This review is for a pick-order only, no dining in experience. We ordered Abbay's Thanksgiving menu, and it was delicious. Mac & Cheese, dressing, turnip green, sweet potato casserole, gravy, cranberry sauce, pecan pie, and iced tea. Everything was very good, our favorite was the sweet potato casserole, cooked to a melting point that contrasts with the crispy pecans, just amazing. I was disappointed that they run out of turkey, although we placed my order two days before Thanksgiving, and I ended up with unsweetened tea instead of sweet tea, still they made our holiday!

I always enjoy going to Abbay's the food is good. This last time, the Southaven store was drive thru only and the dining room was not open due to staffing shortages.

    Meatloaf

I was looking for something besides fast food or long wait sit down for a late lunch and came across Abby's on the way to Aldi's. It's a interesting menu very basic Dash fried fish meatloaf steak tips and other staples. They have at least 10 to 12 meats and also side items to choose from and include a roll or cornbread. The plates are priced based on how many side items you want. I had the meatloaf one side and bread, and it was nine dollars before tax. As far as quality, the food was fine. Nothing to stand out but nothing bad either. I work at a school and have lunch in the cafeteria daily. This food is very much like what any school cafeteria would serve. The broccoli rice was better than the meatloaf. If I return I'll probably try something fried to see if that is a better option. If you're just looking for some basic comfort food and quick service this might be an option.

I didn't like the food. Because it was bland. The drink was ok. I won't be back. And I won't be back.

1 Star - We Came for Dinner... We Left With a Story…read more My girlfriend, my mom, and I came to Dale's Restaurant in Southaven expecting a nice dinner. What we got instead was an unexpected exercise in patience. When we sat down, the place wasn't very busy, so we figured service would move along pretty smoothly. Unfortunately, our table seemed to be skipped multiple times. It felt like we accidentally sat at the "invisible guest" table because staff kept walking past us and forgetting what they were supposed to bring. While waiting, they brought us sweet tea and cornbread muffins. Now listen... I like sweet tea as much as the next Southerner, but this one was so sweet it felt like it skipped tea entirely and went straight to syrup. If hummingbirds ever open a restaurant, this would probably be their house drink. The cornbread muffins were an adventure of their own. They were very dry, spongy, and unusually sweet -- almost like someone confused cornbread with dessert. Imagine expecting cornbread and getting something closer to candy. That's the closest description I can give. The atmosphere didn't help the situation either. The vents above the dining area looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while, the walls felt bland and lifeless, and several tablecloths were torn. Along the bottom trim where the wall meets the floor, it looked like there was some serious wear and possible moisture damage going on. After waiting long enough and tasting what we had, we decided to call it. I spoke with the manager, who did apologize and told us not to worry about the bill, which I appreciated. That was probably the best part of the visit. At that point we decided to leave and find dinner somewhere else. Nick's Final Bite: We came for dinner... but left with sweet tea syrup and a cornbread identity crisis.

Well this weekend we gave them a try for breakfast and so glad we did! We are now going to definitely go back for dinner sometime soon! We went on a Saturday morning and it wasn't too busy. I just love the Christmas town at the front entrance. I was in "awe." We were seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive and all the waitresses did coffee rotations so we were always good on drinks. The food... delicious! The fried potatoes were cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. That gravy was just like I make at home and perfect. The biscuits were nice and the monte crisco was the best we've had! Really, our only complaints are the rice grits, they just didn't go with the meal well, and that my omelette was supposed to have chorizo, but they did sausage instead. Not a huge deal because it was still good. Try their breakfast out! We'll be back for dinner.

I had the three piece dark chicken with the sweet potatoes casserole and mash potatoes with gravy. The mashed potatoes had quite a few lumps and everything kind of gave a powdery taste (gravy, casserole, and mashed potatoes). When I say powdery... I'm saying that it just wasn't giving "homemade". It's not intolerable but it's not what you look for when you go to a soulfood restaurant. I also wasn't a fan of the wait. We have some made to order items so it was understood about the 20 minute wait, but we didn't get our food until almost an hour after paying. The extra time waiting seemed to be due to fried green tomatoes not being made in tandem with the fried chicken. As a result, everything was luke warm by the time we got the food. It's truly sad because the flavor is definitely there. The texture, the powdery residual taste and the wait time leaves me at this place being a one time experience at the least and a, "if I had to" at the most.

The catfish is made to order, was perfectly crispy and well seasoned. Definitely top 3 catfish meals for me in the area. The mac and cheese was some of the best I have had. It was creamy and savory, it wasn't too fatty and had a firm texture. It was definitely the highlight of the meal. The green beans had a bit of a mushy texture but I really enjoyed regular green beans. The meal comes with a side or cornbread which was filling , fluffy and sweet. Fantastic soul food for me. The banana pudding was also delicious. You can also actually taste banana not just sugar. The people working there were honestly so kind and chill. They knew what to recommend and added to the dining experience. My only criticisms come with how some of the food is prepared for example the green been texture being on the mushy side is likely due to it being presented similarly to a buffet. I was also unable to have a whisky due to the bar being closed however it was 2pm on a weekday. Overall great experience

I added my name to the wait list 13 minutes before I arrived and the time I was given was 20-25 minutes. Once I got there I was told it would be another 20-25 and would be notified by text when my seat is ready. 40 minutes passed, no text nor no name call over the PA system. I went to the host station to inquire was told a text went out. I showed them I didn't get a text, but was seated immediately. Even though I waited longer than expected, it wasn't bad because I looked around the store at all the nostalgia items they have to purchase from toys to candy and etc. Now to the food, the pancakes were not what I was expecting. They were too soggy/buttery. The edges were crispy, but the center just didn't do it for me. They could've been cooked a little longer. The watermelon mimosas and turkey sausage were perfect. I requested egg whites only, but was told they couldn't do it but my receipt shows I paid for eggs with egg whites included. The grits were extremely bland. Overall, it was a nice time out. I love the country/log cabin feel of the restaurant. I will be back to give them another try!
