I recently visited 1836 DeSoto and found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. The lunch atmosphere felt more blue-collar, which wasn't an issue for me--I was simply observing the clientele during my visit. The food was decent, though not particularly memorable. Everything we ordered was cooked well, but the main issue was the seasoning. The catfish, in particular, was lacking flavor, although the sides were seasoned nicely. The other items we tried followed a similar pattern--well-prepared but needing a bit more seasoning to really stand out. I originally came specifically for the gumbo, but unfortunately, it wasn't available at the time. Overall, I would still recommend giving the restaurant a try. read more

If this is considered a "neighborhood" restaurant, there's no wonder for sale signs are all in the area. I had to explain to the millennial who picked up our food what Joe Pesci said in "Lethal Weapon 2" in regard about the drive-thru. Needless to say, he never heard of Joe Pesci or "Lethal Weapon."
