must stand for Joe, right? And BOGO Martinis? WTF! It's like a milkshake where you get the extra bonus part in the metal container, but with delicious boozy martini remnants! So I don't recommend 3... just sayin'. Bonus refills were killer, literally! I had the tequila one, the espresso one, and the Duke (the most classic) and all were great. Service here was amazing. First, sitting at the bar and having a drink before dinner as we waited for everyone to arrive. Great, talkative and informative bartenders. Loved it! And the waiter was excellent as well and just nailed it. So friendly and attentive. We started off with the Shrimp Appetizer (Fried and spicy) and these were good. They came out quick and were woofed down by our party of 3. For dinner, I had the the crab cakes (are they native to Memphis?) and they were delicious... as were the sides of couscous and Mac-n-cheese. Double Carbs, please! Others enjoyed their meals as well (Steaks and what not) and drinks and everything. This was a great stop outside of Memphis and was worth the trip from downtown. Although I didn't pay, so I don't really know if it was worth it. But everything was great AF! I'd go back and maybe seek out this chain again in other cities. Great job!

Always a great experience. Grabbed the last bar seat on Valentine's Day since they had a 1.5 hour wait and cars lined up outside the parking lot. Had the redfish and a cocktail. The vibe and food were superb as always.

Filet mignon with bearnaise

J. Alexander's sets itself apart with an expansive cocktail menu, consistently perfectly cooked steaks, and the best crab cakes in town. The restaurant and parking lot tend to get crowded at dinner time, but the pacing of the food and service is always quick. At night, the restaurant is dimly lit. During the day, it has ample natural lighting. The prices are rather high compared to local establishments but I go back for the consistency and the drinks.

Peanut Butter Pie

My husband and I went for a dinner last night to celebrate our anniversary. And had another great experience. Our server had such a sweet disposition and provided exceptional hospitality (Bailey S.). We selected our favorites, their veggie burger with potatoes and the chicken salad. Bailey's recommendation of the peanut butter pie was spot on. So smooth, it had a hint of peanut butter and just enough sweetness, not overly sweet. Enjoyed it, thank you.

I haven't been here in over a decade. A friend went for her birthday celebration, so this was my chance to get back in and see what they have. I ordered the salmon, broccoli, and wild rice. Everything was delicious! I also tried the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich, and it was delicious. The service was awesome! Our server was very attentive and check in us often. The vibe is super cute and cozy. It is definitely conducive for a group outing or a date night. I am looking forward to going back again.

Great service, well prepared and presented dishes but a bit on the pricey side for what it is. Don't get me wrong, there are more affordable dishes on the menu but when you are craving prime rib...you gotta have it. Nadia, our waitress was attentive and kept a smile on her face even though she was stretched thin! Note: the reservation platforms and their website state general dress code requirements but they are not enforced. Come clean and decently dressed and you'll be fine. The ambiance here is moody in a good way: low light, cozy table placement, and real candle lighting. Great for special occasions or just a great meal with friends or colleagues!

Cypress Salad

I came in for a quick dinner. No waiting bar seating available. Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance was average. The food came out in a timely manner. My salad was delicious. Calamari was ok! The service team was exceptional. Great teamwork and customer service.

Steak 'n' Fries (sub ceaser salad)

The food was very good and the service was excellent. It is a great spot to come with friends or family after shopping for a fulfilling meal. My only complaint is that they were out of several of the things on the specialty menu like drinks and entrees. I will say that it is snowing in the city which might have delayed shipping. Ultimately, this is somewhere I would return to because of the quality food, great service, and convenient location.

We've actually never been to J. Alexander's so we decided to give it a try for dinner. We arrived around 6 pm, and there was already a 30-minute wait. No biggie since they have a nice big waiting area just outside the entrance. Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. I requested a red sangria since I couldn't find anything on the menu I really wanted, she accidentally brought me a white sangria instead but it was still good so I didn't mind lol! We started with the calamari, which was nicely fried and the calamari was tender. For dinner, I ordered the slow-roasted prime rib and opted for mac & cheese on the side, and my boyfriend got the NY strip. The prime rib was incredibly tender and packed with flavor, and the portion size was very generous. I tried a bite of my boyfriend's NY strip but found it a bit salty for my taste. The mac & cheese was also amazing, definitely a standout side! Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and I'd come back again! Though I wish the lighting wasn't so dark inside.

Chicken Milanese was a tasty treat!! Must love garlic

Met my wife and young daughter there after work for a treat dinner out. The restaurant is clean and well kept the staff was friendly and helpful. Our server must have been new and had to make multiple trips to ask questions which is fine but most of the questions should have been easy to answer. It is disappointing when a restaurant doesn't have anything for kids and the lack of a physical child's menu and crayons seems like a weird place to try and save 25 cents. The food was mostly good, I had the filet kabobs which were undercooked and a couple of pieces sinew which I could not eat. We had a side of Mac and cheese which was awful, clearly reheated and the cheese was watery clumps. With tip dinner was pretty close to $200 for 2 adults and a toddler, so not cheap and at that price point I expect better than that.

This is the kitchen where it got down... the food was amazing

The service was great and the food was even better the waiter made sure we was good she was the best

Dirty martini

J. Alexander's is one of my favorite spots! I stop by the bar every once in a while for a dirty martini--it's the only time I actually enjoy blue cheese, and they do it perfectly. The service is always excellent, whether I'm at the bar or dining in. I've had dinner here plenty of times, and the prime rib is consistently great. The salads are always fresh and delicious too. Highly recommend for a drink, a meal, or both!

Our server was barely attentive to our table. She went around checking on other tables near us, but hardly came to ours at all. The only time she really interacted with us was when she brought the check. No follow-up, no asking how the food was, no drink refills--nothing. It honestly felt like we were overlooked the entire time. To make things worse, she wasn't even the one who brought out our food. Someone else dropped it off, and after that we were basically on our own. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected much more attentive and professional service. The food didn't make up for it either. I ordered the Chilean sea bass, and it was very underwhelming. The fish lacked flavor, the potatoes were soggy, and overall it just wasn't enjoyable. Definitely not what you expect for the price. Overall, between the inattentive service and the disappointing food, the experience just didn't live up to the hype at all.

You order your selection at the back counter then it is brought to the table. Ambience was standard diner like environment. The tables were sticky and some of the chairs were kind of rocky. The silverware was not as clean as we would have liked it to be. That was the biggest hiccup. The tartar sauce was not refrigerated. That was a concern. When we're traveling, we're not buying alcohol, or we brought our own, but something made the city told them:, no alcohol, or that they served to minors. That's a red flag, to me, because we don't know, what others they violated, if any! The staff were friendly. Our waitress allowed us to study the menu before deciding, since I don't really want to eat seafood with my hands, wearing church clothes. It was decided to buy whatever we feel like eating, without using tools to crack open, and have a picnic (hopefully with a table), in our suite. And have a quiet (not noisy like here) dinner to ourselves. (We did have a table for 2. Perfect!) We ordered, we told our waitress we're having our 51st Wed Anniversary this year. Crabcakes, Gumbo, Sweet Potato Fries, Corn on the cob, Fried Catfish Basket and Onion Rings. She remembered all that without writing! She did went back for condiments. With complimentary Chocolate Volcano cake for both of us. Thank you! The Gumbo, was perfect for our breakfast, enough for 4 servings. I had some with meals last night, we shared this morning, and enough for another meal. (We have a cooler). Everything else was delicious, perfectly seasoned, the catfish was packed in with the crabcake (which has shredded lettuce, slices of tomatoes), and it was still crispy! The Sweet Potato, packed by itself, was limpy, and so was the onion rings. We still ate them. We are just driving across the street, and we both agreed: Not crispy at all! I love the corn on the cob, and I love the Cajun seasoning, I thought I was having just buttered corn. This was a bonus, for me! And I usually don't like Cajun-style because in the past, they were always too spicy for me. But, Gumbo was my 1st choice for anything Cajun.
