I had such a terrible experience here and am so disappointed about it cause our coworkers said it was great. It was pretty busy when we went on a Wednesday evening and that showed us some promise. I am from Arizona so I know good Mexican food. We walked in and sat down right away. I brought my hydro flask water bottle inside and didn't order a drink from our waitress. Another lady came up after and said I couldn't have outside food or drinks inside and I told them it was just water and she rudely said if I didn't take it outside I couldn't stay. This literally blew my mind. It's water. And to threaten my presence over a cup is wild. This introduction did not leave me with any optimism for the food. They give you chips and salsa with individual cups for salsa which I do appreciate. Both were fine but the salsa tasted like Pace from a jar. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, however my order was wrong. I got the pick 3 combo with rice and beans. I picked a beef quesadilla, a chille relleno and a fried tamale but the tamale was relaxed with some kind of stuff poblano pepper. Both stuffed peppers were terrible and I didn't eat them. The meat inside was soft and mushy and the sauce on the top had way too much going on. The quesadilla had good cheese but the "shredded beef" was really like a soft roasting meat that had no salt. I think I only ate the rice and beans and 1/3 of the quesadilla and took all of the toppings out of it. Overall a terrible experience and I would never return if I lived here. read more

Was in the area for an appointment and decided to stop in for lunch. We didn't dine in, we took our meal to go, so I can't speak to the ambiance. The food was good, the tacos were generously sized and filled with meat. The tacos were a bit heavy on cilantro for my liking, but I sure did eat them. Ambiance is a riot of bright colors, which sets the ambience. This place was packed when I went with a friend for lunch! Margs are H-uge, I ordered a medium and it was like a fishbowl lol. Good strawberry flavor, decent pour strength. Had some queso blanco with warm chips that was delicious. I thought the portion size looked small when it came out but it was deceptively perfect. I ordered a steak and onion option which came on a flour tortilla and I added mushrooms and a side of sour cream. Steak was very thin and a little gristly, but seasoned very well. A friend recommended this place and said it's one of the best Mexican Restaurants in Collierville. So we thought we'd give it a shot. We came on a Saturday and upon arrival we got seated immediately even tho it looked busy. The service was AMAZING and the lady assisting us was very sweet and had honest recommendations. We ordered carnitas tacos that were larger than your average taco and were so delicious! The sauce that came with them paired perfectly and had a very unique flavor. The michelada was also good, and had a lemony flavor. Overall it was a great experience, and would definitely come back for the tacos :) read more

My server Pamramo was rude to me. She had expression ; Oh no or I don't want you here. I never saw a burrito puff up with air like that , it has very, very, very small amount whole bean, rice, chicken. It was call "special burrito's." Nothing special about it. A leaf lettuce with one whole slice tomato, tiny amount cheese (a tip of a teaspoon) and sour cream on side. Were they saving food for other order, cutting cost? It wasn't authentic Mexican burrito's , begin from south west United State. I know different how a burrito should taste ant thickness. It wasn't worth $14.99. I order a side of bean (uncooked) and rice (bland) to add inside of burrito. I didn't want to eat anymore. She finalize my payment with out me knowing. I still wrote in a tip (18%). The next day I look at my bank statement It show a pending amount. My bank paid addition fee. I was polite, explain the beans were hard, no the food wasn't right. Salsa tasted like they washed a dog in it. Chips were old. Service was awful. We stood there while they chit chatted for 5 minutes before they even acknowledged that we walked in the door. Wayyyyy overpriced for the quality of food. They charge an additional 15% liquor tax on their gross overpriced margarita that tasted like straight mix. They literally advertise their seasoning, but the taquitos/ flautas were straight cold shredded chicken with zero flavor. The shrimp fajitas were $18.99 for 5 shrimp on a bed of peppers and onions. This one of our "go to" places. Good Mexican food at reasonable prices. Tonight I had the super chimichanga which has shrimp, chicken and steak. It was very good. My husband had the fajitas quesadilla which was only ok. The service was very good and safety precautions were in place. read more

Was concerned whether La Perla would be open, they've been having irregular hours throughout the pandemic, but boy were we glad they were! This place never disappoints. We arrived at eight o'clock on a weeknight and the place was packed. Luckily there was no wait. My son-in-law had the fajita nachos, I had the three entrees and two sides so I chose a beef enchilada, chicken enchilada, and beef taco with rice & beans. Everything was perfect, bursting with flavor, and best of all prepared to order...not just made and kept warm like most Tex Mex restaurants. While most Tex Mex is palatable, La Perla just has that extra intangible kick of flavor, presentation, and always great service. There are a lot of decent Mexican restaurants, but this one is a notch above. As usual, I will be back. read more

This is a biased post from someone who moved to TN from the Mexican food capital of the world in CA. I ordered chicken hard tacos and a potato taco. The filling was good but could use salsa to spice it up a bit. The taco shells were not homemade... blah! The beans tasted like Taco Bell powder beans but the rice wasn't bad. The service was great! The staff was super friendly and they were very attentive. This review is all about the food. If you have had real Mexican food before I do not recommend this place. I don't know how this restaurant keeps getting anything over 3 stars. There is nothing other than canned and dumped on a plate stuff being served here. Salsa that has no texture, and no flavor. Tamales that aren't even seasoned with a helping of canned beans thrown on top. Plastic cheese cheese dip. We all know that Mexican restaurants are notorious for being places where you aren't going to have a culinary experience, but Sysco should be proud of this place. 100% of this food came out of their cans. read more

We were told that an hour and half was too long to have drinks and dinner... that people were waiting almost 2 hours (which doesn't add up). We've been coming here for 6 years, but have been recently experiencing rude comments from the owners and waitstaff. As residents of this town, we find this is unacceptable to be treated so rudely and to be shamed as we are paying our bill when we are spending almost $200 every week. 2 Mexican restaurant reviews in ONE week?! Unheard of! I think I've only been to 4 Mexican restaurants total in my life. Anyways, I was out in Collierville yesterday, and given that I am never there, I immediately went to my handy Yelp app to scope out the restaurant situation. I must have still been on my high from Los Compadres because the reviews here piqued my interest and I decided to give it a whirl. Starving, I immediately ordered the tortilla soup. I am a cilantro and avocado junkie so as soon as I read those two words, my appetizer fate was sealed. When it came out, it was gorgeous. I mean, it was a really stunning soup. Seriously, check out the photo of it. I was expecting the best soup I've ever had...but upon tasting it, everything fell flat. I don't know how something that pretty and full of yummy ingredients could be so bland. A little disappointed, I decided to go with the chimichanga - now that was a yummy lunch. The location of this place can't be beat, and our waitress was very nice. She disappeared for a bit and I had to flag down someone else to get our check, but I can't be upset about it because they were absolutely packed. It is next door to Bogie's so if I'm ever in the area, that will win, but if you like Mexican food, I would definitely try this place. read more

This is a kinda hidden gem. Food has great flavor. Lots of items hand made in their kitchen. It's yummy!

Best Mexican food in C'ville. Passed my carnitas test. Juicy, tender, well-marbled and generous. (Beware the pork tip you can shoot from a slingshot, which these are not.) They offer three sizes of draft XX lager: 14, 22 and pitcher at reasonable prices. The restaurant is a good size. Not spacious but not tiny either. The way they've got it laid out and booth height allow for a little privacy on one side, while the other is wide open with community seating possible. Your typical neighborhood Mexican joint. Foods pretty good, margaritas are NOT good. All premix and heavy on on mixer part. Kind of expensive too. They removed prices from their menu so I asked how much the large margarita rocks cost. Waitress shrugged and said $11 $12 dollars. Came for lunch and was seated right away. Chips and salsa brought to the table quickly, fresh and tasty. I ordered the chicken and beef taquitos with rice and beans. The chicken was excellent and the beef was good. The beans had good flavor (salt) but the rice was just ok. I had a blended margarita that had little to no lime flavor. Me and my family LOVE this place. You can't wrong with anything on the menu that involves fajita chicken, steak or shrimp. I like to call it Mexican bar food because it's hearty, greasy, deliciousness. I usually get the Tacos Al Carbon, P8 (pounded chicken breast topped with onions and cheese dip) or the fajitas. My kids get the Fajita Taco Salad and rice or beans. The cheese dip, salsa and guacamole are delicious. The service was absolutely horrendous! Not only was the service horrendous but the atmosphere was equally as bad. The lights are super bright in there and it has an airport restaurant feel. Not to mention, apparently the going theme there is to bring your kids and let them sit 3 tables away from you and shoot spitballs at each other while you sit safely 3 tables away drinkin hung with other adults. When we pulled up it looked like a zoo and I should have honored the wife's wishes of going somewhere else but I convinced her to give it a try. The food... Well... It was why I gave the two star review. It was edible, it tasted average, but the portions were on the smaller side than most Mexican restaurants in the area and the margaritas tasted like kool-aid. Don't waste your money at La Perla... Unless you like no service, begging for refills, chips, and salsa (salsa was good but they were very tight with it), and the children's zoo like atmosphere.
