I had tried a Central BBQ once before and was not impressed. I held my judgment in case it was just an off day for them. This was the Memphis location. The food was dry and tasteless then. I was excited we were getting one in Southaven. My excitement was short lived. I ordered the half rack of ribs with two sides. My sides were turnip greens and baked beans. It was a "To Go Order" They got off to a bad start after waiting almost 45 minutes to get our food. This place is very slow! Its new so I gave them that. I wasnt real happy about the price of $32 for my half rack with two sides. It got worse after we got home. I pulled my ribs from a little foil lined bag. The ribs were black! I mean these things were completely burnt and so dry I couldnt even eat them. For that kind of money I would never do that to a customer! The sides were in these little baby cups like what you might get for extra sauce. I could not believe how small the sides portion was. The beans were the best part of my meal and thats not saying much! Especially since there were about three good bites in the thimble sized container. The greens lacked any kind of seasoning and were very bland. To sum things up. This was by far the worst meal I have had in a very long time. I think this is my first one star review. Fires time here and it reminds me of a Bbq place we have here in St Louis. The place is immaculately clean and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They have a nice variety of food and side options so you can surely fine something you like. Had the Pulled Pork plate with 2 sides and it was great . The lord was smoked perfectly and ok so tender and the mild sauce was the best. Potato salad was good and the bbq beans were fantastic. Employees are not wearing gloves with touching and cooking food I saw one of the employees brushing their teeth in the restroom. My aunt ordered food from here and got sick from the ribs her doctor said a slight case of food poisoning. I am never disappointed when I come here. I got the smoked sausage and Brisket sandwich. It was so tender the brisket and the sauce was really good I like that it had a bit on it but they had it on the side too. We did carry out but it was delivered pretty quickly and the packaging was sturdy. read more

First of all, the food was very good. I honestly don't remember ever being disappointed at any of their locations. The service was very quick and efficient as well. Now on to my complaint. The Chairs!!! whatever genius thought to buy those awful metal chairs and put them in this giant concrete floored echo chamber was nuts. The sound of the chairs constantly being dragged back and forth is tooth rattling, bone jarringly Horrible. I was having lunch (05/15/2024) with two coworkers. Our lunch conversation was constantly interrupted by the Screaching or Banging of those crazy chairs. Usually being handled by an Employee. You would think they would have realized how terrible the sound was by now! Long story short, we will definitely try someplace a little less LOUD next time. read more

Looking for poor customer service? I highly recommend the Southaven Central Barbecue location. I placed a to-go order for pulled pork bbq nachos and what I received was less than satisfactory. I got all the way home and took a single bite only to find that there was hair embedded throughout the nachos. Disappointing and disgusting but it wasn't the end of the world. It could be fixed, right? I called back to inform the staff that I would bring the order back to them, they said ok, and that was the end of that exchange. On the way back to the restaurant, I received a call saying that my replacement order was ready - a replacement order that I did not ask for. I told the young lady on the phone that I didn't want the replacement but a refund would be great. She passes the phone to a manager who lets me know that since they remade the order(again, I never asked for a replacement) they wouldn't be able to issue a refund but they could offer me a 5-dollar credit towards my next visit since it would be a loss for them. A loss for them? What about my loss? I live about 15 minutes away and was driving back to the restaurant only expecting to receive the money that was paid. My expectations were communicated to the manager and I think that was more than fair considering. Instead, the manager believed I should be more sympathetic to their loss than my own. The manager then told me that she did not have time to argue on the phone all night and that I could accept or leave what she was offering. I decided to leave it along with my faith in her as a manager/leader. If she was incapable of handling this situation properly, I know that she can't be setting a positive example for her employees. I am aware that this kind of incident can happen anywhere at any time but the way it was handled by the manager was unacceptable. One piece of hair is a mistake but multiple pieces of hair is a sign of gross negligence and unsanitary conditions in their kitchen. Refunding my order would have been the right thing to do but she was more concerned about her loss at that moment instead of seeing the bigger picture. Losing return customers because of poor customer service will cost you more than those nachos cost me. I will never be back read more

Although this place was recommended to us, I was still surprised at how good it is. I thought it was a regular sit down restaurant; it's not. You order at the counter, then they bring the food to you, clear away your plates, refresh your drinks, etc. Everything a sit down restaurant does except take your order at the table. I had a pulled chicken plate with fries and beans, my coworker had the brisket, and my other coworker had ribs with fries and beans. The chicken was the tenderest, juiciest chicken I have ever had. Here in town for a business trip. You have to grab bbq at least one night so I chose Central BBQ. I chose wrong. It was one of those "as soon as you look at it you know it's not going to be good" moments. I ordered quite a bit to get a bite of everything. The brisket - hard and dry. The pulled chicken - dry. The ribs? Dry and saucy which is an incredible accomplishment actually. Had a bite of the smoked bologna- it wasn't dry! Just mid though. Best thing was the sausage and the fries. I spent quite a bit but it's reimbursable so I'm not mad. But I gotta find a different bbq joint to get the memory of this place out of my mouth. Sometimes great other times not so great We have been here several times for take-out dinner. We have only ordered bbq sandwiches each time. It has been hit or miss. Sometimes it is 100% on target. BBQ nachos very generous with the toppings. I know the smoke is the sauce but I really like the mustard sauce and had that on my bbq chicken sammich. Also made sure to have the slaw on the sammich because. That's all, because. 1 kid had hot dogs and fries (boooorrringggg) and 2 other members had smoked sausage. One had greens with his.
