Ordering was actually a pretty stressful experience, but maybe just for a first-timer like me. This location requires a line at the door queuing around its gorgeous pastry case. Because of this system, you see maybe 20% of their offerings before it's your turn to order. That's what stressed me out. I like to make informed decisions, ya know? FOMO. What could I be missing out on!? I'll tell you what - that second pastry case to the left of the cashier! I quickly popped down to check it out and then jump back in line to find I'd been skipped. That's my fault because I'd walked off, but their system most assuredly causes all of those items - Creme Brulee, cake slices, tarts - in case #2 to be incredibly slow sellers. A good shift in register placement would do the store well. I ordered a Blueberry Muffin. It's getting a (3/5) - Great presentation with the artisan muffin cup. Sweet taste and nice crumble, a very cake-y texture. BUT. 1/2 of my muffin had zero blueberries in it. You never know how those pesky blue guys will disperse in the batter, but that was little bit of a bummer. Once seated to enjoy my semi-blueberry muffin, I noticed that there was a second ordering counter for soup/sandwich/lunchy things. I am training in a nearby store for the week, and will be sure to come back for a soup/sandwich deal. I'm sure I'll be a pro at ordering by the week's end. ;) read more

Given this place's location right next to my workplace (H&M), Andersen's is usually a routine stop--mainly on days when I work wretched 4-hour shifts. Fortunately, those 4-hour shifts take place on the weekdays, where the bakery isn't too crowded. It's on the weekdays where you have the chance to order a Creamy French with no problems whatsoever. I usually always grab a strawberry/blueberry pastry and a raspberry cream cheese to go along with their terrific pesto. Their savory baked goods are crisp on the outside and extremely soft and spongy on the inside, just the way I like it, while their more sweet pastries are flaky yet filling because of their... filling. The sandwiches, for the most part, are extremely ordinary. While you're more likely to be filled by Subway, their sandwiches are made fresher, and when it's busy they simply bring the food to you... with a pickle! I've never tried their soups yet, but from what I heard, they're also good and go along well with the sandwiches. The desserts here are a little on the pricey side, but they have a lot of interesting choices. The Tropical Flan is actually pretty good, and this place even serves Creme Brulee, which has the perfect caramelized exterior to go with its creamy texture. My only gripe with the place is that since they don't bake in bulk all that much (hey, at least it's quality), they tend to close earlier than 9:00. I remember coming here at 7:30 to find the gate half-closed. So if you have the munchies and want nothing but carbs, this is the place. Beware of their manager though. (The Asian Lady with the stern look). She gives somewhat slower service and always seems a bit cranky. But as long as you're nice to her, I'm sure she won't harm you, or your food for that matter. read more

I've been deceived by something considered a "caramel" croissant. When I heard caramel Croissant I immediately pictured a buttery, flakey croissant with ribbons of caramel throughout. They should renamed this as a caramelized sugar croissant. Actually, it wasn't even remotely close to the shape of one. Croissants should be flakey and light. The interior should be tender and buttery. This fauxssant was neither of these things. There were far too many large pockets of air inside and it was too, too dry. Unpalatable. It's popular and there's so many options to choose from. Most food ranges from $3-4 so I would say the prices are good. This visit I got the Croffin Coffee. It has that hint if coffee and some darker cream to it that enhances the taste from being dry. The bread isn't too hard so I like that as well. Service is excellent and the process is quick. I'm probably gonna come here more often. read more

I'm a big fan of the bread and sandwiches made at Anderson. I swing by here every time I shop at Great Mall. My favorite is the cream cheese walnut stick, so so so yummy. I can only buy one because if I buy two, I can finish two. Other than this, the cranberry walnut bread, the walnut bread, even the whole grain toast is yummy, especially when they are just baked in the morning. I personally don't like the salt stick and the French butter baguette. I love the turkey avocado sandwich on whole grain bread, also the hot eggplant mozzarella sandwich. Definitely a gem in this traffic packed outlet of a mall. My tip is to stick with the popular pastries though, such as the Creamy French. The other pastries seem to have been left out in the open for far too long...exposure to not only flies but the server's germs and loose hair as well...My advice is for this bakery to invest in closed see through containers. Their deli section is pretty good though, despite it obviously being quite neglected. Their sandwiches are filling, tasty, and definitely worth the buck since it is definitely big enough for both lunch and dinner. Not only that, you get to pick which bread you like! Deceived. I heard so many good things about this place and I was horrified after tasting the dirty sock tasting coffee I tried. I really want to ask for my money back if it wasn't for the long line of people waiting to buy bread and pastries. I ordered a Danish with strawberries and was tasteless even though they look pretty awesome from the outside. The store smells really bad, not what you expect from a bakery with breads coming fresh from the oven. Have been to this place in great mall couple of times for a quick bite. They offer variety of breads and pizza slices. The breads are really fresh and tasty. Ok this is a franchise and this location is run by Vietnamese. I'm Vietnamese and I know a nasty one when I see one. We arrived early. The first one there with no one behind us. We ordered 3 baguettes... with this kind, they usually premade-grab and go sort of thing. After 20 mins, a slew of patrons came for lunch, so I went out to the mall to use the restroom. After I came back, all the customers are served and gone and hubby still waits so I told him they forgot and proceeded telling them what happened to our order. The boy said , I will make them now- no apology no acknowledgment that they forgot. I told my husband, wait and you will see that they will not complete our order. As it turned out, after waited some more , they only gave us 2 sandwiches. I was livid, for again, no apology. I said we waited almost an hour! And the pudgy girl, rolled her eyes and said not an hour... wait, will 48.888 minutes do you idiot! Normal human interactions dictate that you admit your fault and say you're sorry and business 101 dictates that you always establish GOODWILL. You want your customers to come back! Andersen Bakery is a great place to pick up breads and pastries. They sell their products at several locations including Marukai and the quality is consistent. Pastries are fresh and lighter than most heavy sticky danish pastries (altho I love those too!) Fruited pastry taste like REAL fruit- love the strawberry danish. I do wish this location would sell their red bean bun pastry. But my yelp is about their service- particularly a young male counterperson with all the personality of a rock. He waits behind the counter until you say something and it's very hard to tell if he even hears you. He doesn't know much about the food, just that he'll bag it if you want it. Such a great company and delicious mouthwatering items, but I'm really sad to see the inconsistency in menu items and really bad service of the employees at this great mall location. I visited the location since we opened a new store at the mall, to get breakfast for fellow employees oc my company. No egg sandwich here at this location was the answer of the employee (Jen). Then I was completely ignored and she starting taking about customers. I looked at the menu and was ready to order, Jen told me to move aside so she can take the order of another customer. After that she moved on to another customer, seeing me holding the menu and test to order. Horrible customer service and bad attitude was shown to me by Jen. I really appreciate scouter employee Christine, who jumped in and helped me with my order with a smile and a apology. Good Japanese bakery. I visited this bakery many times in Japan and here in US too. My recommendation is Croissant, ham and cheese croissant, most of pastry, muffins are so good too. This place created new math, and I'm in awe of it. So, when does 2 times $2.50 equal $7.50? At this location of Andersen, it apparently does! When do two rolls that were $2.50 each, given only two pieces, but charged $7.50 work out. When asked about the price, the guy behind the counter said "Prices have gone up".
