Barely filled Chori Queso with majority of peppers

I've been here so many times and have had a 4/5 star experience every time but tonight just wasn't there day. My food was lukewarm but the plate was extremely hot, I ordered a chorizo dip to go and should've check it when they brought it but trusted them a little too much and took it home. Keep in mind chorizo dip is only meat and queso and also I've ordered their dip in the past and never was done this dirty ever.. a rip off of mostly peppers

I am sorry to say that this is my update. I am being nostalgic and super gracious with the deuces. I have had a few Yelp friends bookmark this place and actually let me know that they had. They all had hopes of getting a 5 star visit as I described in my previous review. I wish I could stand behind my rating. This leads me to right now. It sucks! Unfortunately, I have to quote "Rose Royce" at this moment "You abandoned me, love don't live here anymore". "Just a vacancy, love don't live here anymore". Everything about this place sucks now. Service, food, drinks, and the overall upkeep has dwindled away into shitville. This isn't a one time I am mad review. I am sad to say this at least five times in succession that I have had a horrible visit. You name it, I've dealt with it here. It will be a while before I'm talked into returning. Rancho Grande and El Mezcal are just down the road. I haven't written a review for either of them. It's probably time to branch out.

Poblano pepper. Nice and hot, but barely enjoyable.

There were some good things about my lunch today. There were some things not so good, but there was nothing terrible. For cleanliness and appearances, I'll go all the way with 5 stars. Not necessarily a 5 star dining room, but it is nice enough. And it's well kept. My hot sauce bottle was even clean when I took the top off. Service was fine. The food temperatures were great. I absolutely love that the salsa was at room temperature. Why serve warmed chips with 35* salsa? Don't make no sense. Think about it. Tomatoes, cilantro, onions, everything can sit out on the counter. Salsa doesn't have to be refrigerated if it's made fresh. If it's cold, that means it's been stored in the refrigerator for a long time. The chips were a tad thin. I've had better. I was pulling a trailer today and parking was great. I was in and out in about 30 minutes. That's a good thing. The poblano pepper was below average. The ground beef had been through a food processor and it was watered down. There wasn't much cheese in it. The pepper itself was just a piece of a pepper and wasn't that great. Didn't look great either. The breading on it was soggy. Also, who puts potatoes in these? Surprisingly, the potatoes were the best part of it. The rice was average, but why serve that lettuce crap with a poblano? Maybe with a chimichanga or a quesadilla, but not a poblano. Not good at all really, but I've had worse. Still better than Hardee's or Wendy's but well below average for Tex Mex. I'd be at 2 stars if it weren't so nice and clean, and if the food temperatures weren't so perfect.

But I thought that wasn't how reviews should go. So then in my head I started justifying all the ways I could make this 5 star. But - it just wasn't. My food was...okay. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It was a cool place with grocery items in addition to the restaurant. I'll go back. I'm a sucker for hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants. But my carne asada is probably 3 star. However, the salsa that came with our chips and salsa order was fire! Fresh, spicy, flavorful, colorful. The meal was expensive and just all right. But we shall return I suspect.

Food was fine, the experience and just the vibe was pretty cool. Exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. I'll definitely come back but will probably go with something more "basic" like tacos or a burrito. I had chilaquiles with steak and egg. Eggs were cooked exactly how I asked (over medium). As often occurs the cut of meat for the steak isn't the best cut of steak on the cow so while it wasn't chewy and gristly it wasn't tender and juicy either. Same with the wife's carne asada - we've both had better steaks at other Mexican places around here. The pork rind wagon wheels (I think that's what they were) were good but we got an order of chips and salsa as well ($5.99!!!) because one of the kids wasn't going to touch those wagon wheels no way no how. The salsa is very good - it's the red and the green mixed with pico de gallo and is quite spicy. All in all the experience and the vibe of the place was better than the food but I'm hopeful some different things off the menu would lead to a better eating experience. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine just not great and with the total bill hitting 95 bucks it wasn't worth that. But I will be back to try the street tacos or burritos.

The exterior doesn't look like much, but inside it's nice, comfortable, and casual. If you're in the area, this joint is worth a stop. Olive Branch newest Taco SENSATION!!…read more Just kidding, they have been here a while. These fine folks were formally know as "Tacoholic", maybe they still are in the truck, not sure. If I am being honest, they were better off in the truck. It had better visibility. It was right there on 178. You can't find this place even if you really want to. There is no sign in the parking lot, on the building, on the door to the entrance, nothing at all. In fact, the day we came, there was a freaking fish fry in front of their door that blocked access. I thought my wife was wrong, apparently she follows them on some shit and knew the speakeasy password. It was also actually cooler outside (outside temp was 94) than inside this place. We ate at the bar and I almost melted. It may have been that devil salsa that also contributed some as well. Anyway, my point is, eating in my car is more comfortable than inside here any day until November comes. The family is nice, I have always loved this place and Frutanas as well. The dude that waited on us was nice too. Not nice enough to wipe my sweat. Speaking of... loose ass Waffle House style napkins are not the move OTTC!! I want them to thrive but between the no signage and obvious ongoing A/C issues this and all places in the brick barn are having, it's gonna be tough. Should put the damn trailer in the parking lot at least. Geez. Food was decent. I liked the cheese dip, other dips were meh. Burrito was not as good as the truck version. Salsa isn't as good as the trucks. Beans were old and stiff. Four starts because they are good people. Needs improving all around. '24 - 57/100
