Honestly, this is one of the better Sheng Kee Bakery spots around town. Good customer service and good employees working here. The place is always organized, fully stocked with all kinds of buns/breads/cakes/sandwiches/cake rolls/etc. For nearly two decades, they have been serving me well over the counter for sure. Best part, they have good coffee beverages and holidays are filled with sweet goodies too. I have purchased many mooncakes, buns, tarts, and coffee beverages in the past. Good tasting/good looking/decent/on point. Value exists at this bakery. I came to buy a $42.95 whole 8-inches fruit cake today and it was a solid experience too. Cashier boxed it up well and the box was quite colorful in presentation. It was a good feeling inside. Not crowded on a Thursday morning after 10am. Nice. I've come to Sheng Kee since I was 8 years old, and this location is especially clean with good variety. I came here at around 7pm on Friday, and they still had good selection. One of the best parts of Sheng Kee is that their pastries are not only delicious but also affordable - most pastries range between $2-3, and it is always consistent too. Every Chinese kid grew up having these for breakfast or as a snack, and it's extremely comforting having a staple that is so delicious and inexpensive. With so many Asian Bakery Shops Sheng Kee Bakery comes on top located in a busy Asian Mall with so many surrounding business. Been a regular customer for the past nine years and the staff are so attentive and the prices are hard to beat. Am always here for their freshly bake buns prefer custard, coconut and mung beans are my favorite. My co-workers and I would come by every now and then usually on the weekdays since its close to work. They have their weekly specials a real bargain can't missed on that. Like any bakery, you'll like some stuff and others you won't. I tried about 8 different things as I got a bunch to share with my family over thanksgiving. The coconut tarts were by far my favorite, some of the best I've had! The egg tarts were good, although maybe a wee bit under. Overall, I will DEFINITELY be coming back. We stopped into Sheng Kee Bakery to check out their Graduation Cakes. They had a nice selection in their cake book, located on the right side of the bakery. We ended up choosing the Taro cake, which looked great and tasted delicious. When placing the order, we asked if they could write "Congratulations" on the cake, and they said it wouldn't be a problem. However, when we picked it up, we were told that it couldn't be done and were instead given a "Congratulations" cake topper. While we appreciated the alternative, it would've been better if they had told us upfront that writing on the cake wasn't possible. That said, the cake itself was fresh and flavorful, and overall we were happy with the quality. Would still recommend them, but a little more communication would have made the experience smoother. read more

I love Shengkee bakery overall but this one at Milpitas has been disappointing me many times. I am extremely unhappy with the service here. The staff is poorly trained; they didn't even ask for a name when I placed a birthday cake order. When I pointed this out at pickup, they refused to fix it, claiming no baker was available to write on it. If you want a personalized experience for a special event, go elsewhere. On a food adventure with a friend to Fremont, we made a stop here before our lunch next door. This was a good sized store with its self-service display cases of Chinese buns, pastries and various baked goods in plastic bags. The drill is you grab a tray and tongs and pick out the bakery goodies that you want and pay at the counter. Besides pastries, there are various flavors of bread on top of the display cases and cream cakes and other sweet desserts in the refrigerated cases and hot desserts like egg tarts that you order from the clerks. They coffee drinks featured Peet's. I bought: Black Sesame Toast. My favorite bread toast here. Purple Romance with fresh taro. Bought it so friend could compare to my favorite taro bun from the other chain bakery, where we were stopping later in the day. Friend got HK Pineapple Bun, Green Tea Walnut Bun and a Portuguese Custard Tart. They have a lot of choices here for you to fill your Chinese baked goods cravings. read more

I got the chocolate vanilla cake (the one you can get slices of). It was fluffy and delicious, not too sweet. Size is perfect.

I only got the egg tarts from there (both the regular and the Portuguese ones), and they were mid at best, and waste of calories at worst. I'm actually low-key angry they were so sub-par....from what I remember 85 degrees is also better. Not sure about the other things, but based on the egg tart quality I'm not inclined to try anything else from here. read more

Serendipitous find. I spotted this place on my way to Loving Hut. I wanted to get moon cakes for the mid-autumn pray that Friday. They had an array of selections. I loved the fact that they sell individual moon cakes and mini moon cakes as well. The chocolate lava cake is dense and appears like a mochi consistency, but once you get to the center, you will get an oozing of the chocolate sauce filling. I got a bunch of the mini red bean moon cakes to try even though I bought a box of red bean moon cakes. The box is for the pray. The mini ones are to be enjoyed immediately. Both my kids and I really liked it. I don't think this is close to the taste that I remember from Eastern Bakery in San Francisco, but it does the job. I ended up praying a week after. I'm very disappointed with the deceptive way a promotion was handled at Sheng Kee Bakery #6 (386 Barber Lane, Milpitas). Back in December, we were given a stamp card by an employee and encouraged to keep purchasing items to earn stamps toward a free gift. The employee explained the promotion exactly as it appeared on the card, and nowhere on the card did it state that all stamps had to be collected before December or that redemption rules were different from what was verbally explained. Between December and January, we continued buying from this location specifically to earn the free gift. When we were just two stamps away, we were suddenly told the card was "not valid" because we were supposedly supposed to finish collecting stamps before December, and that redemption was only allowed between December and January. Again, none of this was written on the card, nor was it explained to us when the card was handed out. This felt misleading and unfair. Whether intentional or not, the promotion encouraged us to spend more money under terms that were later changed or selectively enforced. That's not how loyal customers should be treated. They may have gained a few extra purchases from this tactic, but they've lost us as frequent customers. Very disappointing and not a smart way to run a business. read more

This review is for the green tea red bean cake, according to their website, this cake is "Layers of fluffy Chinese style green tea sponge cake with rich green tea flavored mousse and red beans in between!", however, there's no green tea sponge cake, it's just regular sponge cake, and their sponge cake is dry. There's every thin layer of green tea mousse which is very hard to see, and very few amount of hard to chew red beans inside the bottom green tea cream layer. I tried your Chocolate Swiss Roll, Coconut roll, Lotus Cake, sponge cake, and the Butterfly Cookie. OMG, the Butterfly Cookie is secretly my favorite cookie. And the bar is set high on perfection. It's set by an Italian bakery in San Francisco Northbeach "Little Italy." Your cookie comes very close! Lightly flaky, crispy, with a glassy glaze that gives a gentle sweetness. And for $1.85 each, I'll take it! Store-wise: I was there around 7pm on a weekday. Everything is pretty much self-service. You take a tray, line it with wax paper, grab some tongs, and walk around picking out your items. Everything is marked in English with prices. Then take it up to the cashier. When I was there, a young lady was doing inventory checks and asked if I needed help. Covid-19 procedures: (Dec 2021) masks req'd, social distancing not enforced, no dining in areas. I dropped by here on a Sunday afternoon randomly because I was in the area. It was close to closing so I didn't expect much to be leftover in the bakery. There was a decent selection still left with the popular items (like egg tarts) being out. It is a standard Asian bakery where you can grab a tray and use tongs to grab the items you want. Most items are wrapped in cellophane. I got some dinner rolls. It came with 9 rolls. The rolls were delicious, and it does make me come want to come back to try some of their other items! One of my fondest memories growing up was Dan tat. As it was a sweet treat my Popo and Kung Kung would bring with them all the way just from SF to spend the weekend with their grandkids. I vividly remember how my kung Kung would lick his fingers as he turned the pages of the newspaper while we set up dinner and adjusting the lighting to be "Not too dark, and not too bright". Trying Sheng Kee Bakery for the first time instantly brought me back to that sweet period of time reminding me of how fortunate i was being able to call Popo and Kung Kung my grandparents. I ordered a good variety of different pastries that Sheng Kee has to offer. Although the Dan tat isn't the same as the ones i grew up eating, they still filled me up with nostalgia taking a bite into a flaky crust with a subtle sweet custard filling that could be enjoyed hot or cold. One thing about me is that i love trying everything, but only one bite leaving excess for a house of hungry and happy raccoons. A pastry that stood out to me was the ham, egg, and cheese bun. Interestingly the egg was a whole rectangular prism of solid eggs which I've never had before, if i will be honest, that's the one pastry no one wanted or finished. My favorite pastry had to be the melon pan bun which contained a sweet thick filling with a crunchy cookie top. The croissants here are only mid, but they are better than some I've had all the way in Santa Cruz. Sheng Kee Bakery has very good and reasonably priced baked goods! We first got the Moon Cake, Egg Tart, and Pork BBQ pastry. Each one was so good I went back to get the Pineapple Bun as I figured the bakery was promising. I have no regrets because the Pineapple Bun was my favorite out of the bunch. It has a nice crispy cookie-like exterior and an airy interior. Nothing was too sweet or too spicy; everything had the right amount of punch in the flavor. The coffee was also decent and comes in a large cup. As some photos on Yelp show tables with chairs, it should be noted there is no longer any seating inside (there are tables and benches outside). Really cute bakery smacked down in the middle of McCarthy Ranch. This spot offers all sorts of sweets particularly custard filled pastries, moon cakes, and Asian inspired sweet bread. They have some Chocolate Bun action going, and have other artsy looking type of pastries on display. Full cakes and cake by the slice are also offered at this bakery including one of my personal favs -- Tiramisu. Yum. I picked up some custard filled buns and thought they were legit -- sort of reminded me of 85C Bakery. Now that I think about it, the set up is about the same: pick up your tray and tongs, select your plastic wrapped sweet or savory breads, and then take the tray up to the register to pay. Yup, this place operates very similarly to a 85C Bakery. Nonetheless, these guys are worth checking out if you haven't already. We need to do our part to supporting small businesses because they need us more than ever right now. Makes more sense to do that and indulge ourselves into tiny guilty pleasures. Win-win. read more

One of our friends got us some moon cakes a few weeks back and we were hooked on to them . We immediately decided we need to pay a visit to this bakery . It's a small bakery with lots of goodies . We tired a few different varieties of moon cakes , pork floss bun , bbq baked bun , red bean sun cookie and sponge cake. Liked them all and all the goodies are easy on the wallet as well .
