Torta Cubana (Cuban Pannini)
Carlo Q.

I went to The Best sandwich and ordered a Cuban sandwich $15 + tax Overall, I would give it a 6.5 out of 10. The service was normal, nothing special. The sandwich was decent, it did the job but wasn't very impressive in flavor. Café The latte didn't really taste like a latte, but it was still okay and helped me because I was hungry. Ambiance was quiet. Overall, the experience was acceptable. I might come back in the future, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

The Torta Cubana was delicious, although felt a tad dry. I love the bread used. I think the lunch sandwiches are large enough to share. The restaurant is really cozy and clean. Service was excellent.

Picked up 4 sandwiches for a small group to haver for Super Bowl. I liked the ordering system they had as it allowed you to schedule a window to pick up food at. Also the ability to customize sandwiches and all the options was nice as well. When we picked up the sandwiches the inside was clean and decorated nicely. Food was ready and packed nicely when we arrived at the scheduled time. As a group we ordered and would rate each as Torta Cubana 4/5 Roast Beef 3/5 Pastrami Sandwich 3/5 Carnitas Torta 4/5 In general all the sandwiches had good bread, The Torta, French Baguette and Ciabatta were very good, The sauce condiments and extras on the sandwich were good as well and the pairings for the sauces with the cheese and vegetables all worked from a taste perspective. The issue was primarily with the Pastrami and Roast Beef. Both were cut very thick and were tough and chewy. I feel like if the meat is that tough and chewy for a sandwhich you have to slice it very thin, or if you're going to make the cuts that thick then make sure the meat is tender. With that said the carnitas, turkey and ham in the other 2 sandwiches were very tender. The other issue which was minor was the sandwiches weren't tagged identifying which was which. I would go back as overall the experience was good I just would avoid the tougher meats.

I wasn't sure what to order, but I opted for the torta cubana, which comes with slow cooked pork, turkey, ham, cheese, pickles, mayo, and habanero sauce. I had the habanero sauce removed, and the sandwich was fantastic overall. The bread was soft, the meats were delicious, and everything was put together really well. I also liked the portion size, which was filling and well worth it. Customer service was good. There is plenty of parking available, which is nice. The dining area inside is limited and can fit about two to four people, but they also offer outdoor seating. I also liked the outdoor decor, which added a nice touch to the overall vibe.

Pretty good sandwich, packed with meat. The pork is my main focus and even though there is so much sauce and other cuts, the pork can still be tasted (pretty good flavor). Although, my only issue was that it's a pretty wet sandwich so it was hard to eat but that's not really a big issue. The sandwich was $17 with tax and I didn't even finish all of it. It's a pretty good deal so I'd give it like a 4.3/5 personally.

gourmet chicken sandwich with savory cilantro lime sauce

Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 We only ever order the gourmet chicken sandwich here (we tried the torta cubana but it was too salty and while the hibiscus and roses tea is good, all the drinks are made with corn syrup), but it's usually soo good! The poblano peppers inside offset the savory chicken so well and the green sauce (savory cilantro lime sauce?) it comes with is so yummy. I don't know what happened today though, the chicken was super rubbery which kind of took away from how good the sandwich usually is :/ Hopefully today was just a one-off thing, usually we love it! Servings here are pretty big, they cut the whole sandwich into two and I'll usually eat one half and save the other for the next meal. There's plenty of covered outdoor seating if you dine-in, and parking is shared with a few nearby places but there's usually plenty of spots available.

My wife introduced this place, The Best Sandwiches, to me awhile ago. Though, I think this was a different name and owner before. They used to have this apricot chutney and spicy herb green saice. But, this place has a somewhat similar menu to before. The place is small and has two small tables inside. House music and complimentary chilled spa water. They do offer patio seating outside. Order via kiosk and/or cashier. *Torta Cubana: unique marinated slow cooked pork, turkey, ham, cheese, pickles, mayo, and habanero sauce on a ciabatta bread. Served with habanero pickles onions (4/5). This is a huge sandwich packed with mounds of meat! It also is a messy sandwich when you put on that habanero sauce. I mean you don't need it because the sandwich is savory already. Support your local business.

Food: jalapeño bagel with turkey and egg

Food: jalapeño bagel with turkey and egg The food is really good. The egg and bagel is spot on. I would come back again. There are indoor and outdoor seats and plenty of parking spaces.

I guess it's supposed to look like this... and without dry bread.

Sadly, i think I'm done with this sandwich place. I've tried the Milpitas location and the San Jose location and both times the sandwiches were made incorrectly. Today I called in sandwiches 30 minutes before I was arriving. When I get there they didn't make them. I ordered 2 Torta Cubano's - they didn't include the habanero onions. I ordered 1 veggie sandwich with no tomato and no chimichurri. What do I get? Tomatoes, chimichurri, and NO avocado. The amount of spinach was ridiculous. The bread was totally dry. Extremely disappointing. My last experience was a large group order that was only 60% right but I didn't review thinking it was a bad day. It's very unfortunate because I used to regard them as the best around. They've gone down to zero for me at this point. I work too hard to pay for this type of subpar product. Back to Ike's as the preference I guess.

The name speaks for itself. Meat, veg, bread ratio is on point. The Torta Cubana is not a traditional Cubano, it might be better! It's made with ciabatta bread and it's not pressed, but the flavors are all there and the meat is exceptional. The ciabatta actually absorbs all the meat juices and sauces nicely. When they offer their green sauce and pickled onions, always accept and ask for more cause one container of each won't be enough for the size of these sandwiches. They're yuge! I can finish one whole sandwich, but in all honesty, really should eat half at a time. There is no seating inside, but they created an outdoor patio in the parking lot that can seat about 20 people. The servers are always very friendly, but the service is slow. The times I have gone, granted they were lunch, but took at least 30 minutes before receiving my order. Trust, it is completely worth it. The Torta Mexicana and empanadas are also solid if you want to switch it up.

Early Sunday, there is no line. Outdoor seating. Chiliquiles Burrito. Very filling. Very good. Tastes great. Slow burn, not too spicy. Will have to come back for the Colombian Epanadas.

Portobello Chicken Sandwich

Food: My husband has gotten their veggie sandwich twice now and this was my first time trying this Portobello Chicken Sandwich. AMAZING. The chicken was pretty flavorful and they put lots of veggies in it too! I love their Chimichurri sauce. YUM. Service: Great! Everyone was friendly and food came out within a reasonable amount of time. Ambiance: Basic little sandwich shop. You order, take a number, and they bring the food out. Most people take the sandwiches to go. They have a cute little patio outside where you can eat. Overall: Their sandwiches are so good! I definitely want to come back and try their breakfast!

Kale Smoothie
Carolen M.

Another update! Our family was around for Christmas time and one of their requests was to get the sandwiches. You know... "the sandwiches." And we knew what they were talking about. There's a couple small 2 person tables inside, but if you do stay inside, you'll smell like food. There's also a very clean bathroom. I had to brush my teeth there as I'm still working on my Invisalign treatment and I felt comfortable cleaning my teeth in there. The main tables are outside. So if it's raining or super cold, just be aware and adjust your clothing or perhaps bring it home. This last time we went, I had a kale smoothie. The drink comes with a wooden/bamboo like straw! How novel and I guess in theory you could reuse this and bring it home. I think it's much better than a paper straw. The kale smoothie was exactly what I needed as I was eating a lot of heavy food as our family was over and it was light and refreshing. Our family loved their sandwiches and still good and full of flavor and can easily feed two people per sandwich. Yes the sandwich can be a bit oily but I think it comes with the territory of that type of sandwich. Parking can be a struggle so try to avoid lunch rushes. Overall, still a solid sandwich spot and might I say still "The Best Sandwiches" and live up to their name.

So they decided why not Mil's? L O C A T I O N Mil's Diner is located off of Calaveras Blvd and Abbott Ave. It's in a plaza close to Goodwill. The parking situation here can be very difficult during the busy times of eating. I N S I D E It's a diner! Yes it feels like an old school diner with a bar area and booths to sit in. They do have a restroom if you need it. M E N U It's a fairly extensive menu with all your good ol' diner food from breakfast fare to lunch. That day I decided I'd get the 50/50 (2 bacon & 2 sausage) with over easy eggs, hashbrowns and sourdough bread. Pricing feels a little bit on the high side, but to be honest it's been so long since I've been to a diner that this might be normal. How was it? It was good! The hashbrowns a tad bit oily, but I was expecting that. Eggs good, bacon crispy, sausage bouncy. S E R V I C E It was warm, friendly and lovely. The wait though was uff. So if you can send out someone early to scout the line or I'm unsure if they can put your name down as you drive over. But the wait times can get really long. I think we waited about an hour or maybe 40-ish min? But this was a Sunday at lunch time and we had 4 people. We actually paid by cash which was easier for all of us and we didn't need change back. Amazing when we all have cash handy. O V E R A L L I think it's a pretty solid diner with good food with friendly service. I'm sure we'll come back again as we enjoyed our time there and catching up. It started with the barbacoa chilaquiles. When I saw that that the chilaquiles in the menu had habaneros on it, I knew I had found my place. I often cook at home with ghost and scorpion peppers, which are not traditionally found in restaurants, but they've done some pretty amazing improvisation when I've asked to make it work. One time, I recall getting the chilaquiles and asking for extra habaneros and asking if their chef had a secret hot sauce that was stronger than "white people spicy." Miriam brought me a little ramekin of a pepper sauce puree that the chef prepared - and it was EPIC. I don't ask for that every time, but you know whoever was on the line took the request seriously and actually had some fun making my mouth burn. I can't tell you how appreciative I am of their willingness to "play" in the kitchen. Today, I went for breakfast and ordered the Carne En Su Jugo for my first time. Not just here - first time ever eating it anywhere. I had totally forgotten to ask them to make it spicy! I asked Miriam if there was anything they could do to spice it up. She assured me they could. Then I received it. And I tasted it. And it was cathartic. The chefs prepared a PERFECTLY spicy stew, and I downed that whole thing in 7 minutes. It was delicious, put some sweat on my brow, and left me feeling more than satisfied with my meal. I love this place! Miriam is always great every time I've been there. I will continue supporting this business as long as they keep doing business. Please give my compliments to the chefs again. Their creativity keeps me coming back for spicy treats!

Bonus points for having fun seasonal choices. The kids menu has good options but it is kinda pricey for being the kids menu. Bonus points because they use handmade tortillas for the kids taco. They also offer unique things like a breakfast molcajete and a mini birria pambazo. We didn't try those but it sounded intriguing. Also so many drink choices if you're looking for a michelada or mimosa. Cute vibes inside & love the plates and ceramics they use. It is small though so wouldn't really accommodate a large group easily, especially if it's busy. There is parking but even though it wasn't busy it was hard to find a spot. All that said, it was a very mid experience. The meat for the kids birria and the chilaquiles was more on the dry side. Same for the rice. The Grinch milkshake was good and cute. The tamarindo mimosa was good after we asked for extra tamarindo. Initially it was very heavy on the champagne. The country potatoes were yummy. The gingerbread pancakes were also dry & didn't taste like gingerbread. Also was sad that they were out of the advertised Holiday drinks: chocolate abuelita and atole de mazapán. I ordered the hot chocolate in its place but even though it looked cute, it tasted watery. I came here specifically for the Holiday items so that's why I was so disappointed with that. Service was okay. Our server was friendly when we interacted with her but it was very limited. Pretty much when she took our order & then when I flagged her down to return my pancakes & hot chocolate. She was very understanding though about that so I appreciated that. Overall, if they made adjustments to their flavor & quality it could be really good. From this visit I would say their Mexican food is better than their American food. I'd try again in the future, just not any time soon.
