We had a great experience at Bain Barbecue and will definitely be coming back. This was actually my first time really trying their turkey, and they convinced me to give it a shot. I'm glad they did because I loved it so much that I ended up ordering it for my meal. The turkey was tender, juicy, full of flavor, and honestly surprised me with how good it was. We had the turkey with beans, collard greens, pickles, and bread, and everything went together really well. You can tell they put some time and care into the food. The portions were good, and everything tasted fresh. The prices are definitely a little on the higher side for barbecue, but after eating the food, I felt like it was worth it. I would rather pay a little more for something that tastes this good and is done right. My wife and I came toward the end of the day, so they were already sold out of some items, including the fried bologna that we wanted to try. I can't really hold that against them because good barbecue places tend to sell out, especially later in the day. Now it just gives us another reason to come back earlier next time! Ate here for lunch. The staff were very nice and helpful. I had the three meats, brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. All were top tier in my opinion especially the brisket and ribs! The slaw and collards were a nice addition to the meal as well. The graffiti room was cool even if a bit confusing, but you can tell the place the place is well loved. Brisket was pretty pricey ($14 to add on top of nachos versus an extra $5 or so for pulled pork). Mac n cheese was eh. I was on the fence about this place!! When I went they were out of 50% of meat choices . So I was forced to get the brisket which was a 5$ upcharge I wasnt aware of and all that was left was that and pork ribs.. now the brisket and ribs were delicious!! But the greens and macaroni needs some work... overall it was ok. They did have a nice patio out front if you want to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Dined here on a Friday evening around 5 p.m. at the Cooper-Young location. We were honestly surprised that the parking lot was nearly empty since we'd heard so many great things and expected it to be busy on a Friday. We entered through the back entrance and weren't greeted by anyone, so we had to figure out where to order on our own. This is an order-and-pay-first restaurant, which was fine once we realized how it worked. We originally came for the beef rib, but were told it's only available on Saturdays and Sundays. Then we tried ordering the smoked wings--also only available on Saturdays and Sundays. Next, we asked for the wrapped jalapeños, and again were told they're only offered on Saturdays and Sundays. It was pretty disappointing since several of the items we were most excited to try weren't available. I also didn't find the two women behind the counter to be very welcoming, and I felt a bit rushed while ordering. At that point, I was ready to leave, but my husband convinced me to stay and order what was available. We ended up getting the smoked turkey, brisket, jalapeño slaw, and macaroni and cheese. Overall, the food was just average. The brisket was the highlight of the meal, although it could have used a little more flavor. I ended up putting it on the bread with the jalapeño slaw to make a little sandwich, and that was actually pretty good. The smoked turkey was decent, but nothing memorable. The macaroni and cheese, however, was a 2/10 and not something I'd recommend. One thing I did notice was that the food got cold very quickly, so we felt like we had to eat fast. The drink station is self-serve, and there isn't really any table service beyond bringing your food out. Based on this visit, I think the restaurant is a bit overrated. Maybe our experience would have been different if we had visited on a weekend when more menu items were available, but for a Friday evening, it just didn't live up to the hype. I was this many years old when I learned that such a lowkey, EXCELLENT bbq spot existed in Cooper Young. Let's start with the food. My friends got the brisket plate and I got the turkey sandwich. It's a little pricey but worth it! Every bite is flavorful perfection! And my friend also bought banana pudding! IT WAS SO GOOD! I just had a spoonful but I savored it. You order your food and receive it before you sit down, so service is great in that regard. No wait. The restaurant is a house, which (of course) I love. It's Copper Young. What's not to love? The restaurant is cute and casual, I was very warmly greeted and informed about their offerings and what they were sold out of. The Brisket was good almost dry but to be fair I did ask for a leaner cut. We all know more fat equals more juicy flavor. The Mac and Cheese was cooked perfectly but I prefer a little more flavor. It tasted like noodles and bechamel sauce it needed a punch of something. Same with the potato salad a little bland. Not bad, I'm sure some folks like it that way. They added pickled onions and it went perfectly with the brisket, I really enjoyed that together. Now, the Shining Star was the Turkey! Visiting from Oklahoma had was told to give Bain a try. I had some burnt ends, pulled pork, brisket and two ribs and they were all great. The pulled pork has a touch of Carolina BBQ flavor which was very unique and quite delicious. The meat fell off the rib bone and the brisket was superb. The burnt ends were my favorite, flavor and texture were excellent. Steffi and Rachel were very friendly while ordering and gave some great tips on what we should try. A good experience at this up and coming Memphis spot. We got there at 5:50pm on a Friday, and we got the last of their brisket for the day. A good sign to be sure! We ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side of chips (beef fat fried ftw) and a one meat plate (brisket) with rib tip beans and Mac and cheese as the sides. We sat outside on a nice open balcony and enjoyed a selection of 3 bbq sauces with our meal. The mustard sauce was by far the favorite, with the hot sauce lacking in body and the sweet sauce being a bit too sweet. The chips were amazing, the beans could have used more salt and tang, and the Mac was likewise just a touch under flavored. The brisket was fantastic... the perfect mix of lean and fatty. If you want Texas style bbq, the food here is great! I like the setup - when you order at the counter, they quickly portion out each meat and side dish. I also like the patio and decor. My one complaint is that it is definitely pricey. I understand that they have high quality meat, but we paid $65 for this tray and it was barely enough for 2 of us. Mac and cheese and greens were good, but nothing too crazy. The chips had a good flavor and crunch. I'll give em a 7/10 overall. Out of towner who loves BBQ and has tried many from major cities known for BBQ. Tried Bain based on reviews. Initially we were disappointed, but the BBQ is damn good!!! We arrived today/Friday at 5:00 pm and were immediately greeted by friendly employees behind the counter. We were informed they sold out of everything meat except Turkey and Pulled Pork. The three of us all went with pulled pork. I had sides of Tex Twinkie and BBQ Beans. It came with soft sweet sliced bread and pickles and pickled onions. We also order Wings w dry rub and Smoked BBQ. The pulled pork was juicy and full of smoke flavor. You could some pieces w smoke ring! The BBQ Beans were nothing special. Almost tastes like it was from a can. The Tex Twinkie was delicious!!! My companion had the Pulled Pork Nachos with Jalapeno Lime Coleslaw. I tried the coleslaw and it was light and refreshing which balanced well with the pulled pork! The wings were great. The dry rub was liberally spiced and tasty. The Smoked BBQ wings were delicious and covered in their sweet Memphis Sauce. The wings were cooked perfectly! The BBQ sauces on the table were delicious!! My favorite was the Hot BBQ sauce although I also enjoyed the Mustard BBQ sauce. The Memphis Sweet BBQ was on the sweet side of course but was also very good! Bain's BBQ is the full restaurant equivalent of the McDonald's ice cream machine. You want it, you'll order it, but it's never available. This place seemingly never has any barbecue. I can almost understand not having ribs, brisket, and burnt ends available all the time. But they never have anything on Friday and Saturday during dinner hours. And I mean they got nothing. It's not just the barbecue. They inexplicably run out of sides. What's the excuse for not having any sides available? I've visited this place three times. They never have anything.
