    Zydeco Shrimp and French Fries
    Boyd B.

I absolutely love this place. Cajun inspired food served by great people in a cozy dining spot. They have some local favorite beers on tap, as well as Michelobe Ultra but that's just the start. Boudin Balls, Etouffee, oysters, oysters, oysters!!! If you're looking for something different and aren't scared of a little Cajun Heat, check this place out. You won't regret it...and thank me later for recommending the Zydeco Shrimp.

    Old, hard, fishy, overcooked oysters!

Hard, old, fishy, overcooked oysters. Called to speak with management and was told only one of them was hard and old. I could barely get the oyster out of the shell. They offered to remake them but I think I'll pass.

    Shrimp and grits were amazing!!

Fast service, great food. We will definitely return! We had shrimp and grits, boudin balls, and roast beef po boy, all were top notch!

This place is inspired by New Orleans cuisine, but I don't really get that from the food. I'm not saying the food is bad, but it doesn't give me Nola vibes. I had the catfish po boy and my wife got wings the 1st time we got food from there. The Zydeco wings were gamey and the po boy was just okay. I was craving catfish, so I went back and ordered 2 pieces of catfish for a total of $10. The 2 catfish filets were just a whole filet that was cut in half. Thankfully, the kitchen was feeling generous that day and threw in an extra piece of catfish. The fish was very-well seasoned. So much so, that putting hot sauce on it made it too salty for my liking. I added tater sauce as well, but it really didn't need it. It was seasoned that well! There was a slight burnt after taste as if the filets had been cooked in grease that got too hot and burned or had just been used for a while. I'll likely go back to some of the more traditional New Orleans food such as etouffee. Based on my experience so far, I think the food is decent. Hoping that trying more dishes will cause me to give a higher rating in the future.

Our first time, out of towners, stopped and placed our food order with the most friendliest and helpful staff. Food was awesome, flavor was good, and the ambience was welcoming. We'll be back again.

We were in Memphis for the weekend and decided to try this place with New Orleans style seafood. They did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and our server checked on our table many times to ensure we had what we needed. We had the Boudin Balls for our appetizer which were fantastic. Great flavor not too spicy, just right. For entrees my wife had the grilled shrimp and potato salad which she enjoyed very much. She doesn't like her food real spicy so it was a good choice for her. I had the Zydeco Shrimp appetizer as my entree. I have to say it was very spicy so be aware when you order. It is a shareable plate and that helped. Atmosphere was pleasant and not noisy. We could hear ourselves talk. If we ever get back to Memphis we will eat here again!

I guess I like this place... I seem to keep coming back fairly often. We've been here a bunch of times and I've never reviewed it because I have never had back to back, good meals. I do not like giving poor reviews, especially to locally owned places I feel like it's still that way and at that pace I'd never review them. Inconsistent is the best way to describe it. If you look through my pics you can see it. Nothing even looks the same in most cases. You get something you like, then the next time it's not good. Sadly, I have never had a decent bowl of Red Beans here after several attempts. Again with the inconsistency, it's never been the same. The time it tasted the best, it was cold. Ugh. One time is more like chili with no meat. They dice up the sausage, you can hardly tell it is there. Fries are usually pretty good, I will say that. They were hand cut the last times I have had them, and fresh every time. That is the constant. Bravo Gumbo is a 3/5 most of the time. Just don't love their version. Side note, it's starting to feel like I'm bashing, but I promise I like this place. They have the worst blackened catfish I have ever had. I think at some point I coined the phrase "stained catfish" as a result, because it sure isn't blackened. It's more like "whitened", don't come at me for that, it's how I feel. You used to be waited on my the owner and his wife initially. I have not seen them in a while. Super nice people, I hope they are doing well here. My last visit was a bit strange. There was a person who greeted at the table, gave me menus, and brought the drinks. Then they stood up front while the other person tried to handle taking all of the orders. Super inefficient. They should just split the place and take care of folks start to finish. I waited excessively to place my order and to pay when I was ready to go. It looks like they have recently spruced up the interior or maybe I am just seeing things, but it looks good and has always been clean. I'll keep coming back. Maybe I should try a burger?!?!? I have been here a few times, posted 2 years ago. Last time I was here a guy told me to try the blackened lake pontchatrain and today I did and I think we found desoto county's best dish!

Yelp led me here after landing at MEM on my way to the Sip. It's in a strip center with parking in front. It was lunch time and almost 1 pm and it was busy but I managed to snag a table. I ordered the Peacemaker Po Boy with shrimp and oysters and homemade fries for $18. While waiting I noticed the bar area with beer on tap. My food came out about 10 minutes later. The Po boy was dressed and had plenty of seafood. There was more shrimp than oysters on my loaf. It was all good but those oysters rocked. Would love to come back and order an oyster po boy only. The fries were hot and kind of crispy. I enjoyed them too, The manager waited on me and did a good job with plenty of humor. The Yelp reviews are correct here. This is a very good place to eat. Friendly staff and crowds. I can tell locals live it here. I see why. P.S. loved the restroom signage!

If I am being honest, they were better off in the truck. It had better visibility. It was right there on 178. You can't find this place even if you really want to. There is no sign in the parking lot, on the building, on the door to the entrance, nothing at all. In fact, the day we came, there was a freaking fish fry in front of their door that blocked access. I thought my wife was wrong, apparently she follows them on some shit and knew the speakeasy password. It was also actually cooler outside (outside temp was 94) than inside this place. We ate at the bar and I almost melted. It may have been that devil salsa that also contributed some as well. Anyway, my point is, eating in my car is more comfortable than inside here any day until November comes. The family is nice, I have always loved this place and Frutanas as well. The dude that waited on us was nice too. Not nice enough to wipe my sweat. Speaking of... loose ass Waffle House style napkins are not the move OTTC!! I want them to thrive but between the no signage and obvious ongoing A/C issues this and all places in the brick barn are having, it's gonna be tough. Should put the damn trailer in the parking lot at least. Geez. Food was decent. I liked the cheese dip, other dips were meh. Burrito was not as good as the truck version. Salsa isn't as good as the trucks. Beans were old and stiff. Four starts because they are good people. Needs improving all around. '24 - 57/100

Food was fine, the experience and just the vibe was pretty cool. Exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. I'll definitely come back but will probably go with something more "basic" like tacos or a burrito. I had chilaquiles with steak and egg. Eggs were cooked exactly how I asked (over medium). As often occurs the cut of meat for the steak isn't the best cut of steak on the cow so while it wasn't chewy and gristly it wasn't tender and juicy either. Same with the wife's carne asada - we've both had better steaks at other Mexican places around here. The pork rind wagon wheels (I think that's what they were) were good but we got an order of chips and salsa as well ($5.99!!!) because one of the kids wasn't going to touch those wagon wheels no way no how. The salsa is very good - it's the red and the green mixed with pico de gallo and is quite spicy. All in all the experience and the vibe of the place was better than the food but I'm hopeful some different things off the menu would lead to a better eating experience. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine just not great and with the total bill hitting 95 bucks it wasn't worth that. But I will be back to try the street tacos or burritos.
