We really love the food and the selection of beer, and go most Thursdays for trivia. It's either completely deserted or slammed, I've rarely seen more than 1 server. That said, friendly service and good food. I do wish they had a couple of healthy options on the menu, but the fries are not to be missed. My fave is the patty melt.

I have tried this place a few times, but it just doesn't feel like it's fully put together yet, like they don't have an identity. The best thing on the menu that I found was the tuna nachos. They tried to do a fried okra salad but it had no other texture or flavor besides that and was lackluster. I will say the cocktails and drinks have always been good every time I visit. I'm among the people in midtown who were very sad to see Cafe Society close, and I had hopes for a *little* bit more of a fine dining restaurant than this. Parking is free, I hope they find their footing in the neighborhood. There are a lot of wonderful diverse plays across the street at the evergreen theater, hopefully they will take advantage of that crowd and be inviting and engage with those groups and thrive. This could be a wonderful late night bar and eating spot comparable to Bar Keough, but they close the kitchen at 9:00! For the location it just feels like a bad business plan to close yourself off to the after party crowd.

Friday Special - Steak, garlic mashed potatoes & crunch brussels sprouts

I decided to go here for my birthday with some family. My aunt got the brisket nachos while my mom & I decided on the Friday steak special. The nachos are large enough to share. They are extremely tasty. I do recommend as an appetizer for 3. That would be a perfect start to your wonderful meal. Steak was well prepared & full of tasty goodness. The garlic mashed potatoes & brussels sprouts were just amazing. I would eat these two for lunch any day. To drink, I had the spicy cucumber margarita. This is extremely fresh with a slightly spicy kick. This is my favorite drink they have. They have different events happening throughout the week along with specials. Truly hope this place starts getting its legs & the word out. Chef David is a great man & wonderful cook. The presentation along with taste couldn't be better. He has hired a good staff that is a delight. This hidden gem is just wonderful. OH!!! One little secret for those that live in the neighborhood. They have a small outdoor seating area that is pet friendly. You bet my furry friend & I will be coming up there one day for lunch. Looking forward to my next meal there.

Okra in a salad. This man is a genius. Chef Todd never misses with his dishes. The waitstaff is friendly without being suffocating. The atmosphere is relaxing, unassuming and homey. I'll keep coming back.

Food was great! The chicken was flavorful. Our waitress was super nice and helpful. The ambiance was nice and clean. Love the historic images!

Pleasant service, flavorful food. That said, I feel like this place is still finding itself. At the price point, I don't expect the sprinkling of signs from a cracker barrel or the apps and mains so close together like they are in a rush to turn the table. The dishes and tablecloths also don't make sense at this price point. Everything I ate was on the brink of too salty, but one person in our party felt the party melt was in his top three Memphis burgers. There is potential here for sure, may return to see if they have worked out who they are in a year.

    Food menu

Food was ok. Service was good. Place was quiet. Practically empty on a Saturday around 4:30 and I kind of see why. There wasn't a huge menu selection. I tried the chicken nachos (made with chicken thighs and their queso cheese was not that tasty), wings (no chicken batter), and brussel sprouts (made with nuts and bacon). The best thing were the brussel sprouts. Not a bad restaurant, but I wouldn't visit again, at least not for the food.

    Philly sandwich

Love the twist and variety of menu items! Some of the dishes you won't find anywhere else! We especially loved the masala fries, the cauliflower bites, the patty melt, and chicken sandwich! Good location for anyone in East Memphis, midtown, or downtown!

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

My friend owns a larger catering/events establishment in Georgia and was excited about the menu at the establishment. We walked in (on a whim) and asked if tables were available (clearly we saw some on the patio and inside once we entered). The greeting from the hostess was - let's just say less than inviting. . It was around 7:40p and she said "well since you don't have a reservation, the soonest I can get you in is 8p" ...no problem we will walk around until then. My initial thought, screw this reservation - if the hostess has this type of demeanor, what could we expect in terms of service? As my friend was still excited about the menu and to taste some of the pairings, we decided to wait. At 7:59 (like clockwork), the notice of our table being ready was sent. The hostess seated us and again, I wasn't optimistic of what would occur during the visit. The server that greeted us was GREAT!!! We ordered SEVERAL appetizers and drinks and all were AMAZING - (the grilled avocado with the shrimp was worth the trip alone). For dinner we ordered Peking Duck and Ribeye Steak Salads (and more drinks). Both were amazing. And while the desserts looked divine, there was absolutely no room. We were impressed with the old Beauty Shop decor - it really was a conversation piece. It's small and quaint and we had a lovely chat with the patrons alongside us. The food and service EXCELLENT! I'm glad that I didn't follow my first inclination to leave (because of the hostess and the "curt" demeanor). On a high note, I did notice the hostess being very gracious to the others that she encountered. Maybe it was my cologne - not everyone likes to smell YSL ‍.

THE FOOD & WINE At $65 for a 5-course Chef's Tasting Menu and $35 for the wine pairing, it is a good value. We started with a tasty carrot coriander amuse-bouche from Chef Nate, followed by: * Georges Banks Scallops: Served with tomato gelatin, cured kiwi, and crema. Paired well with a crisp New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. * Sweet Potato Tamale: Topped with spiced mayo, avocado crema, and charred cabbage. The spicy jalapeños and radishes added a bright kick that paired nicely with a blush-colored, floral Pinot Grigio. * Elysian Fields Lamb Cubano: A rich, complex dish featuring lamb shoulder and a fantastic touch of lamb heart (marinated for a week in adobo). Fresh arugula and pickles offset the richness, and the toasted focaccia was an amazing match. Paired with a medium-bodied Grenache that cut through the rich flavors. * Acadian Redfish: Charcoal-grilled with a creamy crawfish hollandaise and light-bodied potato crisps. This is the chef's elevated take on his mother's fish and chips, and it had a nice balance of oil and salt. * Dessert: Finished with a strawberry ice cream terrine and a decadent six-layer carrot cake that was moist, intense, and packed with pistachio crème. * We had a robust 2015 St. Emilion with a medium/heavy body, nice tannins, and age! THE SERVICE * The service was highly attentive, friendly, and earns a solid 4 stars. Sam, the sommelier, was knowledgeable and shared his insights on the pairings (he noted the 3rd and 4th courses were his personal favorites). Special thanks to Daisy for helping us with our first visit, walking us through the tasting courses, and recommending local places. * Because the restaurant ambitiously rotates its tasting menu every 2-3 weeks, it is harder for the staff to keep on top of the tasting menu details (compared to their regular menu items). OVERALL Overall, a fantastic 4-star experience. The culinary creativity and the beautiful dining room make it highly recommended!
