Porch and Parlor is the best steak experience in Memphis. The interior is warmly lit and rather dark lending itself to a more intimate atmosphere, but they also have ample outdoor seating right on Overton Square. A prime location for a prime steakhouse. The service was strong as was the pacing. I found the server a bit too eager to explain the restaurant and the menu. I'm a ribeye eater so I had a pretty good idea I was getting a ribeye before I went in. I think the talking is used as a way to upsell and push guests towards opaquely priced off-menu "specials" which from my understanding are always on offer (such as their deviled eggs and bone marrow sauce). We started with the beef tartare and duck ravioli. I preferred the tartare, which had a nice spicy seasoning throughout. The duck ravioli had an excellent sauce on it, too. For our mains, I got the prime boneless ribeye ($68) and my brother got the prime strip ($56). We also shared the Yume A5 Wagyu experience ($225), letting us try three different cuts of Wagyu side by side. For sides (about $15/each), we did the fontina potatoes, truffle honey tots, and carrots. We also added the gulf prawns ($21), foie gras ($14), and bone marrow sauce (~$20) which was prepared table side and was plenty to share. It was very rich and peppery, though a bit of a salt bomb. For dessert, we shared the French toast bread pudding with maple butter ($14) which is one of my favorite bread puddings I've tried. They also brought my brother a dessert since it was his birthday, it was something like a raspberry mousse with coconut foam and a sharp raspberry sauce. Excellent. The Yume experience was a big motivation in coming here, as getting to try cuts of A5 Wagyu next to cuts of regular (albeit prime) beef is unique in the Memphis area and really for hours around. It was priced as an experience rather than a food item. It did not disappoint, nor did the prime steaks. The A5 is so unbelievably tender by comparison. My favorite was the ribeye, but I'm biased. My brother, normally a strip guy, agreed with me there. The potato sides were underwhelming, particularly for the price. I don't know how I let my brother talk me into buying him $15 tater tots for his birthday. I could get the carrots again, though. My total was $800 for the two of us for the above food, six cocktails, and tax and tip. A big chunk of that was the Yume experience as well as the drinks (we were celebrating!). If we were to go back, it would be closer to $350 for the two of us, and I would go for the prime ribeye with foie gras again, no need for Wagyu or sauce. I enjoy the sister restaurants in this restaurant group (Coastal Fish, Flight, Southern Social) and frankly I'd bet Porch is the cash cow of the group due to the relatively poor value proposition. We had a great experience exploring the finest steak and accompaniments one could wish for. But, for my money, Coastal does a pretty good steak too. read more

A great place for a celebration and a good meal! We sat on the enclosed porch and it had nice views of midtown, and wasn't too crowded. The restaurant was clean and service staff was very helpful. They answered all our questions and went above and beyond to make our celebration special. The A5 Wagyu Deviled Eggs were amazing - and your server prepares the Wagyu in front of you. It was a fun touch! Our steaks and sides were cooked to perfection. We even had some to take home to relive the dinner. Dessert was prepared fresh and did not miss a beat. This was my second time at Porch and Parlor...and maybe because we had a late reservation, it didn't live up to my first experience! The chicken was bland, but the broccoli with the chili sauce, AMAZING!!!! I truly enjoy this restaurant and will be back one day to experience them. A lovely birthday dinner at Porch and Parlor. This was my first visit and I was very pleased with the hospitality of the staff. The valet is on the side of the restaurant and it is complimentary. The front desk staff and greeter/hostess were all very nice and friendly. My friends and I were seated on the covered patio, it was chilly outside, but the covered patio has heaters and it stayed warm once staff made sure the patio door to leave stayed closed. We were seated next to the area where the waitstaff go in and out, it wasn't bad, I'd just ask to be seated elsewhere due to the constant in and out traffic. Now what did we order you ask?? Boneless Ribeye NY Strip Filet Cream brûlée corn (Absolutely delicious) Creamed spinach( very good) Brussel sprouts ( I had one Brussel sprout.. if you like them order them) Loaded potatoes ( similar to potatoes au gratin but fancier ) Mac and cheese Collard greens(sugar in the greens to cut the bitterness but too much sugar for my liking) Bacon Flight if you love bacon...order it! It's our wedding anniversary and my husband knew I wanted steak, so he surprised me with coming here. It was great to know that they had complimentary valet when you dine there. Upon entering we were greeted right away and everyone at the hostess stand wished us a Happy Anniversary. Once seated our waiter came by shortly and introduced himself. D was able to explain the menu to us since it's our first time and also let us know what they had off menu. He answered all our questions and inquiries of recommendations. Although the deviled eggs sounded great, I wanted to the duck confit ravioli to start. The sauce was very flavorful and went great with the mushrooms. For my entree I went with the petite filet which was cooked perfectly and my husband had the New York. We had the bone marrow gravy which was prepared table side. The flavors in that gravy went with anything. I had the lobster Mac and cheese for my side and my husband has the porch hashbrown which he absolutely loved. It had everything he loves from the grilled onions to the green onions. For dessert I of course went with the crème brûlée. It was nice and creamy. The chili sauce made them even better. I had the Louisiana jambalaya redfish and the only thing that really completed it was the crisp risotto cake, otherwise not great. The signature filet, my husband stated that it was a standard cut and that for $65, he could've got a steak at a Longhorn for less of the price & compared taste. From the warm greeting at door, the exceptional food, too extraordinary to list, as I would need to basically recite the entire menu, to the charming, helpful and very knowledgeable server, Blake, I have to say, for my money, this is one of the only, if not THE only restaurant that I have been to, that is perfect. My wife had her birthday while we were in Memphis and we decided to celebrate her birthday dinner at Porch and Parlor...what we had been told was one of the best restaurants in Memphis. And we were quite pleased with our choice...the dinner, service and ambience was all a five star experience. We started off with some bread and cocktails...both were excellent. For our entree...we both ordered the six ounce Wagyu filet accompanied by sides of mac and cheese and collard greens. Steaks were served at the perfect temp and very tender and tasty...and both the mac and collards were very flavorful. The service was beyond exceptional...our server Aiden was amazing...and even the manager stopped in to see how we were doing. Because it was the wife's birthday we also were treated with a delicious cream cake...so good. It's located in midtown in the neighborhood with other midtown favorites such as Lafayette's and Bosco's, in walking distance from shops, Malco Studio on the Square and Hattiloo Theater. Instead of searching for a space or paying hourly, Porch and Parlor eliminates the hassle and provides complimentary valet parking. Upon entry, we were promptly greeted. The restaurant is clean and lighting dimmed to provide a more intimate setting. I like that Porch and Parlor has a larger staff, with each member dressed nice and neat. From observation, the staff supported each other. It was definitely busy, but no one appeared overwhelmed. Our server was really sweet and attentive. I liked her attention to detail, and she took the time to discuss the menu, popular dishes, and what she liked. This is a plus, because "oh I like everything" doesn't pique the curiosity. Porch and Parlor IS a steakhouse, but they also have pork, seafood, chicken, duck, and even elk. For our vegetarian and vegan friends, there are still options. There are soups, salads, eggplant ravioli, and other sides that are meat free. Most restaurants are accommodating to personal and dietary needs, just let them know. We decided to try the Prime Filet Egg Rolls and half portion wedge salad. They were really good, and the chili sauce provided a fresh twist to what could easily taste like a Philly roll. The wedge salad was tasty, with the dressing added a unique flair. For entrées, I got the Wagyu filet and he got the ribeye. These came individually, so we decided on sautéed spinach and lobster macaroni and cheese as sides. The Wagyu was delicious! The crust was perfect, with the meat tender and well seasoned. The ribeye was also nice and tender. For the sides, the lobster macaroni and cheese was awesome. The noodles were tender and it was cheesy without being too creamy. The spinach was ok, but the lobster macaroni was our favorite. We ended our meal with the créme bruleé. The custard was nice without being too sweet, and the crust is an excellent contrast if you haven't had it before. Our server handed us HER individual card for our next visit, and she even took the time to write a personalized message on our anniversary card. Overall, spend to impress. This is a lovely outing, but quality is more the focus than cost. I'll give this one a rating: a tender and lasting touch. I enjoyed Porch and Parlor. We sat at the bar and there were only a few tables in the bar area but I believe there are more tables in another area. I was greeted and immediately seated when I arrived since we had reservations. I was immediately asked for my drink order. They have a vast selection of wine so if that's your thing you're be sure to find your fave in the menu. The bartender also made a powerful margarita!! For starters we had the king crab appetizer and a salad wedge. I must admit that alone filled me up before my entree even arrived. I had the Day Boat Scallops & Braised Oxtail. It was ok. I wanted to try something different outside of steak but wish I had gotten a steak! However the oxtail dish was unique served over grits.
