What an incredible find! Totally makes sense why this place is always packed. We tried to get in for an early dinner and luckily just missed the rush. The service was amazing and very fast with both our drinks and food. The portions are obviously generous and the food delish. We just missed the live music but apparently that's a nice vibe if you go later! Overall, great food and superb service!

Me and wife were wanting to get something to eat on Beale st so after checking reviews settled in here. The staff were amazing. We were seated right away and given water. Our waitress hit some highlights on the menu for us and came back to get our order. Since I BBQ a lot I usually am disappointed when I eat bbq out. The ribs here however were really good. We got the platter that also came with the fried catfish which the wife ate and really enjoyed. It came with baked beans, Cole slaw and steak fries. All the sides were fantastic. We also got the skillet shrimp Cajun style and those were good as well. They have a full bar and live music after 7. We ate early so didn't get to enjoy the music. Would definitely go back.

I dined here about 3 times while visiting Memphis. First introduction was on a food tour. We had the infamous ribs, baked beans and coleslaw. The ribs fell off the bone! So I knew I was coming back for more. Then I came back just for dessert to try the apple dumpling. Served hot and bubbly so beware. This wasn't that sweet, so perfect for people who don't have a crazy sweet tooth or don't like overly sweet things. Then I came back for dinner and had the ribs and catfish and the brownie for dessert. The first few ribs I had were delicious but like the last two were on the drier side. The hush puppies it came with were delicious. Now the catfish.. omg so sweet and fried to perfection. The brownie was more my speed, sweeter compared to the apple dumpling. It was warm and gooey with lots of ice cream and fudge sauce! I always sat at the back bar with the tvs and the service was friendly and attentive. Clean bathrooms.

Great BBQ? Depends on who you are. I was in Memphis for a night and asked the bartender where I should go. They said Blues City Cafe, I asked them about central bbq and they said that this place was better. Who am I to argue with a locals recommendation. So that's where we went. This place sits on Beale street and has been around for awhile. The restaurant is clean, and the staff was friendly. It was pretty busy so that is always a good sign. I was there for one thing and one thing only, RIBS! BBQ RIBS! I ordered the full rack of ribs with fries. It came with baked beans and coleslaw. The food came out about 10min or so later. Pretty quick in my opinion. The ribs looked great. They were charred on the top with bbq sauce and the smell was awesome. Now these ribs are fall off the bone ribs. Super tender and juicy but they do fall off the bone. I know that a rib that does that is overcooked but this is how they are made and it works. The ribs had good flavor with the bbq sauce they use, one thing I noticed was the lack of smoke flavor. I'm not sure if they smoke their ribs or not, if they do it's a light smoke or make just cooked over charcoal, not sure. But they did taste good, they were moist and tender, and they were very meaty. The baked beans and coleslaw were average. The beans tasted like Bush's baked beans and nothing amazing about the coleslaw. The fries were steak fries though and they were great. Crispy and hot and salted just right. Overall I think this place is ok. I myself want a smoked rib but these ribs were not bad At all. Also this place is open till 2am or later so it could be a great spot for a late night eat. Happy Eating!!!

The meat was falling off the the bone on my ribs. The chili fries were delicious to my surprise. Everything was surprisingly yummy and we were very impressed because honestly, we thought that this was going to be a tourist trap. From the hostess to the servers, and to some of the staff - service was hit or miss and it appeared that some of the staff had somewhat of an attitude. Also, some of the servers looked like total slobs who do not belong serving food. Otherwise, this place would've got five stars from us.

I used to love this place. Me and the girls would hop in the car and ride down to Memphis. This was always the first stop. Truthfully, I didn't want to eat here. Because it was on a decline last time my husband and I were here. He convinced me to give them another try. I had the cup of gumbo and the chicken strip platter. He got the shrimp. I feel like they fried them together because all of my food tasted fishy. The broth of the gumbo still had the peppery taste I liked from them but the other ingredients were not the best. The toast is still the best thing on the plate. They say is down by the band that was cool. Our waitress, Jordan was efficient. I was just so disappointed. One of my favorite places is now a place I would rather skip.

The ribs are amazing. Great food right on Beale Street. Not busy when we went but the waiter made it seem like they get busy.

When we walked no one greeted us and we did not know whether to be seated are wait for someone. Someone finally came and sat the other couple behind us. The fish was a little light for my taste it still looked like the color of cornmeal. But the taste was okay I only ate one piece and took the rest to go. I didn't like the coleslaw or the potatoes they were to mushy I think they boiled to long and I had to add a lot of salt. I was out of my drink for atleast 7 mins before the waitress came by for me to ask her for another one.

Living in Memphis, I've tried to stay away from Beale St because I didn't see the sense in fighting with tourists and less than appetizing drunk crowds. Our friends came in and wanted to check it out, and it seems I've been missing out on this cute spot. The wait staff was gracious, kind and friendly... even made some recommendations for music that evening. On to the food... gumbo fries were great, seafood stuffed mushrooms flavorful (get extra bread to sop that garlic butter), and the steak was great too. I was really surprised, happily so. Glad the place is such an ambassador for Memphis.

Friendly reception at the door and great wait staff. Recommendations from the server help navigate the huge menu. Gumbo cheese fries were 10 out of 10. (I don't usually like gumbo and I could stop eating these.) Catfish combo and baby back ribs were outstanding. Even the red potatoes were done well. The coleslaw was almost dessert for us - creamy and sweet and chopped into perfect spoonful bites. Greens were good, but the chili is a must!! Kidney beans throughout -- finely ground beef -- poured over the bread or with hush puppies dunked into it was a great meal!

Came on a Thursday around 2:30 it wasn't too packed. It took about 5 minutes overall to be seated and greeted. I thought the service was really good and I got the best meal of Beale that came with half rack of ribs, one piece of catfish , baked beams, coleslaw fries and a piece of bread. I do wish the bread was buttered on both sides and the ribs needed some seasoning but catfish was really good. And it wasn't loud

The tamales and chili were my absolute favorite, of all time I do believe!

Beale Street in Memphis is a tough one for food. It's all around the edges but within the road blocks, where all the lights are, it's a tough one! We found Blues City Cafe because the line outside of BB Kings was too long and it was too cold. So very thankful we did, it was amazing! I will forever crave those little paper wrapped tamales and chili and am kicking myself today for not getting a few orders to go!! The ribs are phenomenal, best we've had anywhere in a long time and BBQ is usually our go to. Steak fries, hot and crispy and a pork chop smokey and tender. Everything about our meal was top notch and our server Shaq made sure the entire experience was one to remember! We'll be back for sure, the tamales are calling my name! Oh, I left a little 3D print keychain, if you find it, let me know on FB at #3DFind!

    Yummy ribs!!

We went here as we saw a review saying they have great ribs.... and the review was right! It looks like a hole in the wall on Beale St, but it was bustling with customers when we went. We sat in the back part so we could get alcohol. Our server was great! He helped us out by mentioning that you can get the ribs for 2.. and it's a lot cheaper than getting 2-half rib dinners! The amount of food... wow! We took it home and had it for dinner another night. The ribs were perfect fall-off-the-bone ribs. Flavor was delicious! We got the new potatoes with our order, but I think next time I'd get the steak fries. Definitely get some ribs here if you're in the area!

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

As a child I grew up on fried fish filets and hush puppies until my grandfather had to retire and sell his restaurant due to his Health. He still cooks up a mess of catfish for us about two or three times a year when we visit. Yum! My standards for good catfish are extremely high. Good fried catfish is not greasy, light cornmeal batter, tender flaky inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. Sounds simple enough but the truth of the matter is... Good fried catfish takes skill. After an epic searched for any decent catfish in Memphis and surrounding areas that took a few years ... My family and I decided to give up. And when I heard about Soul Fish it took some considerable convincing to get them to go. We where, none of us, disappointed! Soul Fish is without a doubt the best Catfish in Memphis. It is perfectly fried... Hushpuppies are tasty, coleslaw edible if not always yummy, fried pickles crisp and tart, pickle green tomatoes so yummy I could swim in them, and vegetables always cooked and seasons well (special recognition to the cabbage, broccoli, and black eyed peas). The service is always friendly, fast, efficient, and correct. The blackened catfish is pretty tasty too ... Sometimes they get a little heavy handed on the seasoning. Deserts are pretty great as well. My sister loves the Mississippi mud chocolate thingy they have (I'm not a chocolate fan). I've introduced many people (about 40 or so) to Soul Fish - locals and visitors alike - and no one ... And I mean not a single one of them where disappointed. So why four stars instead of five? True... the catfish is the best in Memphis - however it is not the best I've ever had. And Sometimes a filet or two at Soul Fish fall short of perfection... However ... I'm a regular and a fan of Soul Fish Cafe. If you have spent hours and disappointed meals trying to find good catfish in Memphis ... Look no further ... This is the place for you. I promise you will not Be disappointed!

I ordered wings and two dry slabs of ribs. When my family and I finally decided to eat the ribs on Monday, they were disgusting. They had seasoning caked all on them, and they were overly salty. We wiped off the caked-on seasoning and tried to eat around the saltiness. I was praying the 2nd slab was not the same. When I opened them on 5/27 to see, they were the same. I was trying to avoid calling because I just didn't feel like being bothered. But I called. I left a message for the manager to return my call that morning because "he is in the middle of an interview." So I called back that afternoon and was transferred to Ethan. I explained the situation to him. As I was speaking, he kept making the noise un-huh. So, I stopped talking and asked him what it meant aside from it just being rude as hell. He went on to explain that they missed a step and did not rub in the seasoning and shake it off. I don't care. It's an internal quality issue that should be handled with the prep and cook staff. Not me. He asked if I had my receipt and, in a tone that suggested he was doing me a favor, advised me that he would replace the slab. No apologies for the inconvenience or anything.   After my long workday, I went all the way downtown to get the slab replaced. In person, Ethan is just as rude. I asked if he was going to replace both slabs. He could clearly see the quality was trash. He said no and that he would only replace one. Then went on to offer me sides and a slice of cake. No, thank you. I can afford sides and cake just like I did those trash slabs of ribs. Those slabs of ribs cost $62.40 before taxes. With taxes probably being another 5 or 6 dollars. Your mistakes and poor quality should not cost me. He had a young lady bring the replacement slab back out to me. She didn't say thank you or anything. One thing I know is that a white man or woman patronizing your business would not have been treated this way. As a result, moving forward I will spend my Black woman dollars elsewhere on barbeque and smoked chicken wings. Also, I removed you all from my company's approved catering list where we spend a nice amount with you all yearly. Tell Ethan, thanks for helping me see the light and not spend money where I'm not respected and where my customer experience isn't valued.

The building has a classic charm with a hint of elegance that elevates the dining experience. Okay, let's get into the food- the southern strawberry cake was absolutely delicious. Each bite took my palate on a joyride of goodness. The mashed potatoes were velvety and delicious- smit was the best mashed potato I've ever eaten. The redfish and crab was the perfect combination. The fish was fresh with just the right amount of flakiness. The cheese grits were very tasty too. Definitely a southern experience worth having.

We attended church in Memphis which ends at 12:30 and bc we live out of state, we had to find things to do for 3 1/2 hrs. We discovered when we arrived that they had opened up reservations an hour early after we booked. I wish that they had first informed those of us who had first reservations so that we could move ours up. We arrived about 20 minutes early expecting to wait until our 4:00 reservation but they seated us immediately. We ordered wedge and harvest salads for our first course and the oyster deviled eggs appetizer. Both salads were very good. I did think the egg were a little bland and I didn't taste the oyster on one of the 4 deviled eggs. The candied bacon topping is what made the eggs overall good. Otherwise l, without the candied topping it was bland. I ordered the pork chop with sweet potato casserole and Brussels sprouts. My dish was very good and enough for me to take more than half for leftovers. (This doesn't mean change the portion bc it's just right.) My husband ordered the fried chicken dish. It was a giant piece of chicken. Fried very nicely but the coating was not seasoned well, if at all, to me. However, he enjoyed his meal and that's what counts. He said the collard greens were absolutely delicious and the mac and cheese was very cheesy and good! He also took home most of his meal. We don't have big appetites so the portions are probably just right for the majority. I took home the lemon pie dessert. I was expecting more of a meringue taste based on the description but it wasn't, so I wouldn't order it again. We ordered the house wine and 1 of the specialty drinks. The staff were very professional and friendly. The manager (I assume) stopped by every table to check on us. The restaurant has very nice ambiance and the tables have a nice amount of distance between them. It looks well maintained and the bathrooms are clean. The price point isn't bad esp for the generous portions. We've eaten at this restaurant a couple of times before over the years, and I still recommend it.

Love the speakeasy entrance off the side alley steps. It's everything you would want in a dining experience. Get the she crab soup!

The vibe felt like a speakeasy turned restaurant. While larger than a traditional speakeasy, it still managed to feel cozy, intimate and inviting. Shortly after we were seated, the restaurant manager stopped by our table. My sister asked for cocktail recommendations... if you're a cocktail fan, you're in for a treat. Their signature cocktails were thoughtfully crafted and exceptionally well-balanced. We went with their spicy margaritas. As for the food, I could have easily ordered a second helping of the Cajun Abita shrimp appetizer and called it dinner. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned, and the sauce was outstanding. The accompanying beer bread was equally delicious...slightly reminiscent of cornbread but with its own unique flavor. My sister and I weren't huge fans of the She Crab Soup. It was simply too rich and creamy for our tastes. One bite was enough for us although my dad seemed to enjoy it. The Blue Window Wedge Salad is their take on a classic wedge which was spectacular. It will be hard to find another wedge salad that measures up. The sweet potato pecan casserole was good but it felt like it was missing something that we couldn't quite put our finger on what. The maple bacon Brussels sprouts were a table favorite...perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. My dad and sister both enjoyed the braised beef, which was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. To finish, we shared the white chocolate bread pudding and it was absolutely delicious. In fact, the table next to us seemed to enjoy theirs just as much. Overall, this was a wonderful dining experience with great service, a memorable atmosphere, excellent cocktails and standout dishes. I'd happily return the next time I'm headed downtown.
