16 oz flame broiled rib-eye with a side of mushrooms in burgundy sauce. The raw kale should've had a greater purpose than garnish to me?

The 3 of us landed in Nashville & drove 3 hours to Memphis to start our Tennessee visit and we all craved steak! After a bit of study & debate we chose Mesquite Chop House. The surroundings are dark wood floors, red leather booth seating, classic chandeliers & high tin ceilings overhead. Very much a cool prohibition vibe. I started with a Manhattan. Easy choice since they age their own bitters. Delicious! My wife had an espresso martini that she loved (I found it a bit too sweet). My son & I ordered 16 ounce mid rare ribeyes. My wife had the 8 oz filet mignon. All steaks are flame broiled & served with garlic mashed potatoes (changing the side is a $3 charge at the time of this writing). We also ordered 2 Caesar salads. The Caesars was excellent but the croutons were not top notch. The steaks were cooked & seasoned perfectly. Nice sears & allowed to rest before service. Just like home! The mashed potatoes were abundantly seasoned with salt & pepper with an addictive character. I switched my side to the mushrooms & burgundy sauce which complimented the steak and potatoes as I'd hoped. We liberally used the rich mushroom sauce/gravy for steak dipping. We concluded our meal with a slice of shared chocolate cake which hit the collective spot but not much better than average & was served too cold in my opinion. All the servers & kitchen staff were ALL smiles & genuinely welcoming. We really enjoyed our visit & would happily return.

We came in here for a late bday dinner. Our reservations were for 9pm, which we were on time. We all ordered various entrees, various Temps. Our server was an eccentric human, a very strange man. They spent 20mins looking up directions on making me a drink. Yeah and guess what? It wasn't good. Lol Ww also spent a great deal of time discussing what they had run out of on the menu. When our meals came out they were all mixed up as to who had what. I ordered a ribeye med rare, I believe I was served a NY Strip, because the cut was tough like 1 to me. I didn't like my food. The others said their meals were ok, some enjoyed more than others. All of our steak temps were off, a few ppl sent their steaks back. Place only had 2 tables so these mistakes shouldn't have occured IMO. I wouldn't go back.

We came for Memphis Downtown Dining Week, and were not disappointed! Parked right across the street in the "Parking Can Be Fun" garage for $8. The special menu had a variety of proteins and the food was delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive.

I've been in Memphis for just over a year and this was hands down the best meal I've eaten. We started with the spinach artichoke dip. It was delicious. Fresh ingredients and large portion with fresh tortilla chips. The duck... Oh damn was that good. I had been craving duck for a while and this went way above what I was expecting. As for the service, the bartender/waitress we had was so sweet and attentive and made some really good drinks. Don't let the outside scare you away. They are undergoing renovations but are open and cranking out some of the best food in Memphis.

Went here for dinner the day before valentines. Area wasn't busy at all. We parked on the street at the front door. Decor is decent. Booth and table seating. We had the chocolate eruption then steak and chicken pasta. The cake was very good. Food was mid. Husband said the steak tastes like it was created in a lab. The asparagus was yellowing but ok to eat I guess. My pasta portion was large so he filled up on my dish. We left our debit card there and tracked it down days later. They had it safe for us. Thumbs up. We'd come back for the dessert.

I can not believe I have not reviewed Soul Fish as of yet. I am a huge fan…read more Let me preface this review by saying ... My grandfather owned two successful catfish restaurants. As a child I grew up on fried fish filets and hush puppies until my grandfather had to retire and sell his restaurant due to his Health. He still cooks up a mess of catfish for us about two or three times a year when we visit. Yum! My standards for good catfish are extremely high. Good fried catfish is not greasy, light cornmeal batter, tender flaky inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. Sounds simple enough but the truth of the matter is... Good fried catfish takes skill. After an epic searched for any decent catfish in Memphis and surrounding areas that took a few years ... My family and I decided to give up. And when I heard about Soul Fish it took some considerable convincing to get them to go. We where, none of us, disappointed! Soul Fish is without a doubt the best Catfish in Memphis. It is perfectly fried... Hushpuppies are tasty, coleslaw edible if not always yummy, fried pickles crisp and tart, pickle green tomatoes so yummy I could swim in them, and vegetables always cooked and seasons well (special recognition to the cabbage, broccoli, and black eyed peas). The service is always friendly, fast, efficient, and correct. The blackened catfish is pretty tasty too ... Sometimes they get a little heavy handed on the seasoning. Deserts are pretty great as well. My sister loves the Mississippi mud chocolate thingy they have (I'm not a chocolate fan). I've introduced many people (about 40 or so) to Soul Fish - locals and visitors alike - and no one ... And I mean not a single one of them where disappointed. So why four stars instead of five? True... the catfish is the best in Memphis - however it is not the best I've ever had. And Sometimes a filet or two at Soul Fish fall short of perfection... However ... I'm a regular and a fan of Soul Fish Cafe. If you have spent hours and disappointed meals trying to find good catfish in Memphis ... Look no further ... This is the place for you. I promise you will not Be disappointed!

Memphis is a slight detour on our way back to Texas, but there was no way we were settling for fast food along the highway. We wanted good seafood--fresh, satisfying, and worth the stop. So glad we chose this spot. From the outside, it's simple and unassuming. Inside, it feels like a slightly bougie fish cafe--clean, cozy, and well-kept, with subtle holiday decor and that warm Southern hospitality greeting you at the door. Our server, Denise, was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. The one-page menu keeps it simple, and she walked us through it along with the daily special. We ordered the gumbo, salmon burger, and a grilled salmon plate--everything tasted fresh and cooked to order. A perfect seafood meal in Tennessee. We left full, happy, and already planning what to try next time. Definitely a spot worth revisiting.

A prime location for a prime steakhouse. The service was strong as was the pacing. I found the server a bit too eager to explain the restaurant and the menu. I'm a ribeye eater so I had a pretty good idea I was getting a ribeye before I went in. I think the talking is used as a way to upsell and push guests towards opaquely priced off-menu "specials" which from my understanding are always on offer (such as their deviled eggs and bone marrow sauce). We started with the beef tartare and duck ravioli. I preferred the tartare, which had a nice spicy seasoning throughout. The duck ravioli had an excellent sauce on it, too. For our mains, I got the prime boneless ribeye ($68) and my brother got the prime strip ($56). We also shared the Yume A5 Wagyu experience ($225), letting us try three different cuts of Wagyu side by side. For sides (about $15/each), we did the fontina potatoes, truffle honey tots, and carrots. We also added the gulf prawns ($21), foie gras ($14), and bone marrow sauce (~$20) which was prepared table side and was plenty to share. It was very rich and peppery, though a bit of a salt bomb. For dessert, we shared the French toast bread pudding with maple butter ($14) which is one of my favorite bread puddings I've tried. They also brought my brother a dessert since it was his birthday, it was something like a raspberry mousse with coconut foam and a sharp raspberry sauce. Excellent. The Yume experience was a big motivation in coming here, as getting to try cuts of A5 Wagyu next to cuts of regular (albeit prime) beef is unique in the Memphis area and really for hours around. It was priced as an experience rather than a food item. It did not disappoint, nor did the prime steaks. The A5 is so unbelievably tender by comparison. My favorite was the ribeye, but I'm biased. My brother, normally a strip guy, agreed with me there. The potato sides were underwhelming, particularly for the price. I don't know how I let my brother talk me into buying him $15 tater tots for his birthday. I could get the carrots again, though. My total was $800 for the two of us for the above food, six cocktails, and tax and tip. A big chunk of that was the Yume experience as well as the drinks (we were celebrating!). If we were to go back, it would be closer to $350 for the two of us, and I would go for the prime ribeye with foie gras again, no need for Wagyu or sauce. I enjoy the sister restaurants in this restaurant group (Coastal Fish, Flight, Southern Social) and frankly I'd bet Porch is the cash cow of the group due to the relatively poor value proposition. We had a great experience exploring the finest steak and accompaniments one could wish for. But, for my money, Coastal does a pretty good steak too.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!
