Chorizo and egg. A breakfast must-try.
    Perry M.

This humble little taco stand inside a gas station convenience store ranks high on my list of must-stops anytime I'm in the Memphis area. I always get an egg and chorizo breakfast taco or two. And lots of napkins. Tony crafts his tacos with skill and affection and I always leave full and with a smile on my face.

    Tamales to go!

Don't know knock Gas Station restaurants until you've tried them! We read so many reviews and knew we had to visit Tony's Tacos for lunch. It was a Saturday and they were pretty busy. We dined in and split the Asada plate with beans and WOW! It blew me away. For dessert we had the churros and while I'm not a churro expert - it was the best I've ever had. It was crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. We had a long chat with Tony and learned his history. He graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary College. He works along side his wife of over 30 years. They are adorable. Looks can be deceiving when you drive up to a gas station and that is where the restaurant is nestled. The chips, queso with chorizo - phenomenal and the "Diablo salsa" I wish I could buy by the gallon. Flavorful with a warm habenero burn on the back end. You cannot go wrong here with anything you get. I was told their breakfast was to die for but we arrived too late and they are closed on Sunday. Thank you, Tony, for taking time to speak with us and for the fantastic food! So savory and delicious! Definitely worth a visit and if you live locally, I imagine you will be a regular after your first meal. Enjoy!

So the chips aren't free actually. They're $6. I guess if Tony's there you may get a free order. Ring the cowbell if nobody is there. Usually they're in the back and on the phone so ring it loud and proud. The burritos have no beans and rice which is great for us. That means more meat. And I think there's more meat in his burritos than other places. Bring cash and pay at their counter as there's no tax added. Otherwise you gotta go to the convenience store side to pay. And there's tax. Tacos are small. Like two bites small. At least the corn tortillas ones are like that. I recall the flour ones are slightly bigger but also cost about a buck more. Tamales were ok. Not the best I've ever had though. But ok. Burrito and quesadillas were good. I like how they put the sear on the tortillas. Staff isn't really engaging other than Tony. I think there's a language barrier. There's a Filipino girl there who's like second in command behind Tony, who comes off as a bit gruff. But actually when you get to shooting the sh*t with her she's ok. The hot sauces are 2 per order. Then it's $0.25 per container after that. And the containers are pretty darn small. On top of that, they are only half way filled too. I don't get the pricing for those. Usually it's free at other places. Maybe a lot of wasters in Collierville so they had to implement the charge. The price is what keeps me from coming here more often. I mean, I'd easily take a $5 craving box at Taco Bell (contains taco, chalupa, 7 layer burrito, cinnamon sticks and soda) for almost the same price of just one pretty small taco here. It's nice for a change of pace and taste. But I can't justify coming here more often unfortunately. Tony don't get greedy. Keep it real and we'll keep loving you.

Tony's Tacos is LEGIT! Yelp Don't Lie! Thank You Yelpers! Without you, I would have never known that inside this gas station (Collierville Express Mart) is an authentic Mexican restaurant (albeit very tiny) that serves food so flavorful -it can easily compete with the best in town! I can confirm: + Food is GOOOOOD! + Nice Menu Selection/Variety (appetizers, street tacos, medudo, lots of meat choices -including BIRRIA!) + Service is fast! + They call out your name when it's done (good time to give my alias -LOL!) + Cash saves time (or you have to take ticket to gas station attendant) + Clean appearance + More drinks available from gas station convivence store + Very friendly workers/cooks & Spanish speaking + Handwritten menu -marker/poster style + A few tables set up in this gas station + RESERVATIONS ARE NOT REQUIRED! Note: * The red salsa was not my favorite, but won't stop me from coming back * Cashier at Collierville Express Mart was also pleasant I'LL BE BACK ! ! !

This was my first time visiting Tony's tacos. How this has been here so long and I've never tried it, is beyond me. Y'all - Tony us a jewel! If you don't want to come here for the food, come here for the company. When Tony has the time, he loves to come out and visit with his guest. He was full of joy and knowledge, we loved talking with him and learning about his eatery. They make everything from scratch every day. His spot is family owned and operated. They have genuine real Hispanic food - and for my Hispanic heart - this was like a taste from home. The salsa and guacamole was so spot on, the chilaquiles were amazing... great flavor and the tortillas are delicious! Phenomenal job!!! I can't wait to get some tamales.... My friend got the street tacos. She gobbled them right up, too. Tony also brought us out some churros too... they were PERFECT! Crunchy cinnamon on the outside and soft filling on the inside... I was blown away! You have to come early, they don't have a lot of seating. This is attached to a gas station. So it is also loud inside. Know what you're getting with the environment, but I promise the atmosphere is like being at home. Tony is one of the Memphis Treasures! I will be back soon.

    Tamal de pollo verde

Me dieron salsas hechadas a perder. La lengua estaba muy dura y un tamal q me dieron estaba destrozado y no sabía bien

BEST TAMALES Still loving the authentic Mexican place in Collierville. They also do catering! Cash is faster but you can pay with card. You just have to pay up front and bring the receipt back to the restaurant. It's a quick process and since you may need to wait a bit for your food it's not much of an inconvenience. I was surprised by the fact that I liked their chicken taco. They've added some delightful seasoning to it that makes it delish! The al pastor taco was good but I've had better. I really loved the salsa verde! The Mexican Rice has that wonderful made-from-scratch look that I love so I had to try that too. The tamal was legit but it wasn't the kind I liked so I'll skip it next time and try the cheese one next time. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of the tamales de puerco because usually I'm not a big salsa roja fan but MAN was I wrong. The tamales here are PHENOMENAL. Like I think I want to try all their tamales now because of this one. It was just the best. To Try: Tamal de Rajas con Queso Quesadilla de Pollo Torta Rice Bowl al Pastor Loved: - Mexican Rice - Salsa Verde de Aguacate - Taco: Chicken - Tamal: Puerco (mixed with more salsa rojo) (FAV) Liked: - Quesadilla: del Pastor - Taco: Carnitas Ok: - Drink: Horchata - Quesadilla del Pastor - Taco: Pastor - Tamale: Chicken

I thought I would give this place a try since they had a rare 5 star rating. It didn't look promising when I arrived. A Mexican restaurant in a gas station? The clerk was a bit surly when I paid for my to go meal. I said to myself, this is going to have to be really good for me to go back again. Then I got home and tried it. The verdict? Perhaps the best taco I have ever had. The beef has a wonderful full flavor that pleasantly surprised me. A complex elevated experience. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

    Mark H.

First off let me say that I live in Memphis and for me to drive 30 mins to eat here really is all I need to say. I ordered a burrito and a taco and I have to say the hospitality and food were out standing but what really made me make a whole yelp account and write a review is the presentation in which Tony delivered it. I have never seen anything like this before. This is really the best of both worlds. Authenticity and quality. Well done Tony keep up the great work and food.

Do they make breakfast tacos or burritos?

They had a limited (but still yummy) selection. I ordered a steak taco & a tamale for breakfast. I'll post a pic.

Best Flautas Ever! I…read morereally enjoy coming here. It's one of our favorite Mexican places now. Most of the things I've gotten here have been excellent. The flautas are just the best and it's my mom's favorite thing, too. Hubby has found his new fav burrito here so we come here often. I'm excited to try more stuff. The mixed drinks are pretty good as well. I don't know why but I cannot stand the corn tortillas here. They have a very off-putting smell to me. We tried the Margaritas Chicken Dip and I felt like there was way too much chicken and not enough queso. I think we will try the version without chicken next time and see if we like it better. I do love that this place has such an extensive menu because I'm always finding something different I want to try. We have both fallen in LOVE with the Gringo Quesadillas here. Joel prefers the chicken option but I am obsessed with the al pastor version. The steak version is meh (we got it by mistake once). The salsa is what really makes it. They bring a salsa for you to dip it in and put a little in the quesadilla itself. It's AMAZING. It's pretty much all we have been getting lately. The Pollo Borracho is good but it's got such a strong flavor that it's best eaten with tortillas to mellow it out a bit. The taco salad was pretty good. I really liked the flavor of the shell. It doesn't reheat that great but it's still decent. The baja taco had no flavor and fell apart to easily to eat. The quesetaco de puerco had too much fat on it. The quesetaco del pollo also had no flavor. The Chimichanga Casera tastes like nothing but tortilla and cheese. You can't even taste the meat. Same with the Fajita Quesadailla. I like the chicken option but the one with all the meats just mainly tastes like cheese. I disliked the Camarones Don Jose because they left the tails on the shrimp and the shrimp itself wasn't flavored, the bacon and cheese were just it. It was meh for me. The Pollo Bravo doesn't have much flavor other than cheese. I like onions and mushrooms but it felt like it needed more veggies. The Anaconda is fun and I would love to eat it with a group. Hubby and I liked it but it had too much rice inside to the point where it was dry. It benefitted from some queso. The shrimp fajitas come with the shells on them??? My sister got it and mentioned you can ask them to deshell it I think. Or she mentioned that she forgot to order something different. IDK but I would never want to eat that and have to fight for me food so I'll never get that. It was pretty busy when we went on a Wednesday evening and that showed us some promise. I am from Arizona so I know good Mexican food. We walked in and sat down right away. I brought my hydro flask water bottle inside and didn't order a drink from our waitress. Another lady came up after and said I couldn't have outside food or drinks inside and I told them it was just water and she rudely said if I didn't take it outside I couldn't stay. This literally blew my mind. It's water. And to threaten my presence over a cup is wild. This introduction did not leave me with any optimism for the food. They give you chips and salsa with individual cups for salsa which I do appreciate. Both were fine but the salsa tasted like Pace from a jar. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, however my order was wrong. I got the pick 3 combo with rice and beans. I picked a beef quesadilla, a chille relleno and a fried tamale but the tamale was relaxed with some kind of stuff poblano pepper. Both stuffed peppers were terrible and I didn't eat them. The meat inside was soft and mushy and the sauce on the top had way too much going on. The quesadilla had good cheese but the "shredded beef" was really like a soft roasting meat that had no salt. I think I only ate the rice and beans and 1/3 of the quesadilla and took all of the toppings out of it. Overall a terrible experience and I would never return if I lived here.

I got the Fresco bowl I think its called, no protein. Bland, the little bit of guacamole they had ion there? No taste. The flight of salsa was so so. Hubs wanted to try a margarita. That was the best thing about the whole experience. $70 later for two people the only thing we have to show for it was my hubs waking up from sleep later on sick-three times. He ate nothing else after our lunch besides fruit so you do the math. So yes, our first time will be our last. My daughter has been here with friends and said the only thing she enjoyed was her drink so this may just be a good place for drinks.
