Everyone was full and happy after our meal. The flavors were incredible. The calabacitas were beautifully seasoned in a light tomato based sauce - both my husband and I actually said "wow!" out loud with the first bite. We eat a lot of Mexican food, were from California and travel to Mexico frequently and even so this place stands out for the flavor, quality, and care put into the food. I regret not ordering a wider range of menu items to share because the narrow slice of offerings we tried were heavenly. Beyond the food, I love the warmth of this small restaurant, my kids got lollipops from the waitress while we waited for our takeout order. There were lots of families with kids eating in and it was a really nice relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

But I thought that wasn't how reviews should go. So then in my head I started justifying all the ways I could make this 5 star. But - it just wasn't. My food was...okay. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It was a cool place with grocery items in addition to the restaurant. I'll go back. I'm a sucker for hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants. But my carne asada is probably 3 star. However, the salsa that came with our chips and salsa order was fire! Fresh, spicy, flavorful, colorful. The meal was expensive and just all right. But we shall return I suspect.

The pork rind wagon wheels (I think that's what they were) were good but we got an order of chips and salsa as well ($5.99!!!) because one of the kids wasn't going to touch those wagon wheels no way no how. The salsa is very good - it's the red and the green mixed with pico de gallo and is quite spicy. All in all the experience and the vibe of the place was better than the food but I'm hopeful some different things off the menu would lead to a better eating experience. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine just not great and with the total bill hitting 95 bucks it wasn't worth that. But I will be back to try the street tacos or burritos.
