Honestly every time I come to Great Mall I have to stop by here. My go to is the sandwiches, either the pre-made Turkey & Swiss or the Turkey, Swiss, & Avocado with added tomatoes and sprouts. I have to get it on sourdough too. I thought I hated mustard but these sandwiches have changed my mind because they have a dijon mayo. A vegetarian's review! :) Great Mall is the closest mall to where I live and my husband and I visit here frequently. If you enter through the Sports Authority entrance you can let your nose guide you to Andersens Bakery. Since our noses do that every single time we visit, I have tasted quite a few items. 1. Jalapeno Cheese: Get this one cut and warmed and this is one of our favourites. The cheese balances out the fiery heat from the jalapenos and with a hot coffee this makes a great snack. 2. Apple muffins: These are yummy. The moist apple inside and the crumbly topping...mmmm. :) 3. International Cheese: For that cheese craving. 4. Apple pie slice: No. Don't take this. The muffins are way better. 5. Creamy Cheese: I tried this after all the reviews on Yelp that said that it is a must-try. It is good. If you are Indian and have ever eaten a cream bun from a local Indian bakery, it is kind of built like that. Also it tastes something like bread, ghee and sugar. :) If you're really dying of hunger, as I was, try the sandwiches. 6. The roasted tomato, caprese and avocado sandwich is mouthwateringly delicious. 7. The eggplant and mozzarella sandwich is perfect if you're craving a hot sandwich. This place has been a favorite of mine for many years...back to the days when this was still Grain D'or. Everything is fresh, flavorful and some of the sandwiches are pretty healthy! I am writing this Yelp review on the verge of falling asleep from food coma. The problem is, that usually when I come here, it is during my lunch break. By noon, I am starving and my eyes tend to be bigger than my stomach...and everything looks so good! I typically order a deli sandwich and 2 pastries for "to go" but end up eating 1 or 2 of the pastries along with my meal because I just can't wait...today happened to be the day I had 2. Here are some of my favorites: Tuna Salad Turkey Swiss Avocado Turkey and Fresh Mozzarella Hot Ham and Swiss Iced Tea -- I love all things iced tea and this is probably up there in my top 5 (I think they only offer 1 refill though) Butter Croissant Almond Croissant Chocolate Croissant Creamy French Bread -- I believe this is their number 1 seller Baguette Whole Wheat bread (Loaves are pretty affordable and are also available in 1/2 size) There's probably more but I'm tired and don't want to think anymore. read more

Seems like management/ownership does not care about Yelp reviews/feedback; looks like a lot of one-star reviews are not responded to. Yummy food, but horrible, horrible customer service. In my recent experience ordered food for pickup. Lady on the phone said that they'll have it ready in 5 minutes. When I got there 15 minutes later, food was not ready as they longer had the ingredients. I told the sandwich maker that the lady should have confirmed ingredients before placing order, or at least call me back that way I didn't waste my time. Retracing my steps from earlier this week was a good choice. I got the white bread on recommendation from a friend and it is tasty... it will probably be gone by Saturday. Tried the hot cross buns they were okay.... I feel spoiled since we have Kelly's, The Buttery and other spots on the other side of the hill. Every time i visit the great mall, I usually do a quick stop here and buy the baguettes filled with cream. I've tried some of the pastries here and they are pretty decent. This Andersen's is consistently on point. I only eat two things here - the strawberry pastry and almond croissant - but they always hit the spot (oh, and sometime a creamy french). They're fresh and never fail to fulfill all my sugary baked goods cravings. The sandwiches here look delicious too... at least compared to the Valley Faire ones. Yum the Chicken Avocado sandwich here is HUGE! Its like one whole sandwich is a half of the sandwich. I love it. For some reason the portions are way larger here than at other Andersen Bakeries. I also got a Creamy French here but the bread was stale. I didn't mind too much though because at night when my ex was hungry she ate the sandwich and was more than full, so that made me happy. Every time I come here I order their pesto bread and toasted eggplant mozzarella sandwich!! The lady that was serving us wasn't too friendly, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. She charged the pesto bread on my friends card and realized about 10 min later that they were out of it.. WHAT, you charged us even though you didnt have anymore pesto bread??? This specific location is the only AB that I've been to where I've actually eaten something else other than that creamy french bread. Don't get me started on that creamy french. Geez. It's seriously amazing. It's so friggin delectable. So bad for you, but who cares. Make it a cheat day! Anyways this location always seems to be busy. So if you plan on sitting, you could be waiting for a while for patrons to finish eating. The two times I've eaten here, I've ordered their turkey and Swiss sandwich. Theyre not known for fancy shmancy gourmet style sammies. They're more known for how fresh all the ingredients are. Lemme tell you, both times my sandwiches did not disappoint. Equally delicious, fresh, filling. Ps. I had my first ever creme brûlée from this location and I literally melted. I shared one with my mom and had to restrain myself from buying another one. Looks like an Andersen's, smells like an Andersen's....so what could go wrong? 1. Horrible service: 4 people behind the counter, 2 helping customers & 2 to stand around and chat with each other. I was the only person in line...yet neither of the 2 'free' employees, WHO WERE FACING ME, offered to take my order. I was not acknowledged until a line started to form behind me. 2. STALE Creamy French: don't let the signs fool you! Even though the creamy french is the most popular this Andersen's seems to only make this in LARGE BATCHES once a week or every few days (good luck getting something fresh). The ends of my creamy french were hard as a rock and the center pieces were cardboard-like (not that I have tried cardboard, but I don't know how else to describe STALENESS that had taken over my bread). The total opposite of the soft, custardy goodness I have been accustomed to that IS available at the Pleasanton and Union City locations. Never again. read more

I tried some of their baked goods for the first time in the US and found them pretty good. Keep in mind that this is a Japanese company, and like most foreign foods in Japan, they tend to be tailored to suit Japanese taste. Therefore, if you're looking for traditional European taste, you won't necessarily get it here. Their shops in Japan have way more variety than this one, but the things that I tried are pretty good and similar to the taste in Japan. -1 star for not having as big of a selection as I am accustomed to. Ordered their Garlic Cheese Bread, Creamy French Bread and Milk French Bread. All tasted pretty good and I'd get them again here. The garlic Cheese Bread needs to be eaten warm. When it's warm and fresh, it's quite good. Same goes for the Milk French. Also excellent when warm and fresh. If you want both, but are sure that can't can't eat both right when you order them, just get one. It won't taste the same when you go back to finish it later. The Creamy French is also best when fresh, but should hold up a bit better. At least long enough to have it later the same day. It's in a busy mall, so expect to find a circus when you arrive around noon on a Sat. If you can time your trip during non-peak meal hours, the crowd is much less. Overall, a pleasant bread/pasty eating experience. I just wish they had all the pasties and stuff that they sell in Japan. read more

I LOVE Anderson Bakery, I've never actually had their sandwiches but I always swing by to buy their pastries and bread. My favorite breads have to be the Pisano, International Cheese, Butter France, Chocolate Croissant and Garlic Cheese Bread. Nothing beats putting the bread into a toaster oven and having the slices come out with the cheese melted and dripping with the bread crunchy and fresh. I LOVE the bread at Anderson Bakery (personal favorite has to be the Pisano- it's something I would never leave Anderson without ordering). Now, the price for the breads are a little expensive (it's like $3.25-3.50 for a Pisano) and while it is stuffed with yummy ingredients- you would really only get about 4 slices out of a Pisano. Think of the sour dough bread bowl you would get with clam chowder- that's about the size of a Pisano bread. And the ingredients (cheese, tomato sauce, etc) aren't evenly spread in the bread, so the end slices would barely have anything in them and the middle 2 slices would be packed with stuff- but even then, the end pieces are good too. Whenever I go, there's usually a long line of people waiting but the people who work there generally get to me pretty quickly. But you have to be careful when standing at the counter waiting because if you're looking around at the bread displayed and not lining up directly behind or around the cash register other people might cut in front of you to order and the staff there don't pay attention to who gets there first. I would definitely say Anderson Bakery is worth it- even if it is a little expensive for the bread- price wouldn't even matter when you sink your teeth into a warm slice of melted cheese with tomato sauce bread. Tip: If you buy the bread, it's best to eat it fresh if you like soft bread- they really do bake the breads every morning (you would be able to get them hot out if you go there around 11am-12pm) but if you let them sit for 1-2 days before eating, I would suggest you toasting them until you get a nice golden color on each slice- then the melted cheese part would keep the middle of the bread soft and still taste fresh. If you eat it straight out of the bag without toasting- the bread would be a little tough and the cheese would be cold and solid. If you microwave it, you would have to eat it fast or the bread will get tough and REALLY chewy- and if you microwave and let it sit, the bread will dry and get rock hard. read more

Strawberry Pastry: ($2.45) Delicious! A cheese danish with peaches and raw strawberries on top. Cheese Danish: ($1.75) A step down from all of the above. Chicken and fruit salad: ($7.50) Yummy, healthy lunch with sweet, sesame ginger dressing. An array of fruit and candied pecans. Very fresh fruit. Friendly and efficient staff. I have been ordering a monthly birthday cake from this bakery for more than 2 years. I placed an online order, parked at their back of the parking lot, called inside, provided my order number and they will bring out my cake to my car. It was a very good and pleasant service for 2+ years. Today, I called from their parking lot and wanted to pick up my January BD cake. A female named Khanh asked me to go inside the store and showed her my proof of receipt. 'You must come in and show me the receipt". So I parked my car, went in to the store, asked if they have changed their pick up policy recently, "What is wrong with you?" she asked me, "I was trained to check the receipt at the store, then I can give you the cake at the back." I am completely in love with Anderson Bakery! I've been to so many but this one is my favorite. Every time I come to the Great Mall outlets I always stock up before I head home. The pastries here are fresh fresh fresh! Everything is delish and a big assortment to chose from. Something for everyone. From sweet to cheesy to salty to breads. Cakes, tarts, eclairs, muffins, croissants, bread, cookies, it's a baked good heaven! You can also get sandwiches here. My fav is the blueberry cream cheese danish which melts in your mouth. The blueberries are very fresh. I love their creme brulee, their blueberry muffin, white chocolate cookie! Oh, you can get your danishes cut. I get mine cut into little pieces so I can eat them while I walk. They give you free ice water if you ask. The pastries here are just spectacular you can't go wrong. They have a nice area for you to sit and eat. It's pretty busy here on a weekend since Anderson Bakery's inside the mall. My fav spot in the mall! read more
